Monaca. She‘s a good villain imo and I will not go on about how the writing team dealt with her after UDG because I will be here all day. She did such horrible things, nothing can excuse that but she’s also a kid and I believe she deserves a chance at a better life like all the other warriors. But I also want her to just be an evil bastard lmao.
I feel like Kokichi should have had more moments with Kaito, they never really talked a lot to each other besides in the trials and I feel like if they did interact more then Kokichi's death would have more meaning.
yeah! i feel like they’d be good friends until chapter 4 and 5, and then kaito would know the feeling of betrayal, which would give him awesome character progression in his final trial
I personally love Kaito. He’s a comfort character for me, and he’s just so funny. I totally see where everyone’s coming from. You, the lovers, and the haters. Great video, I love the sprites
@@yaban360 Kokichi got cucked because he's not the MC, why Kaito had to ruin Kokichi's plan? When even fucking Shuichi was on board with it? It's true about that. But, the fact he cooperated with his enemy to save everyone from the Killing Game made my respect rise from what was initially a character that was Ok but still pissed me off a little.
@@yaban360 If you want to blame someone, then I'd say Shuichi fucked up. Kaito was going according to Kokichi's plan, then came Shuichi etc. But anyway, why be so nervous? It's just fictional story after all, nobody really died so there's no reason to get upset, really.
As someone who has Kaito as their second fav character, I completely get your perspective. As much as I love this man and think he’s the best kind of friend to have, I can see why people would hate him: to an extent, he can be overbearing or a bit too confident with himself. But I actually find those aspects kinda charming which is probably why I hold him to highly; despite that he’s loyal to Shuichi and Maki and his actions in Chapter 5 were kinda respectable. Also, his death served as a final middle finger to Monokuma which I find just so satisfying to think about.
I had an inverse reaction with Kaito. At first I liked him because of how he helps Shuichi & Maki to come out of their shells among other things. But now, is one of my least favorite characters, I don’t actually hate him. But after realizing how much his positivity is toxic and how he dismisses Ryoma’s depression as “being an idiot” it really put him in a really different light for me
I somewhat agree about how it's a tad bit annoying to see everyone treating Kaito as some selfless hero in Chap 5, and completely brushing Kokichi's sacrifice under the rug. Though, I don't have too much of a problem with that. I think it was a better writing choice to set Kokichi's sacrifice to the side, because otherwise (imo) it'd feel as if they were shoving him sacrifice in your face. See, I agree that the other students should've at least acknowledged Kokichi's sacrifice afterwards, but I think having some characters still dislike him, such as Himiko, makes it feels more realistic, and not all in your face like, "Kokichi sacrificed his life!! Do you like him now? He sacrificed himself!" I also think they did a swell job of making it a big deal for his character without actually making that big of a deal out of it, you know? No one mourned over his death, no one seemed to really care he was dead, and his sacrifice was hardly brought up anytime later.
As someone who loves both Kaito and Kokichi, I fully respect your opinion! Honestly I was neutral with Kaito for a while at the start of my playthrough, he really grew on me once he started hanging out with Shuichi, who lost someone he deeply cared about, and helping Maki accept who she is as a person. I do have to agree that Kokichi was sadly pushed aside at the end of class trial 5, and all of the focus was on Kaito, but regardless, I think he is a great character in my own opinion.
I love your character sprite LaiLai! And personally Kaito is one of my favourite characters from V3 but he does have moments where he can be really annoying like Kokichi (who I also like).
@@thelivingliver6715 Exactly! I think truly loving someone/a fictional character (whether crushing on them or you just think they're neat) is knowing they have flaws and that it's okay! I hate when people absolutely REFUSE to acknowledge a character they love has flaws... So annoying...
I'm kinda neutral on katio. I know I dislike him in trial 4 due to his unwillingness to see logic in the case. Face it, yes feeling are important but if the whole class had sided with him on that fact, they'd all died. Guess some of that hate went away for trial 5
I agree fully on you. I couldn't stand him on Class Trial 4. And I hate I was agreeing with Kokichi in that trial, because he was being an asshole in that chapter.
As someone who really liked Kaito from the get-go (I _always_ like the 'bro' characters), I agree with the points you made. I think it's very obvious he was one of the 'writer's pets', and he was also very _very_ annoying in the 4th class trial. But Kaito became one of my absolute favourites in chapter 5, when he faced his previous mistakes head-on, apologising to Shuichi for being jealous due to his delusions about himself and thus growing as a character. Kaito saw his mistakes and improved as a person, unlike some other 'bro' characters I like (coUGh cOuGh _kazuichi_ ) Characters like Kokichi or Maki, while they may have received less spotlight in game, were more obviously complex than Kaito, whose complexity was right under our noses and was still relatively overlooked despite receiving lots of screen time. But when you start to look a little deeper, Kaito's moral complexity becomes clear. And that's why I love Kaito. Oh and also a similar change in opinion for me happened with Hiyoko: I hated her because she was unnecessarily mean the whole game, but as I found out more and more about her backstory and stuff I just couldn't anymore. Now I think it's sad that she died before her character development could finish, because her character was really interesting. Anyways thank you for listening to my ted talk
Kaito was a good leader but even so, there are many downfalls to him being good and trusted in the killing game. In order to end something like that, you cannot think simple mindedly. Especially when learning that the outside world is in ruins and being watched. For Kokichi to notice all of that whilst distrusting those around him takes effort. Which is why I love the dynamic between those two, not just cuz of their rivalry and differences. But how they are potrayed to be true leaders by making the most difficult and outrageous decisions. Despite Kaito getting all the credit in the end.
I actually loved both Kaito and Kokichi when I first started watching the game, all the way to the end. Though I will be a bit honest and say I think I was a bit more sad that Kokichi died at first than Kaito, but now it equal sadness(though at least back then I definitely was happy that Kaito stick it up to Monokuma by not dying by his execution, definitely a “HA TAKE THAT!” Moment). Both were very good duo for Shuichi in the game to have as a support and foil.
I have a Kaito friend. He calls me weak and a creep. But he helped me to get a job, gain more confidence and to get over my burnout. He invites me a lot to have a drink and sometimes even to have dinner with him and his girlfriend. He's mean and loud, but he's one of my dearest friends. I trust him with everything and he treats that trust right. He's the big brother I never had
i had that same pfp for so long i love it kaito was one of my favorites from V3 but he pissed me off with his constant belief. kokichi was great and i love him because he showed everyone that belief can't solve everything. kokichi was such a great antag because he fought against kaito/maki and shuichi at the same time. i have mixed feelings on Nagito from the second game. At first I loved him and he was probably my third favorite of all time. But after I talked to people I realized how much he got shoved into my face. got so tired of him that he dropped down from S tier to bottom of A tier. still like him ofc but he makes me feel sick inside when i look at him so yeah
it’s funny, I started out loving Kaito to death, defending him in my mind and against others... and then I started watching a bunch of lets plays... and with every replay of ch 4 trial and ch 5 beginning, I started hating kaito more and more. his pure hypocrisy and the way it hurt when he threw shuichi and by extention, the player away, after being here for us for so long, hurt, and infuriated me so much. I’m kinda neutral on him now, mainly because of the end of the trial 5... but yeah, he just rubbed me the wrong way at some point. he really calls out kokichi for lying, meanwhile -his FTEs are a bunch of made up hero stories -he literally falsified documents to reach his dream earlier -his words are hollow and empty when it counts... right mr “if I get “betrayed”, it’s my fault for believing in the wrong person!” 😒 we sure saw that when you hurt shuichi after he went against your idiotic antics... buuut I’m drifting off. either way, I kinda like kaito sometimes, but get really agitated by him too...
Yes. Seriously trial four with him irked me. He's calling out kokichi for lying and yet he's out here doing the same thing! Granted, his lies aren't going out of their way to hurt others but it's still a lie. Again, I've stated in my own comment: his refusal to listen to logic! Believe in your friends but ignoring the idea that they could do something as bad as murder is dumb. Again, if he had convinced everyone to ignore kokichi into an extent shuichi, then they all would have died!
Omg the spritesssss they look so good‼️‼️ also, awesome video! I totally agree- I nearly have the same opinions! But we can all agree, kaitos jacket is so swaggy
Ah... I'll say this I get why people like him, but I just can't. I won't write an essay, but I think I dislike him more every time I get through the game. Also love the sprites and gl with classes!!
I used to bully kaito just because of his hair LMAO- I've only started liking kaito after a few weeks of entering the dr fandom and after i watched some vids about him, and then i started liking him more after i dig into his character more and realised that i also have interests of space and stars and stuff like that and- oh wait now i kin him
Kaito is my favorite V3 character and Kokichi is also one of my favorites, so seeing someone else who likes Kokichi not hating on Kaito (Or at least changing their views about the character to a more positive one) is a breath of fresh air for me, because I have seen so many Kokichi fans hate on Kaito and vice versa lately...
my honest opinion on kaito is he is my least favourite character, but it's not just because i'm a kokichi kin and love kokichi to death, it's due to many different factors. one, being his toxic masculinity, which i am avid about hating and fighting against. he punches shuichi for showing emotion, and the amount of times he's told people to "be a man", gets seriously on my nerves due to that showing a message to all men being like "you cannot cry, you have to be strong and be a man." also, he has shown slight misogyny, due to him saying that he doesn't think that women are fit to carry weapons. like that just got on my nerves, and i'm sure it got on maki's too. also, kaito used a slur, which translates in english to the f slur. so that also got on my nerves. they really toned down his character in the english dub, which i don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, due to how is character was originally in the japanese version. also, he's mentioned that ryoma is a sissy for being depressed, also shining on his toxic masculinity. another thing, he is far too violent and is way too loud. he gets unnecessarily mad, and resorts to violence at every situation. he hit kokichi, which was completely uncalled for, he hit shuichi, which also was completely uncalled for. he is far too opinionated, and believes he's right in every situation. he refuses to look at facts, and he's honestly, stupid. me, i don't have good opinions on any stupid characters, and he's just- oh god. he doesn't believe in any evidence, and bases his thinking on just hunches, when they are in a killing game, and that's the last thing to be basing your evidence of. he could've gotten them all killed if everyone listened to what he had to say. he's also blindly optimistic, and believes that everything's going to be okay, even though almost all of them ended up dying in that killing game. i hate it when characters only think that they're right. he's a blatent narcissist in his opinions. and he doesn't listen to what other people think. like when shuichi blamed gonta in the 4th trial, cause it was impossible that anybody, but him, could've committed the murder, he held his little grudge on him for finding the truth and keeping them all from dying. kaito has no right to be angry at this??? i could right much more but i don't wanna get too deep into this. i have a whole essay dedicated to him if anybody wants the link lol.
I was actually kind of the opposite. I really loved Kaito like so much! He is my third favorite from V3 (after Himiko and Kaede) so because of that and few other reasons I despised Kokichi. Though now, after some time in the Fandom I started to like the gremlin dude! He's now on B teir for me. (which is really something if you've seen my list. There are a lot of characters in C and D and not enough in B and A. There's only like four characters is S lol)
Seeing as no one's gonna bring it up, I'll bite the bullet. Kaito Momota is indefensibly homophobic, toxic, and misogynistic but that's okay. Throughout the game Momota harasses Shinguji (before chapter 3 shit happens) about how un-masculine he is, he does the same to Ouma, and he does the same to Saihara, also he called Ouma the f slur in Japanese as we of the lgbt community are familiar with it, and while some queer people don't mind the term being used on them, it's ultimately the same as slut-shaming a woman or calling her a b-word or w-word, and yes some women are fine being called sluts but does that make it okay to call all women that? No. My next point is Harukawa. He constantly white knights her and acts chivalrous. Now chivalry is evil to its core point being that it is that men should protect women because they are weaker, not be nice to women in general, it's to be nice to women because they're weaker--that is chivalry. Now where does he act misogynistic and such? Well throughout chapter 3, he comments that women shouldn't use guns and that women shouldn't be violent, and while the sentiment is nice, he specifically said women/girls, after all, he doesn't follow the same rule he set on women, we see this in him slugging Saihara and chasing after Ouma to attack him, which is the same argument irl misogynists make. Now toxicity wise, we've all seen him be toxic, don't deny it, but there's a specific circumstance that he takes part in constantly, toxic masculinity. A man should be strong, a man should be buff, a man should be the leader, and a man should protect weak women. Oh and never show emotions. All of these things he presented in-game, his workout sessions, getting angry at Saihara for crying that Akamatsu died, his misogynism towards Harukawa, he epitomizes this phenomenon. And while he is all of these things, I can say for sure that he is a good person. HAhah... I know it's weird to call him a good person after dissing him so much, but people have flaws, characters have flaws. Ouma was batshit, Komaeda was ready to commit suicide for hope, and Togami was a pretentious prick. That doesn't make them necessarily bad people, right? And does that make me like them less? No. in fact it makes their character more interesting and endearing because that's what a person is, people aren't black and white, they grow, they change and most importantly, they have flaws. (Such judgment does not extend to Shinguji's incest) We should be aware and acknowledge that these characters are problematic (and trust me, every DR character is), that's the whole reason I made this post since most people would deny these things about Momota, and all the same, they would deny that Ouma did some horrible things, that Komaeda almost murdered everyone, or that Togami acts like a prick. But, there is a difference between Momota and the others. Now to tear into Momota's writing more. Momota ultimately never gets called out for his actions, he's always seen as the morally correct or the person who has done nothing wrong, and I detest that. Every character in DR was called out for their problematic behavior except Momota. Want examples? Sure. Saionji's actions toward Tsumiki are never treated as good, Yamada's existence is scrutinized by the cast from the moment we first talk to him, Yonaga gets constantly called out by the non-council members. Even the protagonists aren't free from scrutiny from the game, Saihara gets his world rocked by Momota since he was being too much of a coward, Komaru Naegi is constantly berated by Fukawa when she deprecates herself, and Akamatsu is called out by Ouma during the escape run in the boiler room for giving way too many hope speeches. And I don't think it's necessary to talk about the main troublemakers, right? Now, do you see? Momota's actions are never questioned (the most it has been was in Gokuhara's trial but even then it was about his stubborn trust), and I find that deplorable that he's free from the game's judgment I think it's okay for characters to have flaws and make bad comments, but we need to remember that we need to call out and acknowledge that behavior instead of denying it, that's my ultimate gripe about Momota, But do I hate him? No. Most DR characters can be defended, the only ones that can't be are Hanamura and Towa for hopefully obvious reasons. I still dislike him but I appreciate his character and despise it's delivery in the game, so yeah, problematic is cool as long as it's called out.
I never had a problem with the killer for killing characters I like but I get why a lot of people do it's cool you maneged to get past that and judge him more fairly I also agree how sad it is that no one seemed to care for kokichi's sacrefise but i feel that a lot in V3 that no one cared for those who died with a few exceptions
@@LaiLaiVibes honestly i liked mikan less as well after the trail i was mad that two of my faverite characters had to die for no reason and it doen't help that mikan was already one of my less liked characters so i agree with mikan
@@zuriiiiiiiiiiiiiii as someone who really likes Kokichi, your valid for your opinion. I can honestly agree with you. It’s not realistic but it’s honestly what makes me like him! It’s fine if you are not fond of him.
i have mixed feelings for kaito tbh. Like his toxic masculinity coming to play where he chooses violence first and punches shuichi for crying and punching kokichi because of him acting weird. And also the fact that well yes he helped out in the 5th trial, but at the end he made it sound like kokichi’s dying message was a lie, which only kiibo knew it probably wasnt, even though Kokichi literally confessed his true feelings to kaito about how he really feels about the games and how he really wanted the games to end, while kokichi is having a full on mental breakdown as he’s slowly dying, and I feel like if Kaito wouldn’t have said “but maybe that was a lie” (him knowing damn well it wasn’t) I feel like kokichi would have been appreciated by the others for trying to help them at least by sacrificing his life. But I have to admit, He’s a good character when it comes to supporting shuichi and I feel like that really helped Shuichi improve, but Kaito’s violence is still unnecessary. And not to mention, idk if this counts or not but in the japanese version, Kaito calls Kiyo a slur, and basically shamed ryoma for being depressed and calling him a weak sissy. And basically was like “dude girls arent meant for fighting” when referring to maki, and basically he’s a huge mess in the japanese, but as I said idk if that counts, but thats part of his character in a way, but not in english dub. So yeah, I dont like him for the most part but like you said as well I wouldnt say I hate him, but he isnt one of the characters I really like or favorite.
honestly i know a lot of people hate him for it but consider kaito’s occasional sexist and homophobic words a way of being in denial of the fact that hes totally gay for shuichi at least thats my false hope also i love your new persona
Thought I might put in my opinion Going in, I had a different view when seeing the 5th trial. Personally, I love kaito way more than Kokichi, just because of personal preference. For a long while I saw kokochi as this sort of “eh” character before I watched v3 in it’s entirety. However, the same could be said for kaito as I didn’t really acknowledge him until I saw the whole story and the emotions that came with it. I do see Kokichi as a very interesting character though there are many characters who I favor more than him. It’s perfectly valid to like who you like and this was a great video explaining your thoughts.
I honestly understand where you're coming from. I finished V3 loving both Kaito and Kokichi but I can understand why you might start to hold a grudge against him for the reasons you stated. I personally relate to Kaito a lot more than Kokichi *proceeds to project onto Kaito to hell and back*, but Kokichi was my favorite V3 character for a long time. Now I'd say Kaito is _slightly_ above Kokichi for me. Also who can forget Saioumota supremacy Also this was not mentioned in the video, but sometimes when I bring up that Kaito is my favorite character people will get on me like "oh he was so homophobic in the Japanese version of the game" but 1. I believe the term they're referring to was the Chapter 3 reveal which had a lot of other things going on in addition to the mask thing and I think with how blunt and abrasive Kaito is, he would definitely say something rude in reaction to one of the many things going on and 2. keep in mind that he was raised by his grandparents and thus likely grew up in a conservative environment. In the hypothetical that he was homophobic, I think he has strong enough morals and trust in science where he could learn to be accepting fairly quickly. Also 3. People love characters who have done worse like Miu (who tried to kill with no additional motive other than being trapped) and Kokichi (who was part of the reason Miu and Gonta both died). I mean I love them both too but it seems kinda hypocritical to say "homophobia which can be easily educated and fixed is a worse crime than murder, the permanent loss of a life" Also this is not a comment on LaiLai since they literally didn't mention it at all in their video, it's just something I hear about a lot and wanted to mention ^^ I found LaiLai from Blaze's channel and I'm really liking what I've seen so far. We don't agree on everything, but no one does and it's good to hear a second opinion. They also seem really respectful on a variety of issues: I saw the DanganMandy video and I was unaware of the issue which I thought was really helpful to know about. So yeah you might see me on other videos too and sorry I tend to leave giant comments lol
I honestly used to hate him not because of my love for Kokichi, but because just felt like he displayed toxic masculinity. Like with Shuichi for instance. (Spoilers) After Kaede died and they all had to watch her literally be hanged and executed, Shuichi was crying. Like a regular person probably would, but what did Kaito do? He hit him and told him to be man. I understand that his heart was in the right place, but it put Kaito off to a bad start for me. I hated him throughout the game, then I went through the game again. I saw how motivating and just overall great he was. What he did for Shuichi was great and really helped his development. He ended up becoming one of my favorites and I now cry double the amount during chapter 5. I still dislike certain parts about him, but it's balanced and he's now a favorite of mine.
Did you know he was crying in the picture where he punched Shuichi in the 1st trial? Just thought to let you know that fact, as it shows he was (SPOILERS FOR OTHERS READING!) greatly impacted by Kaede's death.
@@justagray-ace2787 I did realize that. I just still think that what he said about manning up was uncalled for even if he was feeling the same way. That's just how I see it though!

My only big gripe with Kaito is that they focus so much on him near then end that he overshadowed basically everybody. Like if you described all the characters in the game to someone who has never played the game they would assume that Kaito was the main character without question. Do they me wrong, I think it’s good to focus in on characters but sometimes as we see with Kaito it can come at the cost of others
I really like Kaito’s character but the way he sometimes lashes out does get on my nerves. As a person I dislike him but as a character he’s one of my favourites.
I started the game thinking I'm going to like Kaito beacuse my friend really loves him but instead I saw him slap Shuichi after Kaedes trial (I'm not going to deep into it I don't remember it that well) and now I'm on chapter 2 and Ryomas talking about how he has no will to live and Kaito keeps telling him to stfu and get out of his and the way For the record I'm not like a Ryoma, Kokichi or Shuichi Stan I'm just saying that I strongly dislike him beacuse of what he's done and said so far I really do want to like him but I just can't
He would be an actual good Character if : 1) he wasn't inconsistently written to the point that even the game shits on him 2) he was in a different game
@@mollymolly2667 1) in ch2 kaito acts like a fucking idiot and basically tells shuichi that he should randomly believe in maki WHO IS A SUSPECT for 0 reasons, same for ch4 where he defends gonta for no good reason WHO IS ALSO A SUSPECT and shits on Kokichi who was just telling the truth and was trying to solve the case, Basically it's ok for shuichi to believe in maki for 0 reason but it's not ok for kokichi to frame gonta even tho he actually provides reasons why and it's not ok for shuichi to doubt gonta because........ reasons, he only believes in what he wants to believe in but others ? Worst part is that no one ever even talks to maki about she did, it's like the game was trying to make kaito look cool and badass and always right even though he and his friends got betrayed twice by their friend There's also the fact that he only cared about shuichi being sad but not ryoma and himiko who literally suffer/suffered more, like WTF 2) he works better in a shounen Anime and not life & Death situation, it's obvious why
@@mysmallnoman Ah, okay. I see what you mean. I was just wondering what you meant by, "even the game shits on him" and "he'd be better in a different game" I do agree that his actions and ways of thinking are extremely hypocritical, and it can get really annoying at times, especially when he fails to realize he's in the wrong.

I didn't like them at first because it seemed like they acted a whole lot like other characters in the franchise. (Kokichi=Nagito, and Kaito=Souda) until chapter five. It made them WAY better characters by only a chapter. It fed into their act of lying and telling the truth because neither of them did. And neither of them were the bad guys persay, It was like a coin flip between the truth. None of us are perfect, and these two characters are perfect examples of this. Kokichi is well annoying. And everyone can agree on this one term. All he did was bully and harass other characters. And lie. It made me hate this character because he didn't have anything going for him. Nothing. That is until chapter five when his lies started to disappear and we get this insecure guy who lies for the sake of others. Kaito is also annoying. And i think we can all agree on this as well. Alll he did was pretend to be this one guy and it does bug me a lot. He had this annoying persona of the hero, and it honestly made me think of this character as like a stepping stone to make Shuichi seem better. That is until chapter five when you realize the training scenes (My least favorite scenes of kaito) when he didn't participate, much to my annoyance were not part of his act but part of his sickness. Chapter five was a mess. But it certainly was an amazing chapter filled with lies and the truth. It made me think very highly of D3 even if it isn't my favorite game. And while i didn't like the game very much, chapter five sold it to me as a good ending game. (I assume.)

But anyway, why be so nervous? It's just fictional story after all, nobody really died so there's no reason to get upset, really.
@@natiao3589 *sighs* Thank u, thank u, omg, someone had to say it alredy
Thank you so much!!!
characters who we truly love have their annoying moments. acknowleding those moments but still loving them despite that shows that we love them
@@thelivingliver6715 yes indeed
Kaito saw his mistakes and improved as a person, unlike some other 'bro' characters I like (coUGh cOuGh _kazuichi_ )
Characters like Kokichi or Maki, while they may have received less spotlight in game, were more obviously complex than Kaito, whose complexity was right under our noses and was still relatively overlooked despite receiving lots of screen time.
Anyways thank you for listening to my ted talk
i actually really like the dynamic kokichi and kaito had throughout the whole game
SAAMMMMEEE
Kaito was a good leader but even so, there are many downfalls to him being good and trusted in the killing game. In order to end something like that, you cannot think simple mindedly. Especially when learning that the outside world is in ruins and being watched. For Kokichi to notice all of that whilst distrusting those around him takes effort. Which is why I love the dynamic between those two, not just cuz of their rivalry and differences. But how they are potrayed to be true leaders by making the most difficult and outrageous decisions. Despite Kaito getting all the credit in the end.
My main pet peeve w Momota is how in your face he is and how he basically is dumbed down to "Funnie-himbo-space-man"
He’s also drained down because people think he’s “homophobic”, “transphobic” or any other racist term
I love Kaito a lot
I have a Kaito friend. He calls me weak and a creep. But he helped me to get a job, gain more confidence and to get over my burnout. He invites me a lot to have a drink and sometimes even to have dinner with him and his girlfriend. He's mean and loud, but he's one of my dearest friends. I trust him with everything and he treats that trust right. He's the big brother I never had
kaito cures my depression- kinda- ironic bc i love kokichi alot
i had that same pfp for so long i love it
kaito was one of my favorites from V3 but he pissed me off with his constant belief. kokichi was great and i love him because he showed everyone that belief can't solve everything. kokichi was such a great antag because he fought against kaito/maki and shuichi at the same time.
i have mixed feelings on Nagito from the second game. At first I loved him and he was probably my third favorite of all time. But after I talked to people I realized how much he got shoved into my face. got so tired of him that he dropped down from S tier to bottom of A tier. still like him ofc but he makes me feel sick inside when i look at him so yeah
I really like Kaito. He probably one of my favorite characters. Not in my top three, but still in top tier.
it’s funny, I started out loving Kaito to death, defending him in my mind and against others... and then I started watching a bunch of lets plays... and with every replay of ch 4 trial and ch 5 beginning, I started hating kaito more and more. his pure hypocrisy and the way it hurt when he threw shuichi and by extention, the player away, after being here for us for so long, hurt, and infuriated me so much. I’m kinda neutral on him now, mainly because of the end of the trial 5... but yeah, he just rubbed me the wrong way at some point.
he really calls out kokichi for lying, meanwhile
-his FTEs are a bunch of made up hero stories
-he literally falsified documents to reach his dream earlier
-his words are hollow and empty when it counts... right mr “if I get “betrayed”, it’s my fault for believing in the wrong person!” 😒 we sure saw that when you hurt shuichi after he went against your idiotic antics...
buuut I’m drifting off. either way, I kinda like kaito sometimes, but get really agitated by him too...
Ah... I'll say this
I get why people like him, but I just can't. I won't write an essay, but I think I dislike him more every time I get through the game.
Also love the sprites and gl with classes!!
I used to bully kaito just because of his hair LMAO-
I've only started liking kaito after a few weeks of entering the dr fandom and after i watched some vids about him, and then i started liking him more after i dig into his character more and realised that i also have interests of space and stars and stuff like that and- oh wait now i kin him
"I used to bully kaito just because of his hair LMAO-" BAHAHAHA-! I love this comment! You get a like from me! XD
This video title described my relationship with kaito too
my honest opinion on kaito is he is my least favourite character, but it's not just because i'm a kokichi kin and love kokichi to death, it's due to many different factors.
one, being his toxic masculinity, which i am avid about hating and fighting against. he punches shuichi for showing emotion, and the amount of times he's told people to "be a man", gets seriously on my nerves due to that showing a message to all men being like "you cannot cry, you have to be strong and be a man."
also, he has shown slight misogyny, due to him saying that he doesn't think that women are fit to carry weapons. like that just got on my nerves, and i'm sure it got on maki's too.
also, kaito used a slur, which translates in english to the f slur. so that also got on my nerves. they really toned down his character in the english dub, which i don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, due to how is character was originally in the japanese version.
also, he's mentioned that ryoma is a sissy for being depressed, also shining on his toxic masculinity.
another thing, he is far too violent and is way too loud. he gets unnecessarily mad, and resorts to violence at every situation. he hit kokichi, which was completely uncalled for, he hit shuichi, which also was completely uncalled for. he is far too opinionated, and believes he's right in every situation. he refuses to look at facts, and he's honestly, stupid. me, i don't have good opinions on any stupid characters, and he's just- oh god.
he doesn't believe in any evidence, and bases his thinking on just hunches, when they are in a killing game, and that's the last thing to be basing your evidence of. he could've gotten them all killed if everyone listened to what he had to say. he's also blindly optimistic, and believes that everything's going to be okay, even though almost all of them ended up dying in that killing game.
i hate it when characters only think that they're right. he's a blatent narcissist in his opinions. and he doesn't listen to what other people think. like when shuichi blamed gonta in the 4th trial, cause it was impossible that anybody, but him, could've committed the murder, he held his little grudge on him for finding the truth and keeping them all from dying. kaito has no right to be angry at this???
i could right much more but i don't wanna get too deep into this. i have a whole essay dedicated to him if anybody wants the link lol.
(Such judgment does not extend to Shinguji's incest)
We should be aware and acknowledge that these characters are problematic (and trust me, every DR character is), that's the whole reason I made this post since most people would deny these things about Momota, and all the same, they would deny that Ouma did some horrible things, that Komaeda almost murdered everyone, or that Togami acts like a prick.
Momota's actions are never questioned (the most it has been was in Gokuhara's trial but even then it was about his stubborn trust), and I find that deplorable that he's free from the game's judgment
I think it's okay for characters to have flaws and make bad comments, but we need to remember that we need to call out and acknowledge that behavior instead of denying it, that's my ultimate gripe about Momota,
But do I hate him?
See I usually don’t! Except Kaito and Mikan

KOKICHI IS LOVELY I LOVE HIM AHHHH

i have mixed feelings for kaito tbh.

Thought I might put in my opinion
Going in, I had a different view when seeing the 5th trial.
Tho i feel like kaito should be liked more as a kaito kin he's a nice dude
I honestly understand where you're coming from. I finished V3 loving both Kaito and Kokichi but I can understand why you might start to hold a grudge against him for the reasons you stated. I personally relate to Kaito a lot more than Kokichi *proceeds to project onto Kaito to hell and back*, but Kokichi was my favorite V3 character for a long time. Now I'd say Kaito is _slightly_ above Kokichi for me. Also who can forget Saioumota supremacy
Also this was not mentioned in the video, but sometimes when I bring up that Kaito is my favorite character people will get on me like "oh he was so homophobic in the Japanese version of the game" but
1. I believe the term they're referring to was the Chapter 3 reveal which had a lot of other things going on in addition to the mask thing and I think with how blunt and abrasive Kaito is, he would definitely say something rude in reaction to one of the many things going on and
2. keep in mind that he was raised by his grandparents and thus likely grew up in a conservative environment. In the hypothetical that he was homophobic, I think he has strong enough morals and trust in science where he could learn to be accepting fairly quickly. Also
3. People love characters who have done worse like Miu (who tried to kill with no additional motive other than being trapped) and Kokichi (who was part of the reason Miu and Gonta both died). I mean I love them both too but it seems kinda hypocritical to say "homophobia which can be easily educated and fixed is a worse crime than murder, the permanent loss of a life"
Also this is not a comment on LaiLai since they literally didn't mention it at all in their video, it's just something I hear about a lot and wanted to mention ^^ I found LaiLai from Blaze's channel and I'm really liking what I've seen so far.

(Spoilers)
After Kaede died and they all had to watch her literally be hanged and executed, Shuichi was crying.
Just thought to let you know that fact, as

For the record I'm not like a Ryoma, Kokichi or Shuichi Stan I'm just saying that I strongly dislike him beacuse of what he's done and said so far I really do want to like him but I just can't
He would be an actual good Character if :
1) he wasn't inconsistently written to the point that even the game shits on him
2) he was in a different game
Hello! I'm a bit curious as to what you mean by this, could you elaborate please?
No they have to follow my example EVEN tho THEY HAVE CLUE AND ARE FRAMING A POTENTIAL SUSPECT
THEN in ch5 guess what Happened ? Maki betrays the cast TWICE, yes the person who we believed in for 0 reasons actually betrayed us twice, see how the game shits on his hero-like philosophy ? Worst part is that no one ever even talks to maki about she did, it's like the game was trying to make kaito look cool and badass and always right even though he and his friends got betrayed twice by their friend
There's also the fact that he only cared about shuichi being sad but not ryoma and himiko who literally suffer/suffered more, like WTF
2) he works better in a shounen Anime and not life & Death situation, it's obvious why
@@mollymolly2667 the game ALSO acts like he's in the right because no one calls him out in ch2 or calls out maki in ch5 and they even forgot kokichi's sacrafice, the only time he's showed wrong is ch4 and that's BECAUSE gonta was actually the culprit unlike ch2 maki
I still wish kaeda got to live lol
yes kokichi is best best
Kaede makes me *very* uncomfortable and Kaito is just... Annoying to me. So V3 was hard to get through for me in all honestly.
(I assume.)
