Double totaled is just like legal double jeopardy, once a car has a rebuilt title you could total it 100 times and it would only have 1 rebuilt title

I have a friend who bought a 17 Focus ST, salvage title. The turbo went out 2 weeks later. One new turbo later and the cylinder head cracked on an intake port 3 weeks lated. Long story short, $2500 later and a visit to the shop to reset the timing chains along with many hours working on it it finally runs and drives. He paid $8800 for it back in January 2024. It was off the road until late October. Sad to say, this was my friend's kids first car...
He proved to me he was a true car guy. Going through all that and not giving up!
All it proves is that he’s stupid spent over $8000 on a Ford focus ST is crazy 😂
@@QuantumPotato10depending on if it was ST2 or ST3, and the miles, 8k for a 17’ is not bad. A lot of salvage titles are just a couple grand away from being completely reliable-these cars have been known to be very reliable up to 300k mileage with proper maintenance
@@QuantumPotato10 Well that would make since for normal people. It's takes shear will and determination to pull your car apart with little to no experience and figure out what's wrong (with some help... He's 17...) then put it back together and have it run again.
He could've thrown in the towel and paid someone close to $5k to have it fixed but he didn't. I was proud. Yea, the circumstances weren't great but he had a good learning experience through it. That's what counts.
Man that sucks I bought a 2014 ST with 120k miles clean title I beat the hell out of it and haven’t had an issue
I bought mine and 8k miles later my head gasket blew, spent 2300 replacing the engine, clutch fly wheel and intercooler, now it's back on the road. It just comes with the territory I guess
Gotta remember that these car were a mass produced car and resell wise have always been cheap. They used to even be cheaper than they are now. Doesnt take much to total a car thats used value is around 10-14k.
Also rebuilt buyers tip: If you get the vin for the car of intrest, you can Google it and the aution post for the vehicle should pop up so you can see how bad the car was wrecked before buying.
I do body work for a living and not even one single estimate is correct when the estimators attempt to assess the damage through pictures. They're regularly off by 4 whole digits and they're being paid to do it professionally (they don't mind approving my supplements). The number of people who think they're "car enthusiasts" that are capable of properly doing this is zero. Your advice is for professionals only.
Just the SRT4 life cycle all over again.
😂 for real. It's crazy to always see a SRT-4/Civic at the track and now it's focus/ fiesta everywhere.
@@joshruner1348I wish I saw focus STs at the track. I only see civics and Fiestas
I just said the same thing lmao.
And funnily enough I was also just thinking "I wonder if I could find a clean SRT4 out there" 🤔
@mcgoo721 I wish all the luck in finding a Srt4 that a rod has not been thrown through the block. I would find a good body light damage and K or 4G63 swap it.
My mom has had an ST3 as her daily since new in 2014. Super fun little car and shockingly reliable. It’s been (and still is) our family hauler for 112k miles
Rock on bruh.
ther good mine has 320k if you take care it they last.
yea theyre just good cars looking at one myself tbh
@@TwoDollarGararge nice plenty of people on the forums and subreddit who have 250k+
@julianc.6589 pretty much the loudest comments are the person who is on engine #5 and that ruins a vehicles reputation.
I found a race red 2014 ST3 with 120k and a clean title for $8500 out the door. Dealership wanted $10,200, brought my code reader and saw they had deleted codes on my test drive. Turbo was under boosted and it had the fuel vent thing. I thought the bov sounded stuck open so I took a risk and figured that’s what the turbo code was, and the fuel vent is a quick fix. I got back to the dealership and said I found the codes and I’ll do $8500 everything included and he said yes immediately 😂.
Took off the big and cleaned it with simple green and replaced the vent solenoid. Boom codes gone.
Just got an ST last month. Frickin fun car.
best little go kart lol give it more boost it becomes a psychopath.
Go big turbo, you wont regret it. I blew mine up after only 3k kilo's unfortunately but it is at 240,000k so I knew it was a matter of time. But my god it was so much fun, gonna rebuild and shoot for 650whp. Take care of it and she will take care of you, this is the only major issue ive ever had with the car. 99% sure a piston ring died
Too bad it’s slow

Dear Diary,
Today I found a great new channel where these guys cruise Marketplace car ads and say what we’re all thinking, but way funnier. I like it very much. 😀
Clean title, 2nd owner, non-clapped out, 70k miles '16 ST1. Only notable Issues have been 3 rear mm's, and a trans mount. Other than that, best car I've ever owned. Swapped in a RS shifter, and Green filter for a little more fun.
Planning on trading up for an MK5 Supra this year. Hopefully I can get the dealer to offset $10K for it.
Pretty sure I have the only yellow ST3 that hasn't been ruined. I constantly am looking for others and have never seen one comparable
Mines metallic not salvage or rebuilt lmao but I got a dent on my fender and a lil dent on my bumper lol
Mine was... rip. Stupid school traffic
I seen 3 clean st3s in the LA area
So the deal is, if the driver side fender and bumper get hit and it cracks the plastic case for the ecu they total the car. Body shops "have" to replace the ecu and wiring harness and that generally is more than the value of the car. This happened to me...
The real kicker is the fact it's located in a water drainage path and will eventually kill itself regardless of any damage. They're all on borrowed time.
One of my biggest regrets in life was totaling my ST. Someone purchased it and fixed it, but that was the best car I have ever owned. You live and learn I guess.
Same here😔. I have a RS now but my ST was the most reliable car I’ve owned. The RS has 27k miles and I don’t trust it lol
The vukos “find every cool brick you have and put it on the car” is such a universal experience if you had legos
Just stumbled across this video and I gotta say I love the laid back car talk.
I've had one for about 6 years. Its Ingot silver, sitting on Gold Tarmacs. Got it when it had 29k miles on it. Has 135k on it now. Spark plugs fluid changes and the clutch master cylinder is all I have changed. Its lowered and I regret it so I am currently trying to find a good set of factory suspension to put back on it which is way harder to find than expected. Other than that its such a good car and I'm going to drive it until its totaled or it blows up
I have a good set of factory shocks in mine trade lmao
@bigandcrispy7154 lol if you were in Memphis I'd consider it.
@@Iosis6 damn I’m in Michigan 😂 I’m building a poor man’s race car and plan to do a hill climb in northern Michigan
@@bigandcrispy7154 good luck with the build! The FoST will be a fun car for it! I used to do track days in an 04 V6 Mustang. It wasn't much but good suspension, brakes and tires and it ate 90s BMW M3s, Miatas, shitty Corvette drivers and anything with similar horsepower so a budget build can be fun!
Please cover the mazdaspeed 3. were like the alcoholic chain smoking cousins of the ST.
I want one bad. Wish they'd make one again with the big 6
@ They should’ve made the 3 AWD. I’m pushing 450 wheel and 1st, 2nd and 80% of 3rd are useless. All of third if my tires are cold and I’m pretty conservative in my build
@TheoreticalPie yeah they just need to put the 3.3 AWD in a 3. It'd be awesome
@@TheoreticalPiei just got my hands on a 280whp mazdaspeed6 and the AWD is insanely grippy on snow. Pulls scary fast in the winter
I have a 17 ST and I'm the first owner. Aside from my clutch master cylinder going on me (what a pain to replace), only a few easy to replace hoses and a rear stabilizer failed. Almost 150,000 mi still running strong on the original clutch. It's a bone stock ST3 with the smoked snowflake rims. Only upgrades I did were speakers and a subwoofer. I love my daily driver
I was looking for a Focus ST and the rebuilt or salvage title thing was super common to find. I wound up in a Fiesta ST after testing driving both at a lot that had both, which seemed to result in cleaner, lower mileage cars when looking around for less money. Been super happy with it.
Have had a 2016 ST3 for 4 years now, absolutely love it.
Slam it on tarmacs and daily it
Damn commented before I watched 😅
@@BBinette630 Lol. I recently put mine on gold Tarmacs after owning it for 6 years. Don't care that people seem to hate them. I love them and they are so easy to clean.

Merry FiSTmas everyone.
Merry FiSTmas to you too🎄🎁
i purchase a clean stock fiesta st a little bit ago, the cobb rear motor mount is such a popular feature because the stock one is absurdly soft in comparison, and i had "issues"{at a single track event lol) where it would rock the engine a little too much.
My wives has 95k miles and we are replacing the clutch master this next weekend. No other issues. It has FMIC, exhaust, all three motor mounts upgraded, intake, etc. she drives very conservatively and i get on it once a month to go get coffee. Its a sweet frikkin car. The clutch still really good
Hot hatches are meant to be totaled and then fixed and continue going or you arent hot hatching right
As a ST owner, I loved this video
Wasnt shopping for them in 2013 but as soon as 2015, these always had big incentives on them. Was very easy to get $4k off without even trying. People were buying last year 2018 ST1s for $20k flat. Good times.

WA state rebuilt title cars usually have a small sticker on the driver side next to the striker latch for the door
i had a 2019 fiesta st, bought it brand new! the first time i filled that car up, it pissed like 1/4 gallon of gas out beneath the rear wheel. i got gas at that gas station at least 2 times a week for 3 years and never had it happen to any of the other 4 cars i had before it during those years...... Loved that FIST
Im a salvaged title too
No woman will ever want me
My only options are feed or die alone
Making women want you is easy, unfortunately the women that attracts, unpleasant.
Plenty of men love salvage titles, maybe change your orientation?
Not with that attitude
Owned both RS and ST. So much bang for buck on performance and interior. Hatchback is spacious and cost to maintain is lower than a lot of other sporty vehicles. Purge valve, HPFP are really the only big things that need to be fixed and don't cost a lot either to diy.
How much more fun is the RS? Feels a lot faster?
@@atrell2112RS is a lot of fun, but hard to find a good price on a mostly stock car. I love mine, just wish I had a garage for it
lol, my Focus ST is a Rebuilt. Guy i bought it from had all the receipts for the work he did, and I got it with less than 70k on the clock for 9k. I have almost 130k on it now with no major issues (turbo oil line broke, and squirrel chewed a sensor wire). I am a pay cash no car note kind of guy, so a rebuilt was the only way I was getting a Focus ST. I am a little bored of it now, but no regrets on buying it. I saved a bunch of money and have a car that rips.
True on the torque bang when hard shifting.
...do you mean torque steer and limited slip diff chatter? Mine does that shit only when I don't want it to.
I believe he was referring to the mount being bad and needing replaced that they talked about in the video.
I own the ST. Shoutout from Schaumburg! had mine with 15 miles off the lot
I see these at auction all the time and you are right. 80% are rebuilt. The other thing I notice is if they have any sort of aftermarket work on the intake side they usually have some sort of head gasket leak. Ive driven a few and they are fun. Buckets of rev hang and the brakes are a little wooden and it was either these or the Fiesta's that are in desperate need of a LSD. Other than that a raw little car.
over the 5 years with my st3, I've learned they eat spark plugs and purge valves like candy! 😂 recently had to give it a hg - around 110k miles
(bought it with 60k)
other than that, the car's been absolutely mint! truely the ultimate daily - go to the track on Saturday, and take it to work on Monday 👌
I had a 13 ford focus st and the insurance company declared it a total loss because they didn't want to pay for the right front wheel and lower control arm, which was bent after a fender bender. Got a new wheel and control arm myself and repaired it. Got the title rebuilt and sold it. The car is still driving to this day. Seems like insurance doesn't want to pay for these cars to be fixed. If you actually take care of them, they will last for a really long time. The car had 88k miles, and I sold it for $10k.
Bustin makes me feeel gooood
So funny thing about the ECU being right up in the bumper. I hit a huge patch of snow on the road and it completely ripped the PCM wires out. Car would start after about 30 seconds of cranking but wouldnt drive and would eventually stall out. Resoldered the wires back and it worked perfectly fine
Just sold mine and already miss it. Yes it was a salvage title but tbf the Focus ST wasn’t sold in my country and the only ones here are cars that were totaled in the US and then imported and fixed over here
+10K for nearly 10-15 year old cars with +100ki miles is insane. Especially for a FORD.

Mine is fortunately not a salvage title. However it does have two smaller accident claims on it. Although I’m not a huge fan of front wheel drive cars. This is for sure one of the most fun little cars I’ve ever owned
I picked up an 05 wrx wagon with 160k with a rebuilt title, got a crazy deal and the car was well taken care of.

Got my 2018 focus last year from a dealer at 65k miles. Not salvage title, but previous owner did put (im assuming) raceland coilovers on it, THANKFULLY they kept the stock suspension, still have the racelands on though but left it stock. Loved it ever since, did the drive from MI to home in NY twice over.
Only thing i had to do was replace the evap valve and get the tailpipe reattached cause MI snow rust and my previous two driveways were a BITCH!
My friend is on his second focus ST, the first one was in fact totalled
you are absolutely right my ST has a salvage title
bought a new 2015 for $21,500. dealer couldnt diagnose a bad purge valve and ford lemon law bought it back for full value after 19k miles. got a 2016 as a replacement, drove it 45k miles and traded it in march of 2022 for $19,500. good car(s). kept them bone stock and outside of the purge valves (which became a huge recall), nothing went wrong.

I'm jealous of Atlas not needing to replace the purge valve on his. I am currently on my third in a year of ownership. Stupid valve just clogs. At least the valves are cheap.

it should be noted that almost every car on marketplace is a salvage title lmao
2015 ST3 with 175k miles and goin strong 😎 replaced a turbo at like 150k n that’s it (drivetrain wise)
2:10 I think this is the exact same for my 2011 MazdaSpeed 3. Ever since the dealer like with 500 miles, it ALWAYS 'tinks' going into second. And RMM are always the fist suggested mod for my platform, so makes sense due to the platforms being so similar
My RMM exploded mid pull like 2 years ago when I first bought my speed. Good times.
The interior is like a Ford Explorer with nicer seats. Can’t get past that.
Buddy of mine has an RS. Downshifted into 5th while going 40. Threw a rod. Has less than 50k miles 😅
Not an ST but I do love my SEL so far. The DCT isn’t great but it’s only really a problem if you’re constantly stopping or going through traffic. On the highway it’s such a nice ride (maybe not for people in the back seat 😂).
