    This is really cool! This the perfect system for me. We need an ump making the calls, but let players challenge just like this. And it will evolve so players get better at knowing what to challenge because a few of these challenges are clearly a waste

    Oh yeah, this is the way to go!

    ..In fact though, it would be better if the Home Plate Umpire was given an immediate signal through an earpiece from the automated strike zone system.

    Why can’t they just signal the Umpires ear piece with the call, immediately? Why is the challenge necessary? Just “ding” the left ear for a ball and the right ear for a strike…🤔

      Whether you agree with it or not it is to add drama to the process. Also the graphic this year tells you how far off the plate the pitch is.

      @rjhutc 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      because the computer can't make the call *immediately*, it takes time for the data to process. it's not a lot of time, just a couple of seconds, but in practice that's too long to wait on every single pitch

    if the system is good enough to be 99% accurate I'd prefer for the system to make the call. It would suck to not have a challenge and have a really bad pitch end a game. Or feel like you don't want to waste one early. either way it will be an improvement for the game.

    • @fredfishmonger
      @fredfishmonger 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The issue is that the system takes a while, so it would extend games by a lot which would counter everything they’ve been trying to do with shortening games. Having a limited number of challenges adds strategy to it instead of challenging everything
