David Greco. Just amazing. You are a genius combining a magnificent instrument with a stellar technique and creating unrelenting and haunting atmosphere. Bravo.
What power art thou? Who from below Hast made me rise? Unwillingly and slow From beds of everlasting snow! See'st thou not how stiff And wondrous old? Far unfit to bear the bitter cold... I can scarcely move Or draw my breath I can scarcely move Or draw my breath Let me, let me Let me, let me Freeze again... Let me, let me Freeze again to death!
I've listened to all versions from Nomi to Orlinski but this is the one that touches me. King Arthur rising from his ' sleep ' to save Britain would have this voice!
302 subscribers to this man.. How on Earth.. Beautiful and sublime. This resonates with me so deeply that I'm not sure how the length would be in description. I don't know if you'll ever see this David Greco, but thank you, and thank you for sharing your talent and beautiful voice with a damaged soul.
Thank you affording us access to this incredible and moving piece. I must see this production one day - I've been so moved to tears even as I type this.
Wonderful and deeply emotional aria with a profound bass voice. This version was used in the "El Conde" (The Count) movie at 05:30'' and creates an awesome climax at the beggininig of the story.
My sheet music says "largo," so I'm not sure how done this quickly is "sensible," but it's possible that "largo" is not from Purcell but was added by an editor. I think I wrote 52 quarter notes a minute for an accompanist, and it's written in 8/8.
I keep coming back to this version. There's much debate in the comments about whether the song should be faster (like shivering) or slower (like thawing). I always imagine creaky, jerky motion, like people when they're frozen stiff and their joints hurt to move. I think this one is the best version I have found to combine skill, expression, and visuals.
Yeeah. I know this masterpiece for a while and that's it, the version I was dreaming about. Modern Baroque, the rhythm is terrific, it's a Hit. Henry Purcell Composed this 2 minute Ultra Masterpiece in 1690's. Thank you to all of you.
Magnificent! With all due respect to the higher registers that have sung this aria, they're not the same. Purcell wrote it for the bass voice which is where it belongs.
I'm thrilled! Is there a full opera recording somewhere on the web? The following solo "Thou doubting fool" and duo "Sound a parley" are so beautiful. I'm very interested to check the interpretation)
I've heard this song in so many versions and the beauty and depth is always the same. During a period of my life, I highly felt this song in terms of feeling nothing I guess. Very deep and beautiful.
i fell in love with this aria the moment i heard it. and you are the first one I listened to . blessings .. i would like to ask your permission if I can use a small fragment of this video in one of my videos that am preparing for educational purposes as a reference, and i will absolutely add thi link in the comment section. anyways, thank you.all the love and best in everything you do .
One day I'm going to have a serious word with Frances for causing poor Henry's untimely death by locking him out in the cold on that fateful night when he returned home too late from the theater. 😤Shameful!
English Baroque - it's awesome but didn't last long because Handel moved to England and crushed it. Purcell is the peak. Try Dido's Lament or In Guilty Night.
This is beautiful but... I prefer the version of Klaus Nomi in one of his last presentations in Allen Ehren ... He had been informed a short time ago that he was ill with AIDS, the feeling that he gave to that interpretation is simply impressive !! A true wonder !!!
How can I call myself a 50 year old musician and yet have never heard this before. Absolutely stunning! (Play it a 0.75 if you think it's too fast)!
Scholl actually has a similar pace (a little slower, depending on the recording). -- His version is countertenor though, not bass.
@ Andrew Perry: Don't worry, you are not the only one... :-) I just joined the club. :-)
Purcell has a number of wonderful operas, which are unfortunately unknown for most of the people. The Tempest, King Arthur, Fairy Queen...
Good Suggestion,thanks🙏🏽
How could I wander and be aloof from this phenomenal piece... Am 41+
Purcell is a genius! This is an extraordinary deep bass interpretation!!
That aria was written for bass singers. So, interpretation is countertenor performance

My first time was Naomi too, long time ago. Since ,I heard so many versions and voices...still great
.
Andreas Scholl
.
I hate listening to the girl men sing this aria. Greco does a great job
Brilliant - piece, performance . . . setting - everything. Bravo, bravo a tutti!
What a powerful and deep voice !

Fantastique interprétation. La voix de basse sublime cet air célèbre.
A great performance and a beautiful voice! Bravissimo!
Absolutely perfect!
Meravigliosa la voce del basso, che si aggira nel freddo cinto solo da una cappa...espressivo e toccante il suo canto
What a glorious voice!! Absolutely delightful! Thank you so much!
This is ART !
Woua ! Magnifique interprétation. J'en ai des frissons ! Une interprétation fluide, grave, et glaciale j'adore
Wonderful singer, voice and talent. Thank's and your video are superb 😀
What a wonderful sound!
Wow. I love this version!!!! So beautiful. Thank you.
Beautiful and touching.
Thank you affording us access to this incredible and moving piece. I must see this production one day - I've been so moved to tears even as I type this.
Ottima interpretazione!!!Bravo David Greco
Thank you very much from all my musical family! You are the real musician!
Wonderful and deeply emotional aria with a profound bass voice.
This version was used in the "El Conde" (The Count) movie at 05:30'' and creates an awesome climax at the beggininig of the story.
This for sure one of the most beautiful and epic things I've heard. I neeeed to sing this!
Incredible talented baritone, completely absorbing by a supreme technical concentration…your voice is like deeply shiver
At last, a sensible tempo. And sung by a bass.
The Gerald Finley version I think is the most gorgeous: th-cam.com/video/9AB08-lz6os/w-d-xo.html
And here my first thought was, "Nooooo, too fast!"
My sheet music says "largo," so I'm not sure how done this quickly is "sensible," but it's possible that "largo" is not from Purcell but was added by an editor. I think I wrote 52 quarter notes a minute for an accompanist, and it's written in 8/8.
Pro trick : watch series on flixzone. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies lately.
@Brodie Gus Yup, have been watching on Flixzone for years myself :D
love the place tooo ! looks really cold out there
Qué interpretación! La mejor que he escuchado. Maravillosa voz. Profunda. Gracias.
La meilleure interprétation qu'il me fut donnée d'entendre !
Wow!
Wonderful
Magnifique !❤
Brilliant!
Wonderful!
Captivating ! Mesmerising!!!!
Wow ¡¡ mágico, especial simplemente único, gracias 🙏🏽
stunning, love it.
Beautiful!
I heard also many versions and this is one of the best. The lyrics resonate today with COVID..."I can scarcely move or draw my breath"...
Love this❤
Much better than later-popularized countertenor versions.
Auf jeden fall!
.
I hope for Andreas Scholl
you would make an exception .

This has been my favorite interpretation that I've heard so far. Holy balanced onsets batman!
Bravo 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The Baroque period gave us so much great music
Yeeah. I know this masterpiece for a while and that's it, the version I was dreaming about. Modern Baroque, the rhythm is terrific, it's a Hit.
Henry Purcell Composed this 2 minute Ultra Masterpiece in 1690's. Thank you to all of you.
Best version I've heard.
.
Andreas Scholl ?
.
sehr gut dirk
I would like it slower. However, you're now one of my favorite singers.
I like it faster it makes a different kind of experience while still keeping its true to the song, in a sense.
It's correct this way - it's the slow version that's a different kind of experience. When its slow you miss the sense of shivering in the cold.
Браво !!!
Amazing!! And what a fantaaaaastic video!! who did it? who had the genious idea? fantastic voice, genious acting, love it!!!
This is an amazing music video! I wish I could make a video with my singing!!
Immenso
Maravilhoso!
Magnificent! With all due respect to the higher registers that have sung this aria, they're not the same. Purcell wrote it for the bass voice which is where it belongs.
Wundervoll
I'm thrilled! Is there a full opera recording somewhere on the web?
The following solo "Thou doubting fool" and duo "Sound a parley" are so beautiful. I'm very interested to check the interpretation)
Jakub Jósef Orlinski - Purcell - King Arthur - Air du Froid
Orlinski and
Andreas Scholl
are wonderful ❣ ♡
I've heard this song in so many versions and the beauty and depth is always the same. During a period of my life, I highly felt this song in terms of feeling nothing I guess. Very deep and beautiful.
Powerful! Geil!
Wow instrumental
YESSSSSS!!!!!!!❄️🌨❄️💨
¡Precioso! ^_^
Тренажёр для диафрагмы!))
A man's voice at last! Not the falsetto g*** boys I heard before
My favourite, thanks for posting
Wonderful performance - but sad that the Cold Song is nearly always cut off from the beautiful resolution that follows and the exquisite duet.
where can I buy this beautiful version in high quality sound?
hoo my Lord !
i fell in love with this aria the moment i heard it. and you are the first one I listened to . blessings ..

Go for it!
Many thanx, that means a lot 🙏💜
@@christinae8062 No problem - as long as its not for TH-cam and educational only 🙏x
♥️👏👍
I’ll play this during my next 2-minute cold shower
🖤
One day I'm going to have a serious word with Frances for causing poor Henry's untimely death by locking him out in the cold on that fateful night when he returned home too late from the theater. 😤Shameful!
What is the name of the ensemble, please?
Please add subtitles with the text that he is singing. Because of the way that it is sung, it is impossible to understand.
what kind of classical style is this? i love it
baroque
English Baroque - it's awesome but didn't last long because Handel moved to England and crushed it. Purcell is the peak. Try Dido's Lament or In Guilty Night.
Pourquoi n'avez-vous pas cité les instrumentistes ?
Much better to hear a bass as King Arthur than those awful counter-tenors squeaking away.
Nomi was awful indeed.
Andreas Scholl does it beautifully .
slow to 0,9 is amazing
Sounds so tragic. I will choose it for funeral to honor a family member.
finally a version I can sing along.
Cold song for cold song why not have a cup of coffee ? 😂 but sérieusement .... absolument fabuleux ... bravo
This is beautiful but... I prefer the version of Klaus Nomi in one of his last presentations in Allen Ehren ... He had been informed a short time ago that he was ill with AIDS, the feeling that he gave to that interpretation is simply impressive !! A true wonder !!!
Dope ass track
great silent silence
A very fast tempo for a frozen man
Effectivement pas mal…. Je le réécouterai sûrement souvent
Zu schnell! Wer taut auf in dieser Geschwindigkeit. Wer will auf 180 wieder gefrieren? Trotzdem wunderschön
Great voice and video but it's just too fast
Anyone else search for this after hearing the excerpt in The Crown?
Speed x 0.75 ❄
Everybody wanted to get the last bus.
Se qui son la a cause de leur prof😂
Ce de musique
I hate when an aria interferes with my morning java.
Demasiado rápido!!
