    So This video is a longer format then we are usually doing on this channel, I decided to make it so we could Jam pack it with information so in the first part of the video we do the in game of the flight and footage and then we do the group tacview you guys enjoyed from last time and then after that we go over the content with moltar who hosts the SATAL competitions and is a part of the 51 squadron in DCS and he talks us thru some awesome squadron tactics successful things we did and things we can improve on. So I really feel like this video is jam packed with awesome stuff for anyone who really wants to learn this stuff and is just a casual player in DCS/Beginner. I hope you guys enjoy the video and as always thank you for watching and your support on the channel. You guys are the best.

      Get Moltar to lead a 3 Vs 3 where you don't know what the enemy are flying. He is Tactically and strategically superior. Would like to see if he could orchestrate in a live theatre. Also in that scenario you need to be the lead on the opposing team, since you have the second best strategic and tactical abilities and we know your combat skills are high. A lot of su-27 and j-11 pilots in DCS think its good to stay low and to hide in mountains to try to pop off IR missiles, but the su-27/J-11 actually performs better in my experience when you fight at high altitudes just like the US jets. They have inferior weapons/radar systems in BVR but staying at high altitude gives you more options to easily deal with that. Fighting the F-15 will always be a little bit of a challenge but I do just fine in my su-27/J-11.

      Just saw this comment, had the same reaction I guess.
      Russians are known for surviving low altitude ejections. (Ukraine I think had that horrible air show crash where the jet hit the ground and flew through and drug a fence through a crowd of people)
      th-cam.com/video/9RdY0EAkUaY/w-d-xo.html
      Pilot survived though, but he was still seated where the cockpit was pointed towards the sky..
      Then there’s another air show crash where the ejection seat from a Russian air craft, ejected in what I’ll call a negative position or upside down almost, but the seat was able to eject out and then back up in a successful attempt to get the pilot out and back up so the chute could deploy. I believe that the pilot survived that as well.

    This type of scenario is a great way to illustrate how important managing the BVR and Edge of Visual Range fights are, avoiding WVR as much as possible even when limited to 1990s-era fighters and missiles.
    When you factor modern AESAs, midcourse-guided BVR missiles that have cooperative guidance, higher bandwidth data links, and everyone with HMS-cued HOBS missiles, the stand-off ranges and threat bubbles increase even more.
    Now imagine having VLO platforms in high altitude perch looking down with fused sensors data, allowing the F-15Cs to maintain EMCON in this scenario, and acting as AEWAC/ EW, with the ability to do terminal guidance for weapons.

    Great video guys! I am not much of a gamer, but, I was a F-15 mechanic for a while. Can a person actually switch buttons in the cockpit? I saw a difference in ramp (engine intake) configuration on the runway before launch. When all three F-15's were poised at End of Runway, the two in the back looked like the L/R Intake switches were still in the emergency position. I'm not sure what the performance is during a computer simulation, but, I know it would greatly affect real flight performance. Just a fan commenting.

    Just came back to watch this one for the 3rd time and only now did I manage to appreciate the value of Moltar's commentsm so VERY glad you took that unusual step of a 2nd Tacview- no shortage of lessons here!
    Only regret is that no significant attention paid to Nylop's situation. Not only don't know WHY he had so much difficulty tracking the SU's, but why was there no effective response to his reported confusion? I'm sure IF Moltar had heard the audio, he'd have lots to say about a squadron's response in such a dangerous scenario.

    Great channel, high quality work and extremely educational for people that are coming into DCS world. I'm into it since Flanker 2.0 and I like all aspects of DCS flying but this is the one that I caught myself way too many times eyerolling just because of negligence for the Red Force and sometimes overpowering Blue (only in certain aspects I must say). Both jets here are just basic models, almost on the arcade level but when we put that aside, there is this overpowered AIM-120C, God almighty missile that is incredibly hard to avoid even though it is on-field proven that has pretty low PK. This missile has better radar than all jets combined and it's just way too hard to avoid which is again, not by accounts that US and Serbian pilots have encountered during 1999 bombing. You can see it here in the interview with F-15C pilot Mike "Dozer" Shower th-cam.com/video/qABnIDOcyS8/w-d-xo.html in which he basically acknowledged 33% of PK. Keep in mind that those MiG-29 had radar and RWR failure. The only thing that worked fine are the engines. You have greater chance of notching F-15C own radar than AMRAAM's that is size of needle point when compared to it. Great flying but when AIM-120 got off the rail it really became a bit cringy to watch (this is pointed out to ED, just to be clear). I guess that they went into creating good flight model of the missile but just rolled the dice and choose to have much better PK and better performance in "electronic" area. On the other side, they really bashed Russian A/A missiles without any good basis for it. Don't get me wrong... my favourite jets are F-14B, F-5E and Viggen but it doesn't feel right when you win or loose in those two particular jets (F-15C, SU-27 + MiG-29) as deep down you know it's rigged.

    Love the 3v3. One thing I'll say about the R-27 variants is that after yechnical exploitation of scores of them gained from the East Germans on the MiG-29s, the pK was close to zero, a really POS missile in the history of AAMs.
    The R-73, on the contrary, was scary effective and pushed a lot of thinking in NATO on the ASRAAM.
    The US Navy had pioneered AIM-9G & VTAS/SEAM in the late 1960s with HMS in the F-4B/J, but it didn't catch on with the rest of the US air component forces, although the concept was further developed in the AFTI F-16 starting in 1978.

    Stumbled in here on your channel for no reason, didn't really know why one of your videos got recommended but I've been binge-watching your stuff for the last 9 hrs and have to head of for work now. I've watched 3-4 of your sessions with the french rafale-guy, your Huey vs. Hind thing (funny af, still feel the pain from pretty much constant laughing...) and now I've seen this one as a last one (for the moment!). Love the fighting and the in depth analysis afterwards. Really good work on your side, chapeau!
    Maybe I will get into this game myself. Never wanted to play stuff like that because I've always said I don't play what I've used to do for work but either my mentality changed a bit or it's enough time passed by now.

      Definitely do it Johnathan, I picked up a Thrustmaster T16000M hotas (with pedals) on sale for $130. It would be considered a starter set up but does everything you need in DCS. There's plenty of tutorials in game and on TH-cam, also scenarios that you don't have to go through the start up process of a fidelity fighter. It takes time and patience but worth it.

    Are these guys flanker pilots normally? I'm watching mistakes typically made by new Flanker pilots going against an F-15 armed with AiM-120's.
    Ghost doing evasive against an AiM-120 like a new Flanker pilot
    Viking firing ET and ER's at the same time, big waste as the F-15 is going to drop chaff and flares. Locking on your radar to them just tells the F-15 pilot, hey, I'm shooting missiles at you! Typical mistake of new Flanker pilots.
    And the only one that seems to do ok is Tax.
    And they should have stayed in the mountains. Yes, the F-15's have the altitude and angle advantage, but DCS missile mechanics is stupid and they hate mountains. Those 120's would hit the mountains if you know how to do evasive in those canyons.

    • @Kolobochok95
      @Kolobochok95 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fair enough. Thing in DCS is though, the 15's have TWS and can lob off AMRAAM's to then go cold. We Flankers can't. The ET + ER tactic is a valid strat, coming from below. His nose (field of view) will block whatever is infront and right below him and he won't see the ET launch. Had GS not called everyone to go cold at that moment my ET would have killed him, as I saw him defend (go cold) I fired an ER and had to stay exposed longer to guide it and make sure I actually got the kill and not over-exposed myself for far too long for no reason, which eventually got me killed since GS and Sunde were a lot closer than expected. When you fly that low most guys don't scan down enough or try to scan what's further ahead of them, expecting the enemy to be farther away, somewhere in the mountains. If we stayed in the mountains it would have been a stalemate - not fun or really engaging. One thing to take away though is that communication between us was rather poor and Xoho kind of deviated from the plan and just YOLO-ed into an AMRAAM. :P

    • @dev0random
      @dev0random 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kolobochok95 Thanks for the response and explains what was going on here.
      If boring was the issue, you guys should have just played this without the AiM-120, would have been more engaging and interesting then. Or at least with the R-77. It's the only reason why us Flanker pilots never fly high and develop low altitude tactics instead.
      As you had the initiative to bait them in, but decided to YOLO to save time and make it less boring, but we didn't get to see some DCS Flanker tactics against an opponent with superior BVR weapons. Sure it's boring, but it keeps me on top of the score board and it would teach other pilots how to fly against superior firepower, no matter what plane. Video could have been cropped to make it shorter, so who cares. We would get a nice analysis by Growling in tacview then, as a lot of F-15 DCS pilots make some huge mistakes and feel over confident in them (As Growling did in his dive, would have ended differently in the mountains and if the flanker pilot knew how to counter).

    39:21 you point out the mistakes, but if he was to commit tours the missiles while turning 6G force he could of went cold, but the Su-27 would have spotted him and gun him down. 40:20 That is good performance (Viking 1-1) in the Flanker, me personally would never expose my rear end to the enemy, but he was low to the deck and manage to get the missile off by flaring, which is perfect, but still give up your tail for the enemy which is closing in. Love the video and learning from your interception PvP match keep it up GS.
