Let's be realistic here. The only major problem with 2024 was the launch with the overrun servers. Everything else is far beyond what 2020 was when it launched. This is going to be pretty amazing.
Not entirely true. Apart from the release, the main problem is the lack of the ability to download planes. This is very important because it has a huge impact on fps.
Yeah this just proves to me I need to hold off for a few weeks/months and see if they improve it. I only fly airliners with real traffic (batc) and if I want good weather/traffic details...yeah, I think Asobo was not entirely truthful with their requirements. I have an rtx 3070 and already need to use lossless scaling in 2020 just to get acceptable smoothness/fps.
Exactly the same situation as you; it’s just not worth the headache right now. I get that Asobo really limits how much you need to download locally, but streaming every single texture, including planes, was not the right solution.
Really useful video, thanks! My system is comparable to yours, but so far everyone has been trying to show off how it runs on a 4090 GPU. At last something representative of an average powered PC.
Best settings for me so far (5800X3D, RTX3080, 32GB RAM): Ingame graphics settings to "high" preset, change TLOD to 200, offscreen precaching to ultra, dynamic settings set for 30fps and frame generation mod. Super fluid with the quite demanding H145 at VirtualFRA EDDF. Give it a try!
Played 2020 this afternoon and happy days. Dc Designs have a update for concorde.. Definitely looking better to me. Can you do a video on your thoughts.??.
I'm currently enjoying the graphics in VR but I'm seeing a black outline around the planes in VR, would you know what in the settings causes this? (I'm using a pico4 streaming wirelessly on virtual desktop using an RTX 4070ti)
You are aware that you can add aircraft to the community folder for MSFS 2024 juat as in 2020 aren't you? Then the aircraft loads from your drive. Also I noticed you were not using the dynamic setting which works like Smooth Flight, or Auto FPS, although in my testing it doesn't work as well as either of those addons did in MSFS 2020, but it does make a difference in FPS. Also for users of 30 series Nvidia cards you can gain massive frame rate improvements by using the frame gen mod which allows you to use frame gen on 30 and 20 series cards. Another way to gain frames is to upgrade the dlss and dlssg .dll to the latest versions, along with some setting changes using Nvidia profile inspector or DLSS TWeaks to chose which quality of dlss you perfer, for example you can make all of the dlss settings render at dlaa quality.
Surely the dynamic settings have to be playing a part here too? They work like the old Auto FPS app. Have you experimented with turning them on/off? Also, what makes you so sure that streaming is affecting FPS? I can believe it would affect texture quality and perhaps mesh LOD/density, but it's highly possible it doesn't affect frame rates that much.
If you recall on day 1 when the servers were overloaded, it was often like a slideshow. Very poor performance and low fps. As days have gone on, the load on the servers has decreased and performance has increased.
My specs are i7 8700k with RTX 2080. It runs surprisingly well on medium to high settings (clouds and pre-caching set to ultra) on WQHD. However, this is close to the recommended specs for this resolution. It appears that almost everyone is on 7800 X3d or intel 14xxx with RTX 4090 nowadays. I'm waiting for the new gfx cards generation to hit the market, but I think until then I'm doing fine with GA VFR flying.
Hello Gav, appreciate your help in advance - may I ask what is the memory size of your RTX 3060? I am asking this because I have almost the same spec as your PC, except I only have 16GB RAM but with RTX 4060 (8GB). It's basically a stutter show when I fly Fenix in MSFS2024 but I want to make sure that the bottleneck is with my RAM, not my display card having insufficient VRAM, when using your settings. Thanks a lot!
Hi In fs 2024 with both thrust. Airbus and boeing throttle quad, engine 2 at toga goes up and drops to idle. Any thoughts? Prob repeats in all 2024 airliners
Hi Easyjetsimpilot - my new MSFS 2024 just won't find my Thrustmaster Boeing yoke/throttle; defaults to mouse / keyboard only. Downloaded latest drivers for Thrustmaster but still no joy. PC brand new, windows 10 premium deluxe. Any suggestions please. Steve
Thanks Gavin. A really excellent overview of some key graphical points here. I have to say that, overall, I'm very encouraged by the general smoothness of the sim. There are bound to be a ton of graphic optimisations in the coming months, so this strikes me as a pretty decent start. Of course right now most of us are running the sim in a fairly vanilla fashion in terms of add-ons and I still have a nagging concern that the streaming of scenery could be a real hindrance when we start adding the likes of Fenix and PMDG planes. One would hope/expect that Microsoft will be able to improve the streaming performance significantly from where it currently is at. Still lots of questions to be answered, but we do seem to have come a long way in, what?, three or four days. Thanks again.
I have the 3060/1080 as well - I noticed that you don't use the N Vidia ap settings - DLSS etc. - I haven't got into my 2024 settings yet - but the NVidia ones improved my 2020 quite a bit at the NV chosen standard quality etc.
@@Easyjetsimpilot Just a question - you would be aware of Microsoft's error in that they keep reverting DLSS back to a Sept 22 file - and have you the latest DLSS file? - as I said - with the same setup - I see no blurring of the instruments - or anything else on MY 1080 50" TV monitor
Thank you for the observations! Honestly, the strange thing to me is that relatively few settings seem to make much difference for me in terms of frame rate - it's one of the first games I've encountered where levels of detail seem to matter fairly little. My GPU is almost always running near 100% regardless, and unless I do something drastic like turn off the clouds, it's always somewhere in the high 20s - low 30s. If I throw in frame generation over it, it's certainly very playable, if a bit underwhelming compared to FS2020 (where I could count on a steady 45 fps or so). The really big difference seems to be in how efficiently it can load that detail - if I put off-screen caching and texture quality to high, my visuals quickly turn into a blurry mess (unless I stay in the same place and let it load). The textures do gradually load in, but it takes a long time and whenever I move, the blurries reappear. It's even worse with streamed aircraft - if I stay in external view for a bit and go back to the cockpit, it has to reload the entire thing and it can take a couple of minutes. I thought it might be a network bandwidth issue, but no - it barely uses over 12 mbps on average (a small % of my available connection) in non-photogrammetry areas, and it actually seems to be worse there than in photogrammetry cities. Easy fix for me there has just been to turn off the off-screen precaching, and (especially) turn the texture quality down to medium. It's less sharp than at high or ultra, but it loads instantly. I have a sense that something is very oddly optimized there at the moment and will get better. It's very strange how indifferent to levels of detail or density of traffic this sim is - certainly nothing like previous titles! That may suggest that things like traffic are now less of a problem thanks to proper multicore optimization on the CPU, but it doesn't quite explain why the frame rate won't budge even with major changes in level of detail.
This is a very weird one for me. Been spawning in at LFPG, EGAC, ESSA. Playing around with the settings. Specs AMD 9 7900X, 32GB RAM, GeForce RTX 3070. MSFS 2020 is very smooth. MSFS 2024 however is a different story. I can't use TAA. That kills the FPS. At the moment it's DLSS or nothing at all. I can start the game up and get 80-90 fps at EGAC. Even with the Fenix. As soon as i start doing something or start moving with the A/C, camera, go back to settings etc, it plummets to 5-20 fps. If i'm lucky the game locks itself to 30fps for some reason. The only fps lock i have, at the moment, is a ridiculous 1000fps in Nvidia Control Panel. Reinstalled the game several times but nothing seems to help. And it can happen after a few seconds and it can happen after 10 minutes.....as long as i don't change the camera too often. Internet connection is between 100Mbit/s - 150 Mbit/s Any pointers would be gladly accepted because i'm utterly confused about the whole situation.
I have the same issue with the airliners. If I am in a Cessna or any small plane, I get almost 80FPS, but the second I go to a big airport with an airliner, it drops to 15-20 and I just can't do it. I will be patient and wait for them to work the kinks out.
That’s because the airliners are the most resource intensive things on the sim( the more complexed, the more resources) followed by the airports and weather conditions.
I’m running a 3090 and my frame killer is my 7680x1440 resolution, as it was in 2020. I’m getting lower frames with similar settings to 2020 but my experience seems to be smoother overall with less stutter even when my frames are in the high 20’s. I’m worried how bad it’ll be when adding in 3rd party airliners and live traffic though. My GPU utilization is 100% and 5900x CPU utilization is low and pretty evenly optimized across all threads. I’ve yet to find any magic levers to get my frames up substantially but as long as it remains smooth, I can ignore the low frames.
Thanks for this. Just tried tweaking my settings informed by your video but MS decided to update the sim before I could try them which has so far resulted in 3 CTD. Looks like some liveries don’t work anymore. I’ll have yet another go…
At 8:28 you say these settings control density rather than quality . However if you look at the description on the right it's literally the fourth word
I would like to support this statement by saying that i am facing the same issue with my 4070 setup. simple aircrafts such as the C172 and the 737 max 8 (which is supposed to be complex but it isnt in the sim) dont have a large impact on my fps but the inibuilds a320 hogs my framerate, i get 60-70 fps in free cam but only 25 in the cockpit or when the aircraft is in my view
What gets me is the cut scenes at the beginning when you start the sim 2024 the graphics are so RICH AND COLORFUL ! But then when you get into the sim and fly around the graphic colors are WEAK AND PALE almost WASHED OUT !
I have a 10700k and a 3060. It's not going well for me... ground moves in tiles at times. I have frame generator and dlss dlls too. I have target of.30 fps in the sim. I see you don't have that set, wonder why?
Hey man. I thought having the same graphic settings like in msfs 2020 would still improve the fps in 2024. But I am getting way worse FPS. Is that a issue in the system and will improve in the future updates? Or is it supposed to be like this.
@@Easyjetsimpilot yeah it can deliver everything apart from a local model of the plane ... which is why we still have no mods of the inibuild planes. Honestly thats the real issue for me according to inibuild they could provide the paint kit but ms specifically decided against it for the moment ...

Has anybody tried the Lossless Scaling app from Steam in FS2024?
You can run DLSS frame gen on 3060 with the latest DLSS 3.8.10. There's a video by IslandSimPilot explaining how to install, it's very simple. I did some tests today trying to accommodate every possible bad scenario - super clouds, moving fast next to hi density geometry, heavy airports, photogrammetry etc. I'm getting a minimum 40-45fps low level flight, 55-60fps 200feet and above, with Terrain LOD 200 and everything on Ultra, texture filtering 16x - in 1440. GPU is also capped at 62C/120W in afterburner.
@@nouraiz1990 There is some screen tearing with all types of frame gen. The most recent DLSS 3.8.10 is much better in this regard. Still some tearing is still present in fast moving pixel areas such as screen extremities. It depends how much you're prepared to tolerate. Given the framerate and sharpness advantages (DLSS + DLDSR) it's worth experimenting with if you're on a lowish end card.
I've not got above 14fps yet - on the rare occasion that I've managed to connect. I did an equivalent test on FS2020 sitting on the ground at Egcc (maccosim) and got between 25 and 30 running the Fenix and with FSLTL traffic. Really really underwhelmed and disappointed with 2024.
@Easyjetsimpilot thank you, mine is similar but find it still struggles to load scenery, and objects etc, feel like those with standard Internet will really struggle. I live in the countryside so fast fibre isn't an option yet, feels like my only way is to get a starlink and pay £75 a month for it. Which seems unfair when 2020 was streamed fine.
I would be completely happy if add ons were a thing of the oast and only purchased through rhe MSFS store. Add ons put a strain on this already GPU demanding title. Id choose performance
This is my current set up and the SIM appears to struggle in loading flights and courses etc. Alienware Aurora R16 Gaming Desktop - Intel Core i7-13700F, 16GB DDR5 RAM, 512GB SSD + 1TB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GDDR6 Graphics, Air Cooled CPU, Windows 11 Home I'm thinking of upgrading the Ram from 16gb to 64gb but has anyone got anymore short term fixes that won't cost an arm and a leg Loading times seem weird if they're via internet connection as I have a 1.5GB download, guess it's the servers rather than my connection
What SSD? Are they both SATA or do you have any NVME drives? If not then look at getting at least a gen 4 drive on sale. Higher speeds won’t necessarily translate to performance but it’s nice to have. Your issue is most likely ram though. 16gb is not enough. I’d get a 32gb kit for now. Exactly the same situation as you; it’s just not worth the headache right now. I get that Asobo really limits how much you need to download locally, but streaming every single texture, including planes, was not the right solution.
So, the take away is this flight simulator is now fine - so long as you don't use an aircraft?
😂 Good one
Been saying this for years. Asobo made a world simulator. The flight part is an afterthought
You are a genius! Thank you ever so much you helped me get flying again with an RTX3080 laptop! I salute you good Sir!
Really useful video, thanks! My system is comparable to yours, but so far everyone has been trying to show off how it runs on a 4090 GPU. At last something representative of an average powered PC.
Thank you for this. Getting 45fps avg with a Radeon 6600 and these settings. smooth gameplay too.
I look forward to a new review after everything settles down. Thanks for sharing!
Love this video! What CPU are you running?
Played 2020 this afternoon and happy days. Dc Designs have a update for concorde.. Definitely looking better to me. Can you do a video on your thoughts.??.
Very helpful as ever - please could you confirm what your internet download speed was whilst recording this video ? Many thanks. Richard
It was about 20-30mb/s
Have you tried looseless scaling. It helps a lot
Good video. Thank you for sharing.
Any tips on which settings i should use? NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ 3070, AMD EPYC™ 7543P from 2.8 to 3.7GHz 8 vCores, 32GB ram
Very helpful information, thank you
Those settings work a treat thanks gav
I'm currently enjoying the graphics in VR but I'm seeing a black outline around the planes in VR, would you know what in the settings causes this? (I'm using a pico4 streaming wirelessly on virtual desktop using an RTX 4070ti)
Where do you get that on screen data from? The one in development mode is just a gray box with very little info. Thanks
The top dev mode menu bar, once activated - select debugging and show FPS
just brilliant thank you
Can i also run msfs 24 with a 2070 super with good fps and visuals?
I noticed that too, the larger aircraft’s do kill 10 to 15 FPS .
@@Easyjetsimpilot ok that's interesting. I have not purchased the sim yet. Just waiting for the dust to settle a bit first.
great. thanks. i now need a experts help. i have several airports i dont see the terminals, i just see gates :( ?
Can you doing a settings video for people with the TCA Airbus Cap Pack?
The sim recognised my TCA Captains Pack automatically and everything was bound by default.
@@Easyjetsimpilotsame but struggling to set up for 737 max
Use the dynamic settings it will adjust settings to maintain the target frames
My specs are i7 8700k with RTX 2080. It runs surprisingly well on medium to high settings (clouds and pre-caching set to ultra) on WQHD. However, this is close to the recommended specs for this resolution. It appears that almost everyone is on 7800 X3d or intel 14xxx with RTX 4090 nowadays. I'm waiting for the new gfx cards generation to hit the market, but I think until then I'm doing fine with GA VFR flying.
So If I wanna play on 1080p 30 fps, I would prob do 1080p ALL MID-high + DLSS while utilizing motion blur to get rid of the low frame feeling
I've never seen higher than 11.5gb vram usage on ultra textures, 3440 x 1440
Hi In fs 2024 with both thrust. Airbus and boeing throttle quad, engine 2 at toga goes up and drops to idle. Any thoughts? Prob repeats in all 2024 airliners
Thank you for this informational video
I have an rtx 3080. What would you bump up with that card?
Great presentation. Thanks
I got RTX4050 32GB DD4 Ram 13thGen I5 CPU and Samsung 990Pro SSD which graphics should I run ?
What are the recommended specs for this simulator?
I have a 3060ti and MSFS 2020 does good on Ultra but MSFS 2024 still needs some perfomance improvements.
How did you bring up the FPS measuring tools?
Settings/Advanced Options/Developer Mode.
Hi Gavin could you make a video on how to setup your tca captains pack many thanks
1080Ti here. Runs good with your settings and fast internet which is key indeed.
I have problems with ground/trees not buildings. The lower you go the more stuttering starts.
I have the 3060/1080 as well - I noticed that you don't use the N Vidia ap settings - DLSS etc. - I haven't got into my
2024 settings yet - but the NVidia ones improved my 2020 quite a bit at the NV chosen standard quality etc.
I find DLSS makes text rather blurry.
@@Easyjetsimpilot it's AI upscaling the entire image from a lower resolution, so text in particular will look pretty horrid.
@@Easyjetsimpilot Just a question - you would be aware of Microsoft's error in that they keep reverting
DLSS back to a Sept 22 file - and have you the latest DLSS file? - as I said - with the same setup - I see
no blurring of the instruments - or anything else on MY 1080 50" TV monitor
Hi I have a 3070 do you think I could change it a bit more? Or just stay the same as you recommend
So, what good enough specs do i need, and which PC is good enough?
Why doesn’t you use nvidia dlss? Isn’t it better?
Thank you, Gavin! Have you tried the frame gen mod in FS24? It works, installation is the same as in FS20. Give it a try!
Hi can you do a video on the control setting up. Airplanes and helicopters thanks
Hi great videos very helpful, can you also make videos with key bindings with tca airbus quadrants and other controller settings thank you
well i'm glad someones getting in and playing it, 3 days after launch and im still getting the hanging at 97%. Havent even seen the main menu yet
Restart
That's weird, 8 hours after launch i got in and it has worked ever since /Sweden
Internet connection is between 100Mbit/s - 150 Mbit/s
Any pointers would be gladly accepted because i'm utterly confused about the whole situation.
No one makes a settings video for older cards but your card is maybe the lowest ive seen from these kind of videos and I appreciate that.
Thank you for this video
Other than having the 3060ti installed i have the same specs
I have the same issue with the airliners. If I am in a Cessna or any small plane, I get almost 80FPS, but the second I go to a big airport with an airliner, it drops to 15-20 and I just can't do it. I will be patient and wait for them to work the kinks out.
That’s because the airliners are the most resource intensive things on the sim( the more complexed, the more resources) followed by the airports and weather conditions.
@@antoniomaruge8218 Oh I understand. Just hate how I could get 100FPS on High with 2020 and get 15 in 24
Knew this video had to be coming… thank you
I’m running a 3090 and my frame killer is my 7680x1440 resolution, as it was in 2020.
I'm planning to buy 5900x for my am4 platform. Would you recommend this processor?
@@freedivert You would be better off with the 5800X3D I have it and with the extra V-Cache its great for gaming!
Thanks for the video,.usefull 🙏
How do you start Developer mode? I can't. Button is greyed and cant turn it on
will do equally as good with a 3050?
Thanks for this. Just tried tweaking my settings informed by your video but MS decided to update the sim before I could try them which has so far resulted in 3 CTD. Looks like some liveries don’t work anymore. I’ll have yet another go…
At 8:28 you say these settings control density rather than quality . However if you look at the description on the right it's literally the fourth word
I believe they actually control both, from my testing.
I have found that Frame gen mod works in 2024, I used this with DLSS swapper and get 70 ish frames with my 3070ti
how did you get the framerate counter to show ??
Go to settings. Turn on developer mode. At top go along menus and in one of them it says show fps.
How did you solve the blurry scenery?
The servers have improved
What gets me is the cut scenes at the beginning when you start the sim 2024 the graphics are so RICH AND COLORFUL ! But then when you get into the sim and fly around the graphic colors are WEAK AND PALE almost WASHED OUT !
Do settings matter when everything is dependent on cloud and the capacity of servers?
Definitely - as you're changing what textures you're streaming.
Interesting stuff 😮 ..
Would be ideal to have the aircraft on our pc's it seems
Thanks
I have a 10700k and a 3060. It's not going well for me... ground moves in tiles at times. I have frame generator and dlss dlls too. I have target of.30 fps in the sim. I see you don't have that set, wonder why?
Hey man. I thought having the same graphic settings like in msfs 2020 would still improve the fps in 2024. But I am getting way worse FPS. Is that a issue in the system and will improve in the future updates? Or is it supposed to be like this.
It's probably like every new sim, they've upped the ante in what the sim can deliver - but you need the most powerful PCs to access it.
@@Easyjetsimpilot yeah it can deliver everything apart from a local model of the plane ... which is why we still have no mods of the inibuild planes. Honestly thats the real issue for me according to inibuild they could provide the paint kit but ms specifically decided against it for the moment ...

i have a 7800x3d and 4070 super and still cant find my best settings
I too have an RTX3060 GPU and 32GB Ram. My CPU is a Ryzen 9 5950X. But my monitor is a 32" curved widescreen monitor that runs at 3440 x 1440 resolution. At the moment, I have left the settings at medium. But I will be doing tests and messing about with the settings to see what fps I can get. Has anybody tried the Lossless Scaling app from Steam in FS2024?
What's the program called to see your FPS?
You can see them in the sim, by turning on developer mode then goto the debug menu (I think) and show FPS.
Thanks for the amazing guide... And with Nvidia AMD mod on top it's very smooth... 😊
Thanks
You can run DLSS frame gen on 3060 with the latest DLSS 3.8.10. There's a video by IslandSimPilot explaining how to install, it's very simple. I did some tests today trying to accommodate every possible bad scenario - super clouds, moving fast next to hi density geometry, heavy airports, photogrammetry etc. I'm getting a minimum 40-45fps low level flight, 55-60fps 200feet and above, with Terrain LOD 200 and everything on Ultra, texture filtering 16x - in 1440. GPU is also capped at 62C/120W in afterburner.
But frame gen mod causes screen flickering
I find frame gen to make textures, particularly text, rather blurry.
My main isdues with DLSS is text becomes rather blurry.
@@Easyjetsimpilot Yes, it blurs moving text but in combination with DLDSR (upscaling and downscaling), dials/text can look really sharp.
Really really underwhelmed and disappointed with 2024.
i have rayzen 7 and rtx3050 ti i was getting 40-60 fps in msfs high settings by on msfs 2024 low end settings and im getting 25-35 fps
Whats your internet speed out of interest?
20-30mb/s
@Easyjetsimpilot thank you, mine is similar but find it still struggles to load scenery, and objects etc, feel like those with standard Internet will really struggle. I live in the countryside so fast fibre isn't an option yet, feels like my only way is to get a starlink and pay £75 a month for it. Which seems unfair when 2020 was streamed fine.
How did you get into developers mode on 2024?
There is an option in the settings.
I would be completely happy if add ons were a thing of the oast and only purchased through rhe MSFS store. Add ons put a strain on this already GPU demanding title. Id choose performance
This is my current set up and the SIM appears to struggle in loading flights and courses etc.

I'm thinking of upgrading the Ram from 16gb to 64gb but has anyone got anymore short term fixes that won't cost an arm and a leg
Loading times seem weird if they're via internet connection as I have a 1.5GB download, guess it's the servers rather than my connection
