Warning to anyone intending to play with USBC to HDMI: These adaptors increase latency of the monitor output drastically! An issue no one ever really talks about. I tried various USBC -> HDMI on ASUS FA506 (2021) laptop. At 4K60, the latency in games went from 20 ms to +60ms, making games entirely unplayable. USBC to Displayport might be better, because USBC natively outputs Displayport, hence no conversion required.
USB-C port natively supports a whole bunch of signals including HDMI, VGA, Displayport, digital audio etc. Some people buy not cables that simply transfer native signal but active adapters in order to get 4K at 60Hz when their CPUs/GPUs only support 4K at 30Hz and of course in that case there will be some latency issues. But if your hardware supports 4K@60HZ and you bought a proper cable (the links in the description) there won't be any problems.
@@ElectronicsComputers Hey, thanks for your response! I actually tested seemingly active "adapters", like Lenovo USBC to HDMI. These required an additional HDMI cable to be plugged in. My GPU is RTX3070 Mobile with 4K60 support. So your recommendation is for me to buy a passive USBC to HDMI cable, and then there wont be any added latency? If so, that would really help me a lot.
@@ElectronicsComputers I have just tested a USBC to HDMI cable (no adaptor involved, passive) and it has the same issues. At 3840x2160, the input latency goes through the roof. I can not use USBC to HDMI in any way to play games at 4K. Latency with HDMI is 20 miliseconds, and with USBC to HDMI is 60 miliseconds.
Just bought a dell xps 13 (9305). Trying to hook it up to my dell u2713Hb monitor(s) via USB c to DP - they can't be detected even though they work with my old xps 13 via mDp to DP. The laptop with the same cable hooks up fine with a newer lenovo 24" monitor at work. Any ideas? Dell says I need to buy a USB c to DP adapter but that makes no sense as I am using a cable adapter.
I have a Samsung note 10 plus and I just bought a HP envy 4k monitor. I'm trying to connect my phone to use dex mode on my 4K monitor. The problem im having is I bought a USB Type C to 4k HDMI cable and on my monitor it's only letting me go up to resolution 1080p. You think if I get the USB type c to display port, would this help my resolution? To be used at 4k?
Have you tried to change it manually in Settings->Samsung Dex->Screen resolution for Samsung Dex? Also try to plug your cable into another HDMI port and also try to change resolution through the setting menu. I'd recommend using USB-C to Displayport in aluminum case that I used in the video. In that case you'll get 4K at 60Hz. Via HDMI 1.4 you'll get only 4K at 30Hz which is not good.
@@ElectronicsComputers I tried changing it manually. It won't allow me change the resolution any higher only lower. I return the previous cable I was using already. I tried looking for the one you used at store near my town. No luck unfortunately. I will order the one you used on your video right now from Amazon. As for changing the screen resolution on the monitor it won't let me, the only way I could change it would be via laptop like the example you showed. Thanks for the reply back 👍
@@ElectronicsComputers I've been looking at TH-cam videos all day today trying to find someone use their dex mode on a 4k monitor..it seems like nobody has been able or has tried to go higher on a 4k resolution monitor with their smart phone. This cable USB type c to displayport looks like its going to be my best try.
Nice video. I want to connect 2 external monitors, i have 2 usb c ports and one hdmi ports on my pc. Can I use one of these adapters/cables and one standard hdmi cable (extended display)?
You can use USB-C to Displayport cable and a regular HDMI cable. That's actually my current configuration. I have 27" Dell 4K monitor connected via USB-C to Displayport and 50" Samsung 4K TV connected via 20 feet HDMI cable.
I want to understand this a bit more. When you say it supports 4K60Hz, do u mean that is the maximum bandwidth which it could support? So if we run below the max, what other configurations could we set? Suppose I have an RTX 3070 which is fairly capable, could the current use case output say… 1440p at 120Hz/240Hz?
Awesome, this is what I wanted. Today I purchansed a 4k @60hz monitor and it doesn't have USB C. But laptop's HDMI is 1.4, so can't give 4k @60 Hz. Thankfully I have a thunderbolt port. So I will now buy USB C to Display port connector and I am done...........Hurree............ Thanks for the video mate.
Great video! My question is can this set-up be for a second monitor connected to a laptop? I have the LG Gram 17 and a 4k 60z monitor plugged in directly trough HDMI. I have a USB-C port and was interested in connecting my 2nd monitor through this port. Will this work? I am trying to avoid purchasing a docking station for financial reasons at the moment.
I got a question. I have a Monitor with 4K 60hz USB c, DisplayPort and hdmi 2.0 but my laptop doesn‘t have DisplayPort and only hdmi 1.4 and only usb 3.0 😞 is it possible to use an adapter from usb 3.0 to usb c and than a cable with usb c to DisplayPort to get 4K 60hz ? I‘m only getting 4K with 30hz and that’s not enough!
There's no any option for you. Actually, there are some adapters with external graphics card which work via USB 3.0 and they could run 4Kat 60Hz but it's super unreliable and you can't play or watch 4K videos using that adapter. Just for some office tasks and browsing.
Hi, I have Asus Zenbook UX310UQ - it has HDMI 1.4 and USB C. USB C to HDMI adaptors and cables are working fine upto 4k 30hz. Will this laptop support USB C to display port cable for 1440p 144hz?
@@ElectronicsComputers actually no. We have type c port with support thunderbolt 3 or not. Thanks anyway. P.S you don't answer me. Your laptop support thunderbolt or no?)))
Man i have a question, my parents bought an all in one pc that doesnt have displayport, hdmi, vga, Only usb 2.0. you know about some adapter or cable to connect to a monitor? The model of the all in one pc is compaq cq1-3007LA and my monitor is a aoc c24g1 144hz that has displayport, hdmi and vga. And also if i can connect this to my monitor, can i config windows to lets say 720p, 120hz? Sorry if my english is bad, im from panama
Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it. Yes, there are some adapters on the market which are basically external super slow USB graphics cards and it's so bad so can't even watch youtube, it works only for Word and Excel. And only USB 3.0 interface can achieve resolution up to 1920x1080, if you are USB 2.0 port (just like in your case), it just can be 800 x 600.
Hello and help! 😅 My notebook is a Dell Inspiron 5584, with just a hdmi 1.4. I want to connect it in my TV LG 4k, but not in 30hz. There's a USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Type-C) port as well. Is there any solution for me? An adaptor maybe? Thanks!
That USB-C port is data only and doesn't stream any video or audio. And HDMI port 1.4b also doesn't support 4K at 60Hz. There are some Chinese active converters that can fake the frame rate but they will never perform as good as real 4K video at 60Hz.
Hey, right now I'm looking into this but, I need help. I got a usb to hdmi adapter for my laptop, I used dual monitors on my laptop, I used tye good monitor 144hz on the hdmi, it's good. But the usb to hdmi monitor is 60hz. But when I use it. It's very stuttery.
How about if I want to use the cable the other way around. My second desktop has a dedicated graphic card, GTX 1050ti with Displayport and I have a new 4K monitor, 32 inch Gigabyte M32U that has a DP USB-C as well as one DP 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1. This monitor has a KVM function that I would like to use with the GTX 1050ti. But for the KVM to work, the source of my second PC needs to be DP USB-C Alternate mode. Will one of these cables work? Or, what cable do I need to buy to make it work? Thanks in advance!
I'm afraid that if you want the full functionality and features that USB-C provides, you need a USB-C connection on both ends and a USB cable that supports those features. I've seen cables on Amazon advertised as bidirectional, which we actually bought for our repair shop to test some devices, but none of them worked in bidirectional mode as advertised.
@@ElectronicsComputers Thanks for the reply, much appreciate it. Yes, that's what I thought. Just to test myself, I ordered a bidirectional cable on Amazon but like you said, it probably won't work, I can return it if it doesn't. With so many cables available on Amazon, I didn't know which one to get. Thanks again!
@@ElectronicsComputers Just an update post in case anyone sees your video and needs help. Well, the bi-directional, ie USB-C on one end to Displayport on the other end didn't work as I wanted to. I got video, but the KVM didn't function at all, it wouldn't recognize the mouse and keyboard on the second PC. Again, I had to order another cable from Amazon, a straight USB C to USB C 3.1 Gen 2 Cable-6.6FT-20Gbps Data Transfer cable since Gigabyte didn't include one with the monitor.. ... So far the KVM switch now works with this setup. Note, the mouse and keyboard are connected to the USB 3.1 ports of the monitor...There are 3 of them. Here is how I set it up: I plugged the USB C to USB C cable to PC#1 which did have a USB C input on the back of the MB to the USB C on the back of the monitor. This setup worked perfectly for the mouse and keyboard only, since I don't have video on a old first gen Ryzen 7 AMD processor I knew it wouldn't work for video. However video did work with when plugged to a HDMI on the GTX 1050ti graphics card and then to monitor for video. Mouse/keyboard working. Now PC #2 is plugged into the Displayport of the monitor coming out from DP source of the RTX 4090 with a typical USB3.1 B-Type cable coming from the monitor to PC 3.1 USB on MB port for mouse and keyboard functions. KMV now works as intended and can switch between two PC's I hope this helps anyone with the same situation as mine.
I have a dell inspiron 5570 with a hdmi 1.4 and a usb c 3.1 with display enabled if i buy a usbc to dp cable will it work at 1080p 144hz as it is capped at 1080p 120 hz with hdmi cable ?
When shopping for a laptop, how can you easily identify if the usb c supports DisplayPort 1.2? If they use thunderbolt 3, then they usually have the lightening bolt, but it’s really hard to tell, because a lot of laptops will say DisplayPort, but it’s version 1.1 which won’t do 4K at 60hz
I have laptop with HDMI port which support only 1080p resolution. Have a type c port but may its don't have display port functionality. Although my laptop processor support 4k. Can I use this cable to hook up 4k monitor?
At least tell me the model of your laptop. How am I supposed to know will it work for you or not without knowing the models of your monitor and laptop?
i have an acer nitro 5 an515-57-79td gaming laptop and i bought a 240hz 1080p gaming monitor but my laptop does not have a display port, but it does have a usb 3.2 type c. is it possible to get 240hz 1080p with a usb-c to display port?
Hi I understand this video is very old. The old laptop u have shown, is it normal typeC port with usb 3.0? Or is it thunderbolt? I've recently bought a 4k monitor and I'm planning to buy one of these cable. I've typeC usb3.0 port. But it's not thunderbolt. My laptop model is HP Pavillion 15 - CC053tx. Thanks
It doesn’t matter whether a USB-C port supports Thunderbolt or not. Simply having a USB-C port doesn’t guarantee it supports Alt Mode for video and audio transmission. Many USB-C ports, especially on budget laptops, are limited to basic data transfer. According to HP’s website, there’s no mention of DisplayPort Alt Mode support for the model you specified. Unfortunately, this means you can only use the HDMI port for connecting an external display.
Hi, I have typeC power delivery monitor(BenQ gw2485tc). Can I connect it to to my macbook through USB dock? Will it deliver power to macbook through the dock?
I have thinkpad m14t monitor and I want to connect that on my small pc to be displayed on m14t monitor.. Which cable I can use I tried many cables but no luck
Hi. Great video. I bought this cable to use on my Benq p3200U and connected tio an ASUS Rog with Nvidia Geforce 1080. I was able to get 4K resolution but only at 60hz. Both devices support up to 120hz. Do I have to change any other settings in the monitor or laptop to meke them work at 69hz? Any help will be appreciated.
That laptop has Displayport 1.2 which can provide 4K resolution only at 60Hz. Your laptop can drive only internal screen at 120Hz. Or you have to lower your external monitor resolution to 1080p to get higher refresh rate.
Sorry but I am not sure I understand what yu mean at the 04'mn ... are you saying that the USB C to HDMI models from QGEEM ae cheap (meaning low quality ?) ? on the contrary to the USB C to DISPLAY PORT ? Thanks by adavance.
QGEEM makes high quality cables and we never had any problems with them. I said that if you have a choice between a USB-C to Displayport and USB-C to HDMI cables then you have to choose the first option.
@@ElectronicsComputers I see. Thanks for the clarification. But then why the displayport is better than the hdmi version ? Also, what about the cable version versus the adaptaters version of these products ? I feel like the cable version is better since they doesnt require any additional cable (hdmi to hdmi) and maybe could be more reliable and durable because the design is more simple than the adaptaters.
Planning to buy an adapter, and I wonder if there is different between USB-C to HDMI or USB-C to DP when exporting 4K@60Hz. Is there any diff between adapter and cable? I'm using Macbook Air M2, thank you!
It can but it depends on the laptop. Some laptops have USB-C ports but they work just like a regular USB ports without video transfer. So what's the model of your laptop?
hello, I've seen that new premium laptops have HDMI 2.0 and Thunderbolt 4.0 ports. My question is, is it worth waiting for new laptops with HDMI 2.1 (if they ever place them), or is enough a laptop with one HDMI 2.0 + Thunderbolt 4.0 ports?
Great video, thanks! I have a Dell laptop Latitude L7300 with the following specs: 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8665U Processor Intel UHD 620 Graphics 1 x Thunderbolt™ 3 with Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1 x HDMI 1.4 I want to purchase and connect to a Dell U2720Q monitor. My questions are: 1. is my laptop capable to transmit 4K at 60 Hz to an external monitor? 2. will I get 4K at 60Hz on the external monitor if I connect it via Thunderbolt™ 3 to DisplayPort in the monitor? 3. will I be able to connect 2 external monitors of 4k at 60 Hz? maybe via dell deck WD15..? 4. The highest resolution I can currently pick is 1920x1080, will I have the option to choose higher res on the external monitor? Many thanks!
1-2. Yes, your laptop is capable of delivering 4K at 60 Hz to an external monitor via USB-C to USB-C or USB-C to Display port cable. I'd recommend using USB-C cable because that Dell monitor can power your laptop so no need to use your laptops charger. 3. The Thunderbolt 3 supports two 4K monitors at 60Hz you need Thunderbolt Dock WD19TB 4. The resolution you can select in your settings depends on the supported resolution of connected monitors.
Could i use Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort adapters instead of Wd19TB to connect 2 monitores? To save some money.. If yes, can you please recommend one on Amazon? Thanks again

Unfortunately, that's not the case. A fully functional USB-C port has more data rails than just regular USB data signals. It can transmit audio, video, Ethernet, etc. Even if your laptop has USB-C ports, it doesn't guarantee that it has those features. Some cheap laptops have USB-C ports, but they only transfer USB data. There are some external graphics cards that operate via regular USB port, but there are no reputable manufacturers who make them, and the overall experience with those devices is often terrible.
Thanks for this video. Do you know if the USB C port on the laptop is USB 3.1 gen 1, USB 3.1 gen 2 or Thunderbolt 3? Or, do you know the exact model of the laptop and I can look it up. Thanks
The reason I ask is, I have a Lenovo ideapad 5 on order and the specs say Display port over usb c but states 3840x2160 30hz max. It is usb 3.1 gen 1. You can see here under specification tab. psref.lenovo.com/Product/IdeaPad/IdeaPad_5_15ARE05
Technically and standard wise it shouldn't be like that. We don't know how they performed that test. If they used adapters or a dockstation the 30Hz i quite possible but if you'll use a proper USB-C to Dispaly port cable which deliver native video signal I'm pretty sure you'll get 4K at 60Hz.
2013Electronics&Computers Thanks for the advice. I think you are right but there seems to be mixed information regarding USB 3.1 gen 1 and whether it can support 4k60hz. My next problem is that the charger is usb c so think I will need something like this to charge at the same time: Type C HDMI Cable with 60W Power Delivery 4K@60Hz,CHOETECH Thunderbolt 3 HDMI Cable(6ft/1.8m) for 2017 MacBook Pro, iMac, MacBook,Galaxy S10/S10+/S9/S8, Note 10/Note 9/Note8,Huawei Mate 30/Mate 20,P30 www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B078JZMR9L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_r0PREbET2SM0N
Super valid question! I'd like to know the same information too, whether the USB C port is gen 1, or gen 2. And if it was USB 3.2. I've got an Acer Swift 3 (USB C 3.1 gen 1, up to 5 gbps) and was wondering if these cables would solve the absence of a HDMI 2.0 port. Any update on whether you managed to get 4K 60fps over your Lenovo Ideapad 5's USB C, 3.1 gen 1?
Hi, my laptop is an Acer Aspire S13 with usb3.1 type c is "data transfer only" and HDMI, is there anyway to get 4K 60hz with my new Lenovo Thinkvision P27u-10 4k monitor? If not, do you know any another way, HDMI 2.1 or something else? I'd like to find a solution for my photo editing, having a 1920X1080 resolution on a 27" isn't great! I hope you can help! Thank you for your great video
Unfortunately, there's no solution for your model. Acer decided to save a few bucks on this model and USB-C port is not fully functional on this model even though the chipset supports Displayport.
im still a bit confused, so if i were to purchase a normal type c to hdmi cable and connect my laptop to a monitor does it display 75hz at 1920x1080 resolution and charge my laptop simultaneosly?
Only USB-C to USB-C is capable to deliver power and video signal. USB-C to HDMI cables don't support power delivery. What's the model of your laptop and the monitor?
So if I can get a laptop (similar to the one you have used), and connect it to a second monitor which supports 4k@60fps through display port, can we play 4k movies/videos without any stutter in the second monitor?
I have LG 4K monitor (Model lg-27UL850-W) and Lenovo laptop (S540-15IML Laptop (ideapad) - Type 81NG). The laptop has USB-C without video output, and HDMI 1.4b. Hence, only option to connect monitor is HDMI cable. If I choose 3840×2160, I can get max 30hz, which isn't look good on 27 inch monitor. If I go with 1920x1080, I can get max 60hz. My laptop has Displayport 1.2 and USB 3.0 (normal not mini). My 4K TV had HDMI 2.0. The TV supports 4K at 60hz. Is there an adapter where I can get 4K at 60hz from my laptop to my TV? Thanks.
You need an active adapter Displayport 1.2 to HDMI 2.0. You'll never get HDR with that cable and the overall experience with those adapters is questionable. But anyway, here's what you need: ali.pub/5pgwo4 amzn.to/3e5SoZ4
Such cables do not provide power to the laptop. To do that, you need to use a USB-C to USB-C connection, and your monitor must support the power delivery feature.
so if I plug a USB-C hub (with a displayport) into my laptop so I can run a displayport monitor (my laptop does not have a displayport), will it run it? or will it depend on more than just whether the laptop has a USB type C port? such as the motherboard in the laptop. or must the laptop have a thunderbolt port?
haven't got it yet. but try to figure out if the laptop has a USB-C port (w display port) how many monitors I could potentially run through it. was looking at the gateway ultra thin notewook l5-1135g7 with built in intel IRIS XE graphics adapter. it has a USB-C port. I'm using a laptop (Lenovo X1 carbon 5th generation) connected with a ultrawide monitor(C49RG90). My target setup is 5120*1440 at 60Hz on the monitor. My laptop supports usb-c (3840@60Hz) and my monitor provides displayport v1.4 (5120@60Hz). Here is a question. If I use the cable (usb-c to dp) from Qgeem in your video, then do you think it works for 5120*1440 at 60Hz?
I'm 99% sure that it will work with 5120*1440 at 60Hz. That cable is a passive device when it comes to video signal. Which means if both devices (monitor and computer) support those specs then it will definitely work.
My predator acer monitor xb321hk has DisplayPort 1.2 but my graphics card asus rog 2080 super is DisplayPort 1.4. The question is when I try to plus my old DisplayPort 1.2 cable to the back of the card it didn’t fit the hole. Do I have to get a cable that is 1.4? Since my monitor is 1.2 it should just show me what my monitor can display right?
All display ports have standard connectors. Maybe your graphics card has a mini Display port? Look at this image: images.techhive.com/images/article/2013/03/displayport_cables_1160-100028851-large.jpg Standard left and mini right.
Hello :) Thank you for the video explanation (2+ years later) and very comprehensive replies to comments. I was scrolling through the comments to see if someone already posted the same question. However, I still have a slight doubt whether or not the integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics card can run the 4k at 60hz My Lenovo ThinkPad L590 (20q700aqcx) has Intel i5 8265u processor, Intel UHD 620 graphics card, 16gb of RAM and 512gb SSD. The laptop has only 1xHDMI 1.4 meaning it's limited to 4k 30hz. Manufacturer says that 2x USB-C ports are: -1x USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 (support data transfer, Power Delivery and DisplayPort™1.2) -1x USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 (support data transfer, Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.2)* *Depending on many factors, actual data transfer speed may be lower than theoretical speed'' and they claim on paper that it can run the 4k at 60hz. Could it still be possible to get the 4k 60hz from that Intel UHD 620 using a USB-C>HDMI2.0 cable converter? I will be able to test this live in 3-4 weeks. Thanks in advance for the response and happy New year. :)
Your laptop 100% supports 4k at 60Hz via Displayport. If your monitor has only HDMI port then it's only possible by using an active converter. You need a Qgeem USB-C to HDMi cable in aluminum case. The links in the description. I've tested that cable on some old laptops and it worked perfectly. But again the best solution is a monitor that has USB-C or Displayport input.
Thanks for the video , have you experienced any flickering while using it? Sometime when i play games , the screen goes black like off/on for 1sec. I am not sure if this is because of the cable quality or the GSync feature . My monitor is Asus VP28U model. Thanks.
Hi , I have a RTX 2080 on my desktop and a LG C1, I need HDMI 2.1 in newer cards for 4k 120hz Can I use a high quality usb c to hdmi converter and use a hdmi 2.1 cable and get 4k 120hz with gsync enabled on my 2080? Really need Gsync and can't find an answer anywhere Thanks !
Gsync is not gonna work with converters and you'll never achieve the same performance with any adapter as you would with the direct connection via Displayport or HDMI cable. USB-C to HDMI adapters have active components inside and they just may fake the resolution and FPS. This is one of the best adapters at the moment: amzn.to/3ELEnvk

hi i have a display port on my monitor and a hdmi port on my laptop. with a cable can i connect the two with the display port or there is nothing that i can do?
If your laptop only has an HDMI port and your monitor only has a DisplayPort, your options are quite limited. The most viable solution, aside from replacing your laptop, is to use an adapter like this one: amzn.to/3X9mW2o It's an active adapter powered by a USB port. However, such devices are often unreliable, and if you plan to use it for gaming, the experience might not be smooth or enjoyable. But at least it will get the job done.
I have a legion laptop and i want to connect it on my external lg gaming monitor that is 1440p 165hz does this gonna maximize the performance of my monitor? I try to plug it on hdmi maximum refresh rate got limit to 144hz and gysnc dont work hope you can answer my question thankyou!
Hello, thanks for the great video. My laptop (Dell Latitude 7410) has a "USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port with DisplayPort". If I connect that to a USB-C hub, can it drive two 4k monitors at 60Hz (extended display)? The monitors have inputs for Displayport 1.2 and HDMI 2.0. Thanks!
It won't work like that. USB hubs only for USB data. Not a single monitor will work through a USB hub. It's possible with the Dell docking stations in case if a laptop supports Thunderbolt interface. But from what I see, your laptop doesn't have that feature.
@@ElectronicsComputers Ok thanks for confirming. The laptop supports the DisplayPort over USB protocol. I didn't realise none of the USBC hubs supported that.
Hi, nice video, if i connect the laptop to Monitor Through the USB-C port, Would it handled 4K 60 hz with HDR? i read that usb-c alt mode only supports up to 1.2 Display Alt Mode, not 1.4, i hope you can answer me, thanks in advance!
Nice video, I wanna get the new Huawei matebook 14 2020 ryzen model but I'm not sure if it's USB port can handle 60hz on a 4k display. I asked them what is the specification of the usb c port because I've read somewhere that 5Gbps speed is not enough to do 4k 60hz, it needs to be up to 10Gbps. They said the specification of the USB C port in the laptop is " USB 3.1(Max 5Gbps,the actual transmission rate is related to the third-party device USB-C used by the user.),and DisplayPort(max 4K@60Hz) ". I'm quite confused with this as they said the speed is only 5Gbps max but hey also said DisplayPort(max 4K@60Hz). How can it output 4k 60hz if the speed is only 5Gbps? Does that mean the speed isn't related to the display output? Does any usb c port can handle 4k 60hz? I just really want to know if the laptop can do 4k 60hz on an external 4k display. Do I really need to use Displayport to USB C to get 4k 60hz or does HDMI 2.0 cable to usb c also do 60hz 4k? Would really appreciate your help.
USB port speed has nothing to do with Displayport or HDMI signals. USB-C port has a bunch of terminals which transmit different signals. USB-C ports of some cheap laptops can transmit only USB data and some laptops can also transmit native Displayport and HDMI signals. So make sure that your laptop has Dispalyport 1.2 or higher.
@@ElectronicsComputers I see, thank you so much for your response. Because they mentioned that the USB-C port in the laptop is "USB 3.1(Max 5Gbps,the actual transmission rate is related to the third-party device USB-C used by the user.),and DisplayPort(max 4K@60Hz)" I think the bit where they mentioned "and DisplayPort(max 4K@60Hz)" means it is capable of 4k 60hz on DisplayPort Alt Mode. Is that correct?

Hey i have a question Laptop is lenovo thinkbook 14 gen 2 with i3 gen 11 + mx450 nvidia It seems my main hdmi doesnt go directly to igpu and therefore making the nvidia control panel nit detecting external monitor even though i got hdmi 2.0 cable, hdmi 1.4 laptop port, hdmi 1.4 monitor port Which now my 100hz monitor is capped at 60hz There are two ports which are usb c gen 3.2 wnd thunderbolt 4 port Most people said and i would lime to hear your opinion, that usb c ports goes directly to egpu So can i use usb c thunderbolt 3 to hdmi cable and use it to finally able to use 100hz? Thank you
If you're talking about 4k at 100Hz, then it's impossible with HDMI 1.4. I really doubt that even 1080p is possible on that laptop via HDMI. The first USB-C port (close to the display) has DisplayPort 1.4 support which theoretically can handle 4K resolution at up to 120Hz. So if your monitor has DP port then all you need is a USB-C to DP cable. Just like the one I used in the video. USB-C to HDMI cable/ adapter will have still the same specs as the dedicated HDMI port. There are some HDMI adapters on the market, that can fake resolution, but in reality it's still gonna be the same 60Hz refresh rate.
@@ElectronicsComputers seems alot of people agreed that hdmi connect mainly to igpu while thunderbolt can direct connect to egpu I'm ordering one thunderbolt 3 to hdmi 2.0 cable as of now i hope it will work And why not usb c to display port? Because my monitor had hdmi port only So this will cause extra conversion as the cable had 1.4 dp potential, and gets converted to hdmi And btw thanks for replying

It is possible to convert USB 3.0 (Type A) to DP for ultrawide monitor 3440 x 1440 pixels resolution? Will Windows 11 laptop able to show up this resolution?
Unfortunately, it's not possible. A standard USB Type-A port only includes USB data lines, whereas a fully functional USB-C port contains not only USB data lines but also audio, video, and Ethernet capabilities.
@@ElectronicsComputers Reason I asked is because I saw Wavelink has a product (but it is expensive) to convert USB 3.0 to Display Port or HDMI 2.1 to get higher resolution of an external ultrawide monitor. I think it has its own GPU within the adapter. But then the PC board is still USB 3.0
Yes, that's correct. Many active USB adapters contain a basic GPU chip inside. They're suitable for simple tasks like displaying graphs from trade markets on multiple screens or performing basic text-related work. However, they may not perform well for graphics-intensive tasks or even watching videos and they often don't last long.
My laptop has one thunder port and one hdmi port. Could I use an HDMI cable to one monitor and then one Thunderbolt/HDMI cable to the other monitor so that I have dual monitors?
USB-C is a universal interface that can combine several technologies into a single connector. When used to connect a monitor to a laptop, it can operate in alternate modes, such as DisplayPort Alt Mode or HDMI Alt Mode. In terms of video quality and performance, there is no difference between using a USB-C connection in these modes and using a traditional HDMI or DisplayPort cable, as they carry the same video signals. However, USB-C offers additional features beyond just video transmission. For example, it can provide power delivery (PD) if both the monitor and laptop support this feature, allowing the monitor to charge the laptop without needing a separate power supply. USB-C can also support other functionalities like data transfer and audio, making it a versatile and convenient option. In summary, USB-C can carry the same video signals as HDMI and DisplayPort while offering extra features such as power delivery and data transfer capabilities, making it a more flexible solution.
There are some HDMI to Display port cables that can fake it and your monitor will think that 4K@60hz is a real signal. But the video quality still will be the same as at 30Hz.

Can you explain why the port in your computer says “D” which means it is a mini display port but you call it USB-C ?
First of all, Mini Displayport two times bigger than USB-C. In my case this is USB-C 3.0 port with Displayport 1.4 support.
Yes. It can output any refresh rate, but at 4k no more then 60hz
could this cable be used to create daisy chain for 2 monitors ( 1 monitor have USB C and other monitor only have HDMI/Display Port ) ?

That USB-C port is data only and doesn't stream any video or audio. And HDMI port 1.4b also doesn't support 4K at 60Hz. There are some Chinese active converters that can fake the frame rate but they will never perform as good as real 4K video at 60Hz.

Here is how I set it up:
I plugged the USB C to USB C cable to PC#1 which did have a USB C input on the back of the MB to the USB C on the back of the monitor.
KMV now works as intended and can switch between two PC's

You can do whatever you want with that cable. Displayport is more preferable than HDMI but again it depends on your laptop model.
I have one question will this charge the laptop as well or do I have to plug the charger as well
Such cables do not provide power to the laptop.

Hello :) Thank you for the video explanation (2+ years later) and very comprehensive replies to comments.
I was scrolling through the comments to see if someone already posted the same question.
However, I still have a slight doubt whether or not the integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics card can run the 4k at 60hz
My Lenovo ThinkPad L590 (20q700aqcx) has Intel i5 8265u processor, Intel UHD 620 graphics card, 16gb of RAM and 512gb SSD.
The laptop has only 1xHDMI 1.4 meaning it's limited to 4k 30hz.
Manufacturer says that 2x USB-C ports are:
-1x USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 (support data transfer, Power Delivery and DisplayPort™1.2)
-1x USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 (support data transfer, Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.2)*
*Depending on many factors, actual data transfer speed may be lower than theoretical speed'' and they claim on paper that it can run the 4k at 60hz.

Gsync is not gonna work with converters and you'll never achieve the same performance with any adapter as you would with the direct connection via Displayport or HDMI cable. I'm quite confused with this as they said the speed is only 5Gbps max but hey also said DisplayPort(max 4K@60Hz). How can it output 4k 60hz if the speed is only 5Gbps?
Does that mean the speed isn't related to the display output?

USB port speed has nothing to do with Displayport or HDMI signals. USB-C port has a bunch of terminals which transmit different signals.

My laptop has one thunder port and one hdmi port. Could I use an HDMI cable to one monitor and then one Thunderbolt/HDMI cable to the other monitor so that I have dual monitors?
It depends on the laptop model but in most cases it will work. What's the model of your laptop?
Hey man um if you have a monitor that has 120hz do you play on 4k and 120hz or just 60hz? Pls reply
It depends on the specs of your HDMI or Displayport. In most cases it will be just 60Hz.
Does usb c used the laptop's and monitor's full potential or is hdmi still better?
Can this usb-c to hdmi cable be used for hdmi arc port on a sound bar?
No, ARC works only with HDMI to HDMI cable.
What about an ACER with only a regular USBC , and a HDMI 1.4. Is there a way to get that to do 4K@60hz
There are some HDMI to Display port cables that can fake it and your monitor will think that 4K@60hz is a real signal. But the video quality still will be the same as at 30Hz.
