- The RK G68 may be one of the more affordable hotswappable keyboards with bluetooth functions, it's great for beginners that are getting into the hobby and with just a few modifications the board can actually sound really great.
MODIFICATIONS:
Foam added in case
Foam added in between pcb and plate to dampen sound
Bar end mods added for stabilizers
Lubed with Krytox 205g0

I swapped the keycaps on mine to thicker abs double shot ones i had from another board, swapped the original rk reds mine came with by using outemu reds that feel smoother and more quiet, and installed some foam under the board. Feels smooth like butter and sounds pretty good - not as good as yours, but I'm happy with it. I may at some point lube the switches, but too lazy to do that right now..
No rush! Just go at your own pace, it’ll make the whole experience better!
Honestly this is a great board without having to do all that. I just modded the stabilizers and put in panda switches and it is absolutely a dream. Much easier approach for anyone who thinks this looks daunting. Obviously your mods will be a lot better, just it isn't totally necessary.
Yeah what I did was a bit of an over kill but I just want to see how much I can push to modifying a board! It's definitely not for everyone!

I think they are really nice sounding for the price, although I feel they have to be lubed and filmed for the best results!
If I could, I would really like to try out more builds with gat ink blacks or creams!
@@clackson5175 yeah, it seems like you went for a smoother creamier sound, and I would say black inks are amazing for that

i got an iso rk68 in white, swapped the switches for gateron yellows and put some cherry profile pbt keycaps on, and case foam, and it sounds great, for around £120 i’d say it’s great value
this part 5:25 - 5:47 made appreciate the beauty of modding

I've tried to use the software on their website but i couldn't really get it to work sadly! :( but for me i feel that that i could do without the software, but if the software works that'll be the best of both worlds!
My RK G68 is almost the same as yours! The difference being the keycaps (I used PBT XDA profile keycaps) and the stabilizers (I replaced the stock ones with lubed Durock stabilizers). I didn't do the bar end mods though.
Mine sounds and works fantastic, but my spacebar is really loud when pressed. The removable cover with mine isn't flushed with the keyboard too. The gap between the spacebar and the bottom part of the cover is noticeably bigger compared to the sides. It actually annoyed me to the point where I put double-sided tape inside the removable cover to lessen the gap. I assume the reason why mine isn't flush with the board is because I repeatedly kept on removing the cover.
I still recommend this keyboard though. Great value for a 65% hot-swappable board.
Durock stabilisers will definitely feel way better than the stock ones!

I have the same ones as yours, but man.. I can't even unscrew my pcb from the plate, I thought they screw it in too tightly, and it was surprising for me seeing you unscrew them so easily hahaha. Great modification video btw, love the before and after!

Perfect size for me. Has the tilde ~ for game code consoles and arrow keys for rts map panning etc

Thats the RK G68. It said it on the back. RK68 does not have 2.4ghz.

I got this as a christmas gift with blue switches (so a much thocky spacebar B))
Some reminders that rk68 or rk855 is different from rkg68 or rk837. rk68 is 65% but it does not have a removable top cover, dongle, 3 ports, and 2 on and off switch unlike the rkg68, it is also 65% but it is the complete opposite of the rk68.
the Holee mod for the stabs is so difficult for me to do since i have shaky hands, i did the same like yours and taped the wire, and it works.

4 keys is not working for me already :( i don't know what to do. if i press one of those keys. 4 of them lights(a very low light (rgb is not working anymore) its like an indicator that it's being pressed together) but it doesn't work/register the keys. i tried putting an alcohol overnight. i haven't tried unscrewing etc.

I just got RK84 from the same brand, I will be moding it BUT stabs on my aren't nearly as rattly as here. They put actually good amount of lube and though it's not perfect, IMO for a 80$ board it's outstanding.
what would be the difference if you do all those mods but leaving the red switches instead of the milky yellows?

rk G68 is rk 837 not the same with rk68/855.. G68 has USB pass through and upgraded RGB and some branded stabs if im not wrong

I used adhesive sound prof foam! You can easily find them at hardware shops or online stores!

hi! you probably won't see this but i am looking for some red and white keycaps for my rk68 to match my setup but cant seem to find any. i can find red and white keycaps but theyre made for 61 key keyboards (gk61, rk61, etc.) and wont fit my keyboard. think you could help?
I downloaded it's software and suddenly I can't use the Bluetooth of my keyboard anymore. How to fix these? I tried a lot of devices if they can search my keyboard and none of them can. I already mod the keyboard but I can't use it's Bluetooth connection. Hope someone can help me.

This keyboard have a software. You need to search on Reddit (but don't flash the wrong firmware, becareful ) or email to the Rk support team to ask for the software .
don't you feel any interference since you were using cherry profile keycaps on a northfacing led keyboard?
After using it for a few weeks I didn't have a huge problem with any interference with the keycaps! Although then the space bar is not flip there seemed to be some rubbing against the keys!

is there a way to change fn button function from multimedia keys to f1 f2 f3 buttons on my rk g68 keyboard? when i press for example alt fn 4 to toggle alt f4 it opens up calculator instead of closing the page program etc.
How did you get the multimedia keys to work? Mine doesn't. Did you use your keyboard on Mac? I use it on windows and only Alt F4 work instead.
@@Impr003 i use it on windows i was suprised they put multimedia function to fn keys. I can control many things but cannot easily alt fn 4 ( alt f4) its frustrating to switch between modes whole keyboard lights up for 2 seconds and you wait up fo 5 seconds just to alt f4. so i put script to alt c bind it to alt f4 lol
@@thracian Lol, huh strange. I still no idea how the Fn multimedia to work so I use AutoHotkey to made the multimedia keys. Mine one is the whitelit version btw.

From my usage I found little to non interference from the keycaps!

sadly FN + F1 until F12 button didn’t work for me, bluetooth connection horrible except wireless 2.4ghz are extremely superb
I had problems with the number keys from before! It was solved when I reset the board! Hold Fn + space and you’ll see blinking, once the blinking stops the board should be reset!
how do you find interference brought about by the north-facing switches and cherry profile?
That was my main concern actually, after using the board for about a week or so I found that it didn't really affect the keys that much! When I flipped the space bar back to it's original position, the space bar would scratch against the 'x' key a bit but other than that I didn't find any interference!
May I ask what kind of foam is that and where I could find something like that? Great video btw!

Correct me if I’m wrong, buuut... if someone replaces the switches and keycaps, adds foam and also significantly modifies the stabs, shouldn’t they just go full custom instead of getting a prebuilt?
full custom is more expensive
Hi! I'm planning to mod my RKG68 however I'm wondering if there's a difference between a lubed/clipped/modded stock stabilizer vs a lubed/clipped/modded Everglide/Durock stabilizer?
i am using g68 too,and i change the switch akko lavander,now i feel like want to add foam into my keyboard but i dont know need use how many mm thickness on plate foam and case foam,got any suggestion?

Hey man, great video! I heard that this keyboard has an led bump that bulges out so it's incompatible with some switches, so do you know if the gateron yellows would work in this board?
When I was building I didn't come across any bumps! I think it would work fine with gateron yellows!! Hope to see your build too!

it will be fine! The north facing switch might cause a bit of interference for cherry profile keycaps but i had no problems on my end! But you can try out different profiles as cherry profile might not be suited for everyone!

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've never gotten after market keycaps before-I can't seem to find the exact keycaps measurements for this keyboard, I am especially hesitant to buy a keycaps set since I'm not sure how many U's the shift keys are. Does anyone have a chart showing the U measurements per key?
Tab is 1.5u, caps lock is 1.75u, left shift is 2.25u, right shift is 1.75u, enter is 2.25u, backspace is 2u, control, win key and alt is 1.25u, space bar is 6.25!
