Hear me out, what if when they finally get to the place where souls dwell, Himmel isn’t there, and we discover the demons have resurrected and summoned the demon-king, but instead of what the heroes fought….it’s Himmel, as the demons raided his grave and stole his body to act as a vessel.
@@entropy417 nonsensical. Travel to the south and raid a grave quietly and travel back north to install Himmels corpse as demon king all without anyone noticing? First of all, doesn't sound demonic and why wait 80 years?
"Tearful goodbye isn't our style." "I'll be embarrassed when I see you again." If you remember these things and rewatch the first episode, you may discover something new!
The last scene with Himmel turning his back with the cape is the same we see in his funeral. Only after this scene Frieren started crying realizing that they won't see each other again, so she won't be embarrassed . She remembered the "embarrassing line " on Himme's funeral. Such scenes is why I was over the moon when I realized Keiichirou Saitou is returning back as a DIR for 2nd season - those were not in the manga.
Also it might tie in to her intial reaction to Eisen request "I don't want to particulary see him right now" most probably cause it would be embarrasing after she cried at his funeral.
My favorite part of watching reactions for this show is comments like these. I am continually astounded by clever little details and connections like this. Super cool stuff!
Honestly, there's only one scene in the manga that was missing from the anime that I regretted the lack (it was related to the field of flowers, and may yet be a spoiler). The director added a lot, and it will be great to have them back.
@@firsealtonberry9712 could you tell it here with a disclaimer that it's a spoiler? I wanna know as I may get to the manga only in the distant future.
@@feral_fenrir Let me make it very extended... . . . . .. . spoiler . .. . . . . . . . When Flamme first brings up the Field of Flowers spell, in the lead up to Frieren taking out Aura, it isn't Flamme talking with Frieren like in the anime or her time with Serie. Flamme allows herself to remember her parents teaching her to make flowers, and her happy life before the demons destroyed them. Which is the only confirmation that Flamme actually knew some magic before she met Serie, and how absolutely happy she once was. Its only a panel or so, but it is to my memory one of only two pure moments of Flamme's POV, and a flashback of her life before humans generally openly used magic or before Serie taught any human. It is one of only two times Flamme appeared happy (the other being in Serie's memory). I remember it because Flamme being happy is rare enough to be a dagger in the heart.
No wonder Ubel couldn't empathise with him. If she was a corpo employee, she'd be the micromanaging executive that likes to stare into people's eyes while she's firing them on the spot.
Serie is basically that dad that doesn't want a pet and is very vocal about it, but then few days later would pamper it and loved it more than anyone. Don't take Serie's words at face value: 1) She said she doesn't want to lead the association and yet she became one. 2) She said she's disappointed with her students and shouldn't have taught them and yet when saw Fern's potential, immediately recruits her as her student. 3) She said the flowerbed-making spell is useless and yet she conjured it in remembrance of Flamme. She doesn't like the loneliness of getting connected to short-lived humans, her actions just show how much she loves them.
Serie never said anything about any association. She didn't want to take over the training of the imperial mages and SHE NEVER DID. A thousand years later she CREATED her OWN magic association.
@@boboyo3140Serie did say that she didn't want to be leading the magic association. That was in Flamme's request to her, and Serie initially scoffed at that idea saying that Magic should not be openly taught to Humans or something along those lines
@@susbedo9258 there was NO magic association, magic had just been allowed in the land, Flamme asked her to take over the teaching of THE IMPERIAL MAGES, and Serie refused to do that because she didn't want magic to spread throughout the whole land, since to Serie magic should be something special that only talented people should wield. Later on, Serie FOUNDED the continental magic association, an organization of her own and she remained true to her words about only teaching magic to those she views as talented: the first class mages
@@boboyo3140 you're right on a technical level but missing the emotional nuance of it. Serie is the type to do something in a way where she'll say "I'm not doing what my failure student said. This is a totally DIFFERENT organization" so she can be petty and also tie together the conflicting parts of her emotions and logic
@@vermilionrubin Oooo, I like that, considering she is the centre point of all her students, just like Aether is the element that binds all the other elements. Very good observation!
And so here we are. Someone mentioned serie mightve inflicted the 1000y ban to have frieren be recorded into the history of the magic association without being certified. She was probably just being petty but that sounds cool. Also loved Starks parallel to Himmel. An epic 1st class nage exam happening. But all the people will remember is the kind and helpful red haired warrior.
A bittersweet end. Of the season, and watching both of you together. Thanks for sticking around until this ends. Hopefully you guys are still good and can get together for future videos every now and then st some point. Until then, I'll keep watching.
hi there !! thank you so much for watching this beautiful series with us ! we can promise you john and i are still best friends, he just wants to pursue other things with his time! it honestly means the world to me that you will want to watch with me in the future though :’) thank you so much for your support !
@@FTF-Media I Would probably not watch shonen if you react to it but I would 100% react to other things, and Hopefully in the distant future you guys might react together again with the second season of Frieren :)
I am Japanese.” Thanks for watching the “Funeral Freelen” video at the same time. I enjoyed watching it to the end. The committee is currently working on the second phase of the project. It looks like it will be difficult by the end of this year, so it will be around the year after next. I look forward to seeing another video that will make you happy. Thank you so much!ありがとう!
i must say... as someone who watches a ton of reaction content, you guys are definitely top tier. WAY BETTER than 99% of the reactors out there. this Frieren reaction series has been nothing short of incredible sad to see John go, you guys have such good chemistry. I hope he can still come back as a guest for season 2. but either way looking forward to watching more shows with Kim also... +1 for violet evergarden suggestion
Really sad John is not going to be in front of the camera any more, the chemistry you both have when watching is very enjoyable to see. I'll still tune in and support Kim, but John you will be missed incredibly, thank you.
hi there :) thank you for your kind words! it is bittersweet for us too, but i am happy for john and will always support his decisions! thank you so much for wanting to watch future shows with me, your support really means so much to me :’)
That quote makes the first episode hit even harder - Frieren finally cried at Himmel's funeral because she realized they'd never see each other again.. 💔
"There's no fear there though" - Its always nice when a reactor fully gets why Methode passed, so many other reactors fail to realize it and wonder/are confused why she passed. She is as much a monster as the rest. Nice job!
Just like Frieren is retracing her journey with new friends and new perspective, it was really good to do the same while sharing the experience with you guys.
Hi guys! It was a good catch realising Lernen was the one who made the golems. It was very nice watching you two experiencing Frieren for the first time. You are too cute with your jokes and being surprised at every line of dialog. And thanks, John for staying untill the end. I won't give you a long farewell, for it would be embarrassing when we meet again. ❤
Going to talk about Lernen since he's really cool (and acts as a parallel to Fern), and everyone else has already said everything I wanted to say about everything else, in a way that's way better than how I could've said it. Lernen is probably the most powerful Human mage alive right now, though Fern is definitely looking like she'll be taking that spot soon. The narrative comparisons between Lernen and Fern begin even before we're introduced to Lernen himself - In the first test, when Fern fights Ehre, Ehre says that Fern fights like her grandfather, who she later promises to introduce Wirbel to if he fails the exam, as her Grandfather is a first class mage. In the end credits, we see her introducing Wirbel to Lernen, who turns out to be her Grandfather. Even before that, he recognises the holy symbol carried by Frieren, instantly recognising that she must be an incredibly powerful mage. This event shows just how knowledgeable about magic he is, and is part of the foreshadowing for the 3rd exam, in which Fern instantly recognises that Serie suppresses her mana so she must be even more powerful. This is also foreshadowed by Lernen's recognition of Frieren suppressing her own mana and his inability to see Serie suppressing hers, a parallel to Fern not knowing the meaning of Frieren's Holy Symbol. This is an amazing way to build up the audience's perception of both the power of Fern and the power of Lernen. Another point about Lernen's sheer strength is that he seems to very clearly surpass all of the other first class mages and it isn't even close. The PROTOTYPE golems he made for the 2nd exam are so powerful that they can break walls that Denken's Catastravia spell cannot even scratch, and block attacks from Sense's replica without taking any damage, they can also cast the Goddess' magic which is a completely different magic system that he doesn't even specialise in, AND HE MADE 18 OF THEM. He is also seems to be the most observant of the first class mages, he's the only one that can actually see Frieren's suppression, which Falsch initially thinks is impossible. He also straight up nearly kills Frieren with his own version of Zoltraak (we haven't ever seen Zoltraak physically draw in light like it did when he fired it at Frieren, not to mention Frieren's defense spells would definitely stop ordinary/original Zoltraak). But yeah, Lernen is very powerful but also very underrated, and is actually really important to the narrative development of Fern and other characters, even if he doesn't seem so at first.
He's also a pretty tragic character, done in by his and Serie's mutual emotional awkwardness. He's the best in the world at what he does, at least among humans, and has absolutely no real confidence in himself because of those emotional walls Serie put up between them. (And she only did it because she doesn't understand the affection and pride she feels for her students.)
@@StonetheDestroyer42 Oh yes absolutely, I can only hope that Serie starts to open up to her students more as a result of her conversation with Frieren.
What Lernen was firing was definitely not the Zoltraak version. It's not a beam, but some kind of dark energy blobs, traveling at a finite speed that can be dodged. It's a good thing that Frieren is experienced enough to know that she needs to start dodging right away instead of relying on defense alone. There was no way Serie could have given him this spell, as the defense against Zoltraak spell itself was a relatively recent development. It is most definitely his own design for breaking through defenses. He's a genius at developing new magic.
Fly high, John 🕊🕊🕊 But for real now, thank you both very much for the amazing reactions, ive had a blast ever since you guys began watching Frieren. And even if its just Kim from now on, im very excited to see how far this channel goes. Thank you both very much.

I’m from Taiwan and have totally fallen in love with this anime. I want to share a touching story from Taiwan with you all. Recently, there was a random knife attack on the Taichung Metro. Thankfully, a brave bystander jumped in, grabbed the knife, and stopped the attacker, so only three people were injured and taken to the hospital. A few days later, this hero, who got hurt on his face while stopping the attacker, was honored by the mayor. He said, “If it were Himmel, he would’ve done the same.”
Over a year ago, Episode 1-4 released. Ever since then, Frieren's been sitting pretty at #1 on MAL with an insane score of 9.32%. An entire year, and it's dominated every other favorites. People who claim "it's just flavor of the month" were proven wrong. See you all in Season 2.
I love it when Frieren repeat what Himmel said: tearful goodbye isnt our style, Fern asked what is that, emphasized that they still young, do understand the depth of this phrase. it really amazing, that Himmel reach such maturity in such a young age.😃
Before the last episode, I thought Fern seemed disassociated about being Frieren's student. Maybe knowing she only took her on as a pupil bc Heiter tricked her, she was unsure about their relationship. Like when Richter asked "You're Frieren's kid, right?", she never affirmed it. But then she discovered the staff was fixed and later proclaimed "I'm Ms. Frieren's student". Fern's look and smile @16:11 when Frieren says "That's my student" meant a lot to me
So happy I went with you on the greatest journey so far. I loved every minute of it. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. It makes me very happy to see Frieren: beyond journey's end make somebody else happy. Much love from all of here. I hope to see you back again very soon with a new journey to take us on. You're wonderful company.
"I taught many students after Fllame. Most died without ever reaching my level." I hadn't caught this last time. "MOST"?! There's students that are ON SERIE'S LEVEL?!?? Great reaction by the way, you two are very sincere and have great chemistry together. Looking forward to the next adventures you two decide to share with us! ♥
Thanks for sharing your reactions to the series. It’s always special seeing other people resonate with a story as much as yourself. See you in season 2 ❤
(Spoiler-free) Important Lore that a lot of people get wrong [Part 1 of 2] Short version; Visualization is important, but it's not the be-all-end-all and Frieren doesn't fall for mimics. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Long version; (I) The magic system and especially the thing about visualization A spoiler-free explanation of the magic system in the Frieren world is as follows: There are 4 components to a mage's magic-casting in the Frieren world: (1) Mana: How much mana/magical-energy they have. Note that other than a mage's initial mana-capacity, which is affected by the following; (a) PROBABLY genetics and/or the acquired skills/traits of the parents (ie, mana in each of the parents when the child was conceived and maybe even the mother's mana until birth). This is because mana seems to be inherited to some extent (eg, Ehre benefitting from being Lernen's granddaughter). (b) MAYBE their race (ie, demon vs elf vs dwarf vs human). However, it's unknown how this affects the initial mana-capacity (eg, Flamme in her 20s-30s? and Aura in her 500+ years of age, had similar amounts of mana). (c) Other currently unknown factors (eg, maybe the Goddess' Blessing since Heiter had a ton of mana even in his 20s?). a mage's mana-capacity is directly proportional to the amount of time that they have been training it (which correlates to their age). Also, mana has other uses than just being the 'fuel' for spell-casting. Specifically, mages with lots of mana have additional benefits compared to 'normal' members of their race. This point will be further expanded upon in a later arc as well. (2) Control: How much mana and how precisely they can control it. This also includes controlling spells after they've been fired off (eg, Frieren curving her Basic Offensive Magic around Fern's Basic Defensive Magic in their practice duel). Note that even raw mana can be used to achieve simple yet effective results if a mage has a high degree of control (eg, Frieren defending her neck against Draht's wire). This point will be further expanded upon in a later arc as well. Another very important case of mana control, is the act of limiting output. Any decent mage (with a good amount of mana control) can temporarily limit their mana (for the purpose of surprising a foe). This is called Concealment. It's basically a mage reducing their mana output from 100% to as close to 0% as they can, while they try to sneak attack an enemy. However, after the sneak attack, there is no value to doing this, since an enemy with magical abilities can probably detect that the attacker is reducing their mana output from the fluctuations seen through mana detection (and even the attacker's unconcealed mana level can be detected, thus making the limiting completely useless at this point). Examples: (a) Fern sneak attacking Lugner in S01E08. (b) Lugner sneak attacking Fern in S01E09. Suppression, on the other hand, is the technique of limiting your mana output at all times (to say 10%). This is a useful technique because it can easily create situations where your enemies underestimate you. A mage that performs Suppression, can also do Concealment and how that works is as follows: They reduce from 10% to as close to 0% as they can, and then go back to 10% after they lift their Concealment. Now, the reason why Suppression isn't feasible for most HUMANs (and here I literally mean just humans and not dwarves and definitely not elves) is that to be able to fool demons and monsters, you either need to be very talented at mana control like Flamme and Fern, or have a very long amount of time (ie, at least a few centuries) to practice Suppression and reduce the fluctuations as much as possible like Serie and Frieren. Thus, making this technique not worth it, since the return for your time-investment is so little. As Serie says, you're better off training other things. As for why Suppression is a dishonesty and a mockery of magic, consider the following examples, which are somewhat equivalent to what mages practicing this technique are doing: (a) A black-belt joining a white-belt martial-arts tournament. (b) A soldier disguising themself as a civilian, and then attacking a target. Basically, mages performing Suppression are hiding their power to intentionally create situations where their opponent is led to underestimating them. This would make them dishonest, but also shows them to be not truly proud of their achievements in magic to be confronting their foes straight-on with their full force and without trickery. (3) Spell: The magical formulas that they know and are able to use. Examples: Basic Offensive/Defensive Magic, Reelseiden. Note that the spell formula dictates what is possible or impossible. Examples: (a) Basic Offensive Magic cannot pierce dragon scales or Basic Defensive Magic, regardless of the attacker's visualization. Otherwise, Frieren would've taught Fern how to do it when she asked Fern to attack the Solar Dragon in S01E05 in the former case, and Basic Defensive Magic would actually be useless in the latter case. (b) Frieren's spell to clean a bronze statue not being usable for a stone statue. If it was purely a visualization based system, then there is absolutely no reason for why Frieren wouldn't be able to use the folk spell in S01E16 to clean Kraft's & Unknown-Priest's statues. (4) Visualization: Needed to activate/use a spell since a mage cannot make something happen if they can't clearly/exactly picture the desired outcome. Note that to clearly/exactly picture an outcome, one needs to have a complete understanding of said outcome. Therefore, they should have a complete understanding of the process that created that specific outcome/result as well (since only understanding an outcome without understanding the generating process, will be incomplete at best and flawed at worst). This is pretty much how it is in real life as well. Furthermore, a weak visualization can weaken a spell, but a strong visualization cannot strengthen a spell. Examples: (a) Regardless of Aura's visualization, her scales were already tilting towards Frieren, even though Aura was unaware that Frieren had more mana at that point. If it was a purely visualization based system, then Aura would've been able to dominate/control anyone including Frieren. (b) Ubel's visualization is ONLY taking advantage of Reelseiden's formula to cut anything in a 5? meter radius. Even she is unable to fully maximize the spell, since she cannot visualize cutting Basic Defensive Magic. However, she can visualize cutting more things than most people, so she's still a very proficient user of this spell. -------------------------------------------------- In summary, the visualization component of magic is just like in real life; you will surely fail if you have a 'bad' mindset, but a 'good' mindset does NOT guarantee success (ie, a 'good' mindset is a necessary, but insufficient condition for success since external factors are still a thing). Visualization is important, but it's not the be-all-end-all. Spells determine what's possible or not, and a mage's visualization can make them achieve between 0% to 100% of a spell's potential. They cannot just bs visualize/imagine themself into winning and/or doing the impossible.
Important lore that a lot of people get wrong [Part 2 of 2] Also, there is technically one more component, which may fall under Control, but since I'm not convinced that it definitely does (and also because it's not completely crucial for just casting magic alone as a singular mage), I've written it below as a separate point: (5) Detection: How accurately a mage can detect mana in a certain radius with themself at the center. This is extremely important for battle, since it relates to: (a) Finding hidden enemies (who are probably concealing their mana). (b) Becoming aware of surprise attacks not caught by the physical senses (eg, being shot from behind). (c) Not underestimating a strong foe who's pretending to be weaker than they are (ie, mages who suppress their mana like Serie, Flamme, Frieren, and Fern). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The above info is from: S01E02: First half of the episode with Frieren teaching Fern. S01E03: Second half of the episode on Killing Magic. S01E05: Second half of the episode with the Solar Dragon. S01E08: Pretty much all of it. :) S01E09: Pretty much all of it. :) S01E10: Pretty much all of it. :) S01E15: First half of the episode on Goddess' Magic. S01E16: Second half of the episode with the statue cleaning quest. S01E20: Pretty much all of it. :) S01E21: Pretty much all of it. :) S01E26: Pretty much all of it. :) S01E27: Second half of the episode with the CMA heads meeting. (CMA = Continental Magic Association & CMA heads = Serie + 1st class mages) S01E28: Credits showing Ehre introducing Lernen to Wirbel (specifically, 23:37-23:30), which combined with the info from S01E20 (specifically, 14:50-14:55), allows us to conclude that Lernen is Ehre's grandfather. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finally, there are a few additional minor notes for points 2 and 3 (ie, Control and Spell) that I have not included due to being spoilers for anime-onlys. (II) Frieren vs Mimics Putting aside jokes and memes, I have seen far too many people and even video essays on TH-cam (some of which claiming to be serious analysis types) thinking/saying that Frieren falls for mimics. However, the truth is; Frieren doesn't fall for mimics. She chooses to take the risk when it's safe to do so (ie, outside of battle situations) because she doesn't lose anything of value (and because the mimic-check spell is only 99% accurate). Specifically, she loses a little time while in the mimic and then later when fixing her hair (but she doesn't care about that because she has practically infinite time), and suffers a little reputation damage (but she doesn't care about how others view her all that much). On the other hand, she may gain something (eg, maybe the shaved-ice spell shown in the flashback in S01E06). In summary, she loses nothing and may gain something so why not try them all?
This ending hit like a brick truck when I first watched the show. It's like saying goodbye to friends you've grown to love. Even if it's not a forever goodbye :)
hei! i've been watching you two reacting to this show, and i have to say you two are one of my most favorite show reactor ever! your reaction, emotion and excitement on this show is soo genuine and it really entertains me. so far it's been fun watching frieren all over again with you two. Keep up the good work! 😃
Gosh you guys made me tear up like I watched the last episode of Frieren for the first time, I can't tell how much I'm happy to see people watch this amazing show! You guys are the best, it's something to have journey like this with you two. And love the Frieren piercing!
The tragedy of Lernen. His justification for trying to kill Frieren: "If I die without accomplishing anything, Serie will be even more lonely after my death because there is nothing worth remembering me for."
I've been really enjoying your commentary for the entire Frieren journey! If I can add a recommendaion for a new show, I'd recommend Eighty-Six. It has some really great story-telling and one of my favorite shows to watch as well as have people react to. Looking forward to whateer you guys watch in the future, cheers!
I’m glad I’m not the only one that had questions about the way they worded the episode title lol. Thanks a lot for the journey, y’all! Hopefully we can see John again when season 2 comes around
I really like to watch people's reaction to stuffs that I like but I don't usually left any comments about it. I just want to say that your reactions are so good! You both get really invested in each episode and actually pay attention to the story. I feel like some other reactors sometime don't appreciate what they are watching, so is very nice to seeyou two enjoying Frieren so much!
26:01 - "Seeing the beauty of magic for the first time" - That boy was not looking at those flowers for a second, he was staring at Frieren the entire time.
After this episode, we can better understand Serie as the ultimate tsundere. Said mana suppression is useless; Suppresses her mana anyway (even better than Frieren) Said flower magic is pointless; Conjure a field of flowers around her to admire (and misses Flamme) Said won't accept Flamme's will to take over teaching human magic; Found the continental magic association after procrastinating for 1000 years Said mana suppression is inefficient; but also said those without innate TALENT wouldn't even be able to trick demons (i.e. acknowledges Flamme is super talented) Said Flamme is a student raised on a whim; but also said she won't teach anyone without talent, remembers her wish as a little kid, surround herself with the flowers created by her favourite spell even after 1000 years. If you rewatch the conversation between Serie and Frieren after Flamme's death, Serie's words were nothing short of a beautiful eulogy for Flamme - her favourite student. And not just Flamme, she knows Sense and Lernen. Told Sense she messed up the 2nd exam (but did not blame her) but APPOLOGIZED to her after she did find talented mage from the pack. The words she told Frieren at the end, you can just tell she feels the feeling to her students, but like Frieren, she does not really know what that means to her -- the most Elf thing they share. I have never been so wrong about a character -- from the fearsome Throne-Elf before anything; to the cold-hearted magic elitist when Flamme brought Frieren to her to the caring great mage who cares everyone of her students :)
That Himmel quote is really fitting for John's farewell. Like what John has said, this channel has a bright future that lies ahead. Maybe you might try reacting to the most anticipated ongoing anime like Dandandan or a classic masterpiece like Death Note. But, most importantly, John should come back to react with you again if they ever make Frieren S2 :)
This is not a farewell but a see you again. Thank you guys for reacting to Frieren. I hope for the best on John and looking forward to what Kim is going to react to next on the channel! Love you all.
The word "Beautiful" probably describes Frieren the most. Not only visually (aesthetics, animation), or audibly (Evan Call is a genius), but the story is so god damn beautiful.
We see so many parallels between Frieren/Himmel and Fern/Stark and this episode cements that even more. Fern choosing that spell and that Stark is loved by the people.
Ah frieren is quite the journey, been great experiencing this with yall. John, thanks for watching with us, and good luck with whatever you do from here, and feel free to drop back by anytime. Kim, glad to have found the channel, will be sticking around from here, looking forward to whatever is next.

Just to put it out there: I think you two reacting to "Eighty-Six" would be absolute peak and fit incredibly well (just a feeling). I really enjoyed to rewatch Frieren with you guys and hearing your thoughts as it went along! Thanks for all the content!
the timing of that last ending OST is so awkward that you know this is the last episode but you wish it will be longer but the realization that the episode will only last as long as 2 minutes will always get me on tears. This last episode I expected that this will hit them but I did not expect John tearing up. This really hits hard Good luck on your next journey John! No goodbyes, it will be embarassing if we meet again.. in season 2, or in the comment section
The "embarrassing when we met again" applies to the entire mission that Frieren, Fern and Stark are on- to see Himmel, Heiter and the others who have died (including Flamme). All of these dead companions who they will, eventually, meet again. The final shot of HImmel walking into the light is, of course, the same shot from his funeral. Lernen, the mage who attacked Frieren, is also the one who made the golems (as you noted). All of the scenes at the end, including the montage of graves (Himmel's, Heiter's, Flamme's, and even Eisen praying at the markers to his family) were very touching. The place where Himmel and his party first met Frieren is also there. A really beautiful series. Hopefully, S2 will be out next year.
it’s funny how you named every single character who could say this phrase but forgot about the one guy who taught Frieren and us all those lessons even tho he died so many years ago that was such a perfect and beautiful touch to end the season Himmel is truly a masterpiece of a character and so is Frieren and it was great to relive those moments watching it with you guys
I was expecting for this moment for a long time, but at the same time I didn't want it to come, specially having to say goodbye to John. Thank you for the journey until here, guys. I'll miss John a lot! Wish him much success in his adventure and I hope that he comes back exceptionally for season 2. I'm ready to keep following with you, Kim! I even watched Solo Leveling because of you. I'm excited for what we'll have to watch together from now on!
so happy to be here to watch this last beautiful series with the two of you, I'll keep supporting in every way I can! Thank you John for being a part of this for so long, I hope everything goes well in your own journey, and see you, Kim, on the next anime! 💜
This anime has changed so many lives, including my own. It gave me the courage to reconnect with my family. Every time I see Himmel walking into the light I cry like a baby. And I'm not embarrassed about it in the slightest. Also, I'm a little upset Kim didn't cosplay as Flamme. It would be so easy for you :D Also, subscribed and hoping for Violet Evergarden at some point :)
VERY MUCH enjoyed watching your reaction to Frieren, I love that you guys are so passionate and emotional about this show because I love this show too! Definitely going to check out other reactions from other shows in the future. Keep it up y'all!!! ❤
Wishing John all the best, won't get too emotional about it, after all it would be embarrassing when we meet again for season 2 👀 if he's available of course 😅. I would like to say I've really enjoyed these reactions and I look forward to seeing Kim continue FMA:B
I have watched many reaction channels on Frieren, but you two just "get" the show the most and with such enthusiasm and attention to details that this show deserves as well. A dialogue is much better than a monologue imo, I think we will miss John's participation.
I wonder whether Fern was thinking of Lugner when she chose that spell to receive from Serie? That demon was able to track Stark and Fern through the mana in his blood that he put on their clothes. This spell would keep that from happening again, and no doubt, there are other tracking spells that involve putting mana on people's clothing or objects, possibly using some medium other than blood. Theoretically, this spell could also provide a way to counter that. Lugner and Linie were defeated, but those battles could easily have gone the other way.
✨ *Can't wait for season 2. The following arcs are hyped af as well in a fantasy perspective so much so on the feels. Glad you guys reacted to Frieren.* 💕
Crying for the end but its not the end also so happy i found your channel, cant wait for the Polls HxH is a must! Dr Stone is a good one too . Kim you will do great and def following for the long term✨ Ready to see John hyping on the comments lol Watching all the way from Nicaragua💖
There was a mentally-illed person attacked people in subway in Taiwan earlier this year. It was a big news because there were rarely any incidents there.. the incident was stopped by a heroic passengers, and one of the young man got a slash on his face while doing so. The reporters later asked him how he found the courage to put him self in danger.. and his answer was literally: “This is what Hero Himmel would have done”
Thank you so much for reacting and sharing - and telling us about the future lineup and future of this channel. I'm not anime watcher normally but I follow along with anything that catches my eye - this is one of the best react channels and is worthy of following and if I find anything again this is a much watch channel. I hope you two reunite for Frieren season 2 but no worries if not.
oh my gosh, your words are so very kind :’) that honestly means so much to both john and me ! thank you for watching along with us and i hope you will join me in the future too :)
Thanks for sharing your journey through Frieren S1 with us! I really appreciated listening to the reactions of both of you! Kim, when you continue on your anime journey, please watch Spice & Wolf, if you like Frieren, you'll like that as well, especially best girl Holo. 🙂🐺
It was a mere 28 episode adventure
SHUT UP 😭😭😭😭😭
A mere 28 episode season. The adventure is not yet over.
That mere 28 episodes changes us all.
"Tearful goodbye isn't our style."
Everyone watching the last ep sobbing like crazy.
And then did it say it continues and i only think "damn i cant stop even it will be embarassing then i watch season 2"
"Tearful goodbye isn't our style."
"I'll be embarrassed when I see you again."
If you remember these things and rewatch the first episode, you may discover something new!
You sit in s thrones of lies i have allergic reactions to the episode my eyes water easily
"Tearful goodbye isn't our style." Then why am I crying?
For the third time...
@GeneraliE I watched this scene over than 3 times. 😭but still get me every time.
@@GeneraliEthose are rookie numbers!
@wilpalkia not my fault if I start a lot of reaction videos, so I have like 5 rewatch at the same time 😭
@GeneraliE yess. I watched React videos because I don't want to forget.

Land did the whole test online. Dude really liked a WFH setup.
i honestly think this was the coolest reveal^^
No wonder Ubel couldn't empathise with him. If she was a corpo employee, she'd be the micromanaging executive that likes to stare into people's eyes while she's firing them on the spot.
Absolute unit.
Need to know his provider, having reception way down in the bottom levels of the second test was impressive
@wiredrayne it was a Land line.
Serie is basically that dad that doesn't want a pet and is very vocal about it, but then few days later would pamper it and loved it more than anyone.
Don't take Serie's words at face value:
1) She said she doesn't want to lead the association and yet she became one.
@@boboyo3140 Face it, she's the tsundere of all tsundere's lol
Serie's student memory montage goes water, air, and earth. Add Flamme and then you have fire, making the classic Aristotle elements.
Possibly with Serie herself as aether/quitessence
@@vermilionrubin Oooo, I like that, considering she is the centre point of all her students, just like Aether is the element that binds all the other elements. Very good observation!
6:58 Methode manages to get her own autistic elf girl, since Fern wouldn't share.
Nobody asks Fern. The elf has the price tag, and is not ashamed of it.
lmfao yes
And so here we are.
Someone mentioned serie mightve inflicted the 1000y ban to have frieren be recorded into the history of the magic association without being certified. She was probably just being petty but that sounds cool.
Also loved Starks parallel to Himmel. An epic 1st class nage exam happening. But all the people will remember is the kind and helpful red haired warrior.
And sounds alot like her, doing something good in a mean way.
My handcanon for the ban was because Frieren broke Serie's barrier and she was salty.
@@adamvillegas5040 that probably is a part of it, serie is incredibly petty
Also she might have been embarassed that Frieren made her talk openly about her feelings towards her students
@@adamvillegas5040lol Serie does NOT care about that stuff. She didn't like the fact that Frieren made her talk about her feelings

That quote makes the first episode hit even harder - Frieren finally cried at Himmel's funeral because she realized they'd never see each other again.. 💔
"tearful goodbye isn't our style"
-Himmel
thank you so much for your incredibly kind comment :) !! it really means the world to john and me :’)
100% true thx!!!
Lernen is my favorite character in Frieren (anime only) and you hit the nail on the head. Thank you
He's also a pretty tragic character, done in by his and Serie's mutual emotional awkwardness.
The way she remembers her students 😢😢 a truly awkward bunch.
Fly high, John 🕊🕊🕊

I’m from Taiwan and have totally fallen in love with this anime.
I want to share a touching story from Taiwan with you all.
Recently, there was a random knife attack on the Taichung Metro. Thankfully, a brave bystander jumped in,
grabbed the knife, and stopped the attacker, so only three people were injured and taken to the hospital.
A few days later, this hero, who got hurt on his face while stopping the attacker, was honored by the mayor.
He said, “If it were Himmel, he would’ve done the same.”
“Himmel the Hero loved stopping knife attacks.🙂” - Frieren probably
Over a year ago, Episode 1-4 released.
Ever since then, Frieren's been sitting pretty at #1 on MAL with an insane score of 9.32%. An entire year, and it's dominated every other favorites. People who claim "it's just flavor of the month" were proven wrong.
See you all in Season 2.
Himmel: Tearful goodbyes aren't our style.
The song: Crying excessively
God this anime is so good 😂
I love it when Frieren repeat what Himmel said: tearful goodbye isnt our style, Fern asked what is that, emphasized that they still young, do understand the depth of this phrase. it really amazing, that Himmel reach such maturity in such a young age.😃
Fern's look and smile @16:11 when Frieren says "That's my student" meant a lot to me
Himmel never fails to be an icon and role model
Serie said nothing to Ubel. I think she knows how this beaufitul sociopath operates.
"I get you, girl"
These Frieren reactions have made you guys my favourite reaction channel!
Most died without ever reaching my level."
I hadn't caught this last time. "MOST"?! There's students that are ON SERIE'S LEVEL?!??
Great reaction by the way, you two are very sincere and have great chemistry together. Looking forward to the next adventures you two decide to share with us! ♥
That’s what makes me insane too! No one’s ever pointed out the implication that there has been some sort of precedent of a student reaching her level!
Thanks for sharing your reactions to the series. It’s always special seeing other people resonate with a story as much as yourself. See you in season 2 ❤

(Spoiler-free) Important Lore that a lot of people get wrong [Part 1 of 2]
Short version; Visualization is important, but it's not the be-all-end-all and Frieren doesn't fall for mimics.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Long version;
(I) The magic system and especially the thing about visualization
A spoiler-free explanation of the magic system in the Frieren world is as follows:
There are 4 components to a mage's magic-casting in the Frieren world:
(1) Mana: How much mana/magical-energy they have.
Note that other than a mage's initial mana-capacity, which is affected by the following;
(a) PROBABLY genetics and/or the acquired skills/traits of the parents (ie, mana in each of the parents when the child was conceived and maybe even the mother's mana until birth).
Examples:
(a) Fern sneak attacking Lugner in S01E08.
(b) Lugner sneak attacking Fern in S01E09.
Suppression, on the other hand, is the technique of limiting your mana output at all times (to say 10%). This is a useful technique because it can easily create situations where your enemies underestimate you. A mage that performs Suppression, can also do Concealment and how that works is as follows:
They reduce from 10% to as close to 0% as they can, and then go back to 10% after they lift their Concealment.
As for why Suppression is a dishonesty and a mockery of magic, consider the following examples, which are somewhat equivalent to what mages practicing this technique are doing:
(a) A black-belt joining a white-belt martial-arts tournament.
Examples:
(a) Basic Offensive Magic cannot pierce dragon scales or Basic Defensive Magic, regardless of the attacker's visualization.
Examples:
(a) Regardless of Aura's visualization, her scales were already tilting towards Frieren, even though Aura was unaware that Frieren had more mana at that point.
--------------------------------------------------
In summary, the visualization component of magic is just like in real life; you will surely fail if you have a 'bad' mindset, but a 'good' mindset does NOT guarantee success (ie, a 'good' mindset is a necessary, but insufficient condition for success since external factors are still a thing).
Visualization is important, but it's not the be-all-end-all. Spells determine what's possible or not, and a mage's visualization can make them achieve between 0% to 100% of a spell's potential.
They cannot just bs visualize/imagine themself into winning and/or doing the impossible.
Important lore that a lot of people get wrong [Part 2 of 2]
Also, there is technically one more component, which may fall under Control, but since I'm not convinced that it definitely does (and also because it's not completely crucial for just casting magic alone as a singular mage), I've written it below as a separate point:
(5) Detection: How accurately a mage can detect mana in a certain radius with themself at the center. This is extremely important for battle, since it relates to:
(a) Finding hidden enemies (who are probably concealing their mana).
(b) Becoming aware of surprise attacks not caught by the physical senses (eg, being shot from behind).
(c) Not underestimating a strong foe who's pretending to be weaker than they are (ie, mages who suppress their mana like Serie, Flamme, Frieren, and Fern).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, there are a few additional minor notes for points 2 and 3 (ie, Control and Spell) that I have not included due to being spoilers for anime-onlys.
(II) Frieren vs Mimics
Putting aside jokes and memes, I have seen far too many people and even video essays on TH-cam (some of which claiming to be serious analysis types) thinking/saying that Frieren falls for mimics. However, the truth is;
Frieren doesn't fall for mimics.
Thanks a lot for the journey, y’all! Hopefully we can see John again when season 2 comes around
I really like to watch people's reaction to stuffs that I like but I don't usually left any comments about it. I just want to say that your reactions are so good! After this episode, we can better understand Serie as the ultimate tsundere.
Said mana suppression is useless;
Suppresses her mana anyway (even better than Frieren)
Said flower magic is pointless;
Conjure a field of flowers around her to admire (and misses Flamme)
Said won't accept Flamme's will to take over teaching human magic;
Found the continental magic association after procrastinating for 1000 years
Said mana suppression is inefficient;
but also said those without innate TALENT wouldn't even be able to trick demons (i.e. acknowledges Flamme is super talented)
Said Flamme is a student raised on a whim;
but also said she won't teach anyone without talent, remembers her wish as a little kid,
surround herself with the flowers created by her favourite spell even after 1000 years.
If you rewatch the conversation between Serie and Frieren after Flamme's death,
Serie's words were nothing short of a beautiful eulogy for Flamme - her favourite student.
And not just Flamme, she knows Sense and Lernen.
Told Sense she messed up the 2nd exam (but did not blame her)
but APPOLOGIZED to her after she did find talented mage from the pack.
The words she told Frieren at the end, you can just tell she feels the feeling to her students, but like Frieren, she does not really know what that means to her -- the most Elf thing they share.
I have never been so wrong about a character --
from the fearsome Throne-Elf before anything;
to the cold-hearted magic elitist when Flamme brought Frieren to her
to the caring great mage who cares everyone of her students :)
WHEN they make Frieren 2.
It was a brief 28 episode journey. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thank you for sharing! 😊
It's going to be embarrassing when season 2 comes around.
Ah frieren is quite the journey, been great experiencing this with yall.
John, thanks for watching with us, and good luck with whatever you do from here, and feel free to drop back by anytime.
Kim, glad to have found the channel, will be sticking around from here, looking forward to whatever is next.
Dang it! You two crying got me started too!!! Thank you for reacting to this great show!
I am Japanese
Both are wonderful
I think it's great to be able to share the excitement.
I have goot News
The second season will be aired from January next year.
I'm looking forward to seeing your wonderful reactions again.
May the Goddess bless these two wonderful people.😊
フリーレン2期の放送時期はまだ発表されていませんが、薬屋の2期と勘違いしていませんか?
😊 All the best to both of you … This was a magical ride. Thank You 🙏
I’ll be checking in, but this was very special to me.
May Himmel inspire us all.

I have watched this anime like 5 times but it always leave me in tears
me too
Just to put it out there: I think you two reacting to "Eighty-Six" would be absolute peak and fit incredibly well (just a feeling).
This really hits hard
Good luck on your next journey John!
Hopefully, S2 will be out next year.
it’s funny how you named every single character who could say this phrase but forgot about the one guy who taught Frieren and us all those lessons even tho he died so many years ago
that was such a perfect and beautiful touch to end the season
Himmel is truly a masterpiece of a character and so is Frieren
and it was great to relive those moments watching it with you guys
Loved every minute of this journey with you guys! Thank you for the entertainment, I am glad you enjoyed it!
thank you so much for watching along with john and me ! it was such a beautiful journey :’)
Hahaha the land reveal is insane bro was sat at his desk at home doing remote work... Wiiild
Thank you guys for an awesome series. Was great seeing your reactions
so happy to be here to watch this last beautiful series with the two of you, I'll keep supporting in every way I can! Thank you John for being a part of this for so long, I hope everything goes well in your own journey, and see you, Kim, on the next anime! 💜
This anime changed my life forever...
This anime has changed so many lives, including my own. It gave me the courage to reconnect with my family. Every time I see Himmel walking into the light I cry like a baby. And I'm not embarrassed about it in the slightest.
Also, I'm a little upset Kim didn't cosplay as Flamme. It would be so easy for you :D
Also, subscribed and hoping for Violet Evergarden at some point :)
What a masterpiece, loved everything about Frieren
2ndseasonが始まったらまたリアクション動画出してくださいね!楽しみにしています!
A true Hero character
Can’t wait for the next season! Very glad that it’s in production now
VERY MUCH enjoyed watching your reaction to Frieren, I love that you guys are so passionate and emotional about this show because I love this show too! Definitely going to check out other reactions from other shows in the future.
Keep it up y'all!!! ❤
your comment is so sweet and brought a huge smile to my face, thank you from both john and i :) !
Wishing John all the best, won't get too emotional about it, after all it would be embarrassing when we meet again for season 2 👀 if he's available of course 😅. I would like to say I've really enjoyed these reactions and I look forward to seeing Kim continue FMA:B
everything in this show is linked... thats crazy how the way the story is told is 100% perfect in every way possible.

Why do I always cry even after seeing this so much😭
Only 44 seconds this time, the algorithm is getting better at recommendation.
Thank you for sharing your reaction along this season with us. You are nice people to follow on this adventure.
thank you so much, that is so kind of you to say :) !
this show is a masterpiece 😭
Thank you guys. See you reacting to other shows and also when season 2 comes to us.
There was a mentally-illed person attacked people in subway in Taiwan earlier this year. It was a big news because there were rarely any incidents there..
the incident was stopped by a heroic passengers, and one of the young man got a slash on his face while doing so.
The reporters later asked him how he found the courage to put him self in danger.. and his answer was literally:
“This is what Hero Himmel would have done”
John please come back for Frieren season 2, whenever that may be! It has been great seeing you both reacting to this series. :)
what a wonderful 28 episode journey.... LET'S DO IT AGAIN!!!
It was a great journey with you guys!!
Surely see u soon at S2😊
Yep, thank you for accompanying me watching Frieren for the 16th time. 😎✌️
Fue como leer un hermoso libro 😢 la segunda temporada ya está confirmada y en producción a esperar entonces saludos👋👋👋
Thank you so much for this series reaction. Hopefully once season 2 is out we hope to see John to react with you again.
Such a beautiful incredible show
we couldn’t agree with you more :’)
Thanks for sharing your journey through Frieren S1 with us! I really appreciated listening to the reactions of both of you! Kim, when you continue on your anime journey, please watch Spice & Wolf, if you like Frieren, you'll like that as well, especially best girl Holo. 🙂🐺
