I just went "all in" about a month ago and picked up two core sets and all 17 expansions based on price and the recommendation of our FLGS owner. Took me about 10 hours to find out if I even liked the game. Now I am in love with it and have been playing regularly with my spouse, opening a new pack every couple of games. In the end, I did find this more enjoyable than the Netrunner LCG.

I really love this game and was sad when it stopped the first time. Then it started back up, still great, then is stopped again.
Thank you shut up and sit down for making me cry once again.

Doomtown: Reloaded has a ton of expansions (maybe more than 20), you don't need them all, but they offer a ton of variety.

Rewatched this the other day and, on a whim, added DT:R to my BGG wishlist. The next day someone offered it up in exchange for Elder Sign. I'll have it later this week! Thanks, Quinns.

I've been playing Doomtown since the 90's. It's alwsys been a fantastic game. I would have taken the plunge were it not for how much I sank in the original release.

I absolutely agree about The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’s final shootout scene - the build and anticipation as Ennio Morricone’s ‘The Trio’ is playing. But that scene is made all the better for its proceeding scene of The Ugly running dizzily and elatedly around the grave site, set to the incredible tune ‘The Ecstasy Of Gold’ - these two scenes are my favourite one and two punch in all of cinema.

Not discontinued! AEG let it go, but Pinnical the owners, formed Pine Box Entertainment to keep it going. They did a KS for a big box storage and have a big expansion coming out in early 2019. Game is still alive and kickin'.

I love Doomtown, I just find it hard to get into the new version. I find it hard to buy even in the new model for TCGs. I bought the base set and played it a couple times, and then I bought the first couple expansion pack things, and they just didn't feel that exciting. And one would think that for all the rulebook and new presentation, the movement around the board still manages to be one of the most confusing things, and things like adjacency and noon jobs should be a lot clearer than they were in the base set.
I appreciate some of the revisions, while others, I'm not so sure about. And then I stopped, waiting for the new factions to be release. Then they were and I just haven't gotten a chance to really dig back into the new version of Doomtown.
The shootout mechanics are easily some of the best, most fun elements, and it was in its time one of the best multiplayer games I ever played. But the complications of the game make it hard to introduce new players, unless they are already pre disposed to the TCG style games, like Netrunner, magic, etc.

Very much so. I would say it is 60% of the game. You get to a point where it all clicks into place and the game opens up - and then you can focus on refining your tactics. I would say that this is a boardgame of area control.

When talking about LCGs, I think it's important for the review to compare with traditional CCGs. Why should one invest time / money into Netrunner or Doomtown as opposed to Magic or Hearthstone?
Relatedly, in general I think it's fine to review most board games as if digital competitors don't exist, but with CCGs/LCGs specifically, Hearthstone is such a dominant presence, I feel it's remiss not to address it.

So coming to this video 3 years after published I look at both netrunner and doomtown and think "Fuck that." Same, unfortunately with (I believe) Fantasy Flights Lord of the Rings LCG. I'm definitely DEFINITLY in the camp living card games are just better for the consumer/player than collectable card games. But it always feels like if you're not there at the start, or at least no more than one maybe two expansions in, you've just missed the train.
Flipside is, every now and then, as in every few years, a friend and I will buy a magic the gathering starter deck each, play for a few months enjoy it and then get bored and pack it away. LCG's don't seem as easy to 'drop in' to as CCG's.

Wow. This sounded really cool until the poker hands were described.

    • @andy4an
      @andy4an 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

actually, that is the BEST part of the game.
poker is both thematic to the wild west, and matches the feel of a shootout.
in both poker and a shootout, you posture, and bluff and prepare, and maybe bail out, or maybe THERE IS AN EXPLOSION OF ACTION when you reveal.
Those hands of poker have the same tension as a shootout.
That said, I was underwhelmed by the entire rest of the game. Moving was so cumbersome and finicky.
