It is a bit cringey that people see criticizing of the military complex as disrespect towards the individual members of the military.
With that being said, thank you for your service, and fuck the military machine

To me, supporting the troops should mean keeping them out of combat, and able to be at home with their families, unless they actually are protecting the country from actual invaders or active threats.
Bashing individual soldiers isn't cool, but I'm all for bashing the military industrial complex, which gets so many of them killed or mentally scarred for no reason by offering them hope for opportunities such as college.
And I do think it's fair to say that most anti-war music is directed at the MIC, not the individual soldiers. e.g. "Why don't the presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?"
In that, I'm fine with bands playing for them, and providing some escape and relief to people in a very hard line of work. I'm less fine with the pandering of saying "Thanks for defending our freedom." when the military actions we engage in have very little to do with anything like that.

I wish some Americans (not all, I know) could see themselves through the eyes of people from other places sometimes. As a European, and specially as a Spaniard, the whole the military gives us freedom of speech makes me cringe so much. We got plenty of freedom of speech over here and the ones who want to take it from us are some people in the military who want to go back to the times when there was a dictator, so... 🤷 Maybe stick to music.

Thats called american exceptionalism (seriously, search that on google). They always think they're right and better than everyone else, know nothing about the world and of course are entitled to thsi mission of "saving" the world but when other countries do the same shit then that's bad, and are a danger to democracy, when in reality there is not bigger threat to democracy and human rights than the united states. It wasn’t clear from what you said whether you live here now or are still a resident elsewhere, but you are a text book example of what I was talking about. Your opinion differs from many, but you have the right to have it here in America. That’s why you expressed it. That’s great. All I am saying it is, whether you believe it or not, there are many people in our military, who are willing to die to protect that right. Since we don’t have the draft, there are many who enter the military for a paycheck. But that is not close to all of them. There are also many gung ho types who just like death and destruction , but the majority I have met believe they are protecting freedom. I’m not asking anything of you but not to assess all soldiers through the same lens. There, truly are selfless people out there who would die for you and me. Whether you believe that or not is your choice, and I respect that. I would just hope that you would respect any soldier who does have such a selfless mindset. They are out there. Thank you for your courage in sharing what might not be a popular opinion. You expressed it very well .

There is a reason that Slayer's punk covers album sounds great and authentic. That reason is because Jeff Hanneman was the punk essence within the band, and spent most of his formative years in the punk scene and writing punk songs/music. Also Idk who you listen to that makes fuck the troops music as opposed to anti-war music. Probably the single biggest anti-war album of the last 20 years featured an entire music video sympathetically highlighting the sacrifice and heartache of a teenager leaving everything he knows and loves to go fight in a war on the other side of the globe. I don't really see how turning Iraq into the breeding ground for ISIS and killing hundreds of thousands of civilians made anyone in America's freedom of speech safer.

To be fair, just because the core of military culture is built on a hierarchy and authoritarian tactics doesn’t mean all of us are bootlickers salivating at the idea of being ordered around. There’s a purpose to the logic in that environment and it doesn’t really translate at all in the civilian sector. And I’d probably argue most of us roll our eyes to anyone who 100% buys into that lifestyle.

From there, a friend and I started taking the piss, saying stuff like "he probably listens to this and fantasises about being in the military". But as time went on it got more and more absurd to the point we were saying shit like "He's getting dropped out of the ac130 whilst he's riding his flying harley, and he's carpet bombing Isis on his own. He even took out osama with nothing but a copy of 'War is the Answer' and an American flag baseball bat bless by Ronald reagan himself" etc

How do you grow up around punk music and culture and still have the most barebones, awful political opinions? It’s baffling to me lmao

I didn't mind Fred's cover but that robot voice deal really made me dislike that song, it probably would have been way better if none of that was added

Crossfaith’s cover of Omen (originally by The Prodigy) was a great genre crossing cover at the time.

I saw Vanilla Ice last summer and he closed with a straightforward cover of "No Woman No Cry" by Bob Marley. It was... fine.

5FDP sucks in general, so it doesn't surprise me to see them on a list of covers that suck. They have like 3 or 4 popular covers, and they all suck. Zombie is the worst IMO.

Should have put in there the multiple ''plugged'' the man who sold the world performances, with loud instruments it also sounded amazing

the Atari"s got a lot of radio play in my area when that song came out. but cuz its radio and radio does what radio does. they played THE FUCK out of it. Which got old, especially when u change stations and the Don Hennley version is playing. Man radio is and was a terrible format
