    How are you getting those colours!!! Is that the brightest you have those lights throughout the day. Or does it get brighter white light?

    • @ReefBuildersVideo

      This is the full daylight spectrum that this tank 'peaks' at during most of the middle of the day. For our thoughts on colors, do have a listen to our latest session of Reef Therapy ALL about coral coloration: th-cam.com/video/TNNOxN2yEcc/w-d-xo.html

      Yeah the story behind the blue zing BN is the stuff legends are made of, I've recently been contacted by another reefer who thinks they experienced a similar occurrence with Seriatopora, would be neat to see it happen again in my tank between the Zing and the green tip!

    So dope that reefbuilders has teamed up with top shelf aquatics! I love that company especially since I’ve temporarily moved back into the Midwest because as you can probably imagine the shops are few and far between! ( I don’t like to bash small businesses within this industry / hobby but the one shop that I do have near me have one of my systems black bugs and they DESTROYED a few thousand bucks worth of gold torches and some other torches alike ) . So I’ve been very big on ordering online from clean distributors around the country and I have to say EVERY SINGLE ORDER HAS BEEN 100% pest and algae free! Always good looking frags. Only once I had a chalice sent to me that got a little banged up and it was replaced right away. Just got 2 blue torch corals which is odd , at least to me anyways lol I’ve never seen blue torches before. They aren’t like Oregon tort blue but in between deep blue and purple and they are the stubby Malaysian style torches if I were to guess. Beautiful nonetheless! To jake and the reef builders team, great looking system! Absolutely stunning and the corals colors are super vibrant so great work with the upkeep fellas! It’s always a great day when @reefbuilders drops some new ⛽️ 🔥 💣 🤯
    Looking forward to the next video drop! Great work guys and thanks for helping me stay up to date and included within the hobby/ industry because where I’m at is the equivalent to Africa's Sahara desert in terms of reef keeping lol 😂 . Much love and happy reefing everyone 🤙🍻

    I love very diverse tanks. That’s how I’m building my current nano reef. I’m trying to hit as many families of coral as I can in a 20 gallon. So far I have nephthea, mushrooms, anthelia, and zoas for soft. Chalice, acans, torches, and hammers for LPS. Within the next couple months I plan to start adding some SPS montis, cyphastrea, and birdsnest

    Such a beautiful system. Love all your tanks and videos. I do wish sometimes you would say the common names of the corals not just the scientific names. Would make it easier for some of us to look them up and purchase a coral you have shown in a video.

    • @ReefBuildersVideo
      @ReefBuildersVideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Common names vary by country, by region, and even over time. I can’t tell you how many corals used to be called one thing and now are called something completely different after just a few years.

    what are the settings for the lights?

  • @Alex_Correa
    @Alex_Correa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I genuinely try very hard to fully appreciate the results of LED lighting as I appreciate halides and/or T5s. My personal preference for metal halides and/or T5s always is reinforced when I look at the details of most systems under LEDs though. One thing is to watch a tank from above, another is to look at the details in colony formation and find dead shading spots. The A. horida has some weird growth under the LEDs. It shows the thin skin over the skeleton, as you have pointed in one of the Reef Therapy sessions, as not so healthy IMO. The P. eydouxi is the worse coral showing the affected colonial structure, but that coral is noticeable for being one of the hardiest to replicate what we see in the wild anyways!! The "Bonsai" is also a good example of the real distorted colony formation due to LEDs. Can you show the pictures of the A. horida in the wild before collected? It would be awesome to see those pics!!! It is true that most corals will look different from what they look in the wild, after we place them in the tanks, independent of what type of the artificial light we use because of so many other variables too. LEDs do a great job on reflection and showing the diodes' unique blues and violets reflected on the corals. Still halides and T5s will be superior offering a much better complete spectrum and distribution/ delivery of photons allowing better health overall IMO. Thanks for being transparent showing those dead spots. Looks ok from the top though. Not my preferred spectrum, but should be great for those who are into the blues' fashion. The fishes' colors look kinda artificial to my eyes, but still beautiful! Some very nice species there!! I love the Pavona, the Caulastrea and the Turbinaria!!!! Oh, that Herpolitha!!!! AAAARRGH! Very nice video!! Like # 601. Thanks for sharing, Jake! Nevertheless a great video to watch! All the best! Aloha!

    I don't think that pocillopora bailed out: I think it spawned. I had the same issue in my first tank, and its spawns stung (and killed) one of my acro frags. I did few google searches and found out that pocillopora are known to spawn in reef tanks.

    • @ReefBuildersVideo
      @ReefBuildersVideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What people call spawning in Pocillopora is actually unique, asexual form of reproduction called ‘polyp bail-out’

    • @Tohei08
      @Tohei08 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ReefBuildersVideo I see. I always thought polyp bait out was when corals are going downhill, it's their last ditch effort to survive. Didn't realize they bail out to 'spawn' when they're doing well too.

    I'm thinking of getting a (small) convict tang to add with my yellow when i upgrade from 60 gallon cube to a bit bigger tank (custom 3 foot, roughly the dimmensions of a waterbox 100.3 - as big as I can go in the current appartment). Are they any "chiller" than other acanthurus tangs or should I go "safe" with a smaller bristletooth?

    • @ReefBuildersVideo
      @ReefBuildersVideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would add both a convict and a tomini along with your yellow when you move to the larger tank, they make a great team

    • @aljazpetric1885
      @aljazpetric1885 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! The convict seems like such an underappreciated fish (as you mentioned in the pod), not as much info on it compared to powder blue or powder brown. Might go for the squaretail tang with it.
