The dance was so beautifully done. In the manga it's just a few zoomed out panels and you hardly see Fern and Stark together. Here you truly feel the intimacy of the dance.
Madhouse also included an arcane piece of etiquette. The man asks a lady for a dance by extending his open palm to her. She indicates acceptance by placing only the tips of her fingers into his open palm. Also Fern's faces during this dance are so narrative. She starts out hesitant and unsure, but Stark makes a bold dance move early in leading her, and we see the surprise on her face. Then she relaxes into his arms and the dance, and they both completely enjoy it. That was pure pleasure. Stark is a super-warrior at the peak of his physical abilities. With a little training in dance, it is not surprising that he is an excellent dancer.
My cat had dental surgery recently, the meds caused sensory overload and she hid under the bed for days because light and sound were overwhelming. I was rewatching the dance one night and she came out for the first time and watched it on my lap, I put it on loop for her because she couldn't look away and it was the only thing that relaxed her during recovery
14:40 Sadly, I doubt Start's father was like Orden. He referred to Stark as a failure, told his brother to not bother training him, etc. Substantially more dismissive than Orden. I think Stark was simply encouraged to see that what he feared to be a situation like his family's turned out not to be.
Incidentally, almost every episode covers 2 manga chapters, which is why you see lots of "split episodes" like this one in between the major story arcs.
My favourite moment of this episode aside from all the cool and beautiful visuals, is the shot at the very end. Frieren looked at the whole party standing at the wall waiting, she smiled and look down on a book. Doesnt need dialogue but you can read a lot out of that, just a short clip shows you a lot about Frieren coming to this far.
there's a lot to remark about this episode but my favorite thing is when Fern gets the news that she needs to accompany Stark at the ball while holding two donuts 🍩 🍩
First of all, I don't understand English so I apologize if my English is a bit weird. Also, please understand if this seems like a long post. Also, I would like to pray for the repose of the soul of Ms. Atsuko Tanaka, the voice actress who plays the role of Flamme. This anime is overwhelmingly more beautiful than other anime, and it has gags and is a sad anime. You may not feel the sadness of this anime if you watch it normally, but I think those with a rich imagination or who are highly sensitive will understand it. If you use your imagination, you can understand the sadness. Also, this is a work that places more importance on inner feelings than flashiness. Also, this anime places great importance on the dialogue, and it's full of great quotes. Every episode was good, and even in the build-up episodes, it's rare to find such a good story, and episode 27 in particular is in a class of its own, it's an amazing and good story. Also, the meaning is different in the English title, Sousou no Frieren(葬送のフリーレン). The 8th episode was the title collection episode of this anime in Japan. Sousou(葬送) means "funeral" and refers to saying your final farewell to the dead and sending them off to the crematorium or cemetery. This has a double meaning as it is used not only for allies but also for enemy demons. In particular, Himmel's proposal in episode 14 was the most beautiful, but at the same time, the saddest scene. Everyone can see that it was a beautiful scene. But what made it sad was that Himmel proposed to Frieren, but Frieren didn't know at the time that it was a proposal. And, ``Humans and elves live for different periods of time.'' This is a very sad thing. Their lifespans are so different that humans and elves can't live the same lives. That's why I think Himmel didn't say anything to Frieren. For 50 years since defeating the Demon King, what did Himmel think? The sadness was diluted by the inclusion of gags, but it was also a really sad scene that would have made you cry. How many people really understand this anime? I can't speak for others though... I think you two would understand. And watching this anime makes me realize how precious time is. I believe this anime has a deeper meaning than other anime like Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen, which are like defeating an enemy. I want more people to watch anime like this. My wish is, for now, My rating on MyAnimeList remains the same, and I hope the number of members exceeds 1 million. I ended up liking sousou no Frieren better than Fullmetal Alchemist. Many people there are only anime with flashy looks there is a tendency to want to see it. Also, YOASOBI's OP has an English version called "The Brave". I think it conveys the sadness of the lyrics. You won't understand the sadness until the story progresses to a certain extent, and you won't understand the sadness unless you understand the person's feelings. Please give it a listen if you like.
I love the little interlude about just having to trust your companions. Cause that can be really hard! And I think other episodes both previous and ones to come really illustrate how Frieren chooses to trust her friends, rather than worry about them.
I read several sources claiming that Madhouse animators hired actual dancing couple for the dance scene, which they to animate by hand. Also Evan Call created specially for this scene the waltz.
My question is, why is Kim still not cosplaying as Flamme? All you need is a loose braid and a bedsheet for costume, and you're done. Perfect Flamme cosplay.
Episodes 1-4 are episode 1 (jumbo sized), so everyone's always thrown off trying to count down to a new OP for a new cour. If I remember correctly, it actually took some time for depictions of the goddess to appear in the manga, so the anime had the advantage of being able to plan out and insert a more complete iconography from episode 1 onwards. The setting designer really wanted to depict a lived in world, and her twitter feed had cool production notes ready each week after the episodes aired.
hello from Japan. Just watching you two puts a smile on my face. Her joyful and happy reactions especially make me feel like I can share in that happiness too.Tnaks.
You two are so much fun to watch! Let me share with you my headcanon for the soiree scene: the night is filled with fine food and drink, beautiful people in fine clothes, music, dancing... and as he watches the kids wordlessly opening up and becoming more comfortable with each other, Sein starts to think, for just a moment, that maybe Frieren *IS* the type of onee-san he likes. She looks lovely in her party dress with her hair all done up, and he's caught up in the (figurative) magic of the evening, so he asks her to dance. Frieren, being immune/oblivious to the aforementioned metaphorical enchantment, immediately shuts him down and crams a piece of cake into her mouth. The look on his face right after that shows that he's not disappointed, exactly, but there's kind of a wistful sense of something like, "oh... right. That was silly of me." So there's still nothing there to ship, but our boy Sein is coming to understand the depth and nuance of this weird not-an-old-lady he's been traveling with. It's a nice moment that I think actually really complements the powerful developments happening just a few feet away in the construction of the S.S. Fark - it reminds the audience that not every relationship needs to be romantic in order to have depth and value. Anyway, great reaction as always. I really look forward to your weekly uploads. Thanks for sharing the journey with us. 🥰
Episode 1-4 kinda counts as 1 episode, that's why Frieren ran for 28 instead of 24 episode. So the midpoint of the season is on episode 16 hence why the OP hasn't changed yet.
Me gusta mucho vuestro canal, aunque me gustaría contenido mas seguido y menos cortes en el capitulo, pero os seguire viendo, mucha suerte y saludos desde España!!
I absolutely adore Graf Granat and Lord Orden, both great fathers and rulers. I can't even imagine how much pain they have to endure, losing their sons by demons while staying strong to lead their domains.
i've just discovered your channel, and you guys are so cute! kim seems like the kinda person whose smile brightens the day of others. i bet your friends and family feel lucky you're in their lives
Finally! Been checking in on this channel for multiple times already for when this next episode is coming out even though I already had the notification bell on already 😆
The moment I first saw how cloth and hair was animated in this show, I knew the studio was not holding back. Stark and Fern's dance is another great example of how good their animators are.
The (Himmel x Frieren) ship that refused to sail, is going to be overwritten by the (Stark x Fern) which is well under sail. Heck, those two almost act like a married couple.
idk ur names im new to ur channel but i love ur frieren reactions, and i dont know if anybody told u that but the woman on the right has very voice actress ish voice
Nope. They weren't even that close to the village at that time, they were travelling still. Fern being sleepy was an anime only addition, probably to hint at what was to come.
Other comment already explain it but i like to add. Just like god in real world always depicted with humanly appereance cause we create them. The goddess in Frieren's world depicted with elfly appereance cause elf is the oldest race to start a civilzation and the one who create the religion.
youtube delete again the comment, sorry for spamming your notifications i actually only want you to know: The complete dance scene was hand drawn and the sketches can be watched on twitter. Madhouse hire professional dancer that the animators can witness the movement of a real Waltz. Evan Call developed for this scenery a whole new waltz. And Sein just get cake-zoned. i hope we see in the next season how the relationship between Stark and Fern grow more..
I really like the world building in this episode with the magic of the Goddess and we see that the Goddess is an elf. How cool. The magic of the Goddess if different from human magic that Flamme started and demons have their own magic that they use. I feel that Goddess and Demon magic have been around a long time with human magic really taking off in the past 1000 years or so. I think the offering to the goddess show was to show that the villagers were asleep for a few days. Stark and Fern's relationship growing a bit closer....
Flamme was the one responsible for magic to spread out among humans but she wasn't the one who "started" this type of magic. Remember, flamme learned magic from Serie.
The first half of the episode is easily over-looked compared to the soiree. If Sein hadn't been in their party, either Frieren would have insisted upon leaving the village immediately or the journey and their lives would have ended there.
Atsuko Tanaka, the voice actress who played the role of Flamme, passed away recently. May she rest in peace.
really sad, also the va of the beloved konan from naruto.
konan the barbarian
At what age? She was that old?

I love that they gave that to us and went into such lengths to make the dance impactful
There is an extra panel art of their dance. Some of those small details extra arts was added to anime.

Atsuko Tanaka flamme's VA Died recently I love her in the Ghost in the shell R.I.P Major motoko 😭
Fern and Stark are so adorable together ❤.
I absolutely adore Graf Granat and Lord Orden, both great fathers and rulers. I can't even imagine how much pain they have to endure, losing their sons by demons while staying strong to lead their domains.
Big World War I vibes in terms of nobility and losing an entire generation of heirs and sons

That dance was one of my favorite scenes. I remember I cheered embarrassingly loud that everyone in the house heard. I regret nothing.
Frieren friday yay! :D
Dude imagine if Frieren also took a long time to wake up like she did every morning. They'd all be dead lmao.
The moment I first saw how cloth and hair was animated in this show, I knew the studio was not holding back. Stark and Fern's dance is another great example of how good their animators are.
if we got a nickel for every wonderfully animated soiree composed with music by Evan Call, we'd have two nickels etc etc.
I was desperately waiting for this to drop 🥲
Thank you for sharing 😊
Keep those little outtakes in they are funny 😂
The Goddess was already shown to be an elf in episode 11 when we met Kraft. I think you guys forgot about it or failed to notice she had elf ears.
flamme will always be legend😢😢😢😢😢
The father, sadly seeing who should be his son😢
The intro 🤣😭😭
This is cinema...
The Throne Elf lore is hilarious~
"I love Sein so much" ... I'm gonna tell them... XD
Don't you dare!
Fern apparently double-shotgunning donuts will never not be funny.
Orden and Stark become closure to each other
Wow, you got Renly Baratheon to join the reaction
The (Himmel x Frieren) ship that refused to sail, is going to be overwritten by the (Stark x Fern) which is well under sail. Heck, those two almost act like a married couple.
The OP wont change until episode 16 since the first 4 episodes released the same day, so technically the end of the first "season" is episode 16.
"Im always on" 😂
Fern likes stark so much...saying that this doesn't suit him is like saying she prefers him for himself
idk ur names im new to ur channel but i love ur frieren reactions, and i dont know if anybody told u that but the woman on the right has very voice actress ish voice
you two are so cute
fern was sleepy at the start of the episode because she was already unknowingly falling to the curse the closer they got to the village
Nope. They weren't even that close to the village at that time, they were travelling still. Fern being sleepy was an anime only addition, probably to hint at what was to come.
Next episode is Oldman Vol right?😢

8:26 when novices fight higher level monsters but you got a 2nd job maxed out lvl and stats in your party lol
Shoutouts to tiny sickle
Don’t worry there will be a new OP soon ;)
