Great video guys I use to work on a crab boat our trap were smaller tho so we would pick em up and shake it by hand to get the crab out on a table then sort them out we would usually fish 100 trap in set of 20 the crab we were fishing was call rock crab and we fished lobster too.

To sort the crab we were doing it by eye normally since we got use to the size here in gaspesie

Very cool! Sounds similar to dungeoness, the pots are small, 2 crew shake the crab out. Yeah generally the Tanner crab here in Kodiak are pretty big, and a lot of them you can pick out without measuring. We don't do tanners but once year at the most, so untrained eyes, don't want to risk keeping shorties.

Do you fish for king and dungeness crab also?

Hi alotofgrey, we don’t do king crab, there isn’t a fishery for it here in Kodiak. However we have fished dungeoness in the past and are planning to this year. Thanks for commenting!
