Thanks for taking the time to produce this. I'll check my 2020 Mazda tomorrow. You might have saved me a fortune. The world needs more people like you.
@@teeanahera8949 Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, you are correct. There is an anti abrasion tray, for want of a better description, where the harness sits at this point on the engine.
News flash ! The 2014 to 2020 model BT50's + Rangers are time bombs for so many other MAJOR issues. My 2014 BT50 XTR had only 72k and in mint condition, and had always been serviced before time, yet in 2023 I had spend over $10k on major repairs to fuel system and engine + electrical. Got rid of it before the motor blew, as they randomly do. Good luck !!
Maybe that’s what happens when manufacturers start cross breeding. Isn’t the 3.2 a five cylinder vehicle motor, maybe if they just stuck to manufacturing their own power plants, these might not happen. Just saying. Also still prefer Bt50/ Ranger, to pusotas puslux, which overpriced, overrated underperforming gas guzzlers. Lol.
Just because you've had a problem with dirty fuel and most likely wired into your vehicle loom & caused your own problems, Thats no reason to blame the vehicle and maybe check how Toyota are going with there issues and Isuzu too the warranties are alot higher than Ford Ranger and shared BT50 build ,Isuzu has really slipped on there quality control and under there warranty if you take them off road & they break good luck with that when you lodge a claim
Thanks for posting this information I went out and checked my 2017 bt50 with only 35000 is on it and when I lift the wiring you could see rust residue on the timing cover and there was a hole worn into the wiring wrap, so thanks again 👍🏻
Use a p clip in that exact location. Bolt it to the timing cover. The other area that rubs through is the intercooler hose on the cold side. Check under your hose where it contacts other parts on the engine.
@@mickcaldwell7930 last week I pulled the ute body off mine and put a Ranger wildtrak rear end on it. Bolted straight on , didn't even have to cut a wire. Looks crazy wierd but I love it
Surfing the Tube as you do and found this post. Checked my 2017 3.2 Everest with 68kms and sure enough found a bit of wear on the cable. Not too bad but applied your remidy. Thanks for your post.

Great tip, here’s one back at you…..after you snip the cable tie either apply a lighter or whatever you use for melting plastic, those snipped ends are like razor blades just waiting for a victim…the worst thing is we set our own traps every time we cut them!
Good call! Thanks for the Info. My 2016 Ute has 125,000 Km on the clock with an indentation in the factory installed protection between the main and the secondary harness coming off at almost the same spot behind the main. All fixed now. The BT50 is my 9th Mazda. All the other 929 sedans and a 121 sport were manufactured in Japan. My first 929 did over 400,000 Km without missing a beat. The BT 50 has served me well and will continue to do so for many more Kms, I am sure but it is not built to the same standards as the Japanese models.
That's why toyota is the best they tie things up pretty sweet had heaps of toyotas since was 17 years old so for 33 years never had this ever happen on the yotas
I had a similar issue with my 2014 BT50. There is a group of hoses running along the passenger side of the motor, bundled together with a flimsy plastic open ended clamp, and beside the fuel filter housing. One of these hoses is the heater hose, which, I believe, was the subject of a service rectification program which entailed replacing the hose with one that had a sheath for protection. Anyway, for whatever reason(I believe shoddy workmanship by the dealer), this hose separated from the group and fell down so that it was rubbing on the fuel line coming from the filter. This resulted in a hole being worn allowing the coolant to spray out until the system was empty. Luckily, the car went into limp mode and didn't cook. We were halfway between Ban Ban Springs and Goomeri. This happened after the dealer(Grand Prix Mazda, Aspley Qld)had replaced the hose at the previous service. Thank goodness we had RACQ Ultimate. Picked us up with a tilt-bed and dropped us off at the showgrounds in Goomeri, where we stayed the night(slide-on camper). Then came back from his base in Kilkivan and dropped us in our driveway at home on Brisbane northside. Well and truly paid for the extra cost of the Ultimate cover.
Yes I know about that problem I have heard nasty stories. I fitted a engine watch dog to the head it will let me know if that hose goes before all the coolant is pumped out. Thanks for the reply. Regards Greg.
Just doing my intercooler hoses and thought to check, damn lucky bc it had just started to wear away the outer wrap, just cut the hose i took off and did the exact same thing to fix. Beaut info mate!!
Hah! My 2019 Everest 3.2 had it's EGR dump the coolant into the inlet manifold @ 100k, a common occurrence I've since found out. I was lucky and still under Ford warranty. They supplied a hire vehicle, paid accommodation and fitted a Ford remanufactured engine. If you still have warranty ...sweet.
HI Interesting re the water cooler EGR, my 08 PJ ranger did the same thing, but being pre-warned I got the mechanic to by pass the coolant line. Both the head and 5 speed auto shit themselves. The Ford man at the dealer said they all do that! This is the last non aussie Ford I will buy. No help on after warranty claims but they don't let on.
I would be finding a suitable " P " clamp and fit to it. They come in Single "P" or a Double "P" which really has a longer opening for 2 hoses or electrical cables. Thanks for the heads up I'll check my mates. Cheers
What a great service to tell people about this future fault in their car. Some of the video all I got was "mumble mumble mumble" but in all honesty I could have put the video on mute and still got the point and the advantage of completing this
That was easier to fix than replacing an engine that had a piston go through the cylinder block. Hopefully the new six cylinder will be more reliable. Happy motoring
Thanks for sharing mate… Wouldn’t you think Ford, with all the hype and promoting of these vehicles, wouldn’t have overlooked such a simple design fault like that ? 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Nah I have had both Bt50 and ford ranger I have been driving 4 wheelers since 1968 I never had a problem with them.Towed a 21ft van all over Australia and heaps of places not so much as any problems they are the best 4x4 out there at present leaves hi luxes for dead.
I don't know what it is hey? Some people must get dud ones.My 2013 bt50 has been tuned , big intercooler , it gets driven hard around the city 250 000kms never had a problem
Please do may be the same but I did check a late model wild track and it had that cable supported this was only 2 weeks ago it belong to a mate of mine and he only just bought it.
Checked today and sure enough, exactly the same. The cable is an alternator cable. I don't know why the cable support doesn't reach all the way to the alternator. I wrapped rubber around it and held it in place with cable ties. Seems like a pretty big oversight on Ford's part.
Thank you for this. Only just had this link shared recently, and checked my PX2 low km, sure enough mine had started to wear the outer wiring insulation. Went to Supercheap bought some 19mm heater hose to protect it.

I am sick of getting nicked by super sharp zip ties. Why people can’t just leave the damned tail on I don’t know. If you ever need to undo it and don’t have snips you can just depress the tongue with a little screwdriver and push the tie end back through.

Oakesy did you find it strange that the Mazda dealer didn't point this out to you at a service? Which is a lead into my real question. Why didn't you buy a hilux?
Well I did find it strange that this fault has been around from when Mazda and Ford released the new model with the 3.2 motor and not fixed the rubbing issue. Now to the Hilux I just didn't like that year we have them on our BHP site and just wasn't impressed buy them. I dive a 2022 D-Max at work now and same with this ute. I do understand that these Ute's are in a harsh environment but the D-Max just doesn't cut the mustard. I did like the 3.2 motor in the Mazda and at $41990 drive away was hard to beat. I had a number of Ute's and wagons over the years and all have had some small underlying issues. The only car that hasn't cost me a cent if my wife's, 2012 Grand Vitara. This has been a great little car. Thanks for your feedback. And safe travels.
A bit of old irrigation pipe, about a 32mm piece lying around, is even more durable. Not sure why you cut the zip tie off, the ends are super sharp, if you leave the tie you can undo if you have nothing to cut it with. Just a small screwdriver or similar, depress the tongue on the zip part and push the end back through.
