The canon ball is a nice old find! I found one too about a year ago. It's from a small canon.
Yeah magnet fishing is a well known thing. I have seen tons of videos of people do that for a while now. Great video and keep up the fun!

To find history you always have to be willing to try something new. Even by watching your videos again it’s wonderful to see the items you use to search with. Starting with small magnets working up to larger magnets then hooks and underwater ROVs. I can tell your passionate about doing this.

I have seen a couple of videos where people have taken old Microwave ovens apart and used the permanent magnets contained within the magnetron which are supposed to be very powerful.

The metal piece you found is a tank track link so there must be a tank or a spare piece dump down there, you could have found a tank or a few guns for the tanks or just other spare pieces. Nice!!!!!!!
Maybe the "cannonball" is a ball bearing to the turret of a tank.

wow , so great to read that and remember : Histroy is everywhere and could be right outside Your doorstep so og out and find it. Thanks J-Mack.
if your coils water proof which most are then you can use one of them and scoops to retrieve items from under the water, im sure you know what they are, their like small buckets with holes in thats attacthed to a handle, like a spade but with small bucket on the end, ive seen people make their own and their some build guides on here so their easy to make, just make sure you tie the detector to your waist securely in case you have to use both hands to retrieve anything, the last thing you want is to drop the detector in water, or you can buy waterproof covers for most detectors so they will protect it from splashes.

Like you, am interested in magnet fishing, I just haven’t tried it yet. Any find is a great find. The big round ball reminded me that the Germans used a lot of ball bearings during the war. Wouldn’t it be great if that was a ball bearing used on a tiger tank to help the turret to turn? When searching for history my mind goes wild thinking of what each item is.
MF is great to do but hate to lose the expensive magnets :)

I have a suggestion for your next magnet fishing trip. You should get some hip waiders so you can actually stand in the pond or stream, It might help you out when your doing this in the future.

I just started magnet fishing..and the kids love it more than swinging a detector..gues the water..and the imagination of what lies below holds forth..anyways..it adds a new aspect of our sport..and a few old fishn rods..and reels..thx for the video..rich

could the ball be a runner bearing for something like a tank turret or a bunker door? or were those not that big?
Great video! I wonder if the stainless steel pins are maybe grenade related or an artillery retaining pin or possibly even some pin from a weapon. They had to be stainless steel for a reason. That steel ball or ball bearing is very interesting. I'm dying to know what that was used for or with. It would be a very large ball bearing!
+Raoul Thomas The German hand grenades did not use pins, and the grenade pins that I've seen were not as long as those were. My guess is that they are just nails or something of that nature.
The ball might be from a big ball bearing! Many big canon positions that could rotate 360' have bearings filled with balls like that. Found one similar a couple of years ago, it shows in one of my videos! :)

you can use a plastic water bottle with bottom cut out over your magnet with rope through mouth hole to keep it from snagging on rocks or limbs

Have you checked out the Garrett ATPro metal detector? It is waterproof to a depth of about 2 meters.
The wire was definatly used for a field communication device and the ball looks like something a bomb would scatter. If there where nazy army barracks there it was most likely bombed.
Pretty cool. But I would have tried to get bigger magnets with more surface area on them and I would have brought something like a metal rake or hoe to drag bigger objects on the bottom towards me.

where are you from sir? and what countries have you been history hunting in?
Some stainless steel made has iron in it and is attracted to a magnet although is is a low quality stainless steel. Used almost always as appliance surface covers and small screws. The iron content is low so it will not rust easy but still can rust if the conditions are right. In appliances they put a coating on the surface so it looks great. If you do not believe me just do a search for does all stainless steel have no iron in it?

I've done magnet fishing but problem is items can look good when pulled up but once the metal gets in contact with air it rusts A LOT... :(

@ww2historyhunter if you buy a caribine hook you make the same loop as you have now than buy a candel and put the wax of the candel between your points were the loop come togheter than push them to eachother than tape it whit grey duck tape you have a strong binding

Would that metal ball be a bowl. I'm not too knowledgeable but I believe that a similar metal ball is used in a sport called road bowling which is popular in parts of Germany and Holland and also here in Ireland

It can't be stainless as it would'nt get picked up by your magnet
why don't you get a plate of metal and glue magnets on it. A 200mm square plate and glue magnets on one side and on the other a loop to attach a rope. you should be able to cover more area and have more magnetic power to retrieve things..

great video, as usual. I HAVE A 400 LB MAGNET ON THE WAY FROM aMAZON, Can you recommend a god but inexpensive strong metal detector and also a stick detector? Wd have an old house and 2 properties up in the hills above Chiang Dao Chiang Mai.. About 50 meters beloe one piece id an old earthen work "trench" where there was a battle around 1900 where the Lanna kingdom successfully held of the marauding Ho army from Southern China when they were trying to capture Chiang Mai. I would love to dig there. I don't think it has been searched before. They had muskets, swords, large knives back then, and a little armor and some had stee, helmets.
if you get a Fisher F2 or F4 you get a sturdy and effective machine and a Garrett Pro-pointer to get those small tems when you dig. Greetings from us.

a canister shell is an anti personnel shell usually shot from a tank or artillery and it has multiple balls in each shell
