- Welcome to this settings guide for P3D v5.3. In this video I'll show you the settings I use to get the best performance and graphics in Prepar3D v5. I've tested these settings in nearly 30 scenarios and they work brilliantly for me. Of course, you might need to adjust these settings a bit to suit your own system, but hopefully you find this video helpful. Thanks for watching, and make sure to subscribe for more P3D v5 videos!

Turn "Texture Filtering - Negative LOD Bias" from "Allow" to "Clamp". It reduces shimmering.
Great video in covering the settings. I've played around with settings for XP11, MSFS, and P3Dv5 and the major performance/appearance settings that has made all of them run and look better is using NVIDIA settings to set the card to run the specific application at 16x Anisotropic filtering and disable it in the actual SIM settings. Then, set power to max performance for those specific SIMs (and any games for that matter). For whatever reason It gave +20% better frames, very smooth camera movement in the cockpit, and of course the visuals are much improved.
This should be the standard for all "settings" videos - great stuff
Thanks!
I've been flying over in MSFS2020 since its release. Thought I'd return to P3D and do a clean install with v5.3 HF3. Since I was away for so long, I had lost track of graphic settings. Your video quickly tuned my system for a maximum visual experience while producing nearly 60FPS. Well done, and thanks! You have a new subscriber!
Great to hear that the video helped you! Thanks!
Thanks dude, I just got new computer and I am planning to get P3D v5..thanks to you I know what to do. Thanks again
Glad I helped you out!
My System is I7 7700k and GTX 1070 (8GB Vram) and 32GB RAM. It runs superb with your settings. PMDG 777 at KJFK with 35-40 FPS! I´m really surprised! Thank you, regards from germany!
Happy to hear they work well for you! Wasn’t sure when I uploaded this if they’d work well for other people but it seems they do!
This is a great video and helps even for lower spec systems like mine. Completely off topic, have you ever considered a career in radio or as a voice-over artist? Because your voice sure sounds like it!
Thanks, it’s good to hear that it helps lower spec systems out too because I know my specs are higher than most people. Also thank you very about about my voice!
Which specs do you have
@@eindeveloper6225 You won't like this. I'm on a Lenovo Legion i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz, 16GB RAM, RTX 2060 6GB VRAM and 1TB SSD. I've actually managed well so far. CTD's used to happened with 5.0 and 5.1. From 5.2 onwards, no CTDs ever.
@@beefybassplayer Mate, this sounds good...I have a Ryzen 7 5800X, RX580 8GB, 16GB RAM and I want to buy p3d but I think it wont run that good..
@@eindeveloper6225 I'm given to understand that the AMD's had some issues running P3D, but drivers have been updated. As long as you have updated drivers for your GPU, this actually won't be a problem. What may be a problem is the CPU and you may have to check that extensively before diving in and buying it. Your GPU btw should work decently with v5. They've optimized how the sim works with DX12. It is much better than how it started out. I'd only suggest researching on the CPU side. As with my specs above, I run on medium settings for almost everything. It still does the trick and the visuals are pretty good for me.
Hey! Do you use the academic version? Thanks
Yes I do
Thank you this worked very well for me. Especially true for LVFR Miami
Glad to hear it helped you out! Yeah Miami isn’t easy on performance 😂
greetings, do you think this can be applied on p3d 5.4? these are settings when flying OFFLINE correct? thanks for your time
thanks for you answer, you can explain, how install and configured reshade in video please ?🙏
Hmm yeah I’ve had a few people ask me about this, I think I’ll make a reshade install tutorial. You can search on TH-cam right now though and there’s a few that other people have already uploaded if you want to install now
@@TheFlightShow Thank you so ahre, but it would be good if you did one, that raises your status on your channel
Woahh it works good, thanks!

Thak you for the great video! 😀
Thank you for watching!
nice video, question, reshade and envshade works together?
Thanks! Yeah Reshade is compatible with EnvShade. I wasn’t sure myself but the TOGA projects website mentions that they’re compatible so that’s why I use them both together
can my gtx 1060 6g and cpu i5 9400f do that ?
Nice guide!
Hopefully it helped you out!
Hey @theflightshow I tried all of your settings and they work great!
This is my rig:
CPU: Intel Core i7-11700K
GPU: Nvidia RTX 4070
SSD: Samsung 980 Pro NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB
SSD: Kingston SNV2S1000G 1TB
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK64GX4M2E3200C16 2x31.5GB
MBD: Gigabyte GA-Z590 AORUS ELITE AX
I run DCS in a 3x4k monitor setup.
My p3d 5.3 crashes instantly after installing envshade... What could be the reason? (DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG) And I have rx 6800 so vram shouln't be the problem.
Try reducing some settings in P3D like cloud resolution, texture resolution, airline traffic. I don’t think EnvShade causes problems like that
Thanks for sharing this video ! ✈🧑✈️
Thank you for watching!
Really, really helpful thank you
Glad it helped you out!
Question(s): Nice video,
1.You said nothing about the V sync setting within P3D. I run P3dv5.3HF1, similar computer to yours, I9-9900KF overclocked to 4.1, 64GB RAM 3200, but a stock 1080 Zotac with 8GB VRAM, which clocks at a steady 2011MHz. My monitor is a Samsung 55" TV, curved and I run it at 60Hz refresh rate, but it is not V sync compatible. I see your V sync was set to "on". Just wondering about V sync?
2.I see your Nvidia settings, other than Power Mgt are pretty stock; I often hear / read on settings and some people like P3D to actually to manage the anti aliasing, texture resolution, etc. and not through the Nvidia settings. What are your thoughts?
3.I forgot to ask: ever since I installed P3Dv5.3hf1, my mouse inside the P3D settings windows stutters like crazy. I can hardly use the mouse. This may not be P3D related, I run Windows 10 Pro and my drivers, etc. are updated, including Nvidia drivers. It's crazy, I NEVER had this issue whatsoever. All of a sudden last night, it stopped on its own, then after a while it started again. I thought I was rid of it, but these menu mouse stutters are horrible. I have tried and checked everything. Anyone else having this issue? My previous versions of P3D all the way back to version 3 never had this issue. Maybe it could be Windows related? IDK, but for now I can't figure it out!!! Inside the cockpit and elsewhere it is fine, its just when I open P3D menus.........
I have V-Sync on but it doesn’t seem to affect my FPS at all. My monitor is V-Sync and FreeSync compatible but not G-Sync compatible btw. For the Nvidia settings, I think a lot of them are on ‘application controlled’ by default anyway. Tbh I haven’t really tested a whole lot with the Nvidia settings cause they don’t have any real noticeable impact for me except maybe a tiny bit more GPU usage. I haven’t installed the hotfix for v5.3 yet so I’m not sure if your problem is related to it, but I’d say it probably is.
@@TheFlightShow
Heyy! I jsut watched this video. I have a AMD Ryzen 5 5600X at 4.7ghz and a RTX 3070. So I should be fine. Will test and update later on if these work good. You got a new Sub though :)
Hopefully they work well for you. Thanks for the subscription!
@@TheFlightShow Hey! Update! I managed to get the FSLabs to work, but I am only getting like 29-33 fps at EGLL. And If I were to stream I dont think it would handle it. Can you make one that is good for streaming aswell as good performance :) Please! But no hate on the video though
Hmm well EGLL (Aerosoft presumably) is my worst performing airport and always brings lower FPS (for me 30-35). Try some other airports as well. For streaming, I think maybe reducing the settings that affect CPU usage would probably be a good way to help performance. Try reducing anything related to autogen, scenery, draw distance, road vehicles, AI traffic etc and see if that helps at all. I find reducing AI traffic and autogen draw distance is the best thing for EGLL.
@@TheFlightShow Okay! I am doing some tweaks and stuff so We will see
Where do I put the Lucas reshade preset file? The .ini thanks!
Put it in the reshade folder in your P3D main folder. Then start the sim and click the ‘home’ button to bring up the menu. Then select preset and select the ini
You have a good voice you should do radio
Haha thanks!
Great video explaining everything, I have a ryzen 5 3600 with a 3070 ti, do you think these settings would be good?
Yeah I think these settings should work well with those specs
@@TheFlightShow Great thanks
Great video it helped me out alot but and from 30 i was getting 80 fps. After a while though The 80 fps suddenly droped to 30 again (without changing any settings) do you have any idea of what happened?
No idea man sorry. The FPS change very much depending on scenery and aircraft as well
Hello if you use active sky on the volumetric shall they be turned off as menu?
I use active sky with the volumetric clouds. AS P3D is compatible with them so it works great
Hey there, would you mind sharing your Envshade settings? Regards.
Hey man, they’re included in the video at 6:12. They’re pretty much default though
@@TheFlightShow Oh… I must have missed that 😅
Cheers.
thank you!
What gpu model do you use?
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 (ASUS ROG)
With the new PBR Ground textures from LM can i use Orbx Global base ?
I think so, I have had any issues
Thanks for your great video...I am running p3d5.3 with Qw787-9 and not using any Add-Ons for Airports...
After I did the upgrade from P3d5.2 --> p3d5.3 I lost all of my runway and taxiway markings. I will try to use your settings as a starting point to hopefully regain the painted marking that I once had on p3d5.2 ... I will let you know how it turns out.
Setting show a marked improvement....
Good to hear!
Nice settings! only 1 question about Envshade, some people say you get bad peformance to have it on High quality insted of High peformance? have you notice something?
I haven’t really tested high performance but my FPS is fine with high quality so it’s not a problem for me personally
@@TheFlightShow Thank u going to test it out :D
Where did you find a Envshade patch for v5.3?
I haven’t patched anything, just used envshade like usual and haven’t had any problems. I’ve heard of some people having issues with envshade in v5.3 but I haven’t had any problems
Envdir has an updater
hi, could u do a tutorial with how to install 5.3hf2 and all the scenery aircraft addons install! i fly msfs2020 and xp11 currently!but i really want to fly boeing and PMDG is the best as i heard
To be honest I would but there’s so many other tutorials out there and everything’s pretty simple to install (easy installers). Also my addon list gives a good indication of the addons to buy, but certain ones (such as OpenLC) are potentially unnecessary if you’re on a tighter budget
@@TheFlightShow tks though, just having one question, which version of p3d u think is the most comfortable and will be accepted by the middle range computer like a 1660ti GPU, one of my friends told me it's p3dv5hf2,but i just don't know where to get this suitable version
Using the newest version of P3D v5 should work well. I wouldn’t advise using older versions, just use the newest one I think.
@@TheFlightShow TKS,great video!keep doing what ur doing
Hello mate do you p3d v5.1 could work on Intel rcore tm i5 1035g4?
Yeah I think P3D will work with that CPU but you’ll need to use much lower settings than me.
@@TheFlightShow thx for your answer, BTW u got a new subscriber :D have a nice day!!
No problem! Thank you, you too!
Great video!
How many Frame rate can P3DV5.3 run on your computer with this setting?
Thanks! It depends on the scenery more than anything. At London Heathrow, my performance is the worse, but I still get 35FPS in the cockpit and 30 outside. At most other airports though, such as WFSS Hong Kong, I get around 40 in the cockpit and about 50 outside. Of course once you’re in the air the FPS are much better. On climb or descent it’s over 45 always
Hi, do you have hyperthreading on or off?
I have it off
r u from australia? me too!
Half Australian half Kiwi!
wow ive never heard your voice before
haha yeah I've used in in a few videos before but not for a long time :)
Check the pmdg video
hi bro. how much fps you get?

How do you have the motivation to keep flight simming? I get tired of it and don't sim for a month
The truth is I don’t fly at all except for videos on this channel. So one flight every week or two is all I do. A lot of ‘flight simmers’ do like a flight every day but I have no idea how they don’t just get bored or how they have the time. As you can see from my video uploads, I didn’t upload for like 7 months between March and October this year, because I got bored of flight simming
with your video 10 years of tweaking came to an end (at least till next update)
That’s great to hear!
Can I9-10900F run these settings with 3070
Yeah I think so definitely, your CPU and GPU are both better than mine so it should work fine
