  • MCRD Family Day January 20th 2011, the day before graduation. Bravo Company, Platoons 1029, 1030, 1031, 1033, 1034, 1035 marching before they come to see their families for the first time in 3 months. I had camera troubles the day of graduation or else I would of had a video up for that too.

I was stationed at MCRD between 1985-86. I never failed to be moved by the weekly Friday graduation ceremony. I came away from my assignment with an immense respect for the Corps and for the DI's; I felt honored and priviledged to be a member of that team.

We are a Marine family, our son having been deployed in Ramadi, Fallujah, the Philippines, and Thailand.
Let me tell you that it brings tears to your eyes and you cannot speak when the boy who couldn't even take care of himself the first time you saw him, becomes a U.S. Marine. Out of respect for all Marines, I never say Semper Fi. But God bless the United States Marine Corps.

My son should be graduating in 2 weeks. I wanted to get a taste of what it's like. It brings tears to my eyes watching this. Are they all wearing zinc oxide on their noses? Any comments on what to do the rest of the day on base? Congrats to your Recruit and to you.

@MomGiveACare Haha I never asked if my brother did. The majority of all the graduates did have pretty noticeable tan lines on their heads from their covers. I'm sure your recruit will have a few things that they'd want to show you. There is a museum there and a place to eat some breakfast and lunch. I'm sure you guys would have enough to do. Good luck and thanks for watching!

the top of your ears and your nose would burn and peal constantly, no healing we ended up putting on vasaline on to help with it. we had no sun block. see the pt field where the physical training is done and maybe you will understand just how hard it is to become a marine.
