  • I made a foolish purchase of an E46 330xi. This BMW was AWD and was pretty well equipped, but had some delayed maintenance. After taking care of it, I barely made a profit. The experience driving across the country was my "profit" :)

What a steal for one of the best cars on the road ,with a little mechanical ability and cheap aftermarket parts you can keep it going for a very long time,as a retired bmw tech who owns 3 e46 I would know.

Yep! I am always surprised how much BMW repair content there is. I have now worked on M20, M52, M54, N52, and N55 using TH-cam video walkthroughs!

I bought my son a 2003 330xi with 126k, 2 years ago... $3300. I knew what I was getting as I checked it out first... been absolutely great car.. yes I did a coolant tank too (didn't explode though), CV axles, control arm bushing... over 2 years spend about $2500 on maint repairs... they are strong engines and safe cars no regrets

You could say that again! A BMW is meant to be cherished by their owner not as a flip. Well, you live and you learn!

I’m picking up a 6 speed manual 2004 330xi with 200k, all new cooling system, 3k, anything to look for?

Awesome, that will be great fun! Cooling systems are notorious for being faulty due to being made of plastic. Other things to look out for are oil leaks (OFHG, VCG, OPG), suspension bushing wear, rear subframe cracking, VANOS solenoid, and the DISA valve, all rubber hoses under the hood, and delamination of the headliner with the pillars on the interior are what I generally look for on E46s
