Check out the plans here: www.thebencompany.com/store/p/ultimate-modular-workbench-plans What kinds of projects would you use this workbench system for?
I would love to have something like this for my art studio since I paint on flat surfaces. But how would you attach the top so that there are no screw heads poking through.
This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble th-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!
I'll be honest..I'm a old school guy..been wood working for 35 years now..I clicked on this to laugh at it..but I am humbled,,..this youngster is a natural at shop work..so..in conclusion I gotta say,,I learned something new and improved also damn cool..I'm a stubborn old prick who was impressed with your work..well done mate..I am gonna build 4 of these tables...I'm also now subscribed to your channel...I absolutely hate to admit it..lol..but,,yeah,,pretty damn cool...👌..btw..I agree peg board is garbage in my opinion...I hang my tools on French cleats....
@ChaseKayzer because these older generations have been doing things the same way for 30 odd years and a younger person comes along and tries to innovate design wise, the older generation then go there's absolutely no way it'll work because again for 30 years they've done everything the same way cause it works. All just comes down to stubbornness really and maybe a slight bit of envy for the fact they didn't try to innovate themselves. Don't get me wrong the old pros are great to learn the necessary steps to create a solid foundation though, just take a bit of creativity and easy access to the Internet for us younger generations have made inspiration much easier to find
Great book for a beginner . th-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ this book really starts from the beginning, as in it explains what basic tools are and how to use them. But when it gets to the art of creating joints and how and when to use them this book really starts to teach you something. At least that was my experience.
This is NOT a book for a beginner! DON'T FALL FOR Ted’s 16,000 Woodworking Plans SCAM! What do you get if you do buy it? something about 300 and 25 mm but to make it work in somewhere not-USA you maybe should try to find similar sized parts in more typical sizes... 2" x 4" would be something like 51 x 102 mm but here in Germany it's easier to get 40/60 x 80 or 60 x 100 mm 🤷 so I sometimes think about making a table of typical metric lumber with similar strengths then those imperial sizes 🤔 but maybe there is one and I just haven't found it yet 🤷
In UK we use feet and inches and CM mm meters.. confusing though having both if you get the wrong one or trying to compare things And one uses one and another uses the other! Lol 😅🤦🏻🏴🇬🇧
As a US citizen, it's difficult to argue that the metric system is definitely superior. The problem is noone around here thinks in metric, so you have to know both. I would petition for a shift to logical measuring standards, for sure!
Ive been a custom woodworker for 30 years, staying up to date with the latest tools in the trade and always looking for a way to improve the way i build. there are soooo many idiots who think they have what it takes to tell people how to build stuff on a you tube channel, usually i laugh at them and their primitive way of building. but not this time, you are intelligent and efficient. i say that because i built three of those tables about ten years ago in my garage!!!
Super simple builds with tons of modification potential. I built 4 of these over the weekend and they came out great. So great that I built 2 2x2 versions at lower heights to accommodate my miter saw and table saw. Any of my benches can now be an infeed or outfeed table for my saws. I selectively added the 3/4 bolt holes to the bottoms of the 2x2's and some of my 2x4 benches so I can add the 2x2's to the configurable bench mess. I'll be spending the next year reconfiguring the bottoms of theses benches to hold organizer boxes and tools! Thanks for saving me for the giant 4x8 rolling battleship bench Ben!
I just finished this building this workbench. I made the legs 28" long to accommodate my height and also so it will nest under my planned stationary workbench. I love it! Thank you for sharing your design.
I came for the ultimate french cleat system, i kept digging for more videos once i saw the corgi, i subscribed when you threw a ball at yourself. I appreciate the artistry.
This is exactly the kind of workbench I've been looking to build, thanks! One thing, though: You forgot to mention the importance of having two doggos in the workshop to keep you on track. Cheers! 🙂
Thank you!! I needed a mobile, flexible workbench for my 2 car Garage while I demo the old massive one built into one wall. This is so perfect, I hadn't even thought about a modulear design, going to make 3 of these and finally turn my wall into French cleat storage!! Bravo! Earned a sub!
i love it when your corgi came in and brought you a ball to play - obviously knew you were working hard! I like this idea - i always seem to need a new surface so modular works nicely. I'll probably try this for my 2nd project after i build a home for my table saw.
All of my tools are stored in 4'x2' benches I cobbled together from pallet wood. I have been playing with the idea of making carts that matched. Glad I watched this first.
Saved me a ton of pain. So i have this place being made availale to me to setup my workshop ...its tiny ... and i may be asked to vacate pretty much anytime .. This modular work bench system makes a lot of sense ... especially since the door is about 2.5 feet in width and the path leading to this small space is also mighty tight (and strewn with junk) PERFECTO DESIGNO THANKO !
I wanted a work bench and a bar in my garage and let me tell you, LET ME TELL YOU! You are a GENIUS! Out fucking standing brother. This is all I will be building with some customization for my bar unit. Thank you!
I have two workbenches in my very small shop (a converted 8'x16' carport) very similar to yours. They're identical and both on casters. Originally they we were open but I've since added a drawer unit and shelf to one, and a pullout shelf/tray to the other. I enclose both and added doors to keep dust out. They're the workhorses of my shop. I've also used them as trolly carts for lumber deliveries, and platforms for standing on to reach overhead storage items. As you so perfectly illustrate, the versatility of these kinds of workbenches is endless, and so useful. Thanks for the great video.
I've been wondering how to fit a workbench in my garage that wasn't too big. Somehow (thanks, Universe) I stumbled on this video and bam! Modular!! Thank you for a great video. I have faith I can do this on my own!! Problem solved!!
Wow, excellent. I may have the bodily issues that are unique problems, but over time, I found that the L-shaped desk is very useful if I'm sitting down. I'm not that tall (6'1"), but when I stand and work on a 30" inch desk, my back gets achy. The solution may be a custom build with maybe 40" inches height.
WOW! Just bought your Modular Workbench Plans. What a great idea for a universal, re-configurable work bench system! Your plan is well executed and easy to understand. I needed a work bench and was struggling to find a plan that was easy to build and would serve multiple purposes. Your plan hit all the marks for me. $15 well spent. Thanks.
This is the perfect solution for my new 12x13’ shop. I’m going to make one for my dewalt table saw and another for my miter saw. This way, they can be pushed against the wall when they are not use and then brought together in the middle of room to make an out feed table or whatever else I need.
Yeah this is good. I'm a disabled vet and do leather work currently for therapy and gift giving. I'm needing a workbench and the flexibility of these are good. I would probably do the french cleat and attach some magnets. Most of all my tools I like to put them on magnets for accessibility.
Dude, thanks! My dream became true... I will use the same method of your video... thanks for the lesson... god bless you and your cute dogs... cya and regards from Brazil
Thank you for sharing this build. It was Easy to build, and the size is very convenient. Made with leftover plywood and store bought 2x4's. I'm using mine as an "oil change station", and gave away two others to neighbors
And I forgot to say "Thanks" for the great design. This was my first project in trying to set up a small shop in the basement. AWESOME video instruction Even got my stepson off the video game as he was curious... Had him do ALL the assembly after I had all the pieces cut! Fun how bonding woodworking can be! Thanks again
Ben these are great mod tables and beyond easy to build. Appreciate greatly the thorough visual instructions, they're super helpful and well done to boot. I actually first just followed your video and it was all I needed to make these tables. I started w two tables and finished them up in about two hours, and I'm in the middle of doing some personal customizations to the tables to make them more user-friendly for specific things i'm using on those tables (table and chop saw stuff, belt sander, etc) When I finished them I was beyond pleased w the results, and am building a couple for my daughter's sewing/quilting room projects and she loves the versatility. Your skill and ability to convey what's needed and how then to use it all is WELL worth the $15 for the plans and anyone who builds one of these by following your instructions should send you $15. if they don't, "may the fleas of a thousand camels invade their pubic areas!" And one final word of encouragement and appreciation my young entrepreneur friend, I would have paid $20, so don't ever underestimate your worth again moving forward, Ben. You bring a LOT to the table, no pun intended, and you should be compensated appropriately for that expertise. My $15 was well spent, thank you.
This was an idea I was fooling around with for a modular table saw table to fit under my existing workbench. Thanks for thinking and demonstrating much more in depth than I thought previously.
LOVE this! We are building a new 36x36 garage shop that these modular work benches will be super usable and adaptable! My husband is a fly fisherman and needs a fly tying bench and I’m a gardener so I need a place to pot my plants!
I like the idea of this so much. I think I now have a direction to go for my workspace in the coming year! I currently have a few various sizes and shapes of workbenches, but it seems like it'd be really nice to streamline them. Make one shorter and mount my little contractor table saw on it so the top is flush with the normal height. Others can be ganged together as outfeed tables. Set up one with my shop vac and dust separator on the bottom shelf. Heck, maybe even a miter saw one with the saw set lower. Then I could gang together two or three as needed for long miter cut pieces! Moving things around that often, I might have to look into a quicker-to-use method of joining them. Bolting would be great when they're going to be joined for awhile, but moving them around a bunch, it might get cumbersome. Thanks for sharing this! Elegance in simplicity!
Thinking of building a couple of these, instead of bolts I'm thinking strong magnets and metal plates for connecting together and removable casters. Thanks for the ideas!
Built similar ones 20 years ago. Used magnets to connect. and yes make them as light as possible!Great plan , always interested in how others creat ideas for the shop 👍
Ben, I was so impressed with your modular work benches I bought the plans. Your plans were easy to follow and the project turned out great. Thank you, Alex😀
This is what I have been looking for, and I didn't even know it. I will make some slight modifications, but this basic design is nearly perfect. Thanks!
Hey! We get it! It's modular! 🤣🤪👍🏼 I had originally planned to do two 8'x2' carts to store against the wall in my single car garage and use as infeed/outfeed/assembly. I've been watching since the slab was poured and just hit the notification bell... oops!
I have two 8'x2' carts I built about a year ago. I've really struggled with them because of the length but at the same time I love having them for projects and they work great. After watching this video I'm going to convert them to this modular design.
Well done! I just built three of these for my garage at our house in town. Used left over treated 2x4s from an old deck for a pool I had to take down. Little bit twisted, and took a few more minutes to square up compared to new wood. Now to build out some shelves in them and bolt two together for an “L” shaped bench and one for a work table. I did use 5/8” plywood and it’s very strong. Bought your plans and will buy more!
Okay, well I saw this video and decided to buy the wood/screws/casters and build a few of these! I share our 2 car garage with my 11 year old son's Bandolero race car, I need something that I can wheel out of the way when I'm working on the car. I'm a mom that loves working on my son's car and woodworking :-)
Simple And Functionally Brilliant ! Thank you. Just thinking of using bolts and nuts to hold the legs to the trays so that each unit can be unscrewed for ease of transportation.
Purchased plans and built two of these yesterday. They are amazing and work great. Plans were comprehensive and the build went together fairly quick. Well the second one anyway lol
I made one of these today. I'm a little taller so I made the legs 32in each .... All said and done it is 37in off the ground and works great!!! For a novice it only took me about 1.5 hours to do and a wonderful upgrade to my garage
I built very similar modular work benches. Instead of holes and bolts to attach them I used adjustable latch clamps. If you are going to be moving them around a lot this is very convenient. I like the bottom tray concept you used as mine only have a center shelf.
Thank you for such a useful, fun video! I love seeing your dogs bringing their balls as you are working. :) While I could have worked everything out from this video, I just purchased the plans to support you! I am off to buy my casters now then off I go creating my modular workbench!! Being just 5'1", I will be making my legs shorter, but everything else should work out just perfectly! :)
Omg!!!!! I am completely blown away with these modular workbenches!! I just saw the plans on Etsy and saw that you are on TH-cam. I love all the options these give you. I am opening a small bakery. Sometimes I need lots of bench space, sometimes I need less. When I’m not baking, I can use 1 or 2 to display my packaged goodies. I also make and sell soap. I could make another set for my soap set up. Thank you so much for sharing this. I will definitely purchase the plans and refer to this video for extra help. Thank you!!! Much Love, Angela-Foxy Farm Coffee and Bakery!! Opening Fall 2023 🎉❤ 🦊
Hey Ben, just build your Workbench from this video. I used 6 cm x 12 cm for the frame (Not Amerikan 😅) and it is SOLID! Can‘t wait to finish my Workshop and use it for Projekts! Thx Man for the Idea!
I copied your "big ol' workbench" when I was first setting up shop in my 2-car garage a couple years ago. Within 6 months or so, I found it much too big for the space, broke it down, and turned it into 2 smaller workbenches. They still feel too big though, I think I might now copy you again and go with some of these. I'll probably also make a custom one that's the same footprint but has a lower shelf for my table saw to sit. Good ideas as always Ben, thanks!
Wonderful!! Wonderful!! Wonderful!! It's nice to see you back in the workshop! Loved the little one's cameo!! Great to see the "technical difficulties" again!! Great job Ben!! !! !! !! !! 👍👍⭐⭐👏👏👏👏
This is literally the exact same style bench I made a few years ago. Had a 4'x4' cart, and 2ea 2'x4' carts all at the height of my table saw. Ended up using clamps to hold them together. Problem I encountered was putting the casters on the corners as you did, they made contact when pushing it around with the benches held together. Ended up staggering a few of them.
I saw his placement of casters so close to the edge, and noted without him showing it, it’d be a win for not having an unstable rolling table when you put loads on it by itself, but wheels that rotate outside the bounds of the table I expected would be the problem you report.
Ok you talked me into it. I had been scouring YT videos for a good workbench that I can set up with a miter saw, table saw and a router table. With your idea I can make one "module" for each, plus a few bench only modules to make a full work area.
I really like the hole solution for connecting the benches. I've liked this style of modularity for a while(2x4 technology from Codename: Kids Next Door). Eye level racks could be added on the back using the holes for storage, tools or whatever.
Check out the plans here: www.thebencompany.com/store/p/ultimate-modular-workbench-plans
What kinds of projects would you use this workbench system for?
I have a one-car garage with the constant need to switch things around. This system is amazing! Thank you! Sold.
I would love to have something like this for my art studio since I paint on flat surfaces. But how would you attach the top so that there are no screw heads poking through.
@@nriqueog counter sink and optionally plug, or attach from the bottom with tabletop fasteners
I'm going to use them for outfeed table with my tablesaw to start then see where it goes from there
@@nriqueog pocket screws from the bottom?
This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble th-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. I think I’ve found the work bench I want to build! Now, what are these ‘feet and inches’ you speak of??? 😁🦘🇦🇺

How much did it run you per bench? I’m looking at making around 5-10 of these for a retail store.
These benches would be awesome for modular model railroad layouts! Awesome design!
Purchased your plans and built these about three years ago. Great carts. Super useful. Flexible. Great purchase.
I've been looking at countless videos for an outfeed/assembly table. I think this is the one! Entertaining video too!
I just finished this building this workbench. I made the legs 28" long to accommodate my height and also so it will nest under my planned stationary workbench. I love it! Thank you for sharing your design.
Boy that hits a sweet spot. No more than it needs to be but more than enough to serve the purpose. Nice.

Awesome job. Simple yet functional!
I like that old lathe in the back too. Nice piece of machinery 👌🏻
This solution is so simple it's genius! Mind officially blown!
Built similar ones 20 years ago. Used magnets to connect. and yes make them as light as possible!Great plan , always interested in how others creat ideas for the shop 👍
Thinking same about magnets. How well do they hold the tables together?
@@benjenkins2415 it took some experimenting , but they eventually work great and hold as I want them
Ben, I was so impressed with your modular work benches I bought the plans. Your plans were easy to follow and the project turned out great. Thank you, Alex😀
Ben, I made three carts and having a blast, I really love this, thank you sooooo much….
I made one and Im 67! Going to make another soon.
Just so clean and easy. Bought and printed. Heading down to the shop to take inventory, then off to the big box stores. o7
good camera/video skill. Very entertaining the way you present
This is what I have been looking for, and I didn't even know it. I will make some slight modifications, but this basic design is nearly perfect. Thanks!
Understated elegance. Just completed my first 3X6 mobile workbench. I wish I had seen this first. Thanks.
Thanks. Just grabbed a few 2x4s and used some scrap sheets in my garage and made this. I want almost everything in my garage to be on wheels.
It’s a great way to keep the space flexible!
Hey! We get it! It's modular! 🤣🤪👍🏼
I had originally planned to do two 8'x2' carts to store against the wall in my single car garage and use as infeed/outfeed/assembly.
Bought your plans and will buy more!
thank you! i bough the stuff today will build 2 this week i love that i can move them if i need to!
This video is pure gold!! Thank you!
Ya gotta love stupidly simple solutions to this TREMENDOUS need
Buying wood (and having it cut) at Home Depot. The hallmark of every fine craftsman.
GREAT JOB DUDE!! VERY ENTERTAINING EASY TO WATCH.
This looks like an idea I have been looking for for ages. I'll adapt the size to fit my requirements. But the old acronym comes to mind KISS.
You content keeps getting better, can’t wait to see where you go from here
Dodge ball professional!! Great idea for us who don't have much room!
Built my first one today, from old scrap laying around and HF casters! Thanks!
simple and very versatile great job.
love the french cleat organizer idea! Infinite options for storage bins, because you built all the bins for custom fit!
seriously love this and I've been researching making my first work bench and hands down this is the one I like the most!
Looks like a fantastically useful design, and best of all it doesn't take a ton of fancy tools or equipment to make and put together.
Enjoy all your videos but this one stands out for me. Very useful design. Thank you.
Hey Ben, just build your Workbench from this video. I used 6 cm x 12 cm for the frame (Not Amerikan 😅) and it is SOLID!
Can‘t wait to finish my Workshop and use it for Projekts! Thx Man for the Idea!
Made two of these for our smalls business, going to make a third to house my table saw also. Great video and thanks for the ideas :)
Thanks! This is great. Just built a 20x10 shed in my backyard this is going to be a great addition.
Wonderful!! Wonderful!! Wonderful!! It's nice to see you back in the workshop! Loved the little one's cameo!! Great to see the "technical difficulties" again!! Great job Ben!! !! !! !! !! 👍👍⭐⭐👏👏👏👏
Had fun building this home depot sold the top and bottom pieces exactly 2ft by 4ft in white birch plywood
This is such a simple, fantastic idea. Great job Ben. Immediate subscribe.
Ingenious, and within all wood-workers' capabilities, Ben. Seasons Greetings to you and yours.
BELLO E INTERESSANTE VIDEO.
BUONI SONO I VARI RISULTATI.

Nice job on these modular work benches. Thanks for sharing.
Just got a new shed and have been looking for the perfect bench and I think this one fits my needs. Great work and new subscriber
Excellent idea 💡 👏
I love how you can add on and arrange as needed. Definitely going to build a few in my new shop!
Great video. Very clever and practical. Love your dogs.
Very inventive project and video. Cheers!
so smart. thank you very much . i will try make a same one.
I really like the hole solution for connecting the benches. I've liked this style of modularity for a while(2x4 technology from Codename: Kids Next Door). Eye level racks could be added on the back using the holes for storage, tools or whatever.
Great video. Simple design. Thanks
the basketball toss deserved a like :)
