    As you leave Wilmington and get off the elevated tracks, you see the tracks to the right at "YARD." This was the Reading's old Wilmington railyard. They also had a roundhouse back further to the right.

    Tim, that "race" with the Amtrak train northbound approaching Wilmington was priceless !! You deserve an Academy Award for that one. The only way to properly get that awesome shot and do it justice was out of the head end of a Silverliner V. A side window shot of that scene would have been useless. And you know how I feel about head end shots vs side window shots. This one really proves my point.
    I wish the SEPTA engineer would have given the Amtrak engineer a little toot on the horn when he passed him approaching the Wilmington Station. That would have been classic. Regarding that "race", I assume that it was a rare occurrence and happened only because the Amtrak train was late. Doubtful it was a scheduled happening.
    At 108:00 on the time bar, the PA states Churchman's Crossing is a wheelchair accessible station. At 113:40, the station is low platform. Is that a ramp? If so, it's strange looking.

    When I lived in this area, I always felt that the stations from Darby to Crum Lynne were too close together, more like they'd be on a subway line. (SImilarly for the Media/Wawa line.) They seem to be more reasonably spaced on the Trenton line and all the ex-Reading lines. And that new Claymont station looks like overkill. What's wrong with the existing station? And I think they should add a station at Newport, DE.

    Just a little bit of History here. Between the abandoned Tower named Bell and Landlith back in the 80ies . Amtrak stored mostly all of the GG1's to be scrapped in the Wilmington yard. It was a sight to see . They say there for about 5 years. 😮

    After watching these videos, I really am struck by how old, decrepit, garbage everywhere, rust, graffiti America's infrastructure have become. Trains are slow. Tracks in poor shape. It's striking compared to other countries around the world. I wonder when upgrading will actually occur to modernize the system.

    Shame that MARC doesn't go to Newark. That would make a pretty seamless commuter rail service from Alexandria (or Fredericksburg) to New Haven without having to ride on Amtrak.

    • @chrishowell4845
      @chrishowell4845 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are quite right, and I would add I wouldn`t mind seeing MARC going all the way to Wilmington.......take MARC from DC to Wilmington, then switch over to SEPTA to make the trip to Philadelphia or Trenton, New Jersey to catch New Jersey Transit to New York City, followed by whichever commuter rail service runs to New Haven.......ALL WITHOUT AMTRAK!!!
