  • Comprehensive but brief review of the 9mm MILSPEC M1152 FMJ from Winchester. This is the US Army's replacement ammo for NATO 124 gr FMJ, specifically for the MHS Sig M17 program. Advertised velocity is 1320 fps from a 4.7" barrel. Review includes chronograph readings from three barrel lengths, plus comparisons to 115 gr WWB and also 124 gr NATO. Penetration test shots from 10 feet.

      1467 FPS from a Ruger PC carbine, 16" barrel. This was in early 2022. 1467 was the 5 shot average; velocity range was 1457 to 1481....which is very consistent overall.

      That’s not how it works. Just because TH-cam puts on ad on a video doesn’t mean the content creator gets money. In fact, TH-cam has demonetized nearly every gun channel because TH-cam/Google/Alphabet is staunchly anti 2A. Yet TH-cam still plays ads on every video, while the author gets nothing in return. So TH-cam is essentially using them for free ad space and marketing while not paying a dime to the creators.

    This ammunition was created to satisfy a contract requirement and to improve cycling reliability with military issue M17 pistols. The M17's sold to the military have a significantly heavier recoil spring than is installed in civilian P320 pistols to increase service life without armorer intervention. P320 pistols have to function with a wide variety of ammunition, while M17's only have to run Mil-spec ammo. Feeding failures were observed with the M17 when used with the existing 115 grain NATO ball round.
    As we are all probably aware, SIG Sauer also got a contract to supply our military with ammunition, but chose to partner with Olin (Winchester) for this since their own ammunition production capacity was too small. The military RFP had a requirement for "increased lethality relative to the existing platform without changing the chambering or increasing barrel length". This indicates that unsurprisingly, the military was unhappy with the effectiveness of the existing 115 grain FMJ, and this accounts for the increased velocity and perhaps the truncated cone (flat tip) projectile of the new round. So this change to new ammunition appears to be an attempt to fix a couple of problems that both the military and SIG would rather not talk about, the impotence of the existing 115 grain NATO round, and malfunctions in the M17 that would require at a minimum that new springs be installed in existing M17's already issued.

    I've been hoping someone would come around with some sort of test on these, so first of all, thank you, and it's good to see you again. I have a theory about the army's decision to go to a truncated nose bullet at higher velocity (which the Army seems reluctant to share with us as of yet), which is urban warfare. Truncated nose bullets appear to track straighter through bodies and may well hit "harder" and dump more energy in a shorter distance than the 124 grain NATO 9mm. Also I think they MIGHT be more effective through auto glass, which would probably not be a battlefield criterion, but in urban conflict would seem be relevant. I picked up half a few and they shoot true in my handguns (M&P 2.0 4.25" and HK VP9 4.09"). The increased muzzle blast is noticeable.

    Given most Soldiers on the battlefield now wear some type of body armor-moving away from the 124 NATI makes no sense at all. UNLESS they plan to issue some type of “penetrator” ammo in 115gr-then velocity would be a must. I cannot confirm this is the situation BUT highly suspect it to be so. Great job with the video 👍

    • @HughesEnterprises
      @HughesEnterprises 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jonahpatton8879 Maybe you should re-read his comment. Because it’s clear to me he’s inferring the 124 is possibly being replaced by a 115 in anticipation of a light fast penetrator. Then you reply that you’re confused because you didn’t read his comment. And now that you actually agree with the original comment and mine but don’t realize it yet.
      The other thing is this is training ammo and it has nothing to do with the standard pressure heavy slow 147gr hollowpoint PDX-1 clone carry ammo the joint services is actually issuing for defense in service pistols. I got a KKM Barrel in .357sig for my M&P 4.25". If you own a .40S&W most guns can swap out barrels. Glock, SIG P320, M&P etc. I also got some Critical Duty .357sig but I rarely tote it around.

      The M1153 is a hollow point, do some research before you reply and I’d want it so I could do some testing with it myself.
