Stephen King movie adaptations are hit and miss, but when they hit they are knocked out of the park. “Green Mile”, “Shawshank Redemption” and “Stand by Me” are all SK and all in my top 10 favorite movies of all time.

@@MiddleAgedBob Frank Darabont was meant to do King's adaptations. But the most challenging books to adapt are those where King's characters are driven by supernatural forces. In a book it's easy to describe what's happening, but in film, very difficult. Darabont was able to avoid that fate.
Green Mile is one of the most accurate adaptations I've ever seen, with nearly every line in the movie coming directly from the book.
I watched this in the theater. The level of audience engagement was more than any I've seen before or since. When Percy stomped on Me. Jingles, there was an audible gasp and screams of "No!" When Percy told Dale there was no Mouseville, people screamed "you bastard!". There was open sobbing when John Coffey died.
100% correct. The entire room went absolutly bat-sheet crazy.
"You tell God the Father it was a kindness you done." Killer line. Makes me want to weep.
It takes me out every time!
Fun fact.... Bruce Willis suggested Michael Clarke Duncan for this role. He nailed it and should have gotten the Oscar for it. RIP.
As sad as this movie may be, I can’t help watching people’s reactions to it. Of course I tear up every time but it’s such a great movie that I can’t help myself.

It's my new addiction.
Stephen King is the GOAT of horror. When he writes drama he writes some of the most beautiful and agonizing drama ever. Stand By Me, Delores Claiborne, Shawshank Redemption, Misery (maybe considered horror) are the most famous examples of his writing. His ability to capture humanity at it's best and worst is so special. When I read this book for the first time I bawled my eyes out. Every single time I see this movie I bawl too. I'm glad you reacted to this. RIP Michael Clark Duncan.

Every single one of these is a masterpiece. Steven does have a “magical negro problem” but fuck it his books are so revolutionary, humane , and perceptive that the only nitpick is “ew he likes black people” Read “It” and definitely react to the movies and the tv movies.

One of the best movies I've ever seen. I've watched it several times and even knowing what happens, I end up crying for John Coffey. RIP, Mr. Duncan!
If someone had told me 5 years ago, I would cry over a field mouse I wouldn't have believed them. Never knew this movie was as impactful as it was till I watched this movie. Love the karma that came to Percy, going from frankly a sadistic guard to a harmless mental hospital patient was the best thing that could've happened to that character. He deserved everything that happened to him for his cruel and callous nature.
As you grow older, Kabir, you'll understand more & more. As the years roll on, we do indeed have to experience our loved ones passing on and it never gets any easier.....ever ever EVER.

Emotions run high in this well acted movie. We all wanted John Coffey to not be executed but he was ready to die. Remember he said he was tired of everybody hurting each other because his brain was bombarded by the images and the proof that he didn’t kill those girls was not able to be proven. John Coffey was one of the best character portrayals ever.
It just breaks my heart. It also teaches very powerful life lessons so I think everyone should see it just once. Michael Clark Duncan died way to young and he and Tom should have won Oscars for this movie. They should give Michael an Oscar posthumously. 😢

Tom Hanks was getting the AFI lifetime achievement award, and MDC was a guest. His speech was simple but powerful. "I just want to say, Thank you, Boss"
I saw this in theater when it came out. I sobbed so much, I had to wait till everyone left. I've probably seen it 100 times since and I still cry every time! Michael Clarke Duncan was a master performer.
Great reaction! One of the best movies ever made. If it makes you feel a tiny bit better, I truly believe John WANTED to die and in the end he got what he wanted.
I suspect John was very, very, VERY old. Just a breath of his power made a mouse live for decades. Mice live 1-2 years normally.
He has scars he doesn’t even remember how he got. I suspect at the very least he lived through slavery. And he is also clearly an empath who feels the pain of others.
Imagine feeling the pain of everyone near you AND being practically immortal. I think most of us would tap out at some point.
I’ve seen the movie before, but never considered John Coffee being older than represented in the movie. That brings a new perspective to the character.
I'm not sure where I'd heard it.. But John was supposed to be around 400 years old at the time..

This movie made me bawl the first time I saw it; in theaters after reading the original book; and to this day, it still has the same effect. I cannot watch it without crying. One of Steven King's BEST stories he's ever written, and one of my absolute favs.

The best part is that the focus of the movie isn't the supernatural part. The main subject is his innocence and selflessness. Its got like 45 seconds of CGi and uses it perfectly.
Can you imagine the abuse Percy would have inflicted upon the vulnerable patients at Briar Ridge if he’d gone to work there? Ugh, it was already a lot happening in those times & he would have been the worst of them all from what we’d seen of him already.

It's one of those movies which you never think you'll watch again, but you do, because it's beautiful in a really sad way.
The Green Mile was filmed in Nashville at the old State Penitentiary. A lot of the guys I worked with at the Sherriff's Office were hired to play inmates. It's truly a great film!

I love how everyone says they would set him free but John is too kind of person to let others suffer because of him. He mostly likely would have turned himself in and take all the blame. As sad as John story is its a message and statement about mankind. He can feel all the pain we cause to each other and its too unbearable. John is one that is taking all this pain but reality is we all suffer by not being kind and empathic to each other. Us humans were the real monsters in this story.
One of the best films adapted from the writing of Stephen King. Shawshank Redemption is another, but there are many more. Thanks for the reaction!

About a month ago, I found a "Double-Feature" DVD in the $5 bin at Walmart that had "Shawshank and Grren Mile.......
Michael Clarke Duncan and David Morse who played "Brutal" are both the same height (around 6"5"). It was great special effects that made Coffey seem like a giant.
MCD walked on what they called an apple box to make him look taller, notice he was never shown head to toe next to anybody.
Camera angles. Not special effects.

First time I saw this movie I cried for hours afterwards. Its so overwhelming and beautiful and heartbreaking all at once.

I have never heard anyone else mention A.I. and how sad it was! That one BROKE ME and is a very hard watch for anyone who has lost their mother. The Green Mile, in my opinion, is one of the best movies ever made. The acting in this could not have been any better on anyone's part! A special hats off to the actors in all films who do such a fantastic job making us hate them!

This is definitely what I feel like is one of the greatest movies ever. It's not one to be watched too regularly but definitely deserves to be watched time and time again, esp if it's being introduced to someone else.
This film shattered me when I saw it in about 2000. I never watched it again in any form until these reactions came along. Now I know how I felt is how other people feel. Thank you for sharing how you felt experiencing it.
While Stephen King rightfully gets credit for this amazing story, I think a lot of people over look how great Frank Darabont is as a Director. This movie is up there with another one he directed in Shawshank Redemption. People universally also praise how good the first season of The Walking Dead is and how it went to crap after he left as the showrunner. No matter how many times I see this movie, it makes me tear up and cry. PS. RIP Michael Clarke Duncan!

Another side of Michael Clark Duncan is hilarious in “Armageddon” with Bruce Willis in late 90s. Must see, doesn’t disappoint. Love your reactions! I was so excited when I received notification of you watching this
Your edit was brilliant. So much to put in and you got it. The close up perspective was especially good. The casting was perfect and to see the actors performance up close shows how they committed to their roles. I’ve read that the emotional response of the guards during John’s execution was real; they all felt that sorrow.
About Michael Clarke Duncan. He was a body guard to Will Smith and Notorious BIG. He was also a gym rat. The director didn’t want him to lift during filming because people in the 30’s weren’t ripped like that. But apparently he slipped off for an afternoon and when he got back his biceps were bulging so everyone knew where he’s been. His sense of humor was as big as he was. He spoke about how during the filming of John healing Paul how easily he was able to pin Tom Hanks’ arm to his side. He said “Tom needs to lift something heavier than his Oscars a few times.”
Amazing movie. Definitely a tear jerker. Now you owe it to yourself to lighten the mood with a comedy and watch Michael Clarke Duncan in Talladega Nights

You are not alone in saying that you will never watch this movie again. It is one of the best movies ever made. As many times as I have seen this movie, I can never watch it without bawling my eyes out. Great reaction as always.
"I sure wish I could have met you guys somewheres else". That line from Del gets me every time because it speaks about the redemption that every person can have under the right circumstances.
One thing I picked up on with him being willing to die and taking on the hatred of the parents for killing the girls is that he didn't want the parents to realise that they took the killer into their home and exposed the girls to him. It took the guilt away from them and left them a small sense of justice.
A lot of people don't think about this, but this was during the Great Depression. So, work was almost impossible to come by, and you took any job you could get. The common man couldn't choose a job. This all makes it even harder for the other men on The Block. They don't WANT to execute prisoners: they HAVE to. They can't afford to fire Percy or piss him off because as he said "try it. You'll be on the bread lines before the week is up" (bread lines were literal Depression-era lines people had to stand in for hours and hours, just to MAYBE eat). Unlike them, Percy has choices: he could get any job even during the Depression, but he WANTS to stay there, for lower pay, because he's a sadistic fuck. That's why Paul's standing up to Percy threatening to have Brutal fired, meant so much. He was willing to go hungry (and possibly starve) just to stand for what was right.
Although Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP), deservedly get most of the mentions for this movie, I just wanted to give props to Doug Hutchison, who played Percy. He doesn't get mentioned often but he really does his job in making you hate his character. Percy is with out a doubt one of the most hated characters there is in my opinion.
RIP Michael Clark Duncan, he was such a great actor, and he will be missed.

Doug Hutchison (Percy) did a pretty good acting job. Everyone hated him. Glad you did the reaction to this one. Have you watched "Saving Private Ryan" or "Forest Gump". A lot of the same actors are in a lot of Hanks movies.
Intresting fact, the Tennesse location of this movie, was an actual prison in the Old Tennessee Prison in Nashville, TN. It was damaged in a tornado outbreak in 2020. Good news, though, it's planned on getting rebuild!

I was a prison guard in Florida about the time this movie came out and we had some guards that behaved just like percy and we actually started nickname'n Percy's. Hateful, cowardly and weak, thing is, they behave with fake bravado because they are scared shitless. I absolutely loved the movie anddd.... I've never watched it again...
I would love to see you react to a classic “chick flick” like “Steel Magnolias” or “The Color Purple”. Two awesome movies in my opinion. Another good just classic movie that may be more to your liking is “Scent Of A Woman”. I love your movie reactions! Keep them coming! 👏👏👏

It's been a while since I've read the book but I believe Del commented a arson that also killed 4 ppl I believe. The book came out in 6 smaller books, it's a awesome book if you are a reader you should really check it out it's so good.
I had to look it up.
“Convicted for raping and murdering a young girl, and then involuntarily setting fire to the adjacent building (leading to the deaths of six more people), Delacroix shows no sign of cruelty by the time he reaches E block. Instead, he appears to be a fearful old man, terrified of the cruel Percy Wetmore.”
He was in the process of burning the young girl’s body when the fire spread and killed 6 people.
The two saddest parts to me were when John told them he wanted to die and watching the men cry as they were killing him. This is the most riveting, heart wrenching movies.
Michael Clarke Duncun deserved and award for this. Literally played and angel on earth in the most humane way.
Actor who played percy really made you hate his character with your whole soul.
Movie took a left turn after an hour in and made you cry or had you in your feelings for 2 full hours and have fully recovered since
What dreams may come with Robin Williams will definitely make you cry.
I saw this when I was 13 years old and I was just trying to process it all. The second time I watched it (a month later) I bawled like an infant. Still makes me choke up and yell at the screen images of Percy and Wild Bill getting served an icy dish of karma.
As for the infection, it is a raging urinary tract infection (UTI). I have had a UTI on two occasions, one of which made it burn to urinate as if my urethra was on fire. If it had been worse, I probably would have been just like Paul (Hanks) was in the movie, as my moderate one was painful enough.

7. Goof: Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream. I know it' just for the movie because of the length of the execution scene.
8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but
was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill.
9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of playing Percy.👌
10. A little fun fact: Toot Toot the trustee is played by Harry Dean Stanton.(RIP) The other guards' names are Harry Terwilliger/Jeffery DeMunn
and Dean Stanton/Barry Pepper.
11. IRL both David Morse and James Cromwell are about the same height as Michael Clark Duncan (RIP). They used planks, a small bed and smaller chair along with trick photography to make John taller.
12 The scene where John takes Mr. Jingles for safe keeping before Del's execution, they used a real mouse, and it pooped on Paul's shoulder and he brushed it off.
13. Now we know what the "day old is fine" dry toast is for.

Loved your reaction to The Green Mile. So genuine. Glad to see somebody enjoying it as much as I. Most of those who watched it loved it as well. I know you felt bad because John Coffey died but you have to remember that he wanted to die! Whatever power he had, also gave him the ability or the curse, to feel what other people felt. He could feel or sense the emotions of others. He felt that Wild Bill was "a bad man" and he felt the emotions of the people that came to watch his execution and he could feel that they "hated" him even though he was innocent. He said he was tired of feeling all the hate and "ugliness" in the world and wanted to "be done with it". Tragic and certainly sad but I understood why John felt that way. On a lighter note, I was cracking up at how angry you were getting with Percy 😂. He was definitely the antagonist and a certified jerk! Keep up the good work. 👍🏾👍🏾
I saw this in the theaters when it came out and there wasn't a dry eye in the entire place.. NO ONE expected the twists and turns.

This movie is absolutely heart-wrenching; there is humor and horror and a strange beauty. I'll never watch it fully again but I do enjoy watching reactors view it and share in the pathos.

the only way that i've been able to watch The Green Mile again, is with reactors. an amazing film and a well done 1st watch.
This has got to be one of my favorite movies and the book of course is even more incredible.
Stephen King is an incredible writer. Another one of his movies that’s a must watch is Thinner, incredible movie as well.
We watched this movie, dead man walking and Mississippi burning - when we were learning, in primary school in Denmark, about the death penalty, racism and apartheid. These were really hard to watch, but honestly some you should watch at least once. I’ve seen this one many times and I always cry - even in the beginning, bc I know why Paul is crying. Btw the book is really great as well.
2 of my all time favorites are Shawshank & the Green Mile. Both are from the itty bitty, normal-ish portion of S King's great big brilliant brain.

I heard once that when Michael Clarke Duncan met his fans, the most common question he would get asked was if they could give him a hug.
What a film this is. Brings out tears everytime.
And Percy doesn’t need therapy, because of who he is no one has ever laid hands on him. He needs a good beating!

I feel the same way about Schindler's List. An important film, and it moved me deeply, but I don't think I could handle watching it again. Even years later, I still get emotional thinking about it.

I definitely agree with you on that movie. In general movies don't stay with me once I'm done watching them but Schindler's List is an exception. I've only seen parts of it and I don't know if I have it in me to watch the whole entire film. One particular scene almost gave me a panic attack & it was the one with the Rabbi on his knees. If you know, you know. I'm the type of person to act when I see something bad happening & that scene trigger something in me and it had me on the verge of hyperventilating. I literally cried out "Please! Somebody do something!"

this movie is soo sad yet soo beautiful all at once, I love how the way they implemented the concept of this movie with such an outstanding method.

fun fact there actually was a mouseville, it was part of a carnival settlement that became a town in Florida. Most traveling carnivals would winter over in the town they had little sections of the town that would hold various things for entertainment that allowed the carnies to practice and come up with new attractions.
Of course today DisneyWorld is often called mouseville by the locals.

Amazing movie! Years after production it still has such a strong impact! The book was difficult to read. I’ve seen it maybe only 3 x bc of the tears.. You cry so hard that it’s like a sinus infection afterwards !! 😢❤
Lot's of people say they will never watch the movie again. Some come around and do watch it again, only years later. It is just that kind of movie that can hit people hard.
When you know what John can do, him crying "I tried to take it back but it was too late" really gets you. It gets me. I admit I cry quite a bit at movies, shows and games with good direction and writing but this movie...this movie hits me the hardest. I never read the book and I don't know if I can personally. Everything about this story was done so close to perfect as it can be. It's...hard to get through some of it but they do give us so much with it. This is my first video I've seen of yours and surprised I found in in less than 24hrs of upload but I think imma keep going and look at the backlog you're another amazing reactor from what I've seen in this

The Book is set in 1932..... However, the Director wanted to use the film clip from "Top Hat" which did not come out until 1935...... So they made a minor alteration....
I forgot Gary Sinese was in this. So good to see, and also makes me think you need to do Apollo 13. Stellar movie.

The actor who played Percy Whetmore did a fantastic job. We were supposed to dislike Percy and the actor did such a good job that I despised the character of Percy more than any other movie character.
The actor who played Wild Bill was in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, .Missouri"..anothet great film.
Loved the book. Loved the movie.
I get just a little teary eyed during this movie but for the most part it doesn't affect me as much as some other movies. In this movie Wild Billy be cracking me up, especially when he spits that moon pie in the guard's face and when he makes Percy piss his pants. Now a movie where I can't stop the water works is The Color Purple. During that movie it's almost like my tear ducts have malfunctioned like a dam with a crack in it. I don't be boo hooing or anything but man I can't stop the tears from flowing. This has only happened as I have gotten older. Anything now and the tears start to flow and it doesn't take hardly anything at all. Stuff happens to you when you get older that you can't make any sense of.

This was written as a series of novelettes. They were excellent, and this was a great adaptation.
