Dude!!!! I am 63 years old AND, been playing for 45 years and I can play some great tunes (humbly saying;)BUT, you are the only teacher that has motivated me to learn the fretboard ! Absolutely brilliant and your humility comes across so genuine when you admit you missed something makes those of us lazy grumpy old rockers listen and pay attention. If the world doesn't end in the next few months, your star will rise. You made awesome. Finally, and this his what made me watch your whole lesson and subscribe to your channel, no stupid jokes and dumb rants about stuff nobody cares about! God bless you young man!

I think the thing that helped me learn to memorize the notes was seeing the C Major notes on a piano, and how you can play 4 octaves from low E to high E on the guitar just using the 1st 4 frets then just the high E string. Understanding that these notes are just repeated on other strings and frets really simplified things for me.

I have heard so many different ways to learn these notes. Then someone turns around and says you don't need to learn them. I have pretty much dismissed them all and learned the string names and notes on my own. I put my guitar tuner on the headstock and say the name of the string as I learn it. I glance at the tuner to make sure that's the proper note and so on. Works for me.

Excellent video! I’m self-taught on the guitar so I had a terrible teacher. I had failed to memorize the notes other than the open ones and a good number of chords. In just a few minutes I have a good 50% memorized. I noticed something that made it so much easier that you failed to mention, the dots on the fretboard. These were right on the natural notes you showed and so I didn’t have to memorize what fret to start out on. My wife, classically trained musician, warned me that the dots could be in different places on some guitars, but my 3 were right on, including my Strat.

With addition to this it also makes it quicker to learn if you remember the first and last note in a power chord are the same. At least until you cross over the b-string.

BRO WHAT I JUST FOUND THIS AND IT GENUINALLY WORKED. I will admit I'm somewhat intermediate at guitar so I knew all the positions of the E strings and the open notes already but with that I genuinely learned it all in the 10 minutes (plus the 3 minute learning breaks) and holy sh*t it actually taught me the fretboard. Thank you. With a few days of consistent practice I reckon I could get it down 100%. Insane.

Until now I've ALWAYS been guessing notes by counting up from the open string, or down from the 12th fret.
That C-D-E thing is smart man. I'm gonna definitely put that into practice !
Other than that, there are so many amateur things to point out in your video, but it was never a problem because you made good fun of it, your outro specifically got me laughing a lot.
Props for your work and the tip itself. Thanks a lot ! ^^

A couple of references to terrorists. It took me a second to figure that one out. Unfortunately, whenever I attempt to relate it to the guitar, I'm still lost as to what the joke was. ...hmm, what could playing guitar have anything to do with terrorism??
