    I smiled ear to ear, and I'm not the one riding it! Cool bike, I love '80's motorcycles, especially any Japanese cruiser that can outrun a Sportster 1200! 😁😎👍

    I have a 1982 Virago XV920 with 16,000 miles. It is The Greatest Bike. Lots of performance and very easy to ride. I got it with 9,900 miles for $850 from a guy that needed the cash. That was A steal for what I got. Incredible Motorcycle.

    I bought one from someone I knew back in 1988 for $800. Had 7k miles on it. Had it for 2 years. Great bike

    Been Running an 82 920 since 03'. Been from NY to Sturgis and to Austin, TX Rot Rally and back still runs like a champ. Damn Virago Marbles starter issues the only flaw.

    • @charlespflanze8761
      @charlespflanze8761 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There's an easy fix, add a voltage stabilizer inline to the TCI. The real cause of the starter issue is electrical, not mechanical. Fixing the starter is only a temporary fix.

    I picked up a 82 920 that had been sitting in someone's back yard last year for $100. Found another one in rougher shape for $150 swapped the tank,seat and turned the bars forward because I'm 6'4" and I've put 8K on it without any issues! These are fun bikes!

    Old thread, but have to agree ; amazing bikes . I have the european 'Roadster' version (TR1), chain-drive 981cc and it Wastes harleys.. they always try to catch up and check it out , let them get almost there ..then 'Sayonara'.... It has normal (old-school 70's triumph-trident) straight handle-bars, xs650-style original instruments, 40mm carbs, taller sprockets , roller=cam conversion, gets close to 120mph , its a joy to wind it out. I have an 82 xv750 still going strong, never rode anything else to compare it with, but my dad had gotten one brand new right when they came out in 81, he's always said they are the best and Harleys don't compare, guess the old man was right!

    Virago's are awesome. I have a '91 1100cc. It destroys shit on the road worth $25-$35,000 out there. There is a good reason why they never changed anything for 26 years. They didn't have to. Cause its perfect. I said PERFECT!!! LOL. your bike sounds amazing. I love the flickabilaty.

    You stated if it was a chain drive you would make it into a chopper. I'm curious why it would have to be a chain drive does it have something to do with the alignment of a drive shaft? I just bought an 82 virago for 500 bucks. I don't know anything about these bikes but I read a little bit about the starter issues. Is there an upgraded starter kit that could go on this bike? Thanks for the review.

    Order yourself a Dyno Jet jet kit for the bigger jets that you need. About $100 -$125 for a jet kit.

    Is there a difference between a 82 and the 83 920. I always see that some models are “920j” and “920r”. What’s the difference ?

    • @TheTW13
      @TheTW13 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shaft driven and chain driven. Shafts were cruisers; chains were standards. I believe there were also differences in the heads too but can't remember what.

      JackHew the cylinder heads on a Euro model is bored to 95mm were as the cylinder on a USA model was 92mm I believe this was due to emissions

    Despite being ahead of it's time for '82, that LCD dash looks out of place on this style of bike and personally, I think they should have had a nice pair of analogue dials instead and put the LCD dash on their more sports-oriented bikes of this era.
