    I would see John live at the Plymouth folk club back in the 70's even have his first album Morning Brings the Light, the club was run by Bill Lang, we kept in touch up to a few year back but i am not sure if Bill is still with us his christmas cards just stopped coming. Happy days and i was a lot younger now 70 but it seems like only yesterday. John still has it timeless music.

    As with many truly natural talented people - makes something very difficult look so simple. An absolute delight.

    Decades ahead of Tommy Emanuel, only more highly skilled and not so much show off ego! Love it!

    Always loved John's arrangement of this Dave Qualey tune.

    I knew him since the early 70s, and he gets better and better -
    He's absolutely GREAT!!!

    This tune was composed by Dave Qualey, who used to play it back in the seventies on a nylon-strung guitar -- and it was amazing, as were many other of his own compositions. To my ear, the tune is much better on a nylon strung guitar -- not saying that John James plays it badly, but when Dave played it, it was absolute magic.

      I'm a huge John James fan, but what you say is true. David Q is a great player, but it is also the nylon strung guitar that makes this.

    How in the world does he keep that all straight in his mind and then make his fingers do it??? Rubber fingers, I'd say so, too. Fantastic playing, John!!!

    Simply amazing, still have fond memories of seeing the 6 fingered wizard in a folk club near York.

    Got told off by an irate fan when I dared suggest that Tom Emmanuel was too flash.........nice guy and all that. I think of JJ when I hear someone trying to beat a tune to death. This is sublime. Thanks for a great post.

      Looks like a Martin OM28

    • @TT-wz6xy
      @TT-wz6xy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah Martin OM28, 14 frets so OM, if it had been 12 frets the 000-28 , same bodies but the number of frets tells us it’s an OM

      Martin 0000

    • @robertnewell5057
      @robertnewell5057 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @kurt8805 has the right of this. It's actually most likely an M36 (which was JJ's favoured guitar for a number of years). M=0000 in Martin language. It's not a 28, as it has a bound fretboard (35s and up only) and it certainly isn't an 0M as the pickguard is the wrong shape. In passing, most 000s have 14 frets to the body; it is the scale length which differs between 0M and 000.
