@@bbc_nnnn at 3:02, he motions to someone at stage left, pointing at Eric and giving a palm up sign. Then when Eric starts soloing at 3:37, he senses Eric's volume level isn't highlighting his solo spot enough, he turns to his own amp and dials down.
satch in particular has generated some of the most inspired and inspiring instrumental guitar compositions of my lifetime... i am eternally grateful! got me through some heavy stuff over the course of my life.
Just saw them. In this case Eric was noticeably quieter than the other 2, but not in a good way. He had some tech issues along the way and for multiple vintage Marshall heads it wasn’t giving him any feedback. So there’s that. He may be sick too but that’s just an educated guess. Still great regardless.
Which is surprising. The dude plays at extreme volume on stage...at least he used to. Met him one time at a meet and greet on the Ah Via Musicom tour in Atlanta. Played the center stage theater. Three piece band. He had plexiglass in front of his amps and they still got over the PA. If you were standing at the stage.
Ditto - I didn't even know about it until I saw this video. I saw the original G3 Tour/lineup back in 1996 in NYC at the Beacon Theatre....although Adrian Legg opened for them, who was incredible
Notwithstanding the great threesome 6 stringers taking most of the spotlight and lion share of solos, I still say the secret ingredient of this band is the incredibly versatile, underrated and prodigious keyboardist and singer /songwriter Rai Thistlethwayte.
Can’t believe I saw their first tour in Phoenix in the late 90s. Gee it’s making me feel old. It was amazing. It was at an amphitheater and it was loud even being outside. Joe had his stuff cranked up. Amazing!
I JUST got back from seeing the 'Vegas show (literally). Awesome, like all the other G3 shows I've seen. I've also got front row to see Satriani/Vai in Houston in May! WooHoo!🤟🤟
hey everybody who loves guitar, rock and roll, hard rock, psychedelic rock alternative rock we really have to thank these guys for keeping guitar alive because the industry tried to kill it off.
I have never seen these guys live in person--what I would have given to have been at this gig! I have always loved them all, but have have been blown away by Vai--the more I learn his back story (with Frank and his notation) and I realize that I missed out on a little of best during his prime!
Great stuff! they all sound amazing as always, as does the rest of the band! Too bad Eddie never played one of these gigs with them. Would have been interesting to see his influence in there.
If Edward was a part of it I would definitely buy a ticket . He was not of this world and I guess it was one of the reasons Dweezil worshiped him growing up despite always being around Vai.
He had a massive ego and was clearly threatened and worried about being outplayed especially with the improv. He was used to being worshipped as the best, but was actually very limited as an instrumentalist. So many of his solos have exactly the same phrases, especially that whammy scoop hammer-on thing he did to finish off almost every solo. I don't think he'd come off well on a G3 show in direct comparison to technically better guitarists.
Its amazing Joe Satriani is still Joe Satrianing and Steve Vai is still Steve Vaing.... I hope Eric Johnson will be Eric Johnsoning again as he used to do in a short period of time.
Someone needs to reconsider the audio mix for these three guys together. EJ has vintage output pickups and Vai’s have about 5 1/2 times the output and then there’s the vintage amps vs the Synergy stuff. Either turn the two hi output maniacs down or turn the Vintage man up! If it’s gonna be like that at the LA show in a couple weeks I’m gonna be real mad.

I would love to see this reunion, but they aren't playing any of the G3 shows in my area. However I am going to see Satch & Vai in April, so I guess two outta three ain't bad. 😁
@@prabhatguitarthat’s a great and valid point. EJs tone by the nature of it will not cut through as well compared to Vai and Satch and FOH focused more on Vai and Satch
Johnson was holding back to not deflate the other two egos on stage. All three are awesome, Eric Johnson's playing is untouchable. This is Teacher/Student nostalgia jamming. Plus Eric Johnson holding back.
Joe is so good, he plays guitar and the drums at the same time.
Most transgender folks are somewhat unattractive 😂
Hahahahah
Joe is a barbiedoll

Can't believe it's 28 years since G3 began in 1996. I still got the cassette tape of the first G3 album featuring these 3 guys.
I have the DVD its amazing still
...Mine got spoilt in mid 2000s....both cassette & CD📼💿😢..
I was there for the first tour, Austin Music Hall. Standing room only for like 3+ hours. My legs and feet were on fire by the end of it.

I have seen all 3 separately but, I could watch these guys jam all day. What a collection of Master Guitarists. Thanks for the video.

Man! Joe and Steve both have those Indian influences going on and are so in synch with each other.
The Legacy is sounding killer! Steve have to back use the Legacy again, the best tone ❤

Vai doesn't have ANY blues sensibilities whatsoever, kinda weird that they chose to play this song.

Joe Satriani on guitar and drums, Bryan Beller on bass and keyboards/vocals - how does one learn this skill?
Cool!!! I thought that was Bryan Beller on Bass😊❤
Whenever these three jam, Eric's volume is always much too low. It's the Joe and Steve show with tag along guest Eric Johnson...such a shame.
I've noticed that too ... bummer
Everytime I see Vai on these he’s the loudest guy onstage. I wish they’d put Buckethead on one of these and watch him destroy.
My guess is it's something to do with EJ's tone stack that's hard to crank up to match the others.
