    If you're going to BMQ, Here are a few points:
    1) On day 1/day 2: You are going to go back to your barracks at night, lie in bed and think to yourself "What on earth was I thinking coming here. This is NOT for me." I want to let you know, about 9/10 people think that. Do not ask to quit. BMQ is not forever. BMQ is a giant act, a roleplaying event. Once you finish BMQ, life in the army is pretty normal. Again, do not ask to leave.
    2) You are going to notice the staff constantly angry and yelling at you and every one around you. Remember, this is a roleplaying event. They do NOT hate you and genuinely want you to succeed. They are going to go out of their way to help you pass and graduate. So don't take their yelling personally, even if it feels real. You'll see, at the end of BMQ, they'll turn off their angry face and they'll be friendly with you and may even joke around.
    3) BMQ might feel dangerous. It is not, there are a lot of staff and they are watching over you like hawks. You're in good hands.
    4) If you get injured, don't macho it out. It's easier to go see a doctor than to make the injury worse and have to get re-coursed. That said... Please don't abuse this over the slightest pain.
    5) At 6 pm, when you are back to the barracks or shacks. The staff will go home and you will be left alone. Do not sit and mess around. Take a 20-30 minute break to decompress then get to work, preparing for the next day. If you do this, you'll be ready for next day by 9:30 pm and you will NEVER be sleep deprived.
    6) Give YOUR 100%. The staff can tell if you're giving 100% or if you're slacking off. To give you an example, say you can do only 20 push ups, and john can do 40. You're at 19 push ups, struggling and giving it 100% while john is at 30 push ups and starting to slack off... John will get yelled at for slacking, you won't. Don't slack off, give it 100%, they'll know.
    7) Don't give excuses or argue. What ever it is, just learn to stay quiet. When you screw up, and you will, own up to it and fix it. That's what they want to see. What ever you do, don't argue. Just do.
    8) Get in shape. It'll make BMQ so much easier for you. You can still pass if you're out of shape but you'll make BMQ just so much harder for you and risk unnecessary injuries. If you don't know what to do, just jog around, do push ups and squats.
    9) During BMQ, the staff will give you a command to do. You will hear "Move with a sense of urgency." Have you ever been late to class and were walking down the hall quickly? Or ever done that power walk to the bathroom because you were going to poop/pee yourself? That's the kind of speed they want you to move at. You don't have to run unless they tell you run. Get a watch and always be 5-10 minutes early.
    10) Don't be an individual. Be like every one else. If you don't know what is going on, look at what your friends are doing and just copy them. Ask your friends first, don't ask the staff.

    Okay but what are the day to day activities like? Marksmanship skills, operations, strategy, etc, you know, the things you actually want to be doing Is probably something you only do for a grand total of a couple weeks a year outside of BMQ and whatever mandatory training afterwards right?
    So what, you show up every other weekend or whatever the mandatory minimum is, do paperwork, inspect equipment, take stock, etc? Maybe if you're a driver, you're taking a handful of guys to and from their posts, or if you're a mechanic, probably fixing or running diag on some vehicles yeah?

  • @Panacea9
    @Panacea9 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The training is designed and teach people not to question and just follow. It does not teach and discourages independent thought. There is mostly useless things being taught and focused on.
    Concerns people have about the course and training will be withheld inside and concerns being brought up will be shot back at them and never make it to the top to fix.
    The tools they train you on is faulty and nerfed in many ways and if independent thought was had an allowed, people even there being trained could figure out work arounds to use even the nerfed gear better than the way you are being shown.
    Independent thought is needed and needs to be a strong focus because when you are in combat, you might be a team, but the spot and position you are in, a lot of the times you are alone and need to make very quick judgement calls on how to act or pause.
    Canada and USA training for the military needs to be revamped completely so that people can learn better and more input is listened to and considered and makes it to the top as you shouldn't keep trying to teach methods that don't work or are not the most efficient.

    • @Panacea9
      @Panacea9 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Independent thought is essential as you will hear tricks from the enemy,(within the system or external). The people get programmed to take instruction and it works on people in combat who are looking for it.
      You can't listen to instructions such as put your arm near the tiger, go close to that bear, wave your hands at the shark and whatever non sense people do to try to hurt you.
      This will actually happen. Dominated people will listen.
      It isn't just malicious.
      People have garbage ideas a lot of the time in combat environments and listening to a paniced person that is too stressed to function who might be in charge is not a good way to work,
      They should be found first if they are going to lead a team though those people seem to make it through in every country.

I tried to enlist at 18 years old and was rejected for my eyesight alone, not mentioning that I'm flat-footed, and have respiratory allergies. Now at 44 I'm even less fit to be enlisted. Yet, I wouldn't fear to give my life if we were in a worse case scenario situation. But I have no training whatsoever. The russians could invade us from the North, and all I can do is watch it happen sitting on my couch. I still can learn to shoot, with what I tried I'm actually a decent shot. I can perform first aid, I'm resilient af, and there are way less people who would miss me if I go. There should be a "better than nothing" branch imo.

    Noticing these recruits look really really young. College or university students, which explains the summer training. Here's the thing, Reserves is very inflexible for working professionals to do a full weekend every month, one evening a week, not to mention months on months of training. If you wanted to join Navy as an Officer, NWO trade training is literally a full year. How many full-time professionals can take several months off summer after summer to complete training? The answer is basically none. And another thing, officer trades like cyber and intelligence specialists or anything air force reserves effectively don't exist. Forget about space force or flying anything high tech like a drone. It's definitely not like the USA. This reminds me of the RCMP advertisements in the cinemas; Youths watching the latest Avengers movie must have been impressed. I don't know about you but if I was young and had lots of time, I'd do some Computer Science or AI degree and join up big tech USA for half a million CAD start somewhere nice on the west coast and really drive the future forward.

      Thats a load of BS because PLENTY of people can afford to take a weekend off a month and one evening a week from 7pm to 10pm to go parade (training night) with their unit and I know this because I’m a Medic with a Reserves Fd Amb in which 99% of the members work in health services civilian side. Likewise depending on the unit, they are also flexible and acknowledge that their members can not attend all training nights and can not attend all the weekend exercises. I know plenty of members who only attend one training night a month and only go to two weekend exercises a training year. Yes, that is true that it’s tough to take couple months off in the summer from employer to do courses. However, there are weekend courses available to get qualified. Whether it is basic to trades qualification. Only difference is that if you can get it done in the summer it’s better versus weekends is spread out to almost 4-6 months depending on the course. I highly recommend anyone interested in joining the Reserves to speak directly to the unit they are interested in joining and then go speak with another unit that maybe similar (e.g., an infantry unit).

      @canuckscountry You are a wise chap for this timely rebuttal.
      If you hadn't dropped this real life practical response, folks would've imagined the OP's perspective as being the only reality of every working adult who attempts to join the Reserves,and might assume that hence why few working adults are part of the Reserves and why it's only filled with university students and teenagers, but he was incorrect.
      For officer trades in Cyber, Intelligence trades within the Army & Airforce Reserves actually having bases and jobs for officer-cadre in Ontario would actually be a great deal as some folks neither want the Navy or Army and want to do work as close as possible to high-tech aircraft like the soon to be acquired F35s.
      Many folks don't know being part of the Reserves is like taking a hack in life. Being able to get an experience what many people pay good money for later in their lives to get a taste of.

      @@1anre You can’t be discriminated on for your military obligations. If your job is in direct conflict (e.g requiring you to be an evening / weekend helpdesk) then you won’t get hired. When large corporations downsize they do it in large blocks, with everyone except the top performers or those who have secured new roles going away. Companies don’t say “Oh let’s get rid of Johnny because he has a once a week reserves commitment.” This simply doesn’t happen. If it did and it was found out, this is a BIG DEAL. Similar to discriminating against a woman for being pregnant.
      Having said this, it is in your best interests to be transparent during the hiring process about your commitments. You will always get the response, “no problem we will work around that”, or “that’s fine we will leave you to manage that please arrange coverage with your manager.”
      Companies like meta, Microsoft, rbc whatever do not want the bad publicity of one managers foolish decisions so they have strict policies on this stuff.
