This is a nice introduction to the camera and attachments. I was hoping for a "how to use and assemble" all the attachment parts, as the instructions are unclear.

The battery compartment is a little tricky. I'm afraid it's going to snap. Other than that, I like mine.
I agree. I don't change the battery often though - change it right from the camera.

The video on mine keeps freezing after about a minute and a half. Doesnt always do it so it doesnt seem to be a setting. Video freezes but I can still hear audio. Any thoughts?
I head heard people reporting experiences such as yours with different action cameras if they use regular or slower SD cards. I use a SanDisk Extreme and haven't had a problem. If you Google or look on Amazon reviews for this and other action cameras, you'll see lots of comments about the type of SD card to use. If that's not the issue, I'm not sure. Good luck.

the batteries that came with it don't hold a long charge - any reason why it would be doing that? I'd love to use it but I can only get 90 mins out of it.

No, that is something I had - it's short monopod, otherwise known as a selfie stick - the one I've used for years is made by xshot

Does this have something to secure to a backpack shoulder strap? I'm planning a 10 day backpacking trip with dog and need to be hands free.
It has a generic strap with velcro, but I don't know how well it would work with a backpack - I wouldn't trust it. I have heard other recommend

If they want to do any editing of their videos they'll need some sort of editing software. I haven't used it but I've heard good things about Hitfilm which I think is free.

SD cards of up to 64 GB are compatible. As with most devices, it does not come with the SD card.

I used a Canon GX7. It's lightweight, has a flip screen, HD video but the audio is not great.

in my experience under typical use, it's about the same as the GoPro Hero - ok, but not great audio, but I've used it for action shots.
your choice to show off an ACTION cam while sitting in your car really didn't make sense..
