This might be my favorite episode that isn't directed by David Lynch. Director Stephen Gyllenhaal (who has famous kids!) conjures the Twin Peaks atmosphere (IMO) most eloquently. The tension during the opening scene... the unaddressed apparent non-sequitur or the "really sad" visitor to the Sheriff's station... the quick insert shot of the mounted goat head after Andrew takes his swing... the succession of empty hallway shots in the final moments... brilliant! Top-notch guest-director!
I don’t think it’s confirmed, but I believe the reason for the hand shaking this episode is revealed at end of the episode with Bob’s hand appearing from the shadows. I believe that since Leland’s death, Bob has basically been stuck in the Black Lodge, unable to move and act freely without a host to inhabit. He needs a new person to inhabit in order to leave, so when people’s hands shake, it indicates that Bob is attempting to posses them, or at least probing for weakness, while searching for a new host.

Wow! Caught up with all 30 of your TP vids so far in less than 2 days. One of my fave series ever! Left 1 comment on a previous video; just in case you haven't reviewed comments on previous vids recently: a man depicted with antlers is a symbol that his wife is being unfaithful to him (usually at that moment). Hank was depicted with antlers, talking with Josie, soon after Jacque Renault's setup arrest, I think. So, Ed and Norma may have gotten together off-screen at that time. Thanks for these reactions! Liked all of 'em and sub'd.

The "missing pieces" is not a movie, it's little scenes from FWWM that were edited out to cut down the film time ( one of the extras on the Criterion edition of FWWM ). And DL has no interest in editing them back in. Speaking of little Twin Peaks extra things, when original TP was planned to re-run on Bravo cable channel in the 90's, intro videos with the Log Lady were created for each episode.
My question would be, never mind predicting season 3 (can't be done), but what you would have expected of a season 3 that followed on immediately from season 2, if it hadn't been cancelled?
I love me a rum & tonic, but bartenders often look a bit perplexed when I order it. However, I had totally forgotten it was featured in TP, until I rewatched this episode the other night. (I prefer it with white rum, though. Cuban Havana Club if you can get it, which you probably can't in the US.)

It's like the show in a way, part mysterious, part funny and then quite scary in bits. It's not like a book really, with a straight story, but a dossier of facts, witness statements, maps, drawings etc. Thank you Reel Food.

There's a long fan edit of Fire Walk With Me that includes the Missing Pieces. I think it's called Q2 Edit or something like that. Of course, just watching Fire Walk With Me and The Missing Pieces separately works just fine.
@@Ploobie86 The Q2 edit is excessively long and tone deaf. The person who did it pretty much added almost all the scenes wherever he felt they fit which screws with the pacing and remove the focus from Laura. Big no. First viewing should always be FWWM and then Missing Pieces.

Another great reaction, and we're so close for the end. I'm so nervous 🤣. I don't know what version of FWWM you'll see, but i hope you like it. See you next time 🤗
I love the romance, including the one that developed between you and the Rum Tonic. 😂 I just hope no one spoils the season's ending for you. Regarding the Donna dad plotline, to answer your question about why they threw it in now, I think because the writers had nothing for Donna to do since James left. I just realised we didn't see Nadine, Ed, or Norma this episode?
Have you decided how you're going to watch the movie? The options are theatrical version by itself, the theatrical version followed by the missing pieces, or the Blue Rose edition which reinserts the missing pieces into the movie to make for a complete viewing experience. My vote would be for the complete Blue Rose edition as it is closer to Lynch's original vision for the film.
Dude, first watch of FWWM should always be the theatrical cut. The alternative is just unnecessarily long, kills the pacing and it's not what was intended anyway.
I've only ever seen the theatrical version (or, as I think of it, the proper original version). And this has never negatively impacted on my enjoyment or understanding.
It may be an old-fashioned expression, but do you know what the term "Red Herring" means? By the way Werner Heisenberg was a German Physicist. It was interesting to see your realization as to why Annie likes her Rum Tonic.
Hi. This is a lot spoiler-y, and we are trying not to give ANYTHING away to this clever reactor who has also requested no spoilers, and who will work out what you mean in an instant. I'd appreciate you delete your last sentence please. That is something picked up on a second watch, or in retrospect, and as such is the type of comment welcome after the finale, not before. We aim to neither confirm nor deny till after the fact.
I'm kinda shocked that so many are saying that The Missing Pieces is necessary before season 3. I held off seeing it until this year because I always wanted to have a little Twin Peaks left to watch. Outside of a couple of moments it's entirely superfluous, and none of those moments give insight into what's going on in season 3. I see some people arguing that but it's just not true. You're not going to have a clearer understanding or be less confused by certain things in season 3 by watching this. Also would not recommend watching any fan edit of FWWM with the missing pieces sewn back in. Fandoms get caught up in wanting every bit of footage shot to be put back in and miss the fact that the editing process is the most important part in shaping a film. Lynch found what was essential for FWWM in the edit and turned what would've been a bloated fanservicey romp into a horrific masterpiece. My vote would be for the missing pieces after season 3. It'd be a shame to wait an extra week to start season 3 for this.
Its so weird, im so used to movies, that I almost believe that American high schoolers are closer to their 30s. Same with war movies, its always (when it rarely happens) weird, and feels kinda... wrong to see actual 18-20 yo scrawny boys play the parts of soldiers, instead of the handsome 30-40 yo men were used to see.
Yes, he's playing such a bland and boring character. All that 'dashing' romantic stuff is a real yawn fest for me. Whenever romance is involved, I need it to have a quirky 'edge' at the very least.

Curiosamente El hijo del director de este capítulo ‘Jake’ se leyó el diario secreto de Laura palmer, hay una imagen curiosa donde está leyendo el libro. Tal vez sea muy Fan Nose muy bien.
Another great reaction, and we're so close for the end. I'm so nervous 🤣. I don't know what version of FWWM you'll see, but i hope you like it. See you next time 🤗
going to be consistently watching these once you get to the last 2 episodes and especially season 3
The limbs that were trembling during this episode were…( take note).. the arms!
well played!
I found this in the project archives... 😂
I need more Ed and Norma romance!!!
That violates copyright. And disrespects DL. He has no desire to edit those scenes into the film.
@@letsrock1729 The only change for the Criterion edition was to remaster the sound and color quality.
@@treetopjones737 I'm not sure which edition I have, but it's exactly the same version of the film that I saw at the cinema when it first came out.
@@zanyzander I guess I didn't notice that. So sorry. Thanks for the heads up.
Thank you so much for deleting that reference. Very appreciated. I know how tempting it is myself to say something. @MrGadfly772
Not for nothin... you might wanna check out "radiolab red herring"... it's a cool story... (probably can be found here on youtube)
There's also a fan edit of FWWM that incorporated all of the Missing Pieces footage (minus one deleted scene)
That violates copyright and disrespects DL.
@@treetopjones737 it's not on TH-cam
Any availability of the full film ( with added parts even ) to public views is a violation.
Wooo
Yes. "Fan edits" violate copyright, and also disrespect DL not wanting to edit those scenes into the film. The film as released is his vision.
100% agree.
Whatever you do you have to check out the Twin Peaks skit that Sesame Street did.
Ooo just saw that it is Monsterpiece theatre segment - can’t wait to check this out!
@@Reel_Food Monsterpiece Theatre, which was a satire on PBS' Masterpiece Theatre.
"The missing pieces" is over-rated by fans. Yes there are a few scenes that are quite interesting but it's certainly not required to enjoy season 3.
I always hated Billy Zane's performance and i still do 😅 and the music too
Yes, he's playing such a bland and boring character. All that 'dashing' romantic stuff is a real yawn fest for me. Whenever romance is involved, I need it to have a quirky 'edge' at the very least.
@@letsrock1729 he did the same at Titanic 😁
@@CavHDeu He did! Although I do remember really enjoying his performance in 'Dead Calm' (1989), but I haven't seen that film in decades now, so it's a bit of a hazy memory.
Editor here! I remember him being fun in Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight!
@@Reel_Food uhhh i can't recall if i have seen this but i liked tales from the crypt very much.
