    Great job Austin ! You made it look simple !
    Just one thing........Toyota calls it VVTL-i. There is Lift !
    We import used cars from Japan, and I was in the business for 15 years. The Japanese vehicles with the 2ZZ engine are the Corolla Fielder Z Aerotourer wagon, the Runx Z Aerotourer, the Allex RS180 and the Voltz. The Runx and the Allex are identical except for badges.
    I imported my Corolla Fielder wagon with 42.000 kms (26,250 miles) in 2007. Now it is doing 242,000 kms (151,250 miles). Except for 4 coil packs and recently a throttle body, I have never repaired anything on the engine. We have crawling traffic in our country, poor winding uphill & downhill roads, so it is especially hard on the throttle. The butterfly valve was worn, giving a too-fast idle ! There are lots of Japanese used parts shops so I got a good one for US$ 74.00. (TT$500)
    At 68, I have no intention of buying another car. This engine is just great !
    I was mortified at the external condition of the Vibe's engine ! You can eat off mine !
    Great video.
    Respect.

    Good job!!! And from the looks of that filter and the gunk in the engine, you will most likely have to do it again after a couple of oil changes. The more gunk that let’s go from inside the engine later.🤷‍♂️

    Common oil leak on the 2ZZ is the timing cover gasket. The tensioner o-ring is common also. There are 5 key points where RTV is required along with a new gasket on timing cover. Change oil every 3000 miles on these and every third change give it a flush. Carb clean the air intake, electrical contact clean the MAF sensor, IK20TT Denso plugs, carb clean the PCV valve every third oil change too.

    I appreciate the effort and your willingness to bring us along on your journey. However, why did you not just order a replacement filter and have that on hand to start? You know this car has had zero if any maintenance. The filter is < $20 (per my quick Google search) yet you spent maybe double that in shop supplies - plus your time is worth a bunch too.

    I enjoyed watching your video! I have a 2004 toyota matrix xrs with a 2Zz-ge engine. My car's engine coolant meter arm kept going up and down. So my immediate reaction was the Coolant Temperature Sensor needs to be replace. So I'd replaced the old and in with the new. The next day heading to work, my car overheated and stalled by immediately shutting down. My code reader had read P0117, P2441, & P2445. What do you think it means? Did my head gasket had blown? Or is it an Emission and Exhaust problem? Please get back to me? I'd really appreciate it.

    Austin I've been using your cheat for a long time now. I tell all my friends to video or at least photo every thing because you never know what kinda curve ball life is going to throw you. If you have to pull off the job for a day or two you can always go back and look if you get stuck. It's a great hack

  • @craig357
    @craig357 ปีที่แล้ว

    Carb clean solenoid. New VVTL-i filter. Change out lift bolts under cam cover. Fresh oil and filter. If oil unchanged over 3000 miles since last change, do a flush before commencing what I mentioned. If still no fix, check timing. 2ZZ can be very temperamental when it comes to lift and timing. Just half a tooth can screw it all up.

    Keep in mind the clutch assembly is directly below the vvt solenoid, so put several rags down there before taking the solenoid off or oil will seep into the bellhousing. Ask me how I know.

    Isn't that the LIFT mechanism on the 2zz? I thought VARIABLE VALVE TIMING mechanism is the linear solenoid located near the front of the engine beside cylinder #1 intake manifold port. That engine has both VARIABLE VALVE TIMING and VALVE LIFT, two separate functions.

    • @ramishrambarran3998
      @ramishrambarran3998 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct. Toyota calls it VVTL-i. The i is Intelligent. The fuzzy logic system of the transmission learns your driving habits and changes the gears accordingly.
      Honda calls theirs V-TEC. Variable valve Timing and Electronic lift Control.

    Austin most of the time the reason the Variable Valve Timing don't work is the VVT valve timing solenoids. Usably if you just clean them thy work just fine .This the codes Variable Valve Timing Code p0011 p0010 p0012 p0013 p0014 p0028.

    No offense but if I had that Vibe I would find a sucker to buy it and go buy a 1980 Pontiac Phoenix with the Iron Duke, which I had. Ugly, under powered, weird car but drove it until it was a pile of rust and wouldn't move. Sold it to somebody that drove it for at least another 5 years because I kept seeing it around town. "They don't build them like they used to" which is what all the old people used to tell me. Now I are one.
