  • you need more power if not then you take your chances or perhaps your drives just won't mount and if they do they can go out anytime and then just all the sudden come back on we want speed well we have to pay for it thats for sure .

    This issue is driving me crazy, I have two m.2 drives that keep doing this. I have a 850W power supply, and high end PC. The drivers were fine for like a year, and then they randomly appear and disappear

      you could have a bad power supply that can cause drives to go on and off which is pretty much the same thing as not enough power, add up the power draw of your CPU and GPU and Mainboard power when running everything at all bore including all fans then you know what's left then you take the amps and watts draw of each drive you have attached and that might clue you in as to what's going on Drivers for a drive well PC suck that way where macs don't voltage is never the problem unless the power supply is on it way out ot its flaky its the amps/watts you draw that is the main issue with lack of power.. think of a battery the voltage is the same but if your amps or milliamps are weak then crap acts up and then when you have used it all up the battery goes dead no more amps left to power the device in the case of a power supply once all the watts.amps are used up stuff starts to go nutty disconnect some stuff and things work again that will tell you that if the power supply is in fact good then your are over drawing. i used to build and sell custom PCs years ago and the one problem we ran into at times was the power supply could not properly power everthing just because you have all those connections did not mean you could go nuts the 2 biggest power suckers are your CPU and GPU ..

    I have had this for years on a SATA HDD. Disconnect, reconnect, disconnect. Over again.
    Already replaced the SATA cable. Reinstalled Windows. Tried a different drive.
    I'm now trying a new SATA Power cable. It now seem to work fine, but I have to test it longer to be sure.
    My PSU has enough power. 756 watt Dell Precision.

    I upgraded my Rog G14 laptop ssd & put the original SSD in an external encloser & it randomly stops transferring bigger files. Annoying stuff.

    I bought an $80 mac mini hub that was also an enclosure for one 2.5” ssd and one nVME drive. It had a separate 5v usb-c
    power delivery cable, but perhaps I need to plug this into the right kind of power supply to get enough amps because the nvme drive kept ejecting until finally the nvme port on the hub just stopped working altogether. I had the usbc power delivery cable plugged into a usbc 5v slot on my power strip. Having watched this video it sounds like that slot wasn't giving my hub enough amps 🧐. I've got a replacement hub coming from amazon on Monday. Hoping that plugging into more robust power supply will solve this problem

      your on the ball dude you have to have that seperate usb power input to power the hub other wise youll get problems reccomend is a min of 3 amp and max of 5 amp for the power supply you will need you still cant fill all the ports at once expecially when you have both drive bays filled but you can plug in more stuff with the drives before you have a drop outs

    • @BenjiNewell
      @BenjiNewell 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KevinMillard68 UPDATE: Well i found a 5V 3A power supply (30watt USB C phone charger) and have been trying that on the same Hub. The dropouts are much less but I still have been getting about 1 eject a day for the past five days 😵‍💫 (only on the nVME drive, the other internal drive, SSD 2.5", has always been stable in the Hub) . Should I try a 6A power supply? I was thinking a raspberry pi power supply could work (27watt, 5v 5A) 🧐. I know its not the nVME drive itself because when I put it in in another enclosure and connect via USB its rock solid. Appreciate the advice 🙏

    What if my SSD always worked and got enough power but now it keeps disappearing and reappearing?

    • @KevinMillard68

      could be you have a port going bad or the external case controler is going bad or your SSD is almost toast

      @@KevinMillard68 FirstI tried powering with 60 watt blocks. Then a fellow suggested dropping in Down to 40 watts. Same thing happened. Kept self ejecting. It finally killed one of my nvme drives. Then I went with a Hagabis dock. Same thing.

      if you still have the problem then its something else could just be the hub has a problem or to much stuff pluged in i cant see your setup so its hard to trouble shoot what i cant see , its not a thunderbolt problem tho

    Thanks for this. So internal drives connected to the motherboard of a laptop won't disconnect like this, no matter how big they are? Thinking of those 8tb m.2 nvme.

    • @KevinMillard68
      @KevinMillard68  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      as long as your mother board can support the drive size and the amps it will draw then internaly youll be fine.

    I experienced this problem before. I have a 850 WAtt power supply with a i9-12900k with a 4090 and a samsung 990 Pro 4TB. Should I upgrade my powersupply to 1000 I t hink I had my powersupply over a year now.

      if your running an I9 and 4090 that alone needs more then 1000 watts to run properly according to all the data i have collected id go 1000 wattt plus if you can , and ditch the samsung for something better and more stable samsung anything is junk their drives are well total crap

      Waite for it sometimes it. just takes time on the other side of the fence sometimes you get lucky and get a drive that does not draw so much power not all drives are the same power requirements even in the same size and speed
