Great job! I've been learning for about a year (a little bit every day) and I am no where close to your level. I learned a lot from your other video which I'm going to incorporate into my learning as well. Keep up the good work!

I totally get it.

Jocelyn has a lot of things going for her. She was musical at a young age, knows how and what to study, already bilingual with another language, likely exposure to the language from hearing her parents and other Filipinos she encounters.
It has already been proven, people who are at least bilingual have better performances in memory and information processing.
With that said, even if a person does not have all the advantages Jocelyn has, the determination and grit will get a person to their goal, if they are persistent enough.

Wow. Galing Ang mag tagalog. I've been trying to learn for such a long time. Still working slowly on it. But I have been trying a little harder this time. Such a short amount of time and drinking sentences like that is amazing.

Im just like right there where I can understand nearly everything and I am aware of how simplified Tagalog is (also phrases are backwards), but putting it all into words is definitely terrifying!

Thank you for watching these videos! There are different aspects of fluency. For instance, my listening skills are much better than my speaking skills. Also, I'm not very good at writing in Tagalog, but it's just a matter of practice! After the pandemic is over, I would love to spend a few months in the Philippines so that I can fully immerse myself into the language and culture.

Read also Noli Me Tangare or any books written in Tagalog, then tests yourself how well you are reading those Tagalog phrases and whether you can understand them.

    Really - could be Talaga
"I really studied Tagalog" - Nag aral talaga ako ng tagalog
Know (as in to know an info) - malaman
Know (as in to know a skill) - marunong
So in your sentence where you said "Gusto kong MARUNONG kung saan ka tumira sa Pilipinas" it should be "Gusto kong malaman kung saan ka tumira sa Pilipinas"

Its impossible to learn tagalog in 7 days, it takes on average 1100 hours. It's more difficult than French, spanish and Italian to learn. 1100 hours would mean you practice for 24hrs a day for 45 days (obviously impossible) so realistically it would take you 6 to 12 months to learn it.

    • @alanguages
      @alanguages ปีที่แล้ว

You are 100% correct. What a person learns in 7 days, is what that particular person learns in 7 days. Each individual will vary. Even though Nathaniel Drew has good advice and tips on studying and learning languages, the amount of Italian he learned in 7 days was deceptive.
Nathaniel Drew already had exposure to Italian from familial ties. When he was younger, I had read he spent time there. I think he already studied and spoke Spanish, which is notably a closely related language.
Even myself, once I was conversational in Spanish, and listened to Italians speak slowly, I could generally follow the conversation, without having ever studied it. If you check out his languages, they are all related in a way, that learning the next is so much easier and faster. Top Romance languages: French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese.

1100 hours is the length of time needed to learn tagalog to a near native level. She is still at the conversational stage.

Regular Filipinos talk like this, even in Manila. We use "Taglish" in our everyday conversations.
When people talk in pure tagalog, they just sound too poetic and weird.
