Feel like Twin Peaks mood should be a thing Got in one last night. Was feeling depressed and almost started my third run of the show since I found it less than a year ago As someone who is pretty strange and whose had a rather strange life, twin peaks is my weirdly favorite escape from reality
@@HNfilms At first I thought you were wild for saying that, but thinking about it the reason I liked Harry was mostly because of the amazing moments he has with Cooper, so good that he rubs off on everyone else around him. I immediately thought when I first saw Cooper introduced, that it was going to be a case of "Big city cop butts heads with small town sherrif!" but was pleasantly surprised to see that flipped on its head.
In my opinion, the best of the Twin Peaks show/series wasn't part of the show itself but the movie. Twin Peaks : Fire Walk With Me was the best of the best.
I never thought my life could improve exponentially in 2 hours. Yet, at the conclusion of this video, I found myself to be a better man than I was at 0:00. Thank you HN films for advancing learning and changing lives, as per.
I definitely disagree with your take on Sarah Palmer in Part 8 of The Return. I believe the show was trying to imply that Sarah was sexually assaulted that night. This is set up by the awkward kiss between Sarah and her boyfriend before she enters her house, and then the frogmoth coming in through her window and entering her mouth can be interpreted as the boyfriend coming in through her window and putting something else in her mouth. The way the bug enters her mouth seems purposely evocative of this. To me, Judy represents generational trauma. Sarah being possessed by Judy here is why she “allows” (obviously it’s unclear how much she knew but it seems clear in FWWM she had some idea) Bob/Leland to do what he does to Laura. The moth entering through the window is also how Bob enters Laura’s room. Sarah is passing generational trauma (Judy) to Laura in the form of Bob, Judy’s own creation. Just wanted to get my thoughts about this out. It was a very enjoyable video and I loved hearing your takes on stuff like this.
While that is a valid interpretation, I don't think all the supernatural stuff going on in TP is purely metaphorical or symbolic, there is just too much going on that can't be explained that way.
I like the theory but i beg to differ. I think i see whete you come from (correct me if i'm wrong): the whole "Bob playing with Leland when he was a young being a metaphor for generational abuse". But ofc, Sarah instead of Leland and Frogmoth instead of Bob. It is virtually the same theory with different characters. The problem with the "Frogmoth = Sarah's bf" theory imo is that there's absolutely nothing that links the guy with the Frogmoth unlike the "Bob theory" where Leland CONFIRMS that the Bob we see possessing Laura is the same Bob that he met while he was a child. Not only that but Bob's character's traits aswell while Sarah's bf had no such traits or at least not onscreen. What I believe tho is that yes, Leland passed the generational trauma while Sarah passed the "gateway" (represented by the Frogmoth) to the entity we know as Bob, thus making Laura the perfect vessel for Bob. Like if Leland was the lock and Sarah/Frogmoth the key.
Some of my favourite parts of all of Twin peaks is in the end of The Return, the black and white parts with material from Fire walk with me, when Cooper and Laura are in the woods. It’s so haunting.
I have had The TP theme on my Spotify list for years. Every time I hear that first deep bass "bum bum" strumming, I get chill bumps & I'm taken back to 1990, sitting on my couch, ready to be blown away with Lynchian madness. 😊
Ever since Twin Peaks first aired here in Belgium in the spring of 1991, I’ve been fond of it. I think I’ve watched the first and second season in their entirety about five times, but I’ve only watched season 3 once so far, and the same goes for “Fire, Walk With Me”, which I haven’t seen probably since around the time it got its first dvd release. Earlier this year I finally got around to reading “The Secret History” and “The Final Dossier”, and now your excellent ranking video has inspired me to rewatch everything to get the complete experience. So thanks for this elaborate and thoughtful review.
Nice to see another Ben Horne Civil War side-plot appreciator! It's definitely bizarre and some of the imagery is uhhh... Yeah lol. But I just LOVE Beymer's performance and the conclusion of this plot is strangely touching.
It's wild that this doesn't have more views, this is as good if not better than the Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul rankings. Well, for what it's worth now I really want to watch Twin Peaks again. Thanks HN!

Loved hearing your thoughts on the show and feel inspired to watch it all over again, even though i did that only a few months ago. I don't leave comments very often but just wanted to say thank you.
As requested by the poster of this vid, I am here to identify the song playing in the background of the season 2 episode "On the Wings f Love" that plays during the scene in which Cole meets Shelly for the first time. It is called "Wedding Song # 1" and was composed by Angelo Badalamenti. It was only ever released on the amazing Twin Peaks Archive soundtrack (over 200 tracks that had been composed for the series and Fire Walk With Me that had not been previously released on the other official soundtracks. It included a ton of screen used incidental & background music, as well as demo versions, alternate and extended mixes, etc. It was only available through David Lynch's official website at that time... and that site sadly no longer exists. As far as I can tell, the Twin Peaks Archive does not appear to be commercially available anywhere anymore. *sad trombone*

Rest in peace, David. A local journalist described his work as "some of the most beautiful ugliness, and the most ugly beauty ever created," and this resonated with me.
For me, the killer reveal is the best episode. The absolutely beautiful ending, where the waiter is comforting Cooper, and all those closest to Laura are crying simultaneously yet separately, overcome by grief without really being able to grasp why. All topped with Julee Cruise.
as a proper ending to twin peaks the finale must be my favorite of all of them. At the very end, after the electricity shuts down comes the golden scene: Coop getting whispered to while the track plays, called "Dark Space Low". Absolute dread. Something really went wrong there.
Lara Flynn Boyle was Kyle Maclachlans gf at the time and she was extremely jealous of Sherilyn Fenn, so yeah you could say the actresses didn’t get along. Apparently she was angry at the romantic tension between Coop and Audrey and Kyle refused to have his character kiss Audrey because Lara forbade it.
The bts reasoning is stupid, but I am personally glad that Coop and Audrey never got together. Not only would it feel weird for a usually conscientious FBI agent to have a legitimate romantic connection with a high schooler (possibly 18, but still a high schooler nonetheless).
@@JohnDoe-xf8ew They had the same issue going on as in the show Community where they didn't foresee the on screen chemistry that the characters would have and therefore didn't plan for it. What's even more silly is that Heather Graham was 5 years younger than Fenn and they then paired her with Coop. They simply didn't address her age.
Off on another Twin Peaks run off the back of the brilliant man's sad passing. Just starting season 2 now - every episode of this show feels like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket - Lynch and Frost created such a wonderful, quirky and warm world to get lost in. I'll give this video another watch when done - just love it all.
Bro I just finished watching Twin Peaks for the first time a month ago, fell in love with it, and then you've gone and put this out. Incredibly based. Now do a Sopranos episode ranking and then you are truly a god.
Just throwing it out there, my Audrey theory is that she never came out of that coma, making the implication of Richard's conception all the more prominent.
If the dimension Cooper enters as Richard in the last episode is the real world it would mean basically that everything is predetermined and none of the show mattered. Quite literally everything was one of Cooper’s dreams. I hate how good this theory works because it seems almost like a cop out. It’s a “and then I woke up” ending.
I was born in 88 and I was still pretty young at the time it aired so I don't really remember seeing it, but I binged it during lockdown and loved it. At first I didn't enjoy The Return because of the tonal shift and everything, but eventually I started to really enjoy it. Not as much as the first two seasons, but still. Quickly became one of my favorite shows of all time.
Love the #1 pick. I was stationed in Germany when the series came out, so I hadn't heard of it. One of my buddies stateside sent me a VHS with S2E1 with a note that this show was made for me. I was hooked immediately. The owls are not what they seem.
Fun fact: Robert Forster was Lynch's first pick to play Harry in the original series, however he wasn't available to play the part so they casted Michael Ontkean instead. When Ontkean had retired and wouldn't return to work with Lynch on the return, Forster was available and so instead of just casting him as Harry instead, they made him to be Harry's older brother, Frank. The character Harry was a necessary one for Twin Peaks, besides being the straight, stable one among all these quirky characters, he was the audience surrogate when Cooper stopped being audience surrogate. If Cooper was our stand in, he's like the rearview camera on a phone. Harry was when we, the audience, had the phone change cameras and was using the selfie lens to get a picture of what Cooper was thinking.
1:44:20 I’m sorry but as a french I think I can speak on behalf of all of us when I say I was horrified by these fake looking baguettes the first time I saw this scene
I think that has to be the real Dale in that scene, but Jefferies being unstuck in time is aware that there will be a doppelganger so he may not be sure.
Everything Jeffries said during that scene (especially in The Missing Piece) tell us that he already experienced everything that happened in The Return
Interesting start, I always felt that "the condemned woman" was the episode where the show got interesting again after the last 6 episodes had the Evelyn Marsh storyline
That video was unbelievably good. I could write a 500 words essay praising it. For whomever wants to fill the gaps in the Twin Peaks lore, I would highly recommend watching The Missing Pieces (2014) and reading The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer (Jennifer Lynch). And if you wanna go real deep, The Secret History of Twin Peaks and The Final Dossier (both written by Mark Frost).
After playing Alan Wake II and enjoying all of Remedy's games before that, I figured it was finally time to watch this show and what a ride it was. I'm currently rewatching it for the very first time and I'm trying to take my time with it. The first time around I felt like I maybe rushed things a bit to get to S03 cuz I had heard so many interesting things about it.
While watching the S3E17 episode I wondered will this episode have a roadhouse performance because I thought it’s not possible. But the cut from the dark woods to Julee Cruise was perfection. Ammediate goosebumps from hearing that song…
56:23 I never thought of that before watching this video, but after you mentioned that more probable than not rape of Audrey by Evil Coop 25 years ago, this damned son of the devil may actually be a son of the devil himself. UPD 1:53:28 : Oh, right...
I think session 3 would have been better served by more episodes within Twin Peaks even if that meant less episodes. It would have been cool to see the FBI looking for Mr C but ignoring the supernatural evidence and the Book house Boys hot on the tail and finally uncovering the evil in the woods.
Leyland wasn’t called in to defend Ben because he would have been personally involved in the case… and that it was… you know…. For the murder of his own daughter!
10/10 editting, 10/10 commentary, just the right amount of humor...but I will say, I listen to a lot of these types of videos so not saying which episode you're talking about was too bad but holy cow great working putting this together :)
Random suffle of episodes was most fun, thanks. I watched it when it first aired and I captured it on VHS. Sometimes we had to wait for weeks to get the next episode.
wow, my last rewatch it also hit me how amazing s2 ep 1 really is. It's the one singular one I've found myself ruminating on the most, even w so much time passed. Love the placement
I think that some of the stuff that Judy spits out in Part 8 is those eggs that become the frog bug, so I don't think that thing is Laura. My theory has always been that those things aren't actually Judy but somehow allow Judy to possess you if she is in this world. So, I don't think Sarah is Judy until after Judy enters our world through the glass box in the beginning. As for the orb, it looks in the wide shot like it ends up over Oklahoma. I wonder if they aren't actually creating Laura there but are instead creating the Laura Palmer tulpa that winds up in Odessa and becomes the final piece of the puzzle in their plan to destroy Judy. That's a wild theory, idk, but maybe something to it.
As a trans person I can say Denise is really good representation. For a 90s show and even by todays standards shes great. Only detractor being that she isnt played by a trans actor
@@STOPSYPHER all people look different Some trans people present physical traits common in their biological sex, other from their gender and some both just like cis people
Ngl when I was going through the series recently, I was very surprised by Denise. Very forward thinking by Lynch and Frost. I was 100% expecting the character to be played for laughs or something like a lot of 90s shows did but no, it was played 100% serious and respectfully. Kudos to them.
Unpopular opinion: I don’t think Season 2 is that bad. I will admit it does feel a lot less focused than the first fifteen and the main plot with Windom Earle isn’t particularly great, mostly just because that character feels rather inconsistent, there’s a good character there, but his whole chess deal feels more like a Batman villain than Twin Peaks. That being said, I still love being in the world and the characters and the fact that Season 2 has more David Lynch as Gordon Cole, who is my favourite character of the show. Also, I as well love Benjamin’s Civil War plot, if only because I’m a West Side Story geek, so having Richard Beymer and Russ Tamblyn on screen just makes me squee. Oh, and let’s not forget Denise Bryson. Also unpopular opinion: I don’t like Season 3 as much as the first two.
Thank you for everything David Lynch.

Legitimately good video surprised it's only got 2K+ views cheers from a fellow twin peaks nerd
This is sublime!!!!!!! I have absolutely loved watching this
*Harold having a mental condition, and being a good friend by keeping Laura's diary a secret*
This guy: "Wow what a creep"
Harold was such a sweetheart he deserved sm better :(
Also, according to Laura herself in the Secret Diary tie-in novel, Laura actually r***d Harold.
@@camchem oh god I had no idea of this could you please explain ??
he likes children
The girls are in high school and he's creeping on them, that's not a positive.
1:44:20 I’m sorry but as a french I think I can speak on behalf of all of us when I say I was horrified by these fake looking baguettes the first time I saw this scene
To be fair they still look good to me lol. I hope one day to have an authentic French baguette though.
Chrystabell who plays Tammy is also a singer and recorded two albums with David
I think Jeffries saying "who do you think that is???" is him suggesting that it's Mr. C.
I can't find another explanation.
I think that has to be the real Dale in that scene, but Jefferies being unstuck in time is aware that there will be a doppelganger so he may not be sure.
Everything Jeffries said during that scene (especially in The Missing Piece) tell us that he already experienced everything that happened in The Return
3:38 "DONT DRINK THE COFFEE!!!!! You wouldn't believe it, but there was a FISH... IN THE PERCOLATOR
Outstanding job! Liked & subscribed.
Season 2, Episode 7, Lonely Souls, my #1....Julee Cruise, sadness in the Roadhouse and the Giant re-appears...great post Twin Peaks is an all timer.
Interesting start, I always felt that "the condemned woman" was the episode where the show got interesting again after the last 6 episodes had the Evelyn Marsh storyline
I just had the idea to make this video and I look it up and you stole it. Glad to see the show getting love keep up the good work
Its something I wanted to make for ages and I figured I better get on it before someone else does
That video was unbelievably good.
This video was entertaining AF 🔥
56:23 I never thought of that before watching this video, but after you mentioned that more probable than not rape of Audrey by Evil Coop 25 years ago, this damned son of the devil may actually be a son of the devil himself.
UPD 1:53:28 : Oh, right...
My wife and I had watch parties when this came on the air. Coffee ☕️ and 🥧.
I think session 3 would have been better served by more episodes within Twin Peaks even if that meant less episodes. It would have been cool to see the FBI looking for Mr C but ignoring the supernatural evidence and the Book house Boys hot on the tail and finally uncovering the evil in the woods.
Such a great video!!!
I say the name of each episode before I talk about it though
Random suffle of episodes was most fun, thanks. I watched it when it first aired and I captured it on VHS. Sometimes we had to wait for weeks to get the next episode.
You laughed when the kid got runover ?!? Wtf. That scene is devastating. I cannot watch it without being brought to sobs
Watching this when I heard David Lynch died. Sad
wow, my last rewatch it also hit me how amazing s2 ep 1 really is. It's the one singular one I've found myself ruminating on the most, even w so much time passed. Love the placement
59:30 His spot is in Canada... French Canadian... maybe from Quebec. lol
Twin Perfect here on YT to me has the best interpretation of all things Twin Peaks. This video is well done too and a very interesting watch...
Good video but I don't think it was necessary to do a 2 hour video about your favorite twinks
Somehow exactly the kind of content I need right now
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one :D
I’m hyped for the “best copper quotes” of the Dougie episodes lmao
The Renaults have French accents because they’re French Canadian. Thought that was pretty clear.
Denise the goat
A good representation of the fact that everyone can tell it’s a man?
@@STOPSYPHER all people look different
Some trans people present physical traits common in their biological sex, other from their gender and some both
just like cis people
Ngl when I was going through the series recently, I was very surprised by Denise. Very forward thinking by Lynch and Frost. I was 100% expecting the character to be played for laughs or something like a lot of 90s shows did but no, it was played 100% serious and respectfully. Kudos to them.
I love 2.1, but 3.8 is #1 for me. It's the deepest well of this universe's mythology. It may be the greatest episode of any show ever produced.
3.8 is such a one off - it's incredible. It's the most audacious TV episode I've ever seen. Definitely my #1 too.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of 3.8 tbh! Love the ambition but it wasn’t for me. Maybe on a rewatch I’ll appreciate it more
Part 8 is definitely better on subsequent watches
@@ritzcrackerz4921 Amazing on a projector screen - it's very cinematic.
It’s absolutely insane and I love it so much.
10/10 VIDEO BRO!!!!
Gotta Light and How's Annie are easily top two for me. They elevated Twin Peaks from great to masterful.
Well i guess i have to rewatch Twin Peaks. Amazing video!
