Very good discussion. Your reviews are awesome! I think this headphone uses the eargonomic acoustic refinement, which just a fancy way of saying they angle the transducers to give the impression that the soundstage is wider, kind of like moving your speakers a little further apart from each other in the room. Sennheiser does this with other 500 series headphones, with the exception of the 58X. That extra sense of spaciousness makes 500 series headphones really nice for movies and gaming. It’s legit. But at the same time, sometimes the perceived extra spaciousness, while it sounds really cool, doesn’t always sound equivalent to how I experience natural sound while in a room without headphones. I think the 600 series might be better at replicating the way I hear music in a room. But I am definitely looking forward to trying these. I’ve had/have most of the 500 and 600 level headphones and enjoyed them very much.
Same here - i absolutely do not have any problems with stage width of HD 600, it appears queit natural to me. But after like a week i noticed that sometimes imaging near the center can be a bit wierd) Tested HD 560s, HD 600, HD 650 and HD 660s in a showroom and chose HD600. Mostly because of ideal tuning for me and magical vocals and mid-range instruments. Yeah, HD 560s and 660s are more spacious, 660s is even better in almost everything, except vocal doesn't blow my mind, and balanced cable in box, but still price... And tuning of HD 560s just not as close to my perfect as HD 600
Keep it going Josh! Big things are in your future. Please remember to keep it technical the way you do with a lesser review on looks. I am always looking forward to your next review. So, a 660S (hence the -60S) sound style in the HD 5x5/5x8/5x9 style chassis. For the price I'm seeing they are a pretty attractive deal, but the naming convention is weird. If you showed me these, and then the name, I would think this was in between the 559 and 599 in terms of sound.
The only question I have is whether they are more or less neutral than 58X. Because I want a neutral sound and a good bass extension. If these are just like 58X but better, it's a contender. If not, I will have to go with Massdrop.
These, 660S or Sundara? CONTEXT: I just cancelled my drop panda order, especially since import fees are killing and because user reviews confirmed it was slightly overhyped. I decided not to retire my mdr-1000x as a travel headphone. So, these at 200 or Hifiman Sundara at 350 euro, or a 660s?
Can you get any of these used or demo them at all? Otherwise you can blind-buy, try them, and re-sell if you don't like them i suppose. But you will take a hit.. As for my two cents: I have both HD600 and Sundara (among others) but for this comparison it's closest to what you're asking. I have those two as they each do things differently enough to own both. Yet I'm still interested in the 560 as they seem to solve some of the issues with imaging and "veil" with the HD6 series in general. Senns are also the most comfortable for me by far. At this price you may as well snag HD560, they are cheap enough to try out (hopefully in Europe they are as well) and you can still look at a planar for a different and complimentary sound. 350€ sounds high for Sundara as they list at $350USD new.. and is there duty/vat/taxes on top of that? May not be worth it if so.. BTW Hifiman still has QC issues. My Sundaras cut in and out depending on how you hold the cups(!) and it's definitely a build quality issue. Warranty is already a hassle in Canada and I'm not sure how it is in Europe but keep that in mind. Never an issue with my Senns in 8+ years and besides, I could fix them myself if I wanted with parts being available. Not so with HFM. Edit: just to add, as I didn't touch much on the Sundaras sound - they have much better sparkle up top when comparing to HD600; so they are brighter but with that comes some siblance. Bass extends more of course on planars as well. But mids are not the strong point. Again, different and complimentary.

Should this provide better sound quality than the AKG's K612? Is it a reliable upgrade from this? I was about to buy the HD650 but now im looking towards this ones ty
Just got these over Christmas. I'm a bit disappointed by the build quality compared to the 599 SE I have been using. The glue on the headband is visible and peeling, and the plastic has some blemishes here and there.
I have the hd599, how do you think would they compare each other?, I mean I actually love the soundstage of 500 series and was looking for something on the 600 series, but all comments seem to tell they are good and precise but loose that soundstage. These seem like a good middle between series or that's what I'm understanding. Would love to see some comparisons
I heard they can be driven without an amp with ease and sound good, an amp will definitely give them the fullest potential and help fill out the bass. A tube amp will make them sound more open if you’re wanting to spend more.
If you can avoid duel sided cables it's better unless the cable is way too heavy and drags you down in one side. That's not the case with these headphones.
Why are they putting that bump inside the earcup? That thing that sticks out... :((( This could be my next headphone, it fits everything I want, but I tried on the HD598 and it bothers my ears. If that bump wouldn't be there, it would be perfect. But because of that bump, I'm still looking for a similar headphone elsewhere...I didn't find a proper open back headphone with one cable design, replacable jack cable and nice sound and long lasting comfortable fit. This sennheiser would be perfect if that bump wouldn't be there :(
are these as fun as the dt 880 250 ohm's? I like the beyer sound and a treble that is sparkly but not overly done. Or will these have the same kind of "viel" of the hd650's?
Joshua, whats the voodoo magic you do with the audio for every intro in your video's that makes the music sound as though its somehow uncompressed? I don't know what I'm talking about, in case that isn't obvious. But still, what gives!?
Josh, have you tried the TYGR 300R from Beyer? Looking at those and the new 560S for a music/gaming setup. Looking for something with better imaging than my HE4xx.
Hi, ive had this headphone for a while but im looking into improving audio a little mainly gaming but wanted to ask what beginner\budget dac/amps you could suggest? Thanks

Damn. Wonder how they sound. I also think tuning Sennheiser in 6** series is good, but frontal image and dept kind of sucks. I took a look into Solder Dude review - hmmm, no low mids bump like 58x or 650, wider image. Distortions look good, only slight bump around 7k and dip in 3k area similar to 58x and 660. Is it going to disqualify 58x in Josh's book?
Hey Josh, really enjoying your reviews and comments around all things headphones, great work mate, I have the 599se , and would be great to get your opinion on these and if I should invest in the 560s, I run mainly off mobile phone and Samsung tablet , cheers, hope to hear from you, Dave
Between my brother and I, we have owned many Sennheiser headphones, and generally Sennheiser headphones lack bass. In fact its so bad that I have started promoting the idea that "audiophile" means "no bass".... On that note, the sennheiser HD800s Reference.... Are the ONLY pair of Sennheiser's that we've bought that actually has bass the way music should. And sadly they are ridiculously expensive for most people. And the reason the bass is "natural" in said pair, is due to the "reference studio sound signature". Pretty much every other sennheiser in comparison lack bass. Now some might think me bitching about lack of bass, means I want bass cannons, like those Sony Xtra-bass headsets.... No. In audio, a flat neutral signal means bass should exist. Flat bass response, flat mids, flat highs, nothing increased. 99% of "audiophile" labeled headphones lack bass. It blows my mind. Doing proper headphone testing using a rig to measure output, most audiophile headphones have around 3 or more db less in bass response, while mids and highs sit at the neutral response location.... So far, only two "audiophile" headphones around the 300-350 mark have had proper neutral bass response..... The sony mdr-1am2 and hifiman sundara. Only two that sound above their price range. In fact, with slight equalization, I can get them both to sound like the super expensive sennheiser hd800s reference. However many "purists" will bitch that its wrong to eq to fix sub par frequency's or cut down on over sensitive frequency's (hifiman sundara have about a 4db boost at 8, eq it and its fixed). On that note, again, most audiophile headphones, if you try to eq the bass back to proper neutral, the speaker itself will bottom out and buzz making mechanical noise.... Meaning it cant handle even natural bass response. Kinda sad. Most open back headphones have this issue. Semi open in my mind are the best of both worlds, you get proper bass like a closed back, but get wider sound stage like open back.....
GoblinPhreak the HD518’s actually have a good amount of bass. Sadly they have the infamous Sennheiser treble veil. I still use my pair but only for certain types of music.
@Kris Moodley Yeah i watched his video also, i currently run my HD660s through a balanced 4 pin XLR into my Schiit Jotunheim amp, i guess for the price these 560s cost i can always buy try and return if i dont like, my biggest gripe with the 660s is the lack of bass, i feel if it had just a tad bit more they would be perfect for me
I recently switched from the DT1990 pros and I enjoyed the bass response from them but found the treble at times to give me a headache but not had any of those issues with the HD660s, I still own my 58x Jubilees and DT 1990 pros though so I have choices if I fancy a switch
If you can get your hands on a set of Ollo Audio S4X I would highly recommend a listen... If we're talking about reference quality (that's what sennheiser makes me think of)... The S4X is flat but not boring, well built, incredibly detailed and resolving... and well priced for the performance (I think).
For 200$/EUR they should have kept 6 series build on 560S. I'm a bit worried about that one-sided earcup yoke, have seen some images of it breaking, and also have heard some people complain about plasticky creaking. Some metal would be really welcome. Especially since we can get Beyerdynamic DT880 for about 150$/EUR, and it has more solid metallic parts.
I have them. One-sided earcup yoke isn't problematic, unless you literally throw them anywhere without caring. I also don't notice any creaks and i think DT770 for example, have much more noticable creaks because the headband is made out of metal parts and they make noise when touched together. Sure beyerdynamics have better build quality, but sound quality is actually quite terrible for the price. So i'm actually blown away by these cuz i just got them yesterday, and i think that for the price you're literally getting a bargain by Sennheiser itself. The build quality is totally alright with these, cusions and pads are much more comfy than Beyer, but you need to wear HD560s for quite a bit when you get them cuz at first they clamp a lot.
As for the build. I have had I think 4 of the Sennheisers with the same build. Literally wearing the PC38X right now. None have ever broke on me. Not a single thing gone wrong. Have used some so much I had to replace ear pads because worn etc. It's plastic but it's surprisingly sturdy. I mean there must be a reason they have kept it for over 20 years by now. They are also some of the most comfortable headphones you can wear. Because they are so light. At first they tend to have high clamping force, but they ease out over time. I wear headphones for hours. literally 10+ hours a day when home. I have no speakers or soundbars I listen to everything through them. So that says something.
Those intros are a treat for the eyes as well as for the ears.

@@02honeydew yeah I do watch him, I think my taste is closer to Josh though, also DMS seems to have no medium point, stuff is either complete shit(all philips) or god tier(all sennheisers) I feel like there's no way these have better bass extension, detail or speed than sundaras but I can't really know, I'd rather see someone compare them directly...
@@ragecandy I've only seen two videos of DMS now to be honest. I completely understand how you feel I think you're just going to have to try them yourself for the final verdict. I would love to get these but unfortunately, if a headphone has even minimal clamp, it gives me an instant headache which sucks because I haven't found a single headphone that is comfortable for me to wear for extended periods of time.
You can use a balanced cable and run them balanced, even with the single entry cable.
This or HD58X?
Kind of worried it might sound better than my 58x, it already beats them in image.
Sundaras
i now have a hd 599 it is worth upgrading?
I just got these headphones and the clamping force has been giving me headaches. What have you done to break these in besides just wearing them?
Great amps för 100 euros in Europe?
I've seen multiple people comparing the Sennheiser 560S to the Beyerdynamic DT880 (which I love). Does anyone have a detailed opinion on it?
Great review
Can you make a review for the lcd2 fazor and compare it to the ananda ?
what was the music in the end?
Darude - sandstorm
How do they compare to the hd599?
Came for the headphone review, got distracted by the bike. What bike is that in the backround? I was eyeing it the whole video trying to figure it out.
Hi joshua!
Im down to heddphone and arya... when are you going to review and compare? I want your input before making a decision 😊
my 598SR was amazing.. will this 560s be an upgrade?
Name of the songs? Couldn't find them in the description
Should this provide better sound quality than the AKG's K612? Is it a reliable upgrade from this? I was about to buy the HD650 but now im looking towards this ones ty
So, would these be a good upgrade from my trusty PC-166 USB's?
Cycling ftw!!! And great reviews as always
Can you use it with your smart phone?
Excelent video! Why you prefer 58X to this 560s? This sound more crystalline, not so veiled, and the soundstage is too much better...
What was the music in the intro?
Shazam'd it because I also wanted to know. It's called "Never or Right Now" by ELFL
Dylan Chau thanks
Just got these over Christmas. I'm a bit disappointed by the build quality compared to the 599 SE I have been using. The glue on the headband is visible and peeling, and the plastic has some blemishes here and there.
I have the hd599, how do you think would they compare each other?, I mean I actually love the soundstage of 500 series and was looking for something on the 600 series, but all comments seem to tell they are good and precise but loose that soundstage. These seem like a good middle between series or that's what I'm understanding. Would love to see some comparisons
Please do a video on the new bass king now that the fostex ebony is no longer available
Good review and production. Do you need a headphone amplifier to get the most from these headphones?
I heard they can be driven without an amp with ease and sound good, an amp will definitely give them the fullest potential and help fill out the bass. A tube amp will make them sound more open if you’re wanting to spend more.
Does any cable work with these? Does it have to be the one in the box?
how does this compare to 599?
HD560S is way better.
If you can avoid duel sided cables it's better unless the cable is way too heavy and drags you down in one side. That's not the case with these headphones.
Do you think it will be a good gaming set?
With better soundstaging it's certainly looking like it..!
just buy ATH Ad700x
@@GANGSTA5779 bruh those are a decade old, people want their money to go to stuff that’s new as it’s using newer technology
Where are they made?
Do you know if it is better to wait for the 560s to come out in my country or buy other open headphone like the 599 or the 990 pro?
How’s ended?
Hi, could anyone explain the difference between this and HD599. Is this one worth more than the HD599? Thanks.
Why are they putting that bump inside the earcup? That thing that sticks out... :(((
This could be my next headphone, it fits everything I want, but I tried on the HD598 and it bothers my ears.
I had HD598 and I liked them a lot. Would this be a good replacement or should I go with HD599 instead?
Hi, my old favouritr HD595 is broken and i’m searching a replacement. Should i go for HD599 or HD560S?
Josh, have you tried the TYGR 300R from Beyer? Looking at those and the new 560S for a music/gaming setup. Looking for something with better imaging than my HE4xx.
How long did you run these phones in before reviewing the sound?
Hi, ive had this headphone for a while but im looking into improving audio a little mainly gaming but wanted to ask what beginner\budget dac/amps you could suggest? Thanks
Were you using an amp with these? Not sure if I could plug these right into my laptop or if I should also get an amp and maybe even a dac?
would this replace the 58x for gaming ? I got my 58x for 100 bucks brand new. I mainly do gaming and watch movies. I also stream.
can't wait for the full review! Im so glad I didnt click buy on the 58x. literally the next day they announce the pc38x and now this gets released. So much to compare, so little patience loool
No pricing information provided by Sennheiser yet?
it says $200
It says on their website (description of this video). I couldn't find like anything at all about it on Google though.
Is it better than Sundara?
Those pads look Thicc. They look fatter then the standard 6xx/58x pads?
Are these made in ireland/romania?
What's the difference - you pay less in taxes in Romania - it's all automated production and Sennheiser has very good QC.
Folks in Romania need jobs too!
They have a factory in ireland?
@@EvilDobermann huh today I learned, thanks for the info man!
Probably China considering the HD5xx line was always made in China
Hey Josh, really enjoying your reviews and comments around all things headphones, great work mate, I have the 599se , and would be great to get your opinion on these and if I should invest in the 560s, I run mainly off mobile phone and Samsung tablet , cheers, hope to hear from you, Dave
Can these replace the HD558's.
how efficient are these? do i need a powerful amp?
Hey Josh, just wondering, have you reviewed the IE800s ? :3
Damn the intro alone deserved a sub!
Man, its impossible to find these :/
Why the bass response part was cutoff or edited out?
Is that a drop back or do you actually use that bike?
Can you review the sennheiser rs 175 & rs 195 ... thank you
Tyvm for the vid, very informative. Incidentally, I must say that is the most impressive neck beard I've seen yet, gj.
How do these compare to something like the HD660s?
I understood your position after watching Oluv. basically saying the same thing. less veiled and brighter than the 58x or 6xx.
Hmm this or the x2hr ?
Please check out the Yamaha YH-E700A headphones...
