Actually Rocksteady said Origins is canon to the story. In Arkham Knight in the museum, you can find The Electrocutioner's gloves and Black Mask's mask.
Yeah and in the red hood story pack black mask has the EXACT same suit from origins

I really wanna see a Batman game, made with the Arkham engine, that takes place in a NORMAL Gotham. One that's not all destroyed and shit. Something like the Spider-Man games do, where you're just in a normal city with people walking around.
I mean, don't get me wrong, the current Arkham games are fun as hell, and look great. But it'd be nice to play as Batman in a non-destroyed city for a change. In a more 'normal' Batman scenario.

Who's here because it's a free September game for PS+?
I'm just now finishing this game on pc 3 years after the games release and I'm happy to say easily the best super hero game ever made. The performance issues are totally gone leaving a game still beautiful by todays standards, the game of the year edition added something like a few new long side story threads (3 of them were really well done and added got he feel of the story, my favorite moment of the game came from the league of shadows dlc) I bought thus game on a whime because of a sale, had never played it up to this point because of the stigma due to the pc release, but was un-able to set it down for 30 hrs. I havnt had that feeling in a long time and I think what's most admirable about this game is that the whole thing has an epilogue feel to it. You could really tell the team was passionate about this game and want to tie a neat bow on the universe they partook in. Passion isn't seen allot these days in AAA.
I didn't mind the Batmobile's handling. It's loose but there is a sense of control. You just have to let momentum and gravity steer for you sometimes. You gotta know when to hit the gas, and when to let off and let the physics do the work. There's satisfaction in learning how to bring it all together. Suffer through those Riddler challenges, and let them teach you how to tame the beast that is the Batmobile. You'll have a lot more fun with it, once you get a true feel of it's center of gravity.
I feel like the game would’ve been far better had they fit Paul Dini to come back as a writer for the game. He wrote the Batman the animated series as well as Asylum and City
Runs like ass on PC but besides that, this game is awesome. The narrative is great and the gameplay is refined to near perfection, at least from where I am in the game.
I'm pretty happy right about now.

This game is a clear example of why some developers really don't give a shit about PC gamers - like most comments have said stay away from this unless your got a ps4 / Xbone "thank god for steams refund policy"

I think Arkham Asylum was more revolutionary, and Arkham City was a better game in general in comparison to Arkham Knight. I enjoyed Arkham Knight, and liked the exploration into the dichotomy of Batman's morality (very clever), but the AK was a weak villain, the gameplay, although perfecting the combat (so satisfying) didn't have enough new aspects, and although the batmobile was awesome at first I DESPISED the fact that they MADE you use it - it should have been left up to the player. Instead they treated us like kids - hurr durr you must use the batmobile now, go blow up 50 tanks, again and again, rinse and repeat. It was this lazy gameplay mechanic which brought the game down a couple of notches. Also, all the villains were kind of anti-climatic - *spoiler* why the fuck is Deathstroke in a tank? The Arkham games have always fallen short on boss battles, but at least Arkham City gave it a fun shot.
tldr: Arkham Knight, great game, imo not as good as AA or AC, but still fun. The batmobile was done badly, and would be irrelevant if Rocksteady didn't force it upon you in very monotonous, cheap ways.

After some time has passed, and I have been able to coalesce my thoughts on this game, I'd definitely give it a "wait for sale" rating at most. Personally, I was majorly let down by this game, and I'm starting to see a lot of others feel the same way.
The tank battles take up an obnoxious space of the game, and you can tell the entirety of the campaign was built with the Batmobile in mind. So much so, that they decided to cut corners in other places. That's not to say the graphics or environments are sparse, quite the contrary, the way they added little details in the clocktower to make it looked lived-in. (i.e. sticky notes everywhere, stray jackets, half eaten food and dirty plates) In terms of gameplay though?...
Where's my boss fights? What about when a certain someone shows up in place of leading the AK's forces, and goes down with nary more than a stealth tank battle section and a single punch to the face?
Dealing w/ villains felt a lot like how Origins handled it. Go here, save a bank from being robbed, repeat 3 times until Two-Face is caught. Firefly, chase him till his gas tank runs out, then punch him in the gob. Repeat 3 times until Batman finally decides to put a stop to it and rip his damn wings off. Manbat: Tackle him in the air, investigate lab, tackle him in the air two more times, done.
At the end of the day, the Batmobile steals the show, and by the midway point, I started to thank Santa Christ for every area that was Batmobile inaccessible.
I bought this game on PC and it is literally unplayable. How anyone could release a game in this state doesn't make sense. My specs aren't too bad either.

Customers shouldn’t have to avoid pre-ordering AAA title games in case they have been released unfinished or wait months until the GOTY edition is released. The real problem is games shouldn’t be released unfinished like this in the first place.

This game seems like more of a wait for sale than a buy (for me) because while I did enjoy the hell out of the two previous Rocksteady Batman games, I can't justify shelling out another $60 for a game that doesn't really add much beyond a bigger world and the batmobile. Great review as always!

actually origins is considered canon, go into the gcpd and look for the evidence locker, there you can see electrocutioner's gloves. plus in a demo at e3 origins is considered canon by dax. so you can rest easy as it is part of the series, though isn't a important one :p

I know PS4 gets 2 'exclusive' skins and Scarecrow Nightmare Missions but I believe those will most likely be available for purchase at a later date for Xbox and anyone who didn't buy the game new. All new copies of the game receive the Harley Quinn story pack, like the cat woman pack in City.

Is there a big difference or any difference at all in graphical fidelity between the Xbox One and PS4? I decided not to buy the PC version due to the issues it has, but should I pick one console version over another?

Karak, question, should i get Batman Arkham Knight Deluxe edition or Rise of the Tomb Raider?
The issue with the new Tomb Raider games, is that they're pretty linear, and there's way too many "set piece" areas. As in something that happens at a specific point and ends up being more of an interactive cutscene than an actual bit of gameplay. And then nothing will ever be that interesting again outside of story missions. Think Uncharted, but with Lara Croft instead of Nathan Drake. They're nearly identical nowadays. Saying that, the're still fun for a single playthrough. But after that, it's kinda boring. There's no opportunity for anything different to happen. The same things will happen the same way at the same time, every time you play.
Arkham Knight, while not the best game in the world, definitely has a lot more to do. And is more reliant on gameplay rather than interactive cutscenes. You can play through the game multiple times, and do different things each time. Focus more on story one time, focus on side stuff another, focus on just screwing around on yet another one. Each playthrough can be different, unlike Tomb Raider. That's the main reason I go for open world games nowadays. Far Cry, Shadow of Mordor, GTA, Watch Dogs, Batman. All fun games, where most of my most memorable moments have come from free roam non-story related stuff.
Pre-ordered it with the season pass really cheap, I bought and completed the three other games, and I loved it. Sure the themes of the story can get almost painful to listen to with the plastic dialogue exchanges between character and the Arkham Knight's identity is obvious from the start but the game is fun.
Batmobile is relied on way too much and I stopped playing for a few hours during each encounter with the Cobra Tanks. Completed it and I'm actively looking forward to fully beating the game to activate Knightfall Protocol.
Great review Karak! Gonna trade in my old games and get this soon. Some questions though:
1) How is the framerate on PS4? Is it that of the same level as Witcher 3 on PS4?
2) Seeing as I've never played the prequels, do I have to do some reading up on the past titles? You mentioned that the storyline in this game is odd. In what way should I frame my mind to absorb the story in this game? Since you said that it has a comic book (I don't read comics) way of storytelling and that the game has odd pacing.

Everyone does know origins is the reason joker was taken to asylum so in that sense it did happen and it does exist in this story ark.
i played the last ones as a sale years after release and loved them. so im keen as for this. i got bored of witcher 3 so ill probs get this soon. and yeah it is hilarious that no one dies. imagine the local bad guys doctors surgery. there'd be a line out the door and round the block haha that would actually make a funny easter egg lol

I just started this game, and I've consumed a lot of the lore from comics, movies, and the animated series. this is by far the creepiest coolest version of scarecrow I've ever seen.
Would one have to have played the other Arkham games to follow and enjoy this one?

I have the PC version. I got the PS4 version with the limited edition console. This game, so far has the best story, IMO. Because it gives you insight into Batman's psyche. You see the toll his war in Gotham has taken.

For anyone complaining about the 30 FPS lock, it's just a quick edit of the .ini file. It's an easy fix.

With all the hate over at gamespot, i can say the over use of the batmobile is very true but still at 90percent in to the campaign im loving it ( other than a few batmobile boss type battles that are more frustrating than fun )
But still its a heap of fun, if i am to really hate on something it would be the so called arkham stories, the a freaking woeful eg i hoped in one to have a quick look ( planning to play them after the campaign ) only to find after a quick battle then jumping out i was at 66percent, so would i pay for these... Def not! Pointless and worthless in my opinion but for the campaign i can def suggest it..

Centaur, my dude, Rocksteady totally acknowledged Origins as canonical! This game has (spoilers) Firefly in it, making references to the events of Origins. Also, the GCPD evidence lockup is filled with effects of the enemies of Origins.

discussion. Rocksteady have stated this is the end of their trilogy.
Thats the entirety of the joke. Them being on video pretending Origins
doesn't exist.. That they ignored Origins completely in their
discussions but not in the game thats why the joke talks about OUTSIDE
the game sending them hate mail. I always forget a lot of people don't
watch stuff outside of the games themselves.

PC users: Don't even bother with this garbage port for now; either get it on console, or wait a few months after everything is patched. It's downright unplayable at the moment.

Less than a minute in and you already got two details wrong. There's several mentions of Origins throughout Knight, including a weapon that was unique to that game which you can reaquire from the GCPD evidence lockup. It's also set 9 months after the events of Arkham City.

Great review. Playing the first 3 hours or so I can agree with you on the Batmobile in particular.

Well #1, most of the gameplay shown was with him using a skin. And #2, there is a new suit in the game different from Arkham city, so it may have longer cape

I gotta get this off my chest....I really hate the facial textures in this game. Like I think Barbara looks so much better when she's on the comm with Bats than when you go and see her in the clocktower.
Most everyone in this game except for the Bat Family (the ones that do the running around anyways) looks just...like their sick or something. Could be dominant color of the lighting in this game too, which seems to be a lot of dismal cool colors. What do you think?

Origins isnt a part of the rocksteady trilogy but Rocksteady themselves confirmed its canon. you can find loads of references to origins in the evidence archive.

After making so many incredible design decisions I still can't understand how Rocksteady could choose to make the gamer have to stop being batman and focus so heavily on the batmobile, it was like jar jar binks, it just never left. It's pretty baffling how such a smart developer couldn't see they were overusing that one part of the game and just shoved it at the player over and over even though it had such a boring and monotonous gameplay loop. It's almost like they were forced to implement it in the game every few minutes because they spent so much time designing it that they had no more time left for story development. Without the heavy handed overuse of this silly tank Arkham Knight could have been something special.

I think the batmobile was cool for a bit but really overused. And I can't fault the boss fights, considering that none of the other games really had spectacular boss fights aside from Mr. Freeze in Arkham City

i have 1 thing to say about the Xbox One version its a little but still big thing THE BUTTON PROMPTS ARENT RIGHT! The A is Green with a black A and it should be reverted same with X Y B i cant stand that i dont know why!
have completed asylum and city loads of times but cant bring myself to complete this a 2nd time. I hate using the car all the time and doing missing with it. it was the thing I dreaded most when the bat car was announced tobe in the game. the game to some has been called "batman world of tanks"
