- We start the first leg of our Caldon Canal journey, heading up the Trent and Mersey Canal and the 9 locks between Stone and Stoke-on-Trent. Our very first lock has a child’s plastic ball floating in it, causing us some concern that it might get wedged between the side of the boat and the lock wall. After carefully filling the lock, we managed to rescue the ball!

Oh My a Dental stick for Pixie.............yum yum...... my Chloe has one of these every morning after her breakfast at 8 30am..... and yes Chloe knows when the clock strikes 8 30am LOL and she even knows her cupboard where the Dental sticks are LOL gotta love our fur babies...

Glad you had good weather to get cruising! Never a bad idea to top off on diesel when you can, as even just keeping the tank full is good for a variety of reasons. Yes, there are some deep locks on the Trent and Mersey canal, sometimes a bit daunting when on the back of the boat!

The weather certainly helps with cruising but those willow attacking Maggie were a bit much. Those last few locks were deep and narrow, I felt a bit claustrophobic.
Yes, there are some very deep ones that can actually be quite daunting when on board the boat looking up at them!

Yes, we were a bit worried there would be boats coming the opposite way that we couldn’t see because of the trees...! We tooted our horn just in case!

Not all, but I like to do them, especially on the colder days as it keeps me warm!! I get cold very easily...
I recall George of Minimal List finding (and losing) a ball or two...maybe that was one of them in the lock(?)

It’s our wifi antenna, allows us to get a decent signal inside the boat for our internet.

@@NarrowboatChef I don't understand 'maintenance mode'. I see it on big company websites (site will be off-line for maintenance) - yet all website maintenance is is uploading new content. There never needs to be a time the site is not available!

Ryan is getting picked on in the comments for not doing his share of the locks. He should remind us he does all /most of the cooking.
But who does the dishes? LoVe to cook, bake etc...hate dishes.
Cooking is fun. Working the locks is slave labour.
@@illiniwood I keep forgetting that there are people who like to cook. I’ve lost 10 pounds during lockdown from staying home and eating my own cooking. ;-)
Lol, too true! He does do all the cooking and he keeps the boat clean by doing the dishes and housework! Plus we’re trying to keep our distance from others while out on the canals, and seeing as he’s higher risk, I’m electing to do most of the locks. 😊
Since you say he does the dishes and the house work....i would rather do the locks too. And besides he is supposed to be good in the kitchen...so its a win win.
