How can Disney prove you’re lying about getting a DAS pass?

  • The Disney DAS pass at Disney world and Disneyland has a lot of people upset. Disney said that they will ban anyone who lies about there condition in order to obtain a Disability pass (DAS pass). But, can they prove you’re lying. What happens when you get a lifetime ban?

My biggest issue and concern I have with this new DAS is that Disney makes a profit and benefits from promoting they support our military and our veterans. In fact Disney has posted new photos in promotion of Tiana's Bayou Adventure showing her dad in a military uniform. People are absolutely loving it!! Cheering Disney on for supporting our troops. What does Disney do? DENY VETERANS AND COMBAT VETERANS ALIKE. who have lPTSD, Mental Health issues, and other combat related injuries and disabilities they have obtained thru their time in service. Disney is telling veterans, families of children with Autism, Down syndrome and other disabilities to practice waiting in line, and to not come to the park when it's hot. THIS IS OUTRAGEOS, and what's even worse is all the people online that are targeting disabled body people. Something needs to change, and I feel if Disney is exposed for discriminating against people with disabilities simply to make money off of their Genie+ program could be a serious allegation and lawsuit against Disney.

The change to DAS for those who legitimately need it is sad. I have Ulcerated Colitis, and my daughter Lupus. Long waits in sun is dangerous for my daughter and risky for me without giving out TMI. And their answer to not come on a sunny day or to get out of line to run to the restroom is not practical for those who have mobility issues.

My friend is legally blind (less than 10%vision) and uses her white cane at Disney World and always has someone escorting her. She has had the disability pass 10-14 years. Recently she was DENIED the DAS. She was told she can go sit and wait while her escort goes through the line and when escort gets to front, she can rejoin escort. HOW can she rejoin her escort if escort can not get out of line to get her??? The doctors say she is disabled but unqualified Disney interviewer says she does not qualify anymore. Oh, and the online interview you have to sign you will not participate in class action suit if you are denied pass. Of course you say ok because you know there is a REAL disability and no need to sue, then, BAM!!! Denied by WDW interviewer.

It's got nothing to do with disabilities being real or not. The DAS system is for things like autism where it may not be readily apparent that there is a need to a legally required accommodation. If you're in a wheel chair, hauling oxygen cylinders around, low vision or anything of that nature, it's just a matter of talking to the cast members that can give you a return time if applicable. DAS or no, there is a legal requirement for accommodations, but it's kind of insulting to suggest that blind people can't wait in line when they've got a helper. To an extent, I do get it if there isn't a helper as the way the queues are structured can be particularly confusing as they move the ropes and chains around to shorten or lengthen the line.

If more people thought like you about things like this at Disney then there would have probably been no need for Disney to changes things even as far as services for guests with disabilities period from the get go. I will say that anything that is not behind a paywall at Disney like the DAS Pass is not a money maker for Disney.
With that I will say to make a long story short that as a Disney Fan myself, it gives me a breath of fresh air to see a vlogger at Disney informing the public and who encourages proper prospective on things. Thank you so much for that and keep doing what you are doing.

Disney has always threatened bans for abuse of DAS. The only way they can really prove it is for the people who publicly brag about it. The best way to avoid it is just not to be a terrible person and not abuse it, it ruins it for the people that actually need it.

I agree, the new DAS system is terrible and a lot of my friends got denied, they used it before without a problem ,same with me. I’ve used the system because of my medical condition and I’ve never had a problem renewing it. I haven’t tried out the new system. Hopefully, I get approved. But I also agree that if they go back to the three free fast pass system, they wouldn’t have this problem.

That doesn't work. Most autistic adults aren't diagnosed, and we're a significant chunk of the folks with neurodevelopmental disorders that can impact our ability to wait in line. Many don't even have access to the appropriate medical facilities to get a diagnosis, and I'm personally lacking a diagnosis purely because at the time I had other diagnoses that weren't allowed to coexist with it. I'm lucky, because I can mostly just avoid going during the hottest bit of the year, wear earplugs and sunglasses, but many can't and those are the folks this is for. For other types of disabilities, there simply isn't the same level of lacking of identification, visibility and diagnosis to warrant it. If you've got a wheel chair, that's going to get the help. Same goes for oxygen cylinders, cane or other such paraphernalia.
I wish it was as easy as just going to a doctor and getting a diagnosis. Perhaps in the future, but we're not anywhere near there when it comes to neurodevelopmental conditions that can't be diagnosed via genetic testing.

This was the last freaking straw for me. I held out hope for years Disney would get better and my family is fortunate enough to have money to go to Disney, but now that they’re stooping to charging disabled people for basic accommodations there’s no way I’m supporting their decaying parks. I myself am a physically disabled person and I know lots of disabled people who will be negatively impacted by this change. Yet when I raise my voice I’ve been attacked by other Disney fans telling me I should stop whining or just buy genie plus. It’s utterly repulsive especially when Universal has shown they have a disability service that works, but Disney won’t do it cause it takes time and money to get certified and they wouldn’t be able to charge disabled people for genie plus. Screw you disney you soulless beast of capitalism.

DAS being so open and easy to get from the onset was a bad decision; the number of social media personalities I've seen in the past encouraging people to abuse the old DAS was sickening. Seen so many people now posting they can no longer get it that need it and really should have access to it. I'm right there with you on it, should've required a physician's input from the onset and would've avoided this issue.

I think the real issue is how the DAS pass works. For instance of someone without any problem gets a pass then they get to ride twice the rides or more.
You put in the app to wait for say a 2hr long line for a big ride. Then you go wait in another line and ride rides until the 2 hr wait is over and repeat over and over.
If Disney reformed this to have a nice waiting area near the ride with access to water, shade or AC, food, and bathrooms and you had to wait there for the 2hrs or however long the wait is, no on would abuse it.
You get to ride the same number of rides as everyone else, yyiu have access to anything you need such as food or bathrooms, water fountains for taking meds etc.
If the only benefit is sitting comfortablely rather than standing in line and for some rides standing in the heat and sun. Then people wont really try to get the pass.
Seems the the most fair and simple thing to fix the problem.

Six Flags has two types of issue
    Wait times issued
    Immediate Ride Entry
We both receive the second, I don’t ride, I just ride my chair n people watch. We’re local to six flags n we visit FL often to visit my son/dil. Disney hasn’t been on our to do list in a few years bc they’re boring and now this

Why? DAS is basically just for certain invisible disabilities anyways. It's targeted to a group that has a lot of trouble accessing accommodations that we're entitled to due to a lack of diagnoses. There is a very good reason why this is focused on developmental conditions, if you've got a wheel chair, an oxygen cylinder, cane or the like, you simply don't need the pass because the cast members can already deal with it without needing more information. There are probably still a few queues that aren't adequately wheel chair accessible, but that's changing, and there are other methods for getting accommodations for more visible disabilities.

Which is DAS and it's also why it's so narrowly defined. Most disabilities do not require it. Most of the queues allow for scooters to fit, and those that don't have some alternate way of getting a scooter close enough to the ride that the person can either ride in the scooter or can be transferred to the ride vehicle. The DAS is mainly for those that can't wait in line for one reason or another.

5 minutes? I was stuck in the Haunted Mansion for like 10 minutes last week and I just chilled taking advantage of the time to take the best photos I've ever gotten of that part of the ride. People need some patience. If they drop a phone, just let a cast member know when you get off that you lost the phone and I'm sure they'll get it when they can. It's certainly better than potentially injuring yourself. Also, don't hold your phone if you can't keep a hand on it.

Why would she need the pass? If she's in a scooter either it's going to fit in the queue and she can wait. Or it's not going to fit in the queue and there's some sort of alternate method of riding the ride. The DAS pass was never intended to address issues with such obvious mobility issues. The Haunted Mansion was recently updated to make that easier and I'm not sure how many rides remain where there isn't a proper scooter accessible option for riding.

I would be happy to provide a basic note from their pedi but as of now that won't help. I still intend to speak with pedi at the next visit in case they move to a system where a doc note will work. Our trip is not until March 2025 so hoping things will change. We are a family of 5 (3 minors) and I feel like they are trying to punish larger families with party size restrictions- i have seen reports of people being told they can leave kids in standby line over the age of 7 and the DAS holder and parent can go thru LL- these are self reported and we know people like to exaggerate, but that is not ok with me. And why is autism/developmental issues more an issue than a kid that has medical issues. It seems highly specific and discriminatory. I have all my notes about they whys and what happens to my child but at this point with all the hate out there and the stress of it I'm not sure I want to be questioned in a way that makes me feel like I am doing something wrong. Easy, they can prove. Let’s say you go up and say your child is autistic. You get a DAS. You then go and ride after ride after ride is an E ride. You get an autistic child on 24 E rides a day, how do they know, your on DAS, your DAS is connected to your MDE. A child who now qualifies for a DAS has to have specific symptoms. If you have a ND or autism diagnosis, you have sensitivity to lights, loud noises, confusion situations, a lot of sensory overload. Most children who would need a DAS are saying they can’t stand in lines, they can’t stay in the parks for 12 or 14 hours without complete meltdown downs. So if you say all this get a DAS, and use it for your trip, Disney can pull up the DAS pass and see you did 14 E rides for 7 days I. A row from morning to night, and now 1220 or 180 days later your asking again, they are going to question how much you really need it. It is hard for Disney to look it up, not they can not look up almost anything, your reservations, if you have a das, how often you used that das, what rides you used it on, and if it makes no sense to them, they will question you, they may not tell you and give you a pass again and then call security and say go and watch, they have a DAS at this ride at this time, what does it look like, is the child having melt downs, can the child walk, is the child moving about as “normal” or as disabled. Is (sorry can’t say because it’s one,of the symptoms) remember there is now only a few symptoms they allow for DAS, yeah maybe not at every ride you may not see it, but if the child who is way over stimulated does not show those signs within a few day every, you lied and they will have video, first hand reports from security and evidence. They don’t have to catch everyone, they only have to catch one or two people, to send a clear message, that we are done allowing people to lie about disabilities.

That’s not how the DAS works. With some rides being listed as over an hour, there isn’t enough time to go on 24 rides in a single day.
If you have the DAS, like I did, you wait the full amount of time quoted for the Standby lines, then the amount of time in the Lightning Lanes. You just wait somewhere else. Overall, you end up waiting longer than anyone in the Standby queue because Disney inflates their wait times by approximately 20-25 minutes for their “E Ticket” attractions.

So does that mean, since I have ADHD and Autism that I’d qualify for a disability pass? I mean, I have documentation from numerous Drs if they need to see it. I can pull up my patient portal on my phone. Sorry, I’m not fully clear on the whole disability services thing and what qualifies and what doesn’t.

No. Just because you have that diagnosis doesn't mean you qualify. You have to be able to explain why you cannot wait in a traditional queue with everyone else and why you'd need to wait in a non-traditional way, in a quiet area or outside the line. It's not a way to skip the line. You still have to wait, you just wait outside of the regular line to help accommodate specific needs. You have to explain how that works for you, you can't compare yourself to others or try to use generic symptoms. NOt everyone with the same diagnosis has the same symptoms or needs. FOr example, my goddaughter has Autism. She struggles with a lot of things, but oddly enough, she LOVES lines at Disney. She loves the pre-show experience and absorbs all of the trivia and decorations. She has developed a deep trove of Disney trivia that she loves to discuss with anyone and everyone in those lines -- to the point that she will often annoy people. LOL. When they try to utilize DAS with an attraction that she likes, she goes nuts and demands to go in the "real" line. She qualifies for DAS because she has been known to cause disruptions in lines by being too friendly. Heh. That's not typical, of course. That's how it presents with her. She's the kind that fixates on topics and can become an expert quickly.
Point being, everyone is different and DAS is case by case. It's been abused lately by people who were using fairly controlled medical isues as a reason to avoid the lines --- conditions that, IMO, were total BS. I know a woman who has Crohns/IBS. She also has a colostomy bag. She and her family used that as a reason to get DAS because they thought it was a way to skip lines. That's how they treated it. Fact is, her condition was well controlled and she could wait in lines just fine. She hasn't had any major issues with her conidtion for years. She's otherwise quite healthy, is into running and yoga. She was totally abusing the system, but because she claimed to have a disability that prevented her from waiting in lines, which she does, they gave it to her. She didn't need it, but she claimed she did just in case she had to run to the restroom in an emergency. She ran (like RAN) in the January 5k at Disneyland this past January. I guess she didn't think Disney would notice. When her DAS expired and she tried to apply again in February, she was denied immediately. They had video and photos (that she saved to her Disney account) of her in the big crowd and of her running the whole way.
SHe was furious and claimed she was being discriminated against. LOL. She actually went to three different attorneys who all told her she was lucky they didn't issue her a ban or trespass warning. All the did was permanently revoke her ability to obtain or use DAS, either for herself or connected to another DAS user. Fact is, she was absolutely abusing the system by asking for accommodations she didn't need. There is no blanket accommodation for every disabled person, or even groups of people under any specific diagnosis.
Disney is trying to accommodate each person based on their needs. Or so they say... I could write a book of issues with their system as a disabled person myself. Things most able bodied an neurotypical people don't even think about.

That's assuming you have any or can get them. Most autistic adults are undiagnosed and it can be extremely expensive and hard to get a diagnosis. I only missed out on an AS diagnosis under the previous criteria because it wasn't allowed to have any of the schizo diagnoses and AS. It isn't that I'm not autistic, the neuropsychologist just wasn't allowed to make the diagnosis without that being off my record. But, the only way to get it off the record was effectively a new evaluation that didn't see enough of those symptoms to consider it relevant. It's a massive mess and people suggest that that folks should just bring their papers should really do some more research as having or not having papers has nothing to do with being autistic or needing the DAS passes.

@@smylex99 Most of the people that are complaining never needed the DAS to get the legally required accommodations. The DAS is for folks with neurodevelopmental conditions that may not be obvious enough for cast members to know if there's a disability and how to accommodate it.
Just because somebody doesn't have DAS, doesn't mean that they don't get accommodations. They're still going to help people in mobility scooters or hearing impairment enjoy their time at the park, it's just not what DAS ever did.
