I started listening to them in 86, got evol and the self titled one, but this one brought me back into their music, sort of lost interest in the early 90's, but still listened, just not as much, this one had me hooked, jim o helped as well.
best SY album this century... if i ever get myself to the point i could play ANY sy song that day i'll say i have nothing else to learn about guitar playing..
for the longest time I have always heard people talk shit about sonic youth. (Its how I found out about them.) I bought goo and daydream nation from a thrift store. I think these albums are amazing. I like Goo a bit more because the album just flows. daydream nation has a few songs I can't stand. would somebody give me a honest opinion on what their best albums are? not your favorite just what you honestly think is their best musically.
@whenitsrightitswong seriously, all of their albums are great in their own way. my least favorite is dirty (sorry Methstories) and NYC Ghosts and Flowers. Murray Street is amazing. Washing Machine was my fav for a long time. So is Sonic Nurse. Goo, of course, is a masterpiece along with Daydream Nation..just check em all out..
Dude, there's nothing terrible about Dirty. JC, Stalker, Shoot, Theresa's Sound-World, Nic Fit...not to mention the instrumentals and additional songs on the deluxe version.
I would spend all day trying to decide which guitar I wanted to play if I had that many guitars
@joed424 When Murray Street came out, they had a 3-part documentary on their webpage for download. So, I downloaded it all and put it on here. Presto.
I love these videos, it really just makes me want to form a big studio in my basement. Jim O'Rourke is my idol
Wow, it's so great to see this, and like go back to Sonic Youth. they have so much dedication to their art.
I want that stamp.

xander j. Rain On Tin
Sonic Youth are such an inspiration, outside the mainstream but all the more relevant for it.
If you consider having videos on MTV, going to fashion shows, and starting a clothing line being outside the mainstream. Whatever you say, joe.

dude, Dirty is terrible in comparison to this in every way. I've never understood the allure towards that album
