note how Frieren after realizing he actually starts to become senile, she says "take care" expecting they wont see again... but after he told her, he had a dream about his wife, Frieren changes it to her usual see you later 😭❤
Over here, those are sign of final day. The day before a person passed away. One of the torment that a person been gone through on daily basis will turn into a blessing on the last day. For example an old man that been had knee pain his entire life, moves lowly, one step at a time. But on his final day he doesn't feel that pain anymore and suddenly got his strength back. Passed away the next day. Being annoyed by just everything and everyone knows she's the grumpy old woman. But her last day she's become sweet, like the perfect grandma. Passed away the next day. I think Old Man Vol is the same. He lost his memory for God knows how long. Suddenly remembers his most previous memory.
I took the sad glance down Himmel made as the point he decided not to confess his feelings to Freiren. While I'm sure he saw Voll's commitment to his human wife as sweet, if you truly love someone, it's hard not to look upon his existence as a bit of a tragedy. At that very moment I believe Himmel imagined a sad, seemingly immortal elf, holding onto a love and promises made to a man who had been gone for a 1,000+ years. Possible resulting in her spending the remainder of her lifetime alone. Agree with it or not, he chose what he felt was best for her. At least that is how I read it. Otherwise, why bother focusing in on his eyes at that very moment?
Subtle, he really did but at the same time didn't😅, Frieren didn't even know what that means, to her it's just some silly antics of Himmel😂@@DeanStorm28
That conversation between Frieren and Voll is so striking, because it's one of the few times we ever see Frieren express a strong feeling about liking something. That ring that she spent so many sleepless nights searching for? Fern asked if Frieren was happy to have it back, and she said "maybe." But those memories of Himmel? No hesitation, those are important to her. She remembers "everything". She's offended by the mere suggestion that she may have forgotten. And "I'll carry your memory into the future" is essentially her words of blessing for Voll. It's a common fantasy trope for elves to have eidetic memories, and although AFAIK it never says so for Frieren, it seems strongly implied. In that sense, her own memories are the most permanent mementos she has of the past, and of the people she's met. More permanent than human memory, or rings that can be lost, or statues that crumble. She's "used to losing things," after all. I think that's why she values her memories so highly, and why she's "doing this for herself," i.e. to properly contextualize and understand her treasured memories.
It might not even be eidetic memory so much as just the fact that, to an elf, most everything is temporary except for what they choose to care enough about to ingrain into their memory. People die or leave, landscapes change, kingdoms rise and fall, but what they cherish in their memory will last as long as the elf does. Yet another way in which an eternal outlook on time can change a person. I think part of the reason Himmels death hit Frieren so much was because she failed to realize how much she would care about him until he was gone. 10 years is like an errand to her, so she probably never expected her party to worm their way into her heart as much as they did. She went on living as she used to, spent 50 years bumming around the area digging for spells only to turn around and find that her opportunity to burn Himmel into her memory had already passed her by.
Frieren getting clearly offended when Voll questioned her memory of Himmel is VERY telling. its extremely rare to see her lose composure. it shows how closely she holds Himmel in her heart, even if she seems outwardly uncaring or stoic.
Stark finding out the average life expectancy of dwarves seemed to make him anxious about finishing his journey to get back to Eisen in time. Frieren's recollection of "handsome poses" was touching because she was smiling when she said it, contrary to her response in the past.
The moment you see the decision in Himmel that he couldn't do the same thing to Frieren that was done to Voll. That kind of did hurt my heart. He loves her but he can't do it because someone that lives hundreds and thousands of years like Voll, missing their love every day, that is just so sad. Man this episode had so much meaning behind everything, I get the feeling that Frieren didn't tell Voll that the demon king was dead might have been a mercy since he still had purpose while he thought that. Without that he would no longer have "purpose" and when older people don't have a purpose anymore they wither away.
So we don’t know a lot about Kraft. Now we know he’s an ancient hero (which is interesting considering after Stark wakes up beside him in the cabin, he says “you must be a famous monk” or something like that and Kraft just smiles) We also know that Kraft is now a monk, after having been a warrior who travelled with a Priest, so I wonder if his new class is a reflection of the influence his Priest partner had on him.
I think that's why Kraft wasnt shocked or didnt care at all when he was told that Frieran was in a hero party who defeated th demon king and more intrigued on whp she was before that, he himself was a hero from the ancient time. Like "yeah been there, done that" 😂
I've never seen the holding a hand out at the log as a growth moment for Stark, but instead one for Fern. Stark really didn't need to be taught manners, or try to be kind more often. He always was, all the time, everywhere they go. He plays with kids, helps people with little problems in town, even in the group he wants to help them. The problem is Fern dismissing him, trying to stay aloof, assuming the worst intentions, etc. She called him a pervert just for offering to carry Frieren when she fell asleep. This is Fern letting herself accept Stark's kindness after the stuff that's happened recently, not Stark all of a sudden offering it. He's always offered it.
Yeah. Notice every time they come to a new town he sort of disappears into the background, and by the time they leave he's friends with everybody. He's just an all around good guy that can't help but help everyone he comes across. Very much like Himmel in that regard. He's just not as charismatic as Himmel was. He's still leaps and bounds more sociable than either Frieren or Fern though.
16:59 I also detected a hint of sadness in Himmel. But for me, I read it like he was realizing he didn't want to put her through that. And maybe he shouldn't pursue a romantic relationship with Frieren. Like he wanted to spare her the pain that old man Voll seemed to have from losing his human wife. I don't know if that's right either. Just a feeling I got.
Yep, Voll has developed at least some minor senility, perhaps due to him having massively outlived an average dwarf. It seems he is mostly functional, but has lapses where he forgets what time period he is in.
Himmel's conversation with Voll Aldo relates back to earlier when Himmel said he was having the statues made so that Frieren wouldn't be alone. The timeline isn't totally clear, but I think that conversation is why, because he even joked he had to show her all his poses, which is what he ends up doing when getting the statue in episode 2.
Great reaction, it's fun watching it (again) with you. 👍 I don't want to reveal too much, but I'm excited to hear your reaction to the next episode (17.), which is full of surprises. I won't spoil anything, but here's one piece of advice: don't skip a single second. 🤭🤫

Kraft statue is made of stone, while Himmel of bronze. Small detail further showing how much time have passed.

The short story of Voll just hits me like a truck everytime. This series is SO GOOD at making you feel whatever emotions it wants to bring up in you.
Voll cannot even remember his wife, but he remembers his promise to her, and he continues to keep that promise.
i'm glad you noticed the subtle look on Himmel's face when Voll was talking about his wife.
The look down, the moment Himmel realize he couldn't put Frieren through what the Old man is going through, he loved her too much
