    I am happy you reconnected with David and Farmequipment, I did not know then before your early videos, but since them, I buy my tractor attachment with them and I had excellent after sale service. I like supporting good local companies and this is of them. Thanks to your you and your videos!

    Gord and Guy, as you pulled the logs I was reminded of Mike Morgan’s trick for keeping the dirt and gravel off the logs when pulling them since it dulls the blades. He had an old car/truck hood with a curve in the front and somehow pulled the logs on the hood. Just a thought. Cheers.

    Igland winches are made in my home country of Norway, I couldn't find any dealers in Montana. So I bought aTajfun EGV45A made in Slovenia. Great tools of the trade for firewood or getting logs for milling.

    Always good your video. This skidding winch is quite good but as everything, improving is always a work in progress. As you state it, reversible but plate is improved but I do prefer to have chain slot to be higher to pull larger logs without dragging them. Second, a 2'' hitch-receiver can be a nice add to this Skiddding winch. Nice to see Guy and you having fun. Be well.

  • @richardjacques6370

    GP, you are so spoilt. In the late 60’s early 70’s , we had access to about 100 hardwood power poles to use as fence posts. On average 30’ long and 18” diameter. They where all skidded with a Massey Ferguson TEA 20 on average 2 to 3 miles. Cut into 8 lengths some kept whole and the rest split into 4 sledgehammer and wedge no fancy toys. No post hole digger’s just crow bars and shovels.
    As they say the “ good old days “ no thanks I love modern technology. Have fun stay safe. 🇦🇺🍺🍺

  • @tfhummer
    @tfhummer ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A question but wouldn't it be easier to drag the whole tree up to the tractor, then cut it to length? Save hauling the saw and chains clear down the hill. Only need the winch line.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good morning and a great question. Yes it would. It was my first time with this winch and this tractor so i wasn't sure if it would pull it all or if the tractor would handle the weight so I figured I best take it in steps. Sometimes I now will pull a whole tree out, or depending on the situation, I will buck it into 16 foot lengths and then pull them out in pieces. Thanks for watching and for the q this morning!

    • @tfhummer
      @tfhummer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GPOutdoors well lately I've been too busy to keep up with all your videos, I know guilty as charged. I bought a 12000lb 3 point winch last year and the pto shaft for it will be in on the 30th then I will be the newbie figuring thing out. I ran across some old draft horse loggers and they used these drive in hooks of sorts instead of chokers. I'm guessing might have been easier than trying to get under the tree. Then if they cut them they would hinge/chain each bucked log length to another and that allowed the full length tree to snake its way around obstacles.

    That's pretty cool Gord. Don't know anything about log skidders. I'm assuming it has a winch that either "free-wheels" to spool out or uses the PTO to power the retract? Does the "remote" rope operate a clutch of some kind to engage the PTO?

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Morning Chris. Yes - exactly. There is a cable brake ( ratchet style) to stop the cable from spooling back out. Hope you are keeping well!

      Morning Jeremy. That's a good question - I don't think so. I am not sure whether I will use the top or not but not because of that concern but more that the force will be up higher on the back of my small tractor - it doesn't weigh alot. Thanks - great question!
