I recently started working with an artist and the first song was amazing to the point I was like "yeah, there's my first artist", sings well enough and writes catchy songs. The producer that hooked me up with the artist told me to jump to paperwork immediately so I spoke to the artist about it. Since that conversation with the artist communication dropped... I'm not even feeling hurt, I'm feeling accomplished :) because I saved myself from future stress :)
For anyone upcoming producers reading this, invest in good drum kits and learn a bit of sound design to make music with your stock plugins or get a good vst synth. what you really want to hear really requires some knowledge to shape the sound, I'm still learning myself but today I took a basic annoying sounding piano and made magic. Bolo drum kits got good stuff for sure so I'll recommend ya'll click that link he got up there....

all facts. i spent nearly 4 years supporting/producing a family member and he "forgot" to add me the credits for several albums with my music featured. Of course, no lawyer, because hey, its family right? Family would never cross you or disrespect you like that ... right? Naw. Business is business. Bolo is a blessing to the music industry for putting these videos out. My dad is a DJ so i naturally got into making music in high school (2005). Bought all my own shit, worked with many artists, put in HOURS... but I'm still broke!! All my fault.

Right you are about those synthesizers. I've probably seen every single synthesizer channel on youtube by now, big and little. For as much as these folks know about synths (their history, internal components, their inventors, etc.), it's amazing how unremarkable their Hearing is. So many are NOT into Sound Design, at all. They usually, yes, stay on the presets or download everybody else's... and thus, never creating their own. It literally drives me nuts. I got so tired of every single Matrix Brute demo sounding the same... (because they were all using THE PRESETS), and then they basically say, "well, this is The Matrix Brute!"
And I'm like, "no... no... no... no.... no....!!!" So I created a video exploring the synth in more detail from a Sound Designer perspective and I got a little rude about it, because in the video thumbnail I said something as condescending as "YOU HAVE TO TURN THE KNOBS!!!" ... but I was really trying to get my point across. I just really feel like people are doing themselves a disservice by NOT engaging in that experimental Sound Design process.
Of every video I saw on synths where a person had 15 or more in their studio, there was but one guy (ashamedly I forget his name), and he explained why he acquired the synths he did. His reasoning was simply: Versatility. He wanted to be able to own basically every major synth sound, both digital and analog. And when I saw his set up, I realized he knew Exactly what he was talking about because his synths should've been my own decisions... every single one of them, for the purpose he prescribed. Yet, he was missing but one sound... the iconic Korg filter sweep (as found on the MS20). When I pointed it out, he knew that I knew, and he knew, so he knew that I knew... and it was like two people in France, suddenly speaking fluent Hungarian.
But yeah... not just synthesizers themselves, but musical equipment, IN GENERAL!
Got a guitar, but you're tired of all the "same old things"? Play classical, play bluegrass, learn finger-style, or a few Megadeth solos. Tired of that Roland TR-8? Turn that sucker into a sequencer that can play ANY midi sound on command. Tired of, or limited by your speaker/monitor situation? Before upgrading to a higher quality set, study in depth about room treatment and acoustics- attempt to make as many improvements as you can with home made material and experiment like a scientist. Read books about Mixing and Mastering, etc.
I too get very caught up in "not ever having enough equipment", and it's a real easy trap to fall into. So people in the musical community are trying to get the PSA out about G.A.S. (gear acquisition syndrome) and are instead opting for S.A.S. (Skill Acquisition Syndrome)
that is, taking your old gear, getting experimental, taking it it's furthest extremes- reading the long, boring tech manuals that came with your instrument/machine that you just threw aside years before.
Did you plug your electric guitar into your analog synth? Or your analog synth into your digital drum machine? This may be a good sign that a person is going S.A.S. and not wholly G.A.S.

I just wanted to elaborate on the point you made about buying too much stuff. I get what you are saying about most of the synthesizer sounds can be made on a laptop. While that is indeed true, there are also those such as myself who don't particularly enjoy making music that way. Sure, I have dabbed in FL Studio/Fruityloops and Ableton Live and made complete instrumental tracks with those programs alone. However, I have always been a fan of hardware from day one. You can call me old-school if you want, but I started making beats back in the 90's when I was in high-school. I had to use the non-professional gear I had then and figure out how to "make" a studio out of a couple of double cassette-deck stereo recorders, a cheap RadioShack/Realistic 5-channel mixer, my little RadioShack Concertmate 1100 keyboard, and an old 1993 version of Cool Edit I had running on my dad's computer (I used the software as a drumloop sampler to sample me playing drums on the keyboard and saved the loops on 3.5" floppy). This was in 1996 BEFORE I got my first multitrack recorder, my first real synth, and first drum machine, and my first midi sequencing software. Let's face it, the good stuff (keyboard workstations, MPCs and other samplers, and good recording equipment) was very expensive. By the time I got through college and was grown with a real job, I was finally able to afford the real professional-grade studio gear that I always wanted. I learned a lot with it too not only by gaining experience using it but also by researching it prior to purchasing it. You have to learn about it, how it works, and what it does first before you can decide whether or not it's something you really need.
Anyway, to make a long story short, hardware has always inspired me to make music and it still does 'til this day, particularly when it comes to synthesizers and other machines like the TR808 and MPC. I have quite a few synths now. Most of them I've recently bought, and most of my older gear that I had for well over a decade was sold or traded in to help fund new gear. I don't regret anything I recently purchased one bit and very happy and thankful I have it. With that said, I'm to the point of reaching a limit on gear buying and focusing more on making some wonderful music with my new setup.
I agree with you in terms of having too much. I see people on the internet, some of whom have as many as 30-40 hardware synths with a big room, yet limited space to cram them all in. That would be total overkill for me. There is a fine line where you can either have a very limited setup, have a very comprehensive setup that is not limiting but also not too much or too overwhelming and still inspire creativity, and having so much gear that you couldn't possibly use it all which could actually hinder creativity. I'm right there in the middle.
Once thing I can say is these new MPCs are a beast. BTW, do you still have that Korg Krome EX? I haven't seen you with it in your studio in the last few videos you've posted. Just Curious.
These are all excellent tips you touched one in this video.
Thank you for the wonderful advice!

I already commented but Just want to say your on point about not needing SO MUCH STUFF, I got a MiniNova and it's fun however all the sounds can be made in a 10 year old Reason, infact some of the presets are literally identical 100%, there for it's easier just to make the sounds in Reason rather then trying to record the Novas audio.
