    Btw for anyone who wants to do this on a dark fabric! Make a white base for the painting, and then, and only then paint to get vibrant colors.

    It depends on what type of fabric you painting on.If you're painting on a stiff fabric like denim or canvas undiluted acrylic paint works on those kind of stiff fabrics.However if you're painting on thin flexible fabric like t shirt fabric then you should use half water half acrylic paint and a drop of conditioner like you say.

    As an painting artist, I have always learned that diluting acrylic with too much water breaks the chemical bonding of the acrylic paint, therefore we use medium to thin the paint. So it makes me wonder how it doesn’t affect your result using that amount of water. Have you tried to use medium to dilute your paint? You can even buy fabric medium. Have you tried that?

    • @MichaelJaikaran
      @MichaelJaikaran 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      This is because she uses the conditioner. Conditioners and fabric softeners are a type of chemical that creates a thin layer coat on any fabric that they are applied on. It bonds within the fabric and on top of the fabric which is why the design looks bright when first painted. However, when washed it is a slight bit lighter, because only the part that had the paint and conditioner bonded into the fabric is what remains.

    Could I put the mixture in a spray bottle and use a stencil?

    • @TheArtClubOnline
      @TheArtClubOnline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This could potentially work as long as your spray bottle puts out a fine mist... if it's too wet it will bleed. Also, you'd have to cover the rest of the shirt entirely so it wouldn't get any over-spray on it. And my last thought is, the spray bottle could potentially clog with the paint. Another idea could be to use a sponge and stencil. Just again make sure not to wet the sponge too much or the paint will bleed.

      If you allowed it to dry and then maybe even put it in the dryer for a few minutes on medium heat, then no the paint shouldn’t totally wash out. It does fade, but it shouldn’t wash out entirely. From my experience though, this method works on white fabric better than colored fabric. But experimenting is the best way to find out what works for you!

    I really like this idea!
    A strange paint combo/mix I’ve made that worked really well if anyone is interested-
    mixing watercolor (tubes) paint with mod podge-
    It dried very quickly and has a translucent effect, I painted miniature flowers and leaves on a box,
    They stay textured and you’re able to easily layer them
    I guess it’s just tinting the mod podge really, so you can add as little/much paint as you want until your desired amount,
    Just remember the mod podge is milky when wet but dries clear, so the dried colors will be more vibrant/saturated than when you mix the paint in wet

    • @colourfulsouls
      @colourfulsouls 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Note-
      I painted w this mixture onto watercolor paper I covered a box in (didn’t have glue so used mod podge and had a happy accident figuring out how nice it looks)
      Anyways-
      I felt like I should add this note cuz idk if this mixture would work on fabrics too, I’ve never tried it,

  • @Tentmakerindia

    When you are painting on fabric with acrylic paint, some time the paint will start drying soon, in that case when you are mixing the paint in the ice tray, you can add a pinch of Urea which is used in the agriculture fertilizer, it will look like sugar or salt. adding this will slow down the drying process.

    • @TheArtClubOnline
      @TheArtClubOnline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm pretty sure the hair conditioner just thins the paint out so it really sinks into the fibers of the fabric. I only do this when I'm painting on clothing.

      @TheArtClubOnline ?

    • @TheArtClubOnline
      @TheArtClubOnline  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well you can try that but I imagine it will dry quite thick. Usually we want the conditioner as a softener for the paint so it will sink into the fibres. If you already paint a layer, the conditioner unfortunately won’t do much. But it’s worth a try!

  • @arsonwasnthere

    How long would the paint stay in? Does it ever wash out? I want to try this but I’m scared it will wash out after a couple of washes.

    • @TheArtClubOnline
      @TheArtClubOnline  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well from my experience it kind of depends on your fabric. I have done this and it lasted really well and I’ve also done it and it faded too much. My best advice is, don’t use too much conditioner or water, and also, it works best on white or very light fabric. But you should be able to wash it no problem. I have one that I wash all the time and it’s still very bright! Also, be sure to heat set it before washing. Once you let it dry for a day, put it in the dryer on medium to high heat for a few minutes. That will help set the paint.

    Hey if I'm painting on a back shirt, do I dilute the white base too? Will it show up?

    • @TheArtClubOnline
      @TheArtClubOnline  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is tricky to answer because I haven’t tried this method on dark clothing. I guess the best advice I could give is to try it on a dark scrap fabric first and see how it does.

    • @ashleeaustin358
      @ashleeaustin358 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @The Art Club Online well, I tried diluting the white first and found that it took too long to get it bright enough for the colors to show. So I opted for using undiluted paint. In the end it turned out pretty good! Except the shirt found its way into the laundry and was washed... it faded but it still looks okay. Lol 😆 thanks for all the help!
