Can't beat my 2015 wrx off the line straight in speed, but this thing shits on my car in terms of looks, having an lsd, reliability and building modification (let's be honest, the thing can contain a nuke and still be okay), and comfortability with practicality is hard to be beat by any sport compact. Not only the si, but even the regular civic is fucking disgustingly sick. Honda did an amazing thing in bringing back the enthusiasm to us. I can't wait to see the type r in America on the streets
nicholas Chin Hope to review the Type R later this Summer. Will have a review of the regular Civic Sport coming later this year as well. Glad to see Honda is kicking butt for us enthusiasts again.
Jake Stumph Yeah. Toyota has been off for a while, and while the gtr is doing great, even in its final year, the 370z has no love, and there is no true Sentra SE-R out. But at least Honda out of the big Japanese 3 has given us this. Plus the mustang's entry ecoboost, shelby 350 and shelby 500 out later, and the dodge demon. This year has been great, and I can't wait for the reviews for the type R and see how it handles in the us
This might be one of the best Si reviews out there, most complain about not having VTEC, but yours focuses on why it doesn't need it and how the car is definitely an improvement over the previous
One of the best done reviews I have seen, great job. I have put 18000 miles on my 2017 SI sedan, no issues, and still look forward to driving it every day.
I drive my cars for over 200K miles. I love a high revving car... as long as it belongs to someone else. There is a difference between a car that has to be revved and one that CAN be revved.
9th gen owner here. Dyno Blue pearl fb6. I almost want to supercharge one day, get a good tune from vit and have a go at the new 2017 si.. I'm pretty confident a f/I 2.4 with a good tune/bolt ons would make right around 300hp/200tq. Would be a blast!
Yeah, this is a styling gripe of mine as well. It gives the impression that the car can't tell if it's coming or going. I tend to like exaggerated/crazy styling, so I gave it a pass.
great job! where was the microphone during the"sound" segment (started around 4:45), was it the camera's mic or did you guys put a separate mic near the exhaust or elsewhere?
I ran a small "lav" mic from the GoPro, and put it about 2' away from the tail pipe. Didn't have time to get a bunch of shots, so I forgot to grab in-car mic video.
Peak power isn't even until 5700RPM. Seems like it's making good power to 6500, especially compared to other cars in the segment that fall off pretty hard up top.
yonda ila the EX-T/Sport is as fast as my 2010 in the 1/4 mile. I had a Sport on loan for an upcoming video, and it matched my stock 2010 Si at the drag strip. These turbo Hondas are super capable.
I'm having a tough time choosing between the new Civic or the focus ST. I'm looking to big turbo whatever I purchase, just trying to figure out what platform is better
If you have big plans, go with the Focus. More displacement, and crucially, more development time for the aftermarket with the EcoBoost. I'm sure the aftermarket will be huge for the Si, but it's a brand new car, with a new engine architecture. It's going to take some time (and a few blown engines) to figure out what works with the platform.
Los Angeles. Si started arriving at dealers about 2 weeks back. Depending on your area, it may take some time to start seeing them. A friend ordered one "late" and it will be here in a few weeks.
in the first showings of the new SI, they mentioned that it would have rev matching, but in all of the latest reviews, i haven't heard one journalist mention it. is it just going to be on the type R?
j lau I don't think the Si has Active Rev Matching. Or if it does, Honda didn't mention it to us, and there wasn't an easily noticed button or setting in the car for it.
Didn't have my datalogger for this trip, but I'd wager with a perfect launch, this car will be right around 6 seconds flat to 60. In terms of acceleration, this car definitely pulls much harder from a roll over my stock K20-powered Civic Si.
Jake Stumph oh wow I had a 2015 si and loved it. was just worried if this one is slower. may have to test drive to decide if I want one in a couple years. I heard there is some kind of plug in tune that will make it produce 230hp or something like that.
zachery D i think with and Injen Intake it would gain you about 20hp since its turbocharged. intake and turbocharger blend in very well for powergain without tuning
I thought the turbo in the Si was bigger than the ex-t? Heard it from a little Honda conference or meeting where they used the same slides you used to explain the Si
For most people, the $10,000 price premium of the Type R (before mark ups) will be tough to justify. However, sounds like I got the invite to the Type R press event later this Summer, so I will be able to see exactly how much the price premium is justified.
Jake Stumph oh im not saying the 10 grand mark up isnt worth it. in fact i think thats a bargain for a track beast. but with all dealers only getting 1 type r each, you can assume there will be a mark up.
wassup with honda and does hideous fog light vents there so big and doesnt fit the car so disappoint on this si i guess there effort was on the type r and lets not forget no more vtec 😭

Also, like the video says: this thing is a friggin steal for performance.

Never in my life would I say this si looks better than my 2017 WRX...
+Lazy Boi
That is why BIAS can be blinding.
This might be one of the best Si reviews out there, most complain about not having VTEC, but yours focuses on why it doesn't need it and how the car is definitely an improvement over the previous
iMiguelAOG Thanks for the feedback!
No problem, look forward to seeing your other videos
It is not an improvement from 9 gen in any department
Wow Jake I'm impressed, I think you have some talent as an automotive journalist.
Thanks for the kind words.
Needs to slow it down a bit, stumbles over his words at times.
I’m picking one up in a week! Great review. Probably the best one I’ve seen and I’ve been going down the rabbit hole for two weeks on these cars.
Love my 18 SI Coupe!
Honda has underrated this engine it makes about 200hp on the dynos which means it's about 215-218hp at the crank!
Totally underrated.
I absolutely love my 2017 SI coupe... 100% agree with this review
One of the best done reviews I have seen, great job. I have put 18000 miles on my 2017 SI sedan, no issues, and still look forward to driving it every day.
Nice review, others don't seem to have given the praise the car deserves. I'm looking to buy one just waiting for it here in Florida
Everyone has a different take, give it a drive and see what you think.
I drive my cars for over 200K miles. I love a high revving car... as long as it belongs to someone else. There is a difference between a car that has to be revved and one that CAN be revved.
Would love to see more reviews like this
More reviews in the pipeline. Have some really fun stuff coming up!
The EX-T is 1.5L and I gotta say, it's pretty fast, I gotta try this Si
Im pushing 26 PSI on my full bolt on 2018 Civic Si I started with 23 psi ktuner map and when I get my intake and fmic it went up in it's own to 26
Wow, great review! Nice job.
Thanks for the kind words, it's a good little car for under $25k.

I know this guy before he got famous!!
I forgot that the 9th gen Si 2012 coupe weight 2877lb
YOU BET YOUR SWEET ASS IT IS 😂
It all looks ok except the weird black faux grill thingys on the rear.
Yeah, this is a styling gripe of mine as well. It gives the impression that the car can't tell if it's coming or going. I tend to like exaggerated/crazy styling, so I gave it a pass.
excellent review. the included imagery of the differences and improvements are great to include. +1

I dont want to know how expensive it is to change those shocks!!
Damn! 20 psi of boost!
Manuel Carrillo III just for 205hp fail
Albert Vidal good point.
Great review
Thanks!
Do you HAVE to use premium? Or will regular do?
Djramz99 running 87 octane in any turbocharged application is only going to end in tears, regardless of what people may say.
Why am I hearing after 5500, power drops off significantly. Meaning the turbo is undersized.
Peak power isn't even until 5700RPM. Seems like it's making good power to 6500, especially compared to other cars in the segment that fall off pretty hard up top.
Fast variants of the Honda Civic is the Ex-t, sport, si, type r these are the fastest Honda Civic on the road
yonda ila the EX-T/Sport is as fast as my 2010 in the 1/4 mile. I had a Sport on loan for an upcoming video, and it matched my stock 2010 Si at the drag strip. These turbo Hondas are super capable.
hmm i thought the new Si-s only came in coupe or sedan and the type r came in hatch form. i didn't know the si is available as a hatch
You are correct, there is no Si hatch. Only the EX-T/Sport and Type R have the hatch.
Preach. Hoping the CTR satisfies my hot hatch cravings.
great review, but you killed me when you said "that LSD is awesome" 😂
I'm having a tough time choosing between the new Civic or the focus ST. I'm looking to big turbo whatever I purchase, just trying to figure out what platform is better

What area are you in ? Dealership near me doesn't have them yet
Los Angeles. Si started arriving at dealers about 2 weeks back. Depending on your area, it may take some time to start seeing them. A friend ordered one "late" and it will be here in a few weeks.
Did they get a good amount in at the dealership
J Nick Autotrader currently shows 20 new Si in the greater LA area, and I'm sure there are more that aren't listed.
in the first showings of the new SI, they mentioned that it would have rev matching, but in all of the latest reviews, i haven't heard one journalist mention it. is it just going to be on the type R?
j lau I don't think the Si has Active Rev Matching. Or if it does, Honda didn't mention it to us, and there wasn't an easily noticed button or setting in the car for it.
What is the 0-60?
Didn't have my datalogger for this trip, but I'd wager with a perfect launch, this car will be right around 6 seconds flat to 60. In terms of acceleration, this car definitely pulls much harder from a roll over my stock K20-powered Civic Si.

Yeah, Hondata is already out the 1.5T engine. Honda left a bit of power on the table for the aftermarket to pick up. :)
zachery D i think with and Injen Intake it would gain you about 20hp since its turbocharged. intake and turbocharger blend in very well for powergain without tuning
MrGrandetaco707 20hp sounds crazy but if so that would be incredible. so tune intake and exhaust would probably give you alot more power
I thought the turbo in the Si was bigger than the ex-t? Heard it from a little Honda conference or meeting where they used the same slides you used to explain the Si
It's the same turbocharger, a TD03, but with a different impeller design.
awesome car and review....I subscribed...
might as well get this over the type r. every dealer is only getting 1 type r. and you bet your ass it will be markd up.
For most people, the $10,000 price premium of the Type R (before mark ups) will be tough to justify. However, sounds like I got the invite to the Type R press event later this Summer, so I will be able to see exactly how much the price premium is justified.

does this overheat like the civic type-R?
I whipped it around the Honda test track all afternoon without issue.
wassup with honda and does hideous fog light vents there so big and doesnt fit the car so disappoint on this si i guess there effort was on the type r and lets not forget no more vtec 😭
Albert Vidal look at the coupe it looks much better.
What about the rev hang?
buildmorefarms100 Better than the base Civic, but definitely still there and annoying.
How much is this car in the states after all the up charges??
Joel I paid 30,000 out the door for mine... some have sticker prices of 37,000 haha.
Joshua Everage That's wild! I've heard people paying upwards of $60,000 in the states 😳
Joel haha yea... people are buying the civic Type R for $55,000-$60,000 here. Shld be $34,000 but dealerships are putting $20,000 markups on them
I paid 25 lmao
Bro driving skills 6 loool
compare it with other sedan! i think it so stupid to compare to its old car...
does that have a exhaust on it or is that sound stock
All stock, but for the audio test, I had the microphone about 2' away from the exhaust, so it would pick up the sound better.
The only car in the world that this car is not uglier than is the Pontiac Aztec. That rear end is absolutely hideous. What were they thinking?
Car is very frugal
No Vtak no buy
West Up Fair enough. Hard to beat that K20 sound. ;)
This motor pulls MUCH harder than a PeeTec.
new type r rubbish like my 2009 si better
Slowest you mean hahaha my 8th gen makes 633hp with just 5k turbo set up this is ugly af as well
