My sweet little tux girl was I rescue I took off of the road in front of my house. At 8 weeks, barely alive and covered in fleas, I nursed her back to health. She lasted another 10 years until around a year and a half ago, and it was the biggest loss I've experience so far. She was the sweetest, daintiest little thing, and she would reach her paw out to hold my hand if I was too far away while we sat. I feel like she never stopped thanking me for saving her and I never stopped thanking her for coming into my life. So polite, too. When there was a new blanket or something on the bed, she would avoid stepping on it until I encouraged that it was a sitting surface. Never knocked things over. Lied with me when I cried. I'll miss her forever.

Sounds kind of like our Truffle girl.
She showed up at a neighbor's house, tiny and starving, and the neighbor between us called me to see if our neighbor Russ was missing a kitten, since she knew I had taken care of them when he had gone out of town.
I went to see her, and she was clearly five or six weeks old at the most; several weeks younger than his cat's litter, despite looking a lot like the mother.
And, as you say, flea ridden and clearly starving, as she had obviously been separated from her mother for some time, who I assume was likely killed, as cats very rarely abandon their kittens.
That was in August 2019, and she has been a light in our lives from that day to now.
Our grey tabby girl, Musica, who had shown up at the same neighbor's house a few years earlier, immediately took her in as her own, as did my black male soul kitty, Bear, and they raised her right and taught her manners.
She is a beautiful, sweet, and wonderful girl. I can't imagine our life without her.

I’ve always had a weakness for black and white animals, so when I moved out and adopted my first cat I knew I wanted a Tuxedo. The local shelter had a few but I was drawn to one in particular, even though she seemed more standoffish and had a minor health issue. I kept looking at the others but I couldn’t resist this attachment to her and I knew in my heart she was the one. On her first night home she jumped on me and slept in my arms all night 💜
She’s subtle but she has a huge personality, and once you know her and look for it you can see that she’s not aloof at all. She has a quiet intelligence, always observing at a distance, but we have an amazing bond and now I see the love and personality radiating from her. I’m so glad I listened to my gut and brought her home all those years ago 💜

My Midnight was pretty chill, too. She had my personality. She was comforting when I was upset or sad, and she was my bedtime buddy. Her and my dog had their special spots. My dog Perdy and Midnight enjoyed each other, unlike those that say that cats and dogs don't get along. Midnight was always lounging around. She even sometimes watched some cartoons with me when I was a kid. And when she needed something, I was the one she came to. I'd love to have another one, but for a while now, I've had my eye on getting my first russian blue cat. Hard to find I've learned in Phoenix, though. Maybe something's just saying get a tuxedo, instead. Lol. But I'm waiting until I can financially afford a cat, as rent is expensive.

Your baby was a Hemingway (denoted by the extra toes and named after Ernest Hemingway, the author). They are indeed amazingly intelligent loving creatures. Ours had opposable thumbs and he was fully capable of using them. We felt the same way when we lost our baby. The only way we found peace was honoring him by giving more a home that needed one. We now have an animal sanctuary where 27 kitties call our property home. We have 5 Oreo's in our group (one of them is sitting on our shoulder in our avatar image). We miss him terribly, but every day we see what his legacy created. :)

I too had a Tuxedo that must've found that fountain. As he was very small. I was going to name him Sylvester but while "training him " would say be a Big Guy.. And the name stuck.. When I was lucky enough to get a girl from work to come home with me. They'd want to meet Big Guy. Well they would always say "He's not that big he's little..." Well I had been telling him how Big he was and had Big Pectorial Muscles while rubbing his chest. (Like Ren on Ren and Stimpy always wanted Big Pectorial Muscles) Well Big Guy would look at me all sad he really knew what they were saying. I'd give them a look and say Oh she's teasing and they would always play along and tell him how big he was. And a Smile would always come over his face. Very smart ! It's been almost 30 years but I will always miss him.

I was adopted by a Tuxie many years ago. He actually belonged to the neighbors, but they weren't taking care of him. I fed him and pet him, and he decided I would be his human. Tuxitude is real. He was very intelligent, proud, and somewhat demanding. However, when he and I had "disagreements" and he felt it was his fault, he would come back and lick my hand to say "I'm sorry", and we'd be good again. I miss him a lot. I had a tuxedo Maine coon long long ago, I named him Chris, and when my daughter was 3, she wanted to dress up like Chris for Halloween, so I found a Sylvester Cat costume, and the two of them walked door to door for treats that year. Not to mention that Chris was super protective and let people know if they got too close to my daughter he would act out vocally or if anyone touched “his sibling” he would get on his hind legs and front paws out ready to 🥊 box. I miss him so much, Chris lived to be 18 and passed away when my girl was 15 and that was the hardest and saddest year on the entire family. It’s true tuxedos have a unique personality, and Chris was my best XXL fur baby ever that was not only loving, loyal, playful, and mischievous at times, he was the family protector that would chase down the rottie next door. I will treasure those moments and years of memories in my heart and mind and wish I had videos to watch, but that was so long ago that my video camera with VHS tapes were to much for me to hold while filming and playing at the same time, plus he used to knock over the camera because of the sound it made from the tape. Chris was something... very smart and so flory-adorable. Thank you if you read my comment... I know it was long, so sorry ‘bout that... just seeing this video, reading others comments, I just wanted to share my experience and it brought back flooding memories.... thank you 🙂

Wonderful story, I loved reading about Chris!! He sounds like he was very special, smart, and a true delight. You writing about the sounds that the video camera made, being enticing to Chris, immediately made me think of our tuxedo cat, Galileo (Gala for short), and his brother DaVinci (a silver/black tabby). As kittens, they became wildly excited whenever I would put a new movie in the DVD player. The opening & closing of the disc drawer drove them nuts, and they always tried to "catch" the disc before the drawer closed. They would take turns sitting on top of the dvd player while the movie ran, listening intently to the whirring noises of the machine. Galileo usually won the coveted sitting spot, as he is bigger and more stubborn (though very loving, smart, empathetic, and thinks he's a puppy or a human). Our boys are turning 5 next month. I know how much you must miss Chris; I've lost other cats before, after long lives together. It's difficult, but at least you have the memories. Thank you for sharing your memories here; they made me smile. 😻

We rescued our tuxedo when we saw her outside right before it was supposed to snow for the first time that year. She was a tiny kitten that was abandoned by her mother because she was a runt. She's the best little cat ever! She was feral but is now pretty tame. She gets scared easily but loves to play and sleep on me at night because she gets cold easily. She talks a lot and always comes if we ask out loud where she is. She's definitely my favorite.

My Tuxedo cat was the most intelligent pet I've ever had! His name was Mittens, for obvious reasons, could even speak a few understandable words calling for who he wanted. He walked around saying "mama" when he wanted my mom, he would call for me by saying "Mim" for Tim and one time when my best friend was over, he said "Ranny" for Randy. Randy looked at me. I'm so sorry for your loss. I understand. I've lost 4 cats since January 2022. 19 years ago, I took in a pregnant stray and kept her and her 6 kittens. Because they were all the same age, I always knew I'd wind up losing most of them right around the same time. Two died a little bit earlier (cancer and kidney disease), then the others began a slow decline that lasted about 2 years before they started dying off, one every few months. I've only got one left now. It is hard. I don't know what I'll do when she goes.

She loves laying on our laps, and she sat on our shoulders until she got too big. Her personality is amazing. She was handled by children since birth, and had human contact every day of her life, and it shows. She cries if we go outside for a few minutes, or if she's not able to get in the room we are in. My absolute favorite childhood cat was a tuxedo. He was found as a tiny stray kitten near my home, I adopted him as my own, and he became my 'baby.' He was the chillest, most fun, and most unique cat I ever had. A bit feisty and mischievous, he often acted more like a dog than a cat--which made sense, because he grew up alongside dogs, and his best friend of many years was the family collie. Like a dog, he usually came when I called him (he lived mainly outdoors), and he loved to go on walks with me. He also fiercely defended his collie friend from other dogs. I wept for days when he died, and many years later I still miss him. He even stole the heart of my dad, a 'non-cat' guy, who claimed my tuxedo cat was the only cat he ever liked. Tuxies will always be my favorites...

I've had several tuxedo cats, and they were invariably sweet, mellow, and good-natured; only one of them was something of a rascal. He was really a sweetheart, though, and was never aggressive.
In fact, I found that easy-going tuxedos were about the only ones who could form friendships with mercurial calicos.

I once had tuxedo cat named Ashley back in the 80s. She was mostly black with a white belly! She was abandoned and must have gone through some kind of trauma in her past home life, because at first ,while she was otherwise friendly, she would freak out a little whenever my mom and I would handle her, but in time we won over her trust and became a very loving, affectionate lap cat!
Keep the Caturday videos coming! I learn something new every time and love them all!🐈‍⬛🐈❤❤

Our tuxie boy named Galileo definitely has "tuxitude!" He's very intelligent, with many learned behaviors to interact with us. Recently, he decided that his breakfast time is 3:30 am (umm, no!), and has been trying to find ways to awaken me. Having failed with the usual shenanigans (knocking things over, singing arias, etc), he discovered that he could push buttons on my cd player, and turn on the radio. *Then* he discovered that he could paw at the volume dial until it goes VERY LOUD, and that will definitely get me out of bed, lol. He has started to practice opening doorknobs on his own. He learns every new behavior that his brother discovers (DaVinci, silver tabby with brown undercoat), and then some. Galileo is loving, smart, empathetic, sweet, patient (except for breakfast!), comes when called, and seems to believe that he's human. We love him, and adore his unique markings: a whisp of white fur on his forehead between his eyes like a little snowflake landed there, and a white chin under his black-furred mouth with a single white dot, like a reverse beauty mark, over his right lip.

Thank you for sharing these wonderful facts about the beloved "Tuxedos".
I've had two male Tuxedo cats and they have always been had unique personalities.
My longest lived cat was a Tux and lived to be 17.5yrs. Sadly he had to be put down due to health reasons. One of the hardest losses I've gone through
My current feline companion is a Tabby and we crossed paths through "divine intervention". He's my "protector" and perhaps is a manifestation of my previous feline companions all rolled into one companion! 🐾🐾

My tuxie is almost 1 now, and I swear he’s a miracle. He is the sweetest and cuddliest; every morning he comes and gets in bed with me so we can watch a cat tv video for a little while before breakfast. But more importantly, he managed to wiggle his way into my older cat’s heart. She’s almost 10 now, gray tabby, and definitely way smarter than me. Unfortunately, the other cats we’ve lived with had a tendency of bullying her; when they first met, she hissed and growled at my little tuxie (about 4 months at them time. And the older cat was contained in a mess tent thing for the introductions). The baby didn’t give a shit. For months he patiently but stubbornly would move just a little closer to the older one when she was napping until she’d almost let him snuggle her, similarly gradually coaxed her into playing with him, and eventually even got her to let him groom her (even if she tends to look supremely annoyed about it 😂). It blows me away the relationship he’s managed to form with her; she’s never let any other cat within touching distance ❤

My husband and I share our home with a brother-sister pair of tuxedo cats, Ross and Demelza (we're fans of PBS' "Poldark"). Ross is more energetic, Demelza more laid-back; Ross will introduce himself when company comes, while shy Demelza keeps to herself, yet when it comes to us, Demelza is super affectionate and Ross slightly more standoffish. They're a tightly bonded pair, and watching them together is a delight. Our house would not be home without them. Thank you for shining a light on the wonder and beauty of these cats.

As the current owner of a tuxedo, let me say that she has a TOTAL Tux-atude. She knows some tricks and understands language very well. She’s learned not to jump on kitchen counters. She’s also the kind of cat who will stand on me at 6 am and purr until I feed her. She knows my alarm clock going off means it’s time for mom to get up, and, if I don’t immediately, she’ll yell until I do. Absolute chaos child (I love her).

I rescued my (French) tuxie, Winter, from starvation after watching her scratch on door after door which remained closed. I scooped her up and drove her home, what a great day that was. She's had health issues, and when I took her to be fixed, the vet said she was around 1 year old, though size 3 months. What a joy she is, sweet, affectionate, smart, loving, extremely polite with the two other cats. She likes to hang around my neck like Cruella's fur collar, and I swear she knows not to scratch me. I have to give her colloidal silver daily and she just opens up and says 'go, Mom', she knows it's for her good. I love that little miss so much, she's God's gift to me. Never pass up on the tuxie He has for you.

We had a little Tuxedo male cat we named Louie for three months shy of 16 years. He was adorable, so smart, and loved our other 4 cats and our dog. He was so sweet and affectionate, but also mischievous on several occasions knocking over 2 glasses filled with water and 3 household decor items. He was just too cute to get upset with! After our little dog Lacie passed, Louie came into our bedroom every night, walked on top of me to my face and licked my nose, cheeks and chin and would then settle down on top of or next to me to sleep. One night, I had a experienced a very sharp pain in my back between my shoulder blades and thought it might be pleurisy or something worse, but I thought maybe I should just sleep with it until the morning. Louie came into our room again, laid against that painful area of my back and started purring deeply and within about 15 minutes the pain was gone! Those situations were amazing and incredible! Cats are very attuned to us if allow them to be! I miss him terribly, but cherish the memories with him and are humbled and grateful to have been his family!

I've had 3 tuxedos, a grey and white, an orange and white, 2 black, and 3 tabbies. One of my tuxies was the most talkative. One of the blacks was the grumpiest toward the other cats - although very sweet with me. The other black showed me where the term "hissy fit" came from when we moved. He hissed at EVERYONE and EVERYTHING for a full day before he returned to his usual good nature. One of my tabbies was the smartest cat I ever had. The orange and white was the most laid back. All of my kitties had very distinct personalities, and all of them were very loving, in their own way, so I can't say I believe in Tuxitude. I don't think fur pattern has anything to do with personality, any more than skin color does for people.

Fascinating. I had no idea that a cat we are looking after had a classification, much less that it was a Tuxedo. I describe it as having a white bib and white boots. This beautiful little female came in form the wild but is becoming more approachable as the years go by. She has a permanent look like Garfield, sort of a one-upmanship sneer. But she is not really sneering. Thanks for this.
BTW, our last house cat which was adopted from the local SPCA was a jet black shorthair. We loved him to bits and were utterly distraught when he became fatally ill with failed kidneys.

I was good friends with a tuxedo cat. Known him since he was a kitten. A bit skittish, was constantly on edge. He didn’t get along too well with an older tabby living in the neighborhood. Took him out to the countryside to live with a pal of our’s, and he seems to be doing much better for himself now. Hunts all the mice that’re living in the barn, managed to put on a more healthy amount of weight (he was a lanky creature before). I go to visit him on occasions whenever I’m taking trips that direction.

I LOVE Tuxedo cats. I've had 3 tuxes growing up. First we adopted Pierre and Chantal. They were the smartest and most affectionate cats we've had. Chantal followed me everywhere and slept with me and whenever I was eating, she would want to eat too. She lived to be 18 years old. I loved her and missed her so much. Then in 2015 I adopted another Tuxedo cat. I named him Simon Sox. He was such a loving and affectionate kitty. He would follow me everywhere and was a lap cat. He loved to sit on my lap and watch television with me. Also, he loved belly strokes. He loved to nap with me, and cuddles and snuggles. I miss him so much. He lived for 17 years. I adopted him when he was 11. The six years I had him were so Loving and sweet. He would also greet me at the door when I got home. I loved him very much. Miss you Simon Sox 💜😘💋
