- We have a journey before us: to build a traditional American style house & to have it move in ready before the year's end. We'd love to have you join us during our first house build here on Frontier Patriot. Today is episode #1 where we put together what will eventually be the cellar. You have to build a house from the bottom up, after all.

Our floor plan was on a large yellow pad of paper. I found a layout online that I liked and the men duplicated it.

I've seen parts of PhD physics thesis diagrams that were obviously done in Paint. It's ok.
I'm a retired carpenter and this all looks VERY familiar - I'm just grateful I'm able to watch instead of doing it! You'll have an awesome house shortly! It's odd to see you two in regular contemporary clothes!!
I can relate to all that you just got through saying I have been a carpenter contractor for 51 years coming up this new year it all looks very familiar❤ may I add a prayer for you that God will be with you throughout your lifetime and you will have all that you seek and it's a blessing that the Lord has for you will multiply upon your family with good people lots of love. Hope you can save some of that rock that you dug up! It would be nice to have a little retaining wall around the garden, or paving stones on a path, or something made from it as a permanent part of your homestead!

Speaking for myself, I am EXCITED beyond words to see the construction of things as you all go and I think it was a GREAT idea, Justine, for you to feel we were worthy of walking this journey with you and Ron! My husband and father in law built our house in 2002. . Started in March and we moved in on Labor Day weekend. This brings back good memories. I wish I had documented mine better. Good luck to you and Ron. You will have a wonderful life together.
Madison county is pretty great, I grew up in Ironton, and the Pilot Knob area, and went to school and graduated from there. I now live in Alabama, but I always go home to visit family every year. I’m happy you found your spot of land to build your dream home on, stay blessed my friends, and happy building! ❤

Fabulous! I am so excited for you, both. What a wonderful crew you have. I'm a retired accountant that worked in home construction. You've brought back many memories. I believe the footers and foundation are extremely important, right up there with the roofing. I can't wait to see your framing.

So cool to see how the foundation and cellar were laid qnd built! It was funny after the concrete for the was smoothed out I was thinking how hard it would be not to write something in it and then you showed that you wrote the year in a corner. Can't wait fot the next episode!

Thank you for sharing this. It brought back a lot of memories when we (parents, brother, and me) built the house that my parents presently live in now. I remember us doing the footing and foundation walls. We live in very south south Texas, so you cannot have basements because the water table is so high. It was hot, long, and hard work. I will confess, I'll gladly do electrical, plumbing, and framing any day over doing cement work. I did more than I ever would like to do of that.
When my uncle built his house, the contractor knew that my aunt canned fruits and vegetables from the family farm and suggested instead of backfilling the area under the front porch when digging the foundation, that they instead turn it into a long narrow room with a door from the cellar. Now Aunt Hazel has a cold pantry approximately 6 foot wide by 25 foot long; the shelves have enough room below them to store fresh root vegetables and are deep enough to hold 6 quart jars in a row. This also saved them money in the long run because the backfill dirt cost more than building the simple pantry! Hope this gives you an idea you can use! We enjoy your channels. Your property is beautiful. We are also building a house only ours is a cabin in the woods. I love your choice of music. When I was working at Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab there was this lady who was in a wheelchair and she was always in motion. She sang this song all the time. She was the happiest person I have ever met. So thank you for that happy memory. I can't wait to see the progress on your house. It is so exciting.

You should be able to do something w/ those big flat slabs of rock...patio, fire pit, porch, driveway....something. Or sell it. If people buy that type of stuff from Home Depot for patios or whatever, they'll buy it from you...

You need to put a time capsule in the walls somewhere. Have a little journal with everyone's name involved with building the house and photos. When it's finished have the capsule in the wall but have it behind glass or perspex then hang a picture over the top. Imagine in 200 years time finding that capsule with the names of everyone involved, photos and dates. That would be amazing😊
