Bumble bee be getting busy 🐝 for some reason I’ve never thought of making someone who’s a swimmer also be a frog lol it’s so cute! I need a frog girl swim team
Yeah,👍 it's like it's just automatically a slightly different approach that gives a different result- then there all the things that are easy to do digitally that you might not bother with traditionally🤷♀️
Digital: your options and ability to fine tune down to the pixel, along with the ability to mimic mix media brushes to get any gradients you want Traditional: limited to physical items and space. Just a thought of possible reason
I had a phase (the pre-artblock phase) when i made 70 ocs, which i only drew once or twice (maybe 3 times) counting their design as a time i drew them. Then after artblock i ditched them all, made 3 and used those for 2 or so years
If you add a background color to the sketches you like (not even a detailed background, just straight pigmint) it really makes the page look more complete! I use this trick a lot. :3
Oh dude my sketchbooks are chaotic, on the SAME PAGE i will have a cute boy, a furby skeleton, a worm with a human face and a demon all in different art tools
I… I have too many of those.. Most of my characters are just ideas, without a design but with a completed backstory. But I designed a few OCs that are now forgotten. Maybe I should bring them back!
I understand your feeling of freedom with digital. I used to solely be a traditional artist for YEARS, and once I moved to digital, I felt that I could do anything. I think you feel more comfortable because you're not afraid that you'll mess up and you also have all the colors of the rainbow at your hand. You're able to go back multiple times to add and remove parts. So i guess it's just that you can keep continuously drawing on digital to get your idea down, unlike traditional where you have to keep erasing and you cant manipulate lines with digital tools.
i think it's because you've drawn digitally more often, your brain automatically thinks of the art piece in a "digital format", so that's why when you try to draw it in traditional it doesn't come out the way your brain saw it! i have similar problems since i do traditional art more often, and have harder time to visualize how things would look like in digital 😅
I know these characters don't relate to each other, but they kind of look like the beginnings of a youngster superhero group with Nema as their mentor.
Love Philomena's design and color scheme! I have so many OCs, and my oldest ones never seemed to have a backstory or anything, I would just draw them at random with their outfits and stuff, but now it seems like I'm trying to develop stories for the newer characters I bring in, and I'm trying to include my old ones best as possible so it doesn't feel like they're just abandoned
Seeing all your old artwork redrawn you can visibly see your improvement it amazing how much better your art skill have become just because of practice
Oh my goodness, I've been studying anatomy lately and I tried how you start your skeletons and it has made a whole bunch of lightbulbs go off for me. Its so cool how watching other artists do certain things can help so much
Sweet video Rin. I often felt like when I worked digitally there was much less pressure because of the undo function. Even scanning in my artwork I still had the original art to go back to if I had to. Traditional art methods are a bit more permanent and harder to erase a miscue! I am glad that you brought your older pieces out of storage, I believe that you have even more that you can bring into the light! See you next video!!!
I have hundreds of ocs, most forgotten, but I have six main ones. The first 5 are part of a group I called "The Emeralds" but they aren't anything special. I think I made most of them princesses, but all of them have unique magic powers. The last one changes, usually it's a sona, but right now I draw her the most. Other ones are usually for forgotten phases of my life or are characters I made for Skyrim. But I like to just, like, adopt any person I draw as an oc, then just leave them forever.
I have had dozens of comic ideas which a planned out but we’re abandoned before they started. My first (not counting the one I started when I was a kid and continued for a long time which is technically the first) was about these two girls where one was a ghost and the other got haunted and they eventually warmed up to each other and became friends
So, something I know on why things look different is because of the angle of your canvas you are using. For example, if you are drawing face on(digital) then you wont try to adjust to how you see proportion wise, but if you draw at an angle (traditional) then everything will be stretched out to fit how you see it from that angle! f you want to stop the drawing from an angle, one thing I suggest is an easel. Which you can buy or if you are brave enough, you can make one. If you buy one, I suggest buying one that will fit between your smallest and largest sketchbook sizes, as you can use a stiff square/rectangle for a larger canvas!
I imagine Nema of the Blubfish has no actual connection to the Blubfish, she just saw the character and loved it and so she's just like a fan of Blubfish.
Nice work! I like to redraw my characters every few years and update them… and updating their tech. I put them in a 3/4 pose front and back in an “ I’m a little tea pot” like pose. Hair style changes too … a lot! Thanks for your channel, it’s fun!
DrawingWiffWaffles: You know we all have done it, made and oc, put a lot of time into it, and *then completely forgot it...* Me: Stop calling me out😫 I know okay, *I know*
Loved this! I'm a fairly new watcher and I had no idea you were more of a digital artist than traditional artist. Honestly, I'm so impressed! Usually, people pick one and scorn the other (or at least find themselves very uncomfortable with it). The fact that you can do both is so awesome!
These videos give me so much motivation to draw- lately it's been hard to get back into it but the energy she brings and the way she draws just rly gets me into it💕
These were so much fun. You picked three amazing designs. Also, have you tried propping up your sketchbook, to see if that makes it easier to achieve the look you have in mind? If it's mostly the proportions that change between traditional and digital, the different angles seem the most likely cause.
I find it so cool that you redraw your characters at all! I tend to come up with backstory and personality traits (or at the very least an emotional state and maybe a sort of “essence” if that makes sense) for every character I draw, but I almost never redraw them. I don’t consider myself particularly good at drawing the same person multiple times, but I also don’t really try very often haha. I just find it so impressive that you put in that kind of effort and have that much patience, I tend to just keep wanting to make something I haven’t drawn in a while.
Just wanted to say that I like the videos when the audio isn’t recorded after but that you are talking when you are drawing better, since I think that feels more personal.
I’ve always felt like my drawings look different on paper vs digital, even when I draw exactly the same. So i embraced it so now I draw realism traditionally and cartoon-ish digitally
same! i feel like with digital art, even with special brushes, i never have as much texture as i can get traditionally. my digital art comes out way more simple, clean, smooth, and polished compared to my traditional art where i can have more precise details. its kinda stinky for me, since im still trying to find out what art style i want. but yeah, digital is definitely different than traditional.
great video, such cute ocs as well. what i love is revisiting the designs of ocs after more time and experience in art and drawing, its just so exciting!
It's always interesting to see your process as it differs so much from my own. It's a fantastic rhythm but it honestly gives me a bit of anxiety watching you draw the lineart AFTER coloring; I tend to think of lineart as the framework and the colors go after that. (Not a criticism, just a neat observation) Really love seeing the variations in traditional vs. digital composition as well.
At 10:47 you can see the traditional next to the digital renditions of Lily/Frog Girl side by side and honestly, Rin, they DO look the same person! I think the digital one looks like Frog Girl in her “prime” for lack of a better word (like, how you imagined her originally), and the traditional one would be her at like the brink of puberty, maybe at the end of a summer, like a growth spurt just hit and she’s starting to accept that she’s actually growing up. I LOVE YOUR ART and you inspire me SO MUCH and I’m gonna start practicing my own art more so I can be confident at drawing OCs in the future. And I paused the video to make this comment and now imma finish it ❤️❤️❤️
Hi! I’ve just got to say this, I live in Sweden and my mum grew up in Tanzania bc her parents were missionaries. Bc of that she named me Neema wich u problably know is a swahilian name. But growing up in Sweden I never heared my name being used so the fact that one of ur character scared my name (even tho its a blowfish fairy) means a lot ❤️
I think the reason you feel more comfortable using digital is because making mistakes aren't as big of a deal as they are with traditional. If you make a mistake with, for an example, the eyes in traditional you can't really change them anymore, but with digital you can easily redo them. Drawing traditional holds more weight to it with making mistakes, doing proportions and so on. Whereas drawing digitally you can erase your mistakes more easily, therefore making you feel more comfortable and free do to the vision you see in your mind.
imo, the whole "things look different digitally vs traditionally" is just cuz its a different medium! like, if you'd decided to paint instead of use markers, your process probably wouldve been a bit different, and the final product wouldve been different because of the unique elements and techniques the new medium allows!
When I noticed this video I was quite thrilled to finally watch another video from you. Twice. The first to pay attention then the second to draw with you. I then was like, "this sounds like a lovely idea! Maybe I should redraw my chara...wait.." Then I remembered I had over seventeen top used oc's. Keep up the amazing work! Looking forward to your next upload.
That whole being able to draw what you envision in digital than you do in traditional is something that I experience as well, it's very interesting phenomenon.
I just saw this on my recommended and was wondering why I didn’t see this ...hehe then I saw 4 mins ago *agressive click* also I rly loved the pink and purple character (edit: I meant Nema da blubfish fairy) soo I’m happy right now ✨😃🤩
I Can't believe I found someone else using the name Nema! I've had a character for ages Named that, and I thought it was so unique. I actually got the name from all my initials backwards, which is why I thought it was so unique. Tbf I was maybe twelve
You're the reason i found love for art again, I drew when i was younger and wasn't happy with a lot of my drawings because i felt i wasn't really good at it. For a while i didn't draw often and kinda just stopped for a long time and gave up, then close to this time last year i believe, i found your channel and got inspired and just wanted to draw again. I'm a visual learner so i realized somehow i got way better at drawing just from watching your videos and hearing your little tips and tricks and things, and i started drawing more often again and I've pretty much loved the majority of the art I've made since then and it's made me really happy, so thank you for helping find my love for art again
With the flipping the canvas problem with traditional. I remember at school they taught us to put a mirror next to art and look at it that way to check the balance. I suppose you could always take a photo and flip it as well? Love seeing these old characters again!

I remember those characters! I love when you redraw old characters, it's my favorite thing to watch and do, isk why lol
I've have been trying (and failing) to give an OC a rework so this is perfectly timed
what a fun coincidence! 💜
I’ve been watching you for a year or so and I just wanna tell you, Rin, that you are THE BEST artist EVER!!
The only reason I remember most of my ocs is because they're dnd characters so I'm always thinking of how I would play them
That whole being able to draw what you envision in digital than you do in traditional is something that I experience as well, it's very interesting phenomenon.
Saturdays without Rin is like waffles without syrup
Just for me....? OK...I'll- I'll just leave
the only waffle I can eat without syrup is strawberry. XP
I have tried a waffle only once, that too plain.

No.. Why can I agree more
I've never had a waffles before (T^T) but I can imagine what that feels like :')
@@sorokin8307 yeah I have :D
ooooh I really wanna try waffles now :0
This brought me so many memories! I remember when these were regularly drawn characters
Me who only draws the ocs and do the backstories one month later for every character: Ha, I am not affected by the intro! 😎😁
You are amazing I love your art and your style and frog girl was so cute
I just saw this on my recommended and was wondering why I didn’t see this ...hehe then I saw 4 mins ago
*agressive click* also I rly loved the pink and purple character (edit: I meant Nema da blubfish fairy) soo I’m happy right now ✨😃🤩
thanks! Glad you like her! 💜💜
I Can't believe I found someone else using the name Nema! I've had a character for ages Named that, and I thought it was so unique.
I actually got the name from all my initials backwards, which is why I thought it was so unique. Tbf I was maybe twelve
I can already hear the OG's awakening In the comments
cue the zombie hand bursting from the ground

Weird how much I care about my OC’s considering that they are literal sketches 🤣🤚

With the flipping the canvas problem with traditional. I remember at school they taught us to put a mirror next to art and look at it that way to check the balance. I suppose you could always take a photo and flip it as well?
Love seeing these old characters again!
FiRsT ahh I’m never this early time to grab my sketchbook ✨

Everyone has a frog carecter......no?😂
i haven't ever seen it proven wrong. XP
YEAA I SEE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THAT!! 😂😂
Lol😂 I bet on that.
I have yet to create one....
Ima do that now
Ha ha 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think with lily you could’ve done the signature squaring kids pose. It weirdly gives frög vibes too.
I feel like every character designer has draw a girl with a frog hat at least once lol these are amazing!!!
I really enjoy the new digital art you've been posting!!!
