Yup! Just a normal Sunday for us. Most, if not all, FM radio stations has this kind of programming every Sunday. They play throwback songs and that's mostly country, folk, and mixed with some old rock music (Beatles, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones etc...). Not to mention some old AM radio stations, I think some of them still play this kind of music on a daily basis.
In the Cordilleras, we have this thing called "Igorot Country Sound." Cordillerans love country song so much. We also love "cowboy" culture. I think that is the biggest western we adopted, while the lowlands adopted the most Spanish influence.
We Filipinos have the most flexible tongues,the most versatile singers in the world,a chameleon, adjustables and can easily get to sing no matter what kind,languages and end genre it might be,even the small kids can do it better,that's a God given most prescious Gift to us❤❤❤❤❤
i grew up in Isabela, a province in the Northern Luzon, where we both wake up from the blasting sound of country music from one neighbors speaker to another along with the clucking chickens, my grandma and mom both play instruments and they love playing Dolly Parton, Lucinda Williams, Kenny Rogers, Anne Murray, Jean Shepard, Elvis you name it.. country music is an anthem specially on Sundays, Rock songs on a monday, Love songs on tuesdays, Jazz on Wednesdays, The blues by Thurdays, Reggae comes friday, Saturdays either OPM or acoustics.. and STILL, here i am, part of the 10% of the Filipino population who can't sing unless inside the shower LOL..

For american country or folk music, my papa has albums from bands and solos: The Eagles, Americas, Kenny Rogers, Simon and Garfunkel, Don Mclean, John Denver, Peter/Paul&Mary, James Taylor, Jim Crose, Bob Dylan and many many more. Other albums: The carpenters, Letterman, Mamas and Papas, Bread, Beatles, Queen, so much more. Ooh, the influence of american and british music to us in the old days. Amazing! I was born and raised in Baguio City and this is the normal music in our household. As a teen growing, we were listening to rock, hiphop, R&B but my dad always switched the FM radio channel to Baguio Country Music Channel (Magic 99.9) and always tell us that country is the real music that never fade. He used to play guitar and sing like that too. And so when I reached adulthood I appreciate country music very much especially pop country as they call it.
Im 41.. when my papa was still alive.. or when i was little.. we always hear old songs... From tom Jones to Engelbert.. from yellow submarine to top of the world.. Fernando to chiquita.. and more.. and now i have a 15 yrs.. he his favorite songs are from Kenny Rogers and more.. sometimes i think my son was reincarnated from those era... Hahhah
why are filipinos good in country? hmm. let me check. wake up to heavy metal in the morning. shift to alternative rock an hour after that while having my breakfast and segue to radio that plays all kinds of music while driving to work. have the same music in the background while at work. country around 4 to mellow down. alternative rock music driving home. then classical music (beethoven, vivaldi or brahms) just before turning in. eclectic? hell yeah! no wonder that in any videoke/karaoke sessions, you have bts, taylor swift then beatles, elvis, eagles, bieber and sinatra in the request slips for one table.🙃

Those songs are regulars in Karaoke Song books thus Filipinos, being lovers of Karaoke singing, are famiar of those songs. Also, those songs are played on radio stations especially on Sundays. I got sentimental in the "Don't Cry Joni" cover as that was one of my late Mother's favorite songs.

I remember in early '70s, music like waltz, that of mantovani, christmas by Ray Conniff (and many others) and of course country songs were already introduced in my family especially when we got our phonograph. When our first cassette tape arrived, i think it was in 1972, we learned to sing with the music... John Denver was a favorite... (What makes it interesting is the location of my hometown where and when these songs were introduced)

I live in Bukidnon, and we grew up listening to country or classic music on the radio every Sunday. Even today, most radio stations in Bukidnon still play old hits, throwback tunes, or country music every Sunday. Listening to the radio is still commonly practiced.

Singers like John Denver, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton were big back then. Country music would get its airtime on the radio usually after lunch on weekends when people had their siesta time.

Rock and country music was and is popular here in the province of Benguet, and all of the Cordillera Administrative Region. Cowboy Movies, outfits and songs are imitated here. They have the hat, the boots and the leather jackets lol. A lot of bands even right now are mostly country music. Even in the bars. So yeah. We also have some country songs translated to our vernacular language 😅

Music is/was/were a big part on our curriculum. We studied it from the momment we step in the classroom. We sung Children song, Religious song, Folk songs, and many more. Then Primary to Secondary we studied local, national and international music. Plus everything we hangout we went to Videoke/Karaoke/Sing Along whatever you wanna call it either in friends house, a Carenderia, Videoke house, street or bar whenever wherever; in short Music is life and we live on it. And lastly our Radio stations are full of schedules; some stations play mainly rock, some are mellow, some mixed POP, RnB, Alternative, and more. Then on Sundays are mostly like this; Old country music, Classic, etc. Everything we tacle depends what type of person you are. we all have a station to choose from. born 1976 and yes country music is part of the music genre we grew up with ❤❤❤ I had to go back to this video because I think one reason why country music became popular is that in the 70's and 80's, so many young Filipinos were interested in playing the guitar so we buy "Song Hits", a magazine of songs which includes guitar chords as learning guides and most of them will have country songs ❤ so we learn basic guitar chords derived from country music and naturally we fell in love with the melody and rhythm of country music
John Denver was big here. My father would always tune in to radio stations that play those kinds of music from Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Trini Lopez and the Beatles etc. I swear my father can even vocally mimic Elvis on the karaoke. 😊
Yeah i grew up listening with some country songs,my parents are from the northern part of the Philippines which is BATANES, we have there we call it Marlboro Country, a rolling hills, greeny meadow. Herding cattles and goats, riding horses..so much country feels. Most provinces here love country misic, they even have rodeo shows/contest. Since in provinces they have farms, local cowboys and dont forget the cowboy hats hehe😊

I'm born year 1999. I remember growing up there's always music going in the house from Kenny Rogers, The Beattles, Chicago, Carperters, Journey, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, and all those great musics that made me love music itself. At some point I even started experementing to listening to different genre of music by myself and fell inlove with classical. It's just so amazing how music is so integrated in our everyday life and there's a genre for anyone and everyone. No one excluded.

When I was stull studying more than 4 decades ago, I used to frequent music bars that had live country music. There were lots of music bars in Metro Manila, Baguio and even in the provinces where country music was played live.

Filipino loves music that radios are always on and during my time when karaoke isn’t popular yet every time there is a new music people buy “song hits” so we would know the proper lyrics of the new songs and waited for that to play in the radio or buy cassettes that we could sing along. And acdg to my mom during their time radios play their favorite music 3x so they could get familiar with the tunes and lyrics and they could sing along. The cheapest way to be entertained is to have a radio on while doing the chores, while waiting in a vehicle going to school or work due to traffic etc music is just part of our life it sets the mood in the morning ..

Sunday mornings consist of us waking up to the our parents having the radio tuned into the local stations blasting oldies while doing chores around the house, and majority of the songs are western blues, country, power ballads, along with opm. just those chill songs that you can sing along while scrubbing the floors and hanging clothes to dry out in the sun :))

Rock and country music was and is popular here in the province of Benguet, and all of the Cordillera Administrative Region. Cowboy Movies, outfits and songs are imitated here. They have the hat, the boots and the leather jackets lol. A lot of bands even right now are mostly country music. Even in the bars. So yeah. We also have some country songs translated to our vernacular language 😅

Yes, we used to listen to every genre. There's this thing in the Philippines where every sunday all the music they played in the radio was from 60's to 90's from western music, American, Uk, and also local music.

Music is/was/were a big part on our curriculum. We studied it from the momment we step in the classroom. We sung Children song, Religious song, Folk songs, and many more. Then Primary to Secondary we studied local, national and international music. Plus everything we hangout we went to Videoke/Karaoke/Sing Along whatever you wanna call it either in friends house, a Carenderia, Videoke house, street or bar whenever wherever; in short Music is life and we live on it. And lastly our Radio stations are full of schedules; some stations play mainly rock, some are mellow, some mixed POP, RnB, Alternative, and more. Then on Sundays are mostly like this; Old country music, Classic, etc. Everything we tacle depends what type of person you are. we all have a station to choose from. born 1976 and yes country music is part of the music genre we grew up with ❤❤❤ I had to go back to this video because I think one reason why country music became popular is that in the 70's and 80's, so many young Filipinos were interested in playing the guitar so we buy "Song Hits", a magazine of songs which includes guitar chords as learning guides and most of them will have country songs ❤ so we learn basic guitar chords derived from country music and naturally we fell in love with the melody and rhythm of country music
John Denver was big here. My father would always tune in to radio stations that play those kinds of music from Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Trini Lopez and the Beatles etc. I swear my father can even vocally mimic Elvis on the karaoke. 😊
Yeah i grew up listening with some country songs,my parents are from the northern part of the Philippines which is BATANES, we have there we call it Marlboro Country, a rolling hills, greeny meadow. Herding cattles and goats, riding horses..so much country feels.

I remember growing up there's always music going in the house from Kenny Rogers, The Beattles, Chicago, Carperters, Journey, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, and all those great musics that made me love music itself. At some point I even started experementing to listening to different genre of music by myself and fell inlove with classical.
It's just so amazing how music is so integrated in our everyday life and there's a genre for anyone and everyone. No one excluded.

Filipino loves music that radios are always on and during my time when karaoke isn’t popular yet every time there is a new music people buy “song hits” so we would know the proper lyrics of the new songs and waited for that to play in the radio or buy cassettes that we could sing along. And acdg to my mom during their time radios play their favorite music 3x so they could get familiar with the tunes and lyrics and they could sing along. The cheapest way to be entertained is to have a radio on while doing the chores, while waiting in a vehicle going to school or work due to traffic etc music is just part of our life it sets the mood in the morning ..

Sunday mornings consist of us waking up to the our parents having the radio tuned into the local stations blasting oldies while doing chores around the house, and majority of the songs are western blues, country, power ballads, along with opm. just those chill songs that you can sing along while scrubbing the floors and hanging clothes to dry out in the sun :))
