    Truth be told, I've touched an original 909 and own an original 808. These are incredibly close. I've heard all of so called situations on drum machines and copied drum kits and these new boutique units are good for the day and beyond.

      Yes I agree, I had an original 808 back in days and played with a 909. These boxes sound good enough without paying fortunes for the originals.

    Being an ageing Producer, and being around analog/digital synths and drum machines for many years...I take my hat off for what Roland are doing these days. I know the anal analog only brigade have their opinions on “non digital” units. But these things are great. I for one love working with them. 🎶✌🏻

    I always pefered a kit with the 808 hi hats with the 909 kick and snare so the TR-8s is my best bet. I love you spin on the sound of these units, "they may or may not sound exactly like the originals but they sound great". I completely agree.

    They may not be analog but you also have to think of this. When you run it through a daw 100% becomes digital, and you modify everything with Compression, EQ, Warps, etc to suit your style. These are amazing devices

    100% on the "original vs reproduction" the whole idea for me is an affordable method to be inspired on the fly. I personally find it very creative using a physical device against software. I always find myself being considerably less lazy during the process. Thanks for the video!

    I myself have the Jp08 and I think they did a great job ! The only problem for me is that the knobs and faders are ridiculously too small ...

  • @mbrombert

    5 years after this was posted:
    I recently tried out the TR-08 and the TR8s at the GAK music store in Brighton. I really wanted the TR8s before trying it out and was surprised at how much I didn't like it. The knobs felt cheap, the sounds were just decent, the LEDs all over were worse than I ever expected and I hated how the value/presets of the pots at stored digitally - if that makes sense. I then noticed the TR-08 on the side and it looked *so damn good* just sitting there, waiting to be explored. I plugged the headphones in and immediately wanted to buy it. The sounds are absolutely fantastic and the sequencing is so simple and fun, just like the original 808.
    I had the pleasure of repairing an 808 a few years ago and was allowed to use it for a few weeks before returning it. This boutique version is by far one of the best sounding recreations out there, even better than some pure analog clones I have heard/used. I was surprised at how much I loved it. The look, feel and sound of it. Way more impressive in person than in the photos and videos I saw over the years.
    The TR8s was surprisingly gimmicky for me. I can understand it being someone's perfect drum machine though. Very powerful and straight forward but I would buy the TR-08 over the TR8s any day, even though it doesn't even come close in regards to how many sounds it has in it and all the other obvious aspects of it.
    Wonderful device. I imagine pairing it with the SH-01A is fantastic.

      I couldn’t agree more!
      I’ve never felt anything great about the tr8s - the limitation with it being hard quantized is just one of my issues… my MC-707 so much more powerful too, if that’s what I’m looking for.
      The Tr08 however, is a joy to work with compared to the tr8s and the look of it sure doesn’t hurt it either.
      Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion of course but I don’t get the hype the tr8s is getting. I’ve only had one proper session with it though so…
      Glad the tr08 strikes joy - I wish I still had it in my arsenal. 😀

    • @mbrombert
      @mbrombert 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AccurateBeats The MC-707 was there too actually but I did not try it however it looked so good sitting there. There were also some other great ones there but I was only passing by unfortunately. Could have stayed there for hours but had no time.
      I wish it was possible for people to try out every piece of gear before purchasing. You never really know until you hold it and try it out... sometimes it simply doesn't click with you.
      Even a €3,000 guitar may not work for you, but a banged up €250 guitar would turn you into Steve Vai 🤣🤣
      I am so glad I got to try the TR8s and didn't have to spend any money on it to know how much I don't like it haha.
      All the best to you!

    Can you build the rhythm for a complete song with these units? For example, create pattern 1 for 4 bars for the song's verses. Then pattern 2 used for the chorus. And pattern 3 used for the bridge. Combine everything, save as one stereo audio clip. Then transfer to laptop software?

I learned so tricks no doubt. Dude that’s such a sick groove, starts getting crazy when you program the 2nd part. You should do more with Roland gear, your really great no joke 🙌🏾

    • @AccurateBeats
      @AccurateBeats  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's hard to compare them like that. The kick on the tr-08 really has its own identity and the snare has a great snap to it as well.
      The Impact is also capable of creating some really heavy sounds though!
      "Punch"... ??
      I'd say it depends on what kind of punch you're looking for but maybe the tr-08 has a slight overhand for house or dance tracks right of the bat?
      Hard question

    • @hannibalactor
      @hannibalactor 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Accurate Beats To be honest, i expected a answer like that ;) anyway, its interesting that a digital Drum Machine like the tr08, can hold her own against a fully analog Drum Machine like the Drumbrute. Any plans to use them togehter? Running the tr08 through die Distortion Section, combine the individual Sounds...could be fun!

    • @AccurateBeats
      @AccurateBeats  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah! I actually asked people on Instagram if should do a video using all of the drum machines together or just make a sample based beat video with the tr08/09. So I was thinking just that :)
      Although it seems like the people voted for the second option I might make a drum machine bonanza video some time :)

    Right can you have straight hi hats on one bar then dotted or triplets on another bar and have them play one after another? I'm thinking song
    mode and trap music where you get the hi hat patterns. I own a tr-09 and haven't thought about it yet but how would I do this with swing in tr-09? There needs to be more tutorials on these little beasts. I think Roland should update a way to record pitch automation to make bass patterns with toms or the 808 kick. Anyway nice video

    Good review/demo, Accurate, but FWIW, I have the TR-8 with the 7x7 expansions and IMO it's a *much* better deal by far, especially now on the used market. Apples and kumquats, I know. Granted, with the TR-8, you have to live with the *hideous* AIRA color scheme, BUT you get all the Roland #x# sounds except the 505 in a single package with built in effects, lots of hands on controls, USB, scatter, and as of 1.10 step loop. I get the Boutique concept, but for the same money, you can get the whole Roland library knocked out once and for all. Seems like a slam dunk to me...

    • @AccurateBeats
      @AccurateBeats  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You know what?
      I wish I was like you! I wish I could live with the TR-8 but... The color scheme is just too much for me to deal with. I still have huge issues with the DrumBrute Impact and the orange stuff going on there. The green on the TR-8 is just... Too much.
      But yeah! You get it all, in one box. I definitely see the selling point there! :D

      I went with a TR-08 + TR-09 because I can use the full set of sounds of both machines at the same time. The TR-8 or TR-8S do let you mix and match sounds to create your own kit, but you're limited to 11 sounds instead of 22. I also love the look of the originals, and wanted the original workflows too. And the TR-08 has one other trick up its sleeve - you can use all 16 sounds simultaneously via MIDI notes.

    midi and midi Din is not the same ; same port but you won't use for the same purpose ; Din sync is a Roland sync protocole that pass through a midi port ; but inside the circuitry it doesn't work the same ; for example my X0Xb0X have 4 midi port, in, out, thru, and Din ; I can't use the Din port to send sequence or use the midi in to send Din ; I'm not sure you were aware of this so I comment but I like your vidéo and your skills :) cheers :)

    I'd go for the Behringer clones. Mostly for the price and decent output options. If you dont have an interface with many inputs maybe the roland is the way to go as you can switch it to an audio-interface and record into the DAW.

    if its digital, then isn't basically as good as any VST/plugin? couldn't you describe it as a hardware controller for digital sound making?

    • @AccurateBeats
      @AccurateBeats  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jude Sherwood Well sure! It’s not a controller for a software but yeah, it is kind of a controller for its own built in digital engine. Just like the DX-7, the OP-1, any Pocket Operator or the M50.
      There are VSTi’s that offer ma more flexibility and options than these drum machines and the original ones are analog where these are digital.
      As I was saying in the video:
      These aren’t the most versatile or powerful drum machines out there but they are really good for what they are.
      Hardware is (to me) a lot more fun to use but you’re right... Software can really do a lot!
      Thanks for watching!

      Accurate Beats you’re a loser bro, these people go out of their way to comment on your videos and you just spread hate and all based on one video? Is Roland paying you or some shit because your support of them and hating on Behringer just makes you look like a shill

    • @AccurateBeats
      @AccurateBeats  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Oh I so sorry if I came off like that. I was just kinda shocked that the demo of the Behringer was so bad.
      I know it’s a prototype and I agree I was a little too hard on it in my comment.
      I understand that the build quality will be something completely different from whats shown in that video and I’m sure Behringer would never release a product that sounds like that either. I think it’s really stupid of Roland to not make an analog recreation of the 808 themselves and I have very high hopes for the RD-808!
      I’m sorry if you felt like I was spreading hate with my comment. That was really really not my intention. I’m a sincere fan of the TR-08, I think it’s a lot of fun to use. I might be a “loser” but I’m not dumb... I do appreciate analog circuitry as much as the next guy and I’m looking forward to the release of the RD-808.
      I’ve also checked out all of the videos on the RD-808 now and yeah... The 808-day video was by far the worst, maybe even the only really bad video on it.
      Thanks for your comment man. Really made me think

      Accurate Beats wow man tbh I wasn’t expecting such a genuine response from you. I only said something because I noticed about 5+ comments where you immediately shot down people being excited for the behringer clone and it really left a bad taste in my mouth as I’ve also been excited for a bigger/analog version of the 808 whether that be from Roland or a third party. Thanks for taking the time to explain your feelings towards the situation and not just lash back at me. You almost lost a potential fan at first but you may have just gained one with this response! Stay cool man!

    Not worth of buying in 2018, because one can use G-Stomper Rhythm or Caustic or Transistor Drums 2 (free VST) or RVK-808 rompler (free VST as well) instead. One of my drum-machines is made of G-Stomper Rhythm on android tab + cheap Zoom B1on (as an SFX-module) - I can pack them in my notebook bag and produce beats anywhere! The same with Transistor Drums 2 VST - just install it on any old netbook with free LMMS, take the cheapest midi-controller and you will get the incredible drum-module ready!!! The hardware equipment was actual back in 1980s-90s, but in 2018 it can be replaced with VSTs/android emulators/free romplers and etc.

      OH Hush Anton, ya goofball. No one asked what hack BS budget gear you're using and think is better than a reproduction unit of a timeless classic. And we certainly all know that there are 1000 different ways to get the same exact sounds that these units produce-Thats not the point. The point is that you can now buy the original interface, from Roland, in a smaller and more reliable package and play it in any setup imaginable. And they sound incredible.

      The final RD-8 sounds (and looks) pretty good. I'm sticking with my TR-08 though. Sounds fantastic and has much better DAW integration. The individual outputs over USB work a lot better for my setup, and the whole thing is fully controllable by MIDI.
