I have to say of all the ways to pimp another channel, that's the best I have ever seen.
As a massive clumsy-nut, I cannot express how impressed I am that Quinns managed to do all that sticky-out elbow stuff in the review WITH A CUP OF TEA ON THE CORNER OF THE TABLE and didn't spill it once. That is the British equivalent of sword-swallowing. or something.

The magic of editing
At 10:38 a spider definitely emerges from Quinn's hoodie and runs along his neck!

Really appreciated the final part exploring the "fluffiness". I've felt this way with several hidden roles games.
The old shots from previous reviews makes me miss some of the old gang.
I was already thoroughly enjoying this episode, but that ending, that was gold.
Now we need to see No Pun have a similar outro in their review of this game where he flips over a pear token.
I bought this game a bit reluctantly after seeing this review, but after our third play, me and my friends loved it to bits!
As soon as some secret identities start getting revealed everybody started to keep track and devise their strategy, trying to make the best decisions with the cards they picked up. The possibility of roles changing means that you have to keep an open mind in order to change your strategy if you need to, trying to end the game when it's the most convenient time for you . It's a short play (30'), and easy enough to pick up and enjoy after a couple plays, offering enough layers and complexity to keep it fun and engaging for everybody. I think a medium (4-5) player count is the best, because it enables you to memorise all the tokens and keep track of them, while not getting too complicated. And the box is also very small, which means that you can pretty much carry it anywhere you like! Perfect for a casual play at a friend's house or at a pub :)

I follow french, German and US boardgame reviewer and you should know that you are really the bests. So clear, so fluent, accurate arguments...Woah..How do you do that!?
Imagine developing a secret code with your friend before having a session.. you'd be sitting across and if your friend or you do certain things, those actions have certain meanings. For example:
Sip whatever you're drinking - I'm on the soviet side
Clear throat - I'm on the other one
Smile - I'm a hippie
Take a deep breath, then perform one of the above actions - the guy next to me is the [sip clear or smile]
Scratch chin then [sip clear or smile] - I swapped my role, i am now on [this] side
Cough, then [sip, clear or smile]- I didn't swap the tokens, the other guy is [this]
And in-game attempt to get on the same team and steamroll everyone xD
Be warned, I bought this at the international spy museum & I didn't get a rule book or the template where the arrows go, so it's useless to me.

It's a bit like Mario Party, isn't it. You get to the end and the game starts throwing BS point stars around that no one could have anticipated and suddenly Luigi, who's been in 3rd place the whole time, suddenly wins. And you either have to come to terms with the fact that your action in the game mean nothing, so just have fun, or you get so frustrated that you toss the table.
Not really. Mario Party is rigged while this is more lack of knowledge.
Well that all depends on *which* Mario Party you're playing!

I did go to the zoo a couple of weeks ago so yes. I have seen them both. The real question you should be asking is, are Matt and Paul really different people? Think about it, Matt only really started showing up after Paul "moved to Canadia", or so they claim....
When Quinns got married he did know a little too much about the statistical likelihood of being killed by an owl. Could Matt be a Franken-Paul and Canadian Paul a visual effect?
HOLD THE PHONE, I've just had an epiphany. Paul might be a special effect, but I think that''s because he was never real to begin with. No, nonono, the truth is that Matt is actually secretly Brendan! He hasn't been seen on the show in years, after disappearing into the "past" one episode. After an hour into Munchkins, everyone is just done and lets someone win. Come next month, everyone seems to have forgotten their exasperation and wants it on the table.

The idea of the "hidden role game where you're not sure which team you're on" never sat right with me. I was totally behind the game until roles started getting scrambled. Like with One Night Werewolf, I just don't see how you can work out who you are without making it obvious to everyone that you don't already know. I don't understand what lies are safe to tell, or what strategies you could even use.
Had a beer but now I can't tell if you guys are geniuses (genii, genies) or just bonkers.

The entire time I was watching this I got a the feeling I wouldn't like it. The short caveat at the end put those feelings into words. Exactly that. I just don't like games where I don't feel like my actions were meaningful.

Tried it once and never figured out what was going on. Left me confused. Did not have a good time
I just bought the game . I watched the video because some things were unclear to me in the rules . I don't know if it is really that awesome or you're just promoting it . I hope it's that awesome and my 20 euros weren't wasted . Anyway you're very entertaining dude

Played it... Total dud for me...
Quinn's concerns where the game feels random and insubstantial basically applies to every social bluffing/ deduction game I've ever played. Mascarade, saboteur, dead last, onuw, mafia de Cuba, etc. The game isn't really about winning, it's about expressing yourself by playing a fun game with friends. I generally prefer a brain burning puzzle in my game, but with the right group a social game like this is excellent.
I agree that this kind of game will never be a favorite of mine, but a game like it absolutely belongs in every collection.

I cringe every time I see someone shuffle cards like that.
If the cards are good quality, they should easily survive a riffle shuffle. If they are poor quality, you might need to overhand shuffle for 20 minutes to get the same randomness. But then why did you buy a game with poor card quality? Don't encourage that.

Cockroach poker used the "here's a hidden card, do you accept?" bluff mechanic first (to my knowledge) so not really a first. I played a demo of this at UKGE and enjoyed it, but I thought it was a bit chaotic and out of your own control at times which wont be for some.

You had me until you said you've basically got little control over the entire thing. Such great designers as well.
Fun review, though your criticisms of this game to me would apply to any of these basic hidden role games. There are no real meaningful choices in any of them, which is why I find them all pointless to play.
In betrayer games such as BSG or Dead of Winter or Shadows Over Camelot, you have a whole game to analyze to see if you can discover the betrayer, but the enjoyment of those games doesn't solely depend on trying to figure out who is on your team, or who is what role, and if you know what role, then who does what thing, etc, etc. There is much more of an actual story to it, as well.
I find no satisfaction to winning hidden role games. They are so basic, and the choices so minimalist, that whether I win or lose is immaterial. So I find your criticism of Secrets odd for that very reason, as all of the hidden role games you've mentioned suffer from those same flaws.
Hmmm, social deduction, hard pass.
